Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Ah, you should really see the twins someday, Val. They're like little kids with large eyes (and who just happen to have metal faces). Quite cute." The redhead chuckled.

"...Yes Val...why would I ever build anything small?" Amon said sarcastically as he pulled out a clockwork beetle out of his bag, letting it fly around the room once before it returned to his hand.
"In all seriousness, I'm glad I gave you that doughnut Edel, cause he's right, though the reasoning's off," he continued as he put the beetle away. "Yes, it's easier to start big and make your way down for certain projects, and yes, most of those parts are smithed. Truth of the matter is, the Twins were an accident; I'll spare you the finer details, but I essentially broke a personality core and in trying to fix it ended up making two working cores. Add to the fact that I was running low on materials and the next available shipment wasn't going to arrive in weeks, and you can see why they are small; ended up having to re-smith everything. In the end, it was worth it: two (semi) stable personalities representing each sex...ended up having to use reverse engineering to figure out how they work..."
"So, what's next?"

"Well one can't expect to win everything." The redhead replied with an eyeroll and amused grin at that comment from Amon that he was glad he gave her that doughnut and the fact he was showing off his engineered products (again). There were plenty more doughnuts in those boxes still and the game was finally reaching the stage she wanted to show Skye - that stage where people could guess things right for the wrong reasons or be misled from the truth for actually right thoughts, and where no one really got an answer 100% accurate. It was a key factor in what he should learn here. Lies weren't clear as black and white, there was a grey zone to everything and even truths could be somewhat flexible.
It was Skye's turn now, and Edelweiss just sat back waiting to hear what he would say this time, but that intention was interrupted by a knock on the door. She lifted first only her gaze to see a really pale teen standing by the entrance, then the rest of herself to go see what was going on. "Did anything happen? My next couple hours should be free still--" The answer was whispered in her ear and Edelweiss had a snicker fit before managing to stiff the laughter again and turn back to look at Amon and Skye. "Sorry, there's a little emergency, I'll have to put our game on hold for a bit... Do you mind coming with me while I go solve it? Won't be a long walk."
"Truth be told I could use a good stretch of the legs," he found that having so recently been unable to walk on his own, that he was enjoying his sense of mobility. There was nothing like loosing something to appreciate it all the more when it was returned.
He also wasn't upset that his turn had been interrupted. He understood a bit more about subterfuge now, but that didn't mean he wanted to think up another half truth just now. He'd been a very open person before, and look where it got him. He was also curious as to what the person had whispered in Edel's ear.

Edelweiss tried to answer Amon's question of what happened, she really did. But every time she thought of it she had to supress another fit of snickers and in the end could only settle with saying "You'll see when we get there." and fetched the doughnut boxes to take with them.
First they had to pass by her office in the same building. Unlock the door then grab a cane left next to it to flip on the lights switch (she's not going to risk frying the illumination wiring around by touching it directly), a motion she was so used to doing through the years by now it felt as natural as if the cane was a extension of her hand. She let the two look around the room if they want to, the soft carpet and bookshelves and the heavy curtains blocking any sunlight from the window, while she went to fetch a bunch of keys from the desk's drawer; selected and detached the one she needed, then off the switch and out the room they go again. This time they'd be going outside the Main Theater, towards a building Skye had seen at one of the previous times they met... or at least he'd seen the back of it. The twenty minutes walk would lead them to the front of it this time, where there were no children playing and all adults walking by looked strictly human - Amon's metal arm was probably the only thing detecting at least half of those people had Ander blood.
As they walked around though, the redhead couldn't help but glance at the Ex-Commander. ".... Val, you're doing it again." That soldier gait. She'd not noticed it the previous times, but that could be attributed to the fact he'd been recovering... it wasn't exactly a good thing to see it now though. While not openly suspicious it did call some attention towards him even if people wouldn't be able to pinpoint why. No sailor walked like that.
Skye took in everything as they walked, noting their location and the route they had take. It was an old habit, and being aware of one's surroundings had saved his live on more than one occasion. From her pleasantly decorated office to the streets they had walked on a previous occasion. So it was no wonder he was falling back into old walking habits as well. A lifetime spent in drills and on marches was a hard thing to break. He wasn't exactly sure what a normal was anymore.
"Hard things to break, habits," he said with a smile as he tried to emulate one of the dock workers he had seen earlier that day. Maybe he should add a limp. He did try even though he was afraid he probably looked even more ridiculous.
Amon simply followed, taking in the sights (as much as he could) of their route, stifling a chuckle at how Edel had to operate her lights, and simply trying to continue familiarizing himself with her district.
Though he couldn't help but notice Skye's...walk(?)...especially after Edel pointed it out, and even more so after he tried to correct himself.
"...Okay, try not doing...whatever it is you're doing," he said, watching Skye attempt to imitate a limp. "You'll probably re-figure out the whole walking thing at some point, but unless you already have an injury, best to not pretend you have one else you get called out for it."

