Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
"Yeah, that's certainly true." he said in response to Amon's statement. Life certainly wasn't fair. It had taken away his old life, his family, and even his guild. Now there was a chance that he'd lose Caitlin as well. No, Life was far from a perfect fairy tale. It was only by focusing on what he could still do that kept him going. One day this girl wouldn't have to wear gloves to hide who she really was.
"People out there, out in the city and far across the world, they don't see you, not the real you. They see something that scares them. Someday that will change. I mean to see it happen so no one will have to hide who they truly are." Skye said, his words building as he spoke.

Pearl didn't want to scare anyone. Unless it was Harrowing time. Or the person was bad. If it was regarding bad people, she'd happily scare them to the hills and far beyond after wetting their pants for the whole city to see... although she hadn't managed to scare Stephen's perverted dad that last time. She had to improve her frowning face still.
The girl turned to look at Skye when he started speaking. Until that point she had not heard his voice still, and she still wasn't sure who he was either. Edel had said he was a friend, but even though Pearl prided herself in being somewhat good at reading people she could only see him as a blank paper. What was he called, what did he do, what did he like, who was he in general. He was missing an eye, but most people around there were missing something too. She glanced behind. Edelweiss just gave her a smile and a nod, and she walked up a couple steps before doing a little curtsy that looked kind of funny considering the 'hem' of her dress was actually a frilly tutu. "I'm Pearl, nice to meet you. What's your name?"

He wasn't sure how he should respond. Was it safe in here to give his real name? Would the kid even know what that name meant or who he used to be. What if she said she'd seen him to another kid and the EIRAL overheard that. She'd get dragged in for questioning. Best to not place her in any danger. "My name is Val, and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well."
"...What an awfully convenient change of heart," Amon thought bitterly, keeping a completely neutral expression and body language, the only thing betraying his thoughts was a subtle twitch of his metal finger. Granted, there was word that Skye was slowly changing his ways prior to the Jack the Ripper fiasco; that, plus the whole being framed, a long incarceration, and being saved by Anders would change a man.
But still...some scars run deep.
"Regardless," he thought with a small smile, seeing Skye introduce himself as Val, "This would seem to be a perfect opportunity to test out his alibi..."

Edelweiss noticed Amon's little twitching, but she wasn't sure what caused that other than that seemed to be something he did when he was uncomfortable, so she just smiled slightly and patted his back once before leaning down to pick up the doughnut boxes that had been left on the floor. She was thinking something that was at the same time the same and the pole opposite of the mechanic's line of thought: "This seems like a perfect opportunity to test out Pearl's informant skills." Jade was busy keeping an eye on Andronikos and any other EIRAL officers the large man walked close to, Almandine was monitoring the streets and both Jasper and Ember set in and out repeatedly on command at the speed of wind, but Pearl didn't have any set targets to stay on lookout yet and she was indeed reaching the stage to be actively put on duty. That silverlined age where children were already old enough to understand things reasonably, but still young enough that most adults saw them as pure, innocent little angels - perfect for information gathering, even though that might sound twisted. Maybe the redhead could catch two birds with one stone and check how Pearl's practice was going while also helping Skye with his own deceit practice. This could be interesting.
Pearl blinked. The feeling of "Something amiss." stung on the back of her mind, but she couldn't catch exactly what. It had been a short introduction too, so even harder to define where the lie lied. Was that not his name, or did he simply not have a good first impression of her and only said it was a pleasure out of politeness? Well, she should have about 2 hours before the other girls come back to report, and if Edel and her guests didn't leave before then (or didn't took her with them), 2 hours would also be the time she'd have to chat and find out the truth. She smiled slightly and a mildly excited expression took over her face. "Did Edel show you the whole building already? We have a library too... or at least you can call it a books room, I guess. Do you like books?"

Skye raised an eyebrow, well really the only eyebrow he could raise. Was the girl now offering to give him a tour? He didn't even know her and besides he wasn't a fan of kids, even if she was a cute one in that pink tutu. Did she really want to be a dancer? "No, I haven't seen the whole building and yes I am a fan of a good book. From your talk earlier I assume you've read a few of them yourself." Books were a good escape, and at least you could expect most to have a happy ending. So different from the way life often went. Happy endings were for other people. The real people of this planet had to struggle, and become stronger with each step, but there was naught but death waiting at the end of that path.

