Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Hmm... Considering that physics rule stating 'two bodies can't occupy the same space' still seems to apply inside thes gates, my first guess is if each of our gates 'overlapped' the contents would just get mixed inside the gate and we'd have to sort out what belongs to whom - there shouldn't be a problem with the objects themselves being fused though. Another possibility is we could end up opening a gate diverse from the one we individually have. Or not manage to get anything into or from it because of two separate gates in the same space making it so their opening is too small and/or unstable." She rambled for a little while, trying to list all possibilities she could think of as the thoughts formed.

He thought through the options as she suggested them, considering each one in turn. “My bet is on opening an entirely new one. The way we open our portals solo is via a link to our magical energy. A sort of unique signature. With our energies combining together, it would result in a new signature, and thus a new portal. Assuming this is true, it would be very useful in sealing away something for protection, as both parties would have to come together again to retrieve it. But if one member dies, it becomes lost forever.”
He held his hand out to her after he finished his own rambling, ready to test it now. For once in a long while, he actually didn’t appear to have a troubled look on his face. It was calm and eager instead.

Well, if there was one point to be made here, then it was fact that they could guess all they wanted but would only know for sure after testing it. The other redhead's theory of what would happen if they opened a portal together was interesting too, an unique signature and portal that could seal things away. If that's right, it would open a lot of new possibilities for varied different things... and Edelweiss also had to admit, while the topic and research were of her interest and own doing, it was also nice to see Lasair with a different expression other that 'I might be dead inside' one he'd had for such a large percent of time in this visit. It made a bit of a more relaxed smile slowly grow on her face as well.
"Let's start testing it then." She quickly grabbed a piece of paper from the table and folded it into a little paper plane, then held it in her palm while reaching out to take his hand we her free one. "If we open a new portal, we can put it inside, and try to open it again next time we meet in the forest or somewhere safe."
Personally, she found the behavior of her own magic to be quite peculiar when she casted Gating usually, with the rose gold energy gathered around her hand and arm acting as if the space - or the reality - around was glass cracking, and the cracks spreading until fully shattering to reveal the red liquid-looking portal behind. This time, though, once her own energy started mixing with Lasair's to start a single spell, she felt particularly curious about what it'd look like. "Ready?"

He nodded as answer and extended his magic with hers, watching intently on what would happen next. Normally his casting of this spell took the form of a purple rift in space, which would hover a moment before opening. The interior of his gate was turquoise and coated with glowing speckles that reminded him of stars.
Instead of that happening, however, a smaller version of his purple rift appeared and from it sprouted numerous red cracks that spread out before forming a circle around the thicker crack-like rift. Then, the glass collapsed on itself and revealed the interior of the portal. The walls were a deep magenta color coated with the sparkles that Lasair was accustomed to seeing, however the stars were slowly moving around and drifting across the walls, as if the color holding them were a liquid rippling at random intervals.

"Indeed. And this one surely has a very rosy personality." She couldn't help but lt out a small snicker at the blatant magenta tones they were now looking at, before remembering the paper plane was still in her hand and moving forward to place it inside the new portal. "Amusing... and interesting too. This isn't my personal portal by any means. Can I assume it's also not your usual one and your theory was right?"

He couldn’t help but stare at the way the interior of the portal seemed to move around. “No…mine’s usually a light blue. And doesn’t move.” He continued to watch as she set the small aerodynamic paper inside it and a part of him wanted to reach inside and touch the walls to see if they felt the way that they looked. But then he thought better of it and instead tore his eyes away, simultaneously severing his concentration on the portal. He wondered if it would immediately close or if Edel’s concentration alone could hold it open. Just to be safe, he focused his mind on reading one of the papers on the table instead, at least for the moment.

The portal just hovered there normally and for a couple seconds long there didn't seem to be anything different hapening. But with only Edelweiss sustaining the portal, and Lasair's energy in it dissipated, it started to strain the CAEsAL leader's own cast and the opening seemed to slowly collapse on itself, the 'stars' within fading as if sinking underwater and the magenta colors starting to get 'flooded' by streaks of a blood-red rippling tone before Edelweiss willingly closed the whole thing to avoid damaging her own energy.
"...Las, next time, tell me when you want to try something different from just the initial test, please?" She requested while moving to pick the pen again and make some more notes on the book. She isn't mad, nor upset by it in any manner - it had shown some interesting results, and been worth experimenting anyway. But she'd rather he warns her before doing something that might strain either her magic or his own, for their own safety.

“My apologies; it occurred to me in the moment and I couldn’t bare missing the opportunity to test it.” His words were sincere, if a little light on the emotional side. But it was true; they had learned a lot from these various tests.
“I think we’ve learned quite a bit; wouldn’t you agree? How do you feel about the idea of taking a break for now, stepping back to work on our own magical skills, and then meeting up again to perform more experiments? That way we’ll have more time to thoroughly think through what we want to test, and how. And I won’t be getting surprise ideas like I did here.”

"A break sounds fine." She agreed. "Send me another note if you find anything interesting, and if not then we can meet again during the next magic classes for the kids (but a bit earlier) if that sounds alright?"
"But about bonding the book to you we we can keep both copies updated... would you rather have it done now, or at a later time?"

“Now is good,” he said with a nod. “And yes, a meeting would be a perfect time to regroup on our ideas.” He leaned forward I his seat then, eager to learn the book-binding spell.