"Don't laugh, Edel, it's not funny." She mentally chided herself as she watched Skye switching his military gait for... that thing she wasn't sure what to call. He looked like a puppet with a random loose string. It -was- kind of funny yes, and it was hard not to snicker at it, but it wasn't his fault. Changing the way someone walked took a lot of practice.
"Well in a strict sense, there are similarities between groups but no one moves -exactly- the same way. Small changes for yourself rather than mimicking someone else will look more natural: you can start with just relaxing your posture and steps some so they won't be so precisely rhythmed." And after he gets better at it she could give other tips, like instead of stepping with the whole foot at once just place his heel first then move to the foot tip during the step to reduce that exact-paced march noise. But he'd have to master the easier basic things first before she mentions the more complex things, or it'd be useless. At the very least though, as long as he stops with the fake limp thing, no one would be looking over thinking he's going around drunk... like that wobbly guy leaning against the wall... who was then coming towards them... oh heavens this was not going to be amusing.
Skye corrected himself again. Why was he having so much trouble not being military. There was a time when he was just a kid wanting nothing more than to lie around and party with friends. Now the life he'd never chosen was hanging onto him like a shade. He listened to Edel, noting her face as she tried not to laugh, and concentrated on not walking on a beat. Relax your shoulders, step off beat, no that just made him step at a different rhythm. Why must things be so difficult.
His attentions shifted to the man coming towards them, and his demeanor shifted automatically to ready for action, like a cat with its hackles up. He didn't know if this person was a threat, but he would damned well be ready if the situation turned.

The unknown man just made an unstead beeline while walking towards them, finishing by invading their personal space and "Heeeey buh-ddies, why so teeeense~" wrapping his arms around the shoulders of whoever he could grab first while slurring and turning to look at Skye with this squinty-eyed drunk grin. "Ya kno'de way to da neares' bar?"
"You sound like you already drank more than enough. "
"That's watda barman from de las' one sai', he was so ANNoyIN'... Gimme a han', 'kay~"
Although Amon's arm became tense, for the most part, he exhibited a casual appearance...despite screaming internally and trying not to gag at the overwhelming alcoholic stench.
"Now now," Amon said, removing the man's arm from his shoulder. "Let's not deprive the man of his liquor..."
"See buddy, here's what you have to do: go forward until you get to that allyway, then take a left. Continue forward, then take another left. Just keep repeating that a couple of times, and you'll be there in no time. Now get to it! Your alcohol is waiting!" he said giving the man a gentle push in the general direction.
"That should keep him busy," he muttered, so that only Skye and Edel could hear.

There the man gave something like a stumbled half-step towards the general area Amon had directed him to, then stumbled backwards and took a second to steady himself (as if that was possible)... actually using the eyepatched mechanic as a crutch. "Wher'is 'left'? " He glanced back at them.

In the past Skye would not have condoned this type of activity. He would have had the man arrested and tossed into a cell until he was sober again. What if this guy decided to go home and beat his wife? What if he injured himself. The good sameratan inside him wanted to escort the man back to his home and make sure he stayed there, but the rational part of him knew that would draw too much attention. He wasn't EIRAL, and if they spotted him they would toss both men into the drunk tank.
So he stayed quiet and watched the man stumble away. He didn't like just letting him go, but he was a guest here. "What if he gets himself killed?" Skye finally said, out of a need to do something.

Edelweiss took a deep breath. She didn't like the sight (or company) of anyone who was so obviously and completely smashed, but she could also understand the logic behind it enough that she couldn't fully condemn the action either. Some people drank because they were idiots - but some also did it because were depressed, despaired, or otherwise wanting to keep their minds as far away from reality as they could without dying. Cowardly, yes, but understandable - and the number of people like this had increased considerably since the start of Martial Law. At least this guy seemed to be a happy-drunk type.
"That's a valid concern..." She replied to Skye, watching as the drunkward stumbled and (again) started annoying Amon, who apparently was feeling too gentle to shove him off for real. Sigh, she didn't have time for this... Well, at least that made for a still, easy target, so she just leveled her wrist up to neck level and hit the man's nape with the side of her hand (not strong enough to damage the spine, just to put that only-partialy-rational excuse of a person to sleep - Tiny glimpse of UC V). His body went limp and slid down to the ground, but was still breathing, therefore alive.
"Can any of you drop this sad sod on a couch to sleep his alcohol off, please?" She turned to some of the workers that were passing by. "And if he still wakes drunk, standard stuff: giant expresso coffee and a cold shower." And if her two guests aren't too traumatized by this little alcoholic incident maybe the three of them could finally restart walking and enter the building.