"A few, yeah. When Alma isn't hoarding them all to herself. What's your favorite book?" Pearl asked next, obviously needing a distraction (and chatting was a very valid one) to not end up whinning in discomfort while Edelweiss helped her to put her a-tad-too-little gloves back on. "I like the works of Franz Kafka. Not sure if there were any Anders where he lives, but The Metamorphosis looks like the story of a man who woke up one day and his race had been found out. So Gregor wouldn't really be a literal insect, but the people around him saw him as one. At least the cleaning lady still talked to him some times, so the story didn't turn out too lonely."
"That's enough for now, young lady. You can keep tagging along if you want to chat, but go change back into your normal clothes before you chat Val's ears off." Edelweiss 'chided', looking more amused than actually nagging and just looking as the young girl hurried to change back into her proper dress. She'd be back in just a couple minutes.
"I don't think I have a favorite, but I have read Gulliver's Travels a few times through. I find that there is something new to discover upon each reading." Was his response. The girl was very eloquent, and the fact that she was reading Kafka showed an advanced level of understanding. Well, somewhat of an understanding. Still, every person reading a book used their own experiences to understand the world about which they were reading.
Edel told the girl to go change and she ran off after putting on her gloves again. Perhaps all kids weren't like the spoiled brats he'd dealt with in the past.
Now it was Amon's turn to be silent during the exchange, steadying his arm after Edel had given him a pat on the back (did she notice? Whatever). Val was doing pretty good thus far, just one problem: depending on where he was hiding, being that learned in literature could raise some suspicion.
Ah well...let's just see how this goes...

Edelweiss wouldn't find suspicious to find a sailor who enjoyed reading Gulliver's Travels. Sailors dealt with merchandize afterall, and if said merchandize were imported or exported literature, why couldn't they have read it at some point? Knowing -nothing- of it, unless it was the result of a complete lack of interest or from being a total novice, sounded much more attention-grabbing for her.
Pearl returned a few minutes later, in the same dress she had been wearing that last time she'd visitted Amon's shop (with a large list of things that in their majority he wasn't even specialized in): white boots, striped long leggings, and a greyish blue sleeveless dress that with a simple hat that matched it. "Where to now? Anything you want to see? Or read?"

"Wherever you think is best to start." He smiled and gestured towards the exit. She certainly looked more the part of the innocent little girl now, and her gloves fit into the outfit. No one would think of the claws hiding just under the surface. "I always enjoy a good book, but I don't think Edel would appreciate me pilfering her library."

The redhead laughed, replying as they started moving to leave. "Perhaps you might witness this in person someday, but you'd face much more 'lack of appreciation' for unauthorized library touring from my Second-in-command rather than me. Pilfering aside, I don't mind if you read in there - just remember to put any volumes you take out back in their due places when you finish it and we're good."
And don't sugarcoat the pages with sticky fingers from eating doughnuts, there was that too. While she only saw visitors doing that with slight disapproval out of being careless to things that belonged to another person, Stephen might have an actual seizure at that.
"...Yeah..." Amon said with pleasant smile nodding in agreement. Stephen was one to be obsessive about books, given that he had his own private library that he was willing to kill for.
"What kind of books do you guys have?" he asked as he moved to follow, keeping the conversation going.

"About everything, I guess." She shrugged, giving a relaxed smile along the answer. "Accounting and arts books are a given, then there's culinary and varied manuals, and enciclopedies or history, but the younglings who work around tend to have a taste for poetry and fiction so about half of the shelves are filled with any stories that go from sugary fairytales, classic epics and dark horror... and some assorted authors like Kafka, as Pearl was so kind to remember." Not to mention some novels that were... improper to minors, but those were kept at the very top shelves and the redhead made sure to emphatize whoever read them became responsible for placing them back or facing the due consequences.
"Alma and Jade both love the Camelot saga, but no matter how many times I read or hear the stories Arthur always looks too sad for me."

Skye nodded to all their comments. The Barracks had had a similar library with entire sections on battlefield tactics and history, but he had always wondered over to the fiction section. In that way he could live other lives while still being tied to his station. Now he was on his own adventure more like the Count of Monte Cristo than Arthur or Gulliver. Bad things were on the rise, but he was going to clear his name and get his revenge. Death wasn't easy enough for a man like Alistair. Perhaps he should read that book again sometime soon. Perhaps there was more in common than his original analogy. How had the man gone about his revenge? He had gotten rich first, that much was memorable.
"Well seems like a good as place as any to start our tour," He smiled.
