Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Just making sure, you zoned out on me for a second." Elaine fiddled with the compass on her belt. Her fingers nimbly clicking its face open and shut again without her having to look for the button. Apparently satisfied with its function she dropped it and let it rest. "Well it's not like Lodan isn't interesting." She said with a smirk. "I see no reason to leave if I still haven't found out all the secrets of this old city. It's kind of like a book and each chapter must be unfolded."
Clairee wasn't usually much of a snoop. She didn't like eaves dropping, considered it a pretty rude habit, especially since her brothers thought nothing of it and used the deceitful tactic on her whenever she was being scolded by dad. Regardless of her personal opinions on the matter, she had overheard Lasair talking with some girl about leaving and never coming back, and what that much feel like. She pushed off the side of the building and stepped out of the shade cast by the awning.
"just imagine how the Anders feel..." she couldn't help but point out. "I'm sure they never wanted to leave their home world for ever. But treaty is what it is, and from what we know of Lodan's history - the deal they struck was that the portal had to be closed for good. No more inter-world travels. No more coming here --- or going back there." Her voice had turned so stone cold, like telling a horror story around a camp fire. She cleared her throat and shrugged non-nonchalantly.
"Lasair, would you mind introducing me to your pal here?" She had been meaning to catch back up with Lasair anyway after their attempt at initiating a new member to their secret society.

“You have a good point,” Lasair replied to Elaine and began thinking again, although he as careful not to get lost again. And before he knew it, a guild friend showed up. “Oh Clair, it’s good to see you again. This is Elaine, Elaine, this is Clair,” he introduced the two ladies to one another, taking a short bow to each as he spoke. He was going to say something about Clair’s comment about the Anders, but decided against it. That would be something for him to think about another time, when he could let some sadness into his brain.

Elaine cheerfully held out her hand in greeting at Miss Clair. "Nice to meet you." Clair didn't seem much older than herself. Interesting. At her mention of the Anders Elaine dropped her gaze for a moment. Anders got the short straw in this world, it was true. But they were a strong race determined to survive. "Yes, it was very upsetting for all Anders on both sides of the portal. Families were split. But Anders are a strong race. They were determined to make do with what they had, admittedly with several bumps on the road so-to-speak." Elaine shifted on her feet. "Although even after what they went through with the portal and war they still found a way to survive. Otherwise many of the Anders we see today wouldn't be here." She realized how many of anderswelters might just be out there. On other islands as well. "It all works out eventually." Elaine said looking up at the sky.
She smiled as she was introduced and shook the girls hand when it was offered. Look at her, being all polite and stuff! Not that she wasn't usually, but Clairee thought of herself as more of a farm girl than anyone else probably ever did (hell most probably had no idea that she lived on a farm at all, but she was her own hardest critic).
"Sounds like you know a great deal about it." Clair responded to Elaine's diatribe, but left it at that. No sense in prying, especially if Clairee herself was trying to pass herself off as human... which she was in regular society. Probably best she didn't sound too interested in the wellfare of Anders. She changed the subject. "I hope I wasn't interrupting anything?"

Staying quiet as Elaine mentioned Anders and that whole giant unhealed scar of a topic, Lasair spoke up only after the topic had passed. “No you weren’t interrupting. I was just telling Elaine about some of my travels and we drifted onto another topic. Have you traveled at all Clair?” He chose his question in hopes of distancing the conversation from Anders, and he was rather curious about Clair since he didn’t know anything about her.

"I only know what I have read." Elaine grew silent. She feared she had spoken too freely. She shoved away the strange twisting feeling in her stomach and gladly focused on learning about the new girl. Lasair seemed to know her from around town. Elaine's fingers twisted the fabric of her skirt.
"Oh. well ah, no. I'm 'fraid the furthest I've been from the city is the borderland forest. Never really had reason to leave Lodan. Never been to any of the other territories. Only person in my family that ever left the city was my older brother - because he's in the army so you know, they have to." She felt self conscious all of a sudden, like someone left wanting. Did Lasair really travel? She'd rather hear about him than talk about herself. "I dont mean to ask you to repeat yourselves since I'm late to the conversation but Where have you two been before?"

“I’ve been all over the place,” Lasair said with a smile. “Some places that Lodan has scarcely heard of. The close ones like Sveden and Masaa were my first stops, but I kept going and have been to some of the farther places.” He wanted to add ‘places that see Anders as a myth and not fact’ but decided to bite his tongue. They had just gotten off that topic and he didn’t want to jump back onto it.

The girl listened to Lasair recall his travels. Masaa? Sveden? Odd names to places she could only imagine what they looked like. Maybe she would travel one day. Her imagination began to take over. But she remembered she should answer Clair's question. "I like to roam around the city. But that is about as far as I go." Elaine shrugged. She could get places without much trouble, save for the Barracks. She avoided that place for fear of getting in the way of any important military things. A small breeze pushed through the alley with a whistle.
"Oh." She didn't know what else to say. She shivered and noticed the sinking sun in the distance, climbing behind ominous clouds as the threat of heavy rains pushed in from the seaside. "Maybe we should get inside somewhere..."

“There’s a pub nearby, but I’m not sure if ladies like yourselves would want to spend much time there.” Lasair looked over his shoulder at a popular pub just up the road. It was the first place that came to mind, but then again he spent a great deal of his time in those places.

"It won't bother me." Elaine said glancing up at the darkening sky. The smell of fresh rain was in the air. Elaine didn't fancy being cold and wet at the same time. And pubs were of no bother to her as a place to pass the hours although she didn't drink. She turned slightly looking down the street towards the warm lights. "You know your way around don't you Lasair?" She grinned at him.

“Well I gotta know where all the excitement is. Are you alright with heading over there, Clair?” Lasair turned to look at Clair before glancing back towards the place in question. It was one of the better pubs. Had nice service, very few drunken fights. They were good about kicking someone out when he had too much. Only the respectable places would actually cut someone off.
