Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

As both Lasair and Caitlin seemed to have the commander in good hands, Lorraine turned back to lead the way with Felix in front to sniff out any potential threats. When they reached the grate, Lorraine shooed the fox off to the side then pressed all of her weight against the grate to shove it aside so that they could all make their exit. After getting out herself, she stood to the side and surveyed the surrounding area. This all seemed to odd for her, there were no patrols in the area, no signs of real danger. Nothing. In all of her training, this did not sit with her. With a motion of her hand, she beckoned the fox forward and ran her fingers through the fur on the back of his head.
"JOVENNA! GET AWAY FROM THERE!" Andronikos called as he darted towards her and scooped her up bridal style, then pulled the both of them back just moments before the building blew.
Andronikos stared in bitter duality at the blaze of the old barracks, confliction tugging at his gut as his muscles froze tense. Memories of training and the tools that helped make them were now under the fire's fingers - Not to mention the prisoners that had been held captive there... But they meant nothing. They deserved it - or, at least that is what Andronikos convinced himself. If it were Alistair's idea to rig it as such, however, then it must have been justified, and he forced himself to push the thoughts of the recent explosion aside, and turned to Jo. "I am ordered to find a sniper- to injure the escapees, enough that they would not be a problem, but -" He cringed as he relayed the rest of his instructions, " we are to let them go."

"It's too quiet..." Edelweiss thought, exitting the tunnel right after Lorraine and looking around. They were out, and there were no guards. Either a blow of luck as unlikely as being abducted by a pink unicorm, or something was wrong and they better not lower their guards. "Lets keep moving."

Jovena gasped as she was swept off her feet and carried quickly away from the sudden fireworks. The heat from the building as it erupted, and the spray of glass from the windows blowing outward rained down where she had been standing moments ago. She tried to hold on to Andronikos as he carried her a safer distance back from the blaze. Her bloody wrist smeared on the front of his shirt and she frowned - her eyes fixated on the sight, as if she couldn't understand it, but knew undoubtedly that it was somehow wrong.
As for the hand and wrist themselves. They were cold as ice, and going numb. She gripped tighter around his shoulders with her uninjured hand, to feel more secure. He looked down and met her eyes, relaying the rest of his instructions with a wince. Her frown deepened even more.
"But... Why would we want to do that?" She asked. "If they were supposed to stay alive, why did we just blow up our own resources? Who's side are we on - ours or theirs?" Her voice trailed off as a heavy wave of exhaustion set in. "I feel so.... sluggishhhh..." her head rolled to the side and rest against his shoulder.

Danny pushed her way to the front of the tunnel and stepped out into the night. Nothing. Her glow was muted because she wanted to be a less conspicuous target, but still needed to throw out spells at a moment's notice.
Skye knew they were moving forward, but he had little notion or though of anything else but escape. More explosions sounded, but they quickly faded to the rear as the party progressed. Skye had no idea what to say, even though the object of his thoughts was so close at hand. Instead tried to get an idea of how far they had left but the second one of the company had lit a torch he'd had to shield his eyes. They burned. He knew, soon, that he'd have to face that burning, but if they were all going to die shortly, he would do so comfortably.
Finally breaking the silence, Skye said the only thing he could think. "Sorry I missed our date." After which, there was only silence again on his part.
Meter after meter they moved without opposition, until Skye could once again smell the undeniable scent of fresh air. To be robbed from such a thing for so long....There was also a twinge of something a bit sickening, though the more he considered this peculiarity, the more sure he was that the scent was being emitted by his own body. The indignity of it all was staggering, but there was much more Alistair needed to answer for.
They were almost out, and whoever exited first would find themselves pushing aside a large grate on the far side of the Rail Road. There would be no opposition, but the blaze from the fires of the old barracks lit the surrounding area as if they'd stepped into some strange twilight period.
Her breath hitched seized in her chest and her throat grew tight and sore with the urge to cry. How could he think about that at a time like this? Ten months in solitary confinement and the first thing he says to her - to her - is sorry I missed our date? It's not that she didn't remember, its that she let that thought fall to the wayside when everything else became that much more of a priority. Life had pulled her along in its current, and rather than pine for a date she was due, she spent her thoughts on him worrying about when he'd go to trial or how else they'd set him free.
"Don't worry about that now," she whispered to him, doing the best she could to assist Lasair, who was supporting the majority of his weight. They emerged at last at the end of the tunnel and the firey night coupled with Danny's muted glow and the dying light of Ikuze spent torch revealed a thick layer of dirt caked to Skye's skin. He didn't even look like himself anymore, except for the eyes. They eyes were forever the same. "Put that out," she nodded toward the torch not that there was anything much left on it to burn.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin
Ikuze nods as they reach the end of the tunnel, putting out the make-shift torch in a nearby puddle that had formed from the storm. She pushed the grate aside carefully before peering around, frowning at what she saw. The thief looked back to the group. "Place is way too bright, and way too clear. Not a single person in sight. Not meaning to jinx this but..." the blue haired girl left the words unsaid, the frown still in place on her features. Every fiber of her being was telling her that this was too damned easy now... Something was up, and here she was waiting for the other shoe to drop on their heads.
Vlad was in position. He was ready and waiting. The sky was lit up from the fireworks at the building and he could make out the silhouettes of the rescue party. He waited with steady breathing for his target to appear. Where was he? Where was he? AHA! There he was, emerging near the railroads. Vlad slowly wrapped his finger around the trigger of his rifle and waited. Breath, hold it, breath out, hold it. In, out, hold, and he slowly squeezed the trigger. The rifle barked out a single shot, and fell silent. Vlad waited five seconds after the shot before he began reloading. He might have enough time for another shot before they got away.
The air was so fresh. that was his first thought as they exited the tunnel and stepped out into the open. Had it always been this way? He could fill his lungs in long deep breaths without tasting decay or coughing incessantly. It invigorated him, the way it all seemed to flow towards him. Was he free? Had this group actually managed what should have been impossible?
Caitlin yelled at Ikuze to put her torch out, but Skye couldn't see the reason. There was no one else around, and the fire was so bright already that the removal of the torch would offer little in the way of stealth. They simply had to move quickly. "To the treeline, and we'll be safe." he muttered, weakly raising his arm in the general direction of the trees that bordered the railway. They needed to cross the tracks and put distance between the rail platform behind them. Get to the tree line, and all would be well. If only he actually believed that.
Truthfully he knew that something was seriously wrong. The training grounds were on fire and there was no shouts or screams from any EIRAL. Surely, the area should be swarmed with patrols looking for the culprits. They couldn't all be complicit with Alistair, could they? Could the EIRAL have lost their morals in the short time he'd been in prison. How long had it really been? How long had he been in that hole?
"Lorraine..." he began to question when the shot broke the silence of the nights and of his thoughts. He began to turn, to try and get a sighting on the shooter, and that's when the pain hit him. It began at his left ear and sliced across the side of his face. Blood and viscera exploded across the faces of those closest to him. The cornea of his left eye burned away under the heat of the bullet, searing away his eyeball. Continuing along, the bullet blew apart the bridge of his nose and finally left, via a long scar across his upper right eyelid. He screamed out from the pain. It was too much for anyone to keep down, and he might have continued screaming if his body didn't compensate for such a sudden trauma by sending him into the land of unconsciousness.

In the silence, Lorraine continued to watch the surrounding streets until the last person emerged from the tunnel then she led the way toward the treeline just as the commander had mentioned it. The hairs on the back of her neck stood when the she heard her name, but not because it was spoken, but because of the unmistakable sound of a rifle being shot in the distance. Immediately, she whipped around to see the aftermath just as Skye had gone limp in the other two's arms. Turning to the others, she waved them on with her left arm. "Go! Go now, get to the trees! Hurry," while she rushed over to help shoulder Skye's weight. Her forefinger and middle finger dipped into the side of his neck. "He's alive, still, we have to get him to safety," she found herself saying though knew that the other two likely didn't have to hear that to know to get out of the area and quickly. Felix suddenly came to mind and she searched for the Fox while they dragged Skye toward the forest. Her eyes found the fox trembling and hiding a ways off from them. Softly she called to him and his ears perked to hear her voice before bolting for the treeline.

Edelweiss turned to spot Vlad as the shot sound came. Before looking to access damage, or who had been hit. Her thoughts had been waterfalling on her on the way as they reached the exit, only to be switched by a placid lake instead. Each and every ripple would be taken notice of. Sniper in position. Skye screamed; it had been him who was shot. No time to look. Lorraine's voice comfirmed he was alive.
They'll reload and shoot again. They had to move, fast. Edelweiss' legs started moving and make a run for it towards the escape route Skye had pointed before, the treeline. They had to reach that. Let Lasair, Caitlin and Lorraine go ahead with Skye.
Do no let the sniper reload. Her eyes scanned the ground that kept sliding below her feet. Dark ground, but loose pebbles at points. Plenty.
Do not kill. They'll shoot again. Do not let them reload. Aim. No time. Do not kill. Cripple.
A single pebble picked up. It was around the size of a pistol's ammo. Aim while running. No time to spare. The pebble floated up for half a second. Rotate for momentum, faster, propel, faster, forward - shoot. And off it went like a bullet.

Vlad was almost done reloading when something ricochetted near him. The big man ducked behind cover and waited. They were running... and apparently they could shoot back. No matter. Vlad took a deep breath, spun back to line up a shot, and frowned in frustration. There wasn't a clear shot for the traitor, nor the witches. They were all disappearing into the woods. Vlad almost raised his rifle when he spotted the treacherous sword woman's beast. He couldn't claim her head, but he could still wound her. He lined up his shot quickly, led the sprinting beast, and snapped off his shot.

Lorraine's attention was drawn to Edel as she threw off the pebble and then she snapped her attention back forward. When the second shot sounded, she ushered them along quicker while searching to see who had been shot. Skye was not hit again, nor was Lasair and Caitlyn. The others seemed fine so perhaps a missed fire, that was perhaps when her eyes fell on Felix crumpled on the ground in a mess of his own blood and gore. Her eyes went wide and her mouth fell open but no sound left her as she struggled to breathe. The bullet had gone through his chest cavity and the exit wound was devastating. She knew whose rifle was capable of such damage. The lack of movement in her fox's chest was confirmation enough that the animal was dead. Everything passed by slowly around her but the reminder of the other two and Skye brought her back to her senses. They were not out of danger and Skye was injured. Felix was gone and there was nothing she could do. She could not waste time weeping or mourning now and she could most certainly not go to recover the corpse. What came first and foremost was the safety of the others and so she pushed down the pain and continued for the trees.
Ikuze made for the tree-line as the Commander suggested, dropping to the ground as soon as the cracking gunshot reached her ears. "dung! Knew this was going too bloody smooth!" she cursed under her breath, looking back to Skye who'd been hit. Right in the face... "Ouch..." She glanced around and saw Edelweiss taking a shot at the enemy sniper as she got up and resumed her run. When the second shot cracked out, she dropped once more, hoping that nobody else had gotten hit... only to find that the woman's pet fox had taken a hit. The blue haired thief looked to the woman then at the fox as she passed it, before snapping her fingers and brushing them against its fur, setting the corpse ablaze. "No sense in letting him rot." the thief said to Lorraine, hoping the make-shift cremation would give the woman some measure of comfort before resuming their dead run for the trees. Once the group had reconvened within the safety of the tree-line, she looked around. "Who's place is closer?" asked Ikuze of her cohorts.

Danny heard the gunshot, and bolted for the treeline. The others would catch up. Once in the shadows of the trees she turned back to watch. Skye was being dragged bodily, Lorraine and Ikuze were near a dead fox. Oh... the blue haired woman tried to light the soaking fox fur on fire. That went about as expected. Danny scanned the complex they were fleeing from before quickly murmuring out a small summons. A pair of imps and another skeleton were raised and started wandering about inside the complex. Anything they came across, they'd attack. Should be a small enough distraction to cover their retreat.
