Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Lasair was almost disappointed that she didn’t reply into the mind link, but didn’t hold it against her. Instead he held his hand up, summoning a little flame that came to life at his fingertip. The little ember moved and danced I his hand, bouncing around with fake happiness. “What do you know?” he asked, not breaking concentration on the flame. It came to rest on the back of his hand for a moment, the tiny orange flame flickering slightly. Pyromancy was his oldest skill, the magic coming to him in his time of need when he was a younger man. He was curious as to what his friend had taken her time to practice.

She watched the flame dance about and it made her quite happy. He was indeed skilled with it though it was small. However, when he asked her about her skills smiled and raised her hands and pressed a mild burst of air at Lasair, enough at least to give him a little push. "Areomancy is new, though I'm not very good at it yet." This was true and it was clear she didn't quite use it often. There was no definitive focus on her use of it. "But watch this!"
She shapeshifted into a small dog, short legs and a stumpy tail with super fluffy fur. A dark-colored corgi. She tilted her head at him causing her ears to flop over lazily. She could change into some things far more grandiose for this but she found the small form of the cute puppy to be a favorite. The art of shapeshifting was fun and intriguing when you got to see the world from different perspectives. It was one of those shapes that could nearly get you anything you wanted. Elaine-the-corgi jumped up a bit to make a few circles in place and put her dainty little paws on his leg to bark a few times. Eager to hear his thoughts and hopefully a laugh. Her little tail just wagging as happy as could be.

The redhead fell backwards a bit as she gusted him, his face breaking into a smile. It was impressive to see what sorts of magic she could do, how the magical substance affected her and how she manipulated it. His eyes opened wide as she shapeshifted, that brand of magic still relatively new to him. He dabbled in a little bit of everything so it wasn’t completely foreign, but still surprising. But as she barked at him a little, her tail wagging happily, he couldn’t help but smile and laugh. She was excited, that’s for sure. “Do you ever play with your dog like that?” he teased, reaching out to pet her and scratch behind her ears. “It’s cute, I will say that much,” he added in, still smiling. As cute as a dog version of herself was, it wasn’t his preferred version of her. Seeing her as her regular human self always made him the happiest. For one thing, the dog didn’t have freckles or the deep eyes that held such kindness towards him. She was happy as a puppy, sure, but he felt like it wasn’t the same. Shapeshifting wasn’t a magic he planned to study right away; like necromancy it was a more nitty-gritty type of magic. He preferred his dancing flame.

That's what she wanted, a laugh and that beaming smile she liked to see. It looked so fine on him. Elaine enjoyed the scratches for a minute or two and vowed to never deprive Castiel of them ever. Shifting back to actually reply to him, the weight of his hand falling down to rest on her shoulder and she felt it pull a few curls as they tangled but it wasn't uncomfortable. They'd untangle themselves shortly. "I do every now and again. We go for runs in the street but for that I prefer to be a slightly larger dog, bordering Cas's size. Every child in Lodan wants a puppy to take home." It kept her from getting picked up by random children off the street, a dog of a larger size couldn't be carried off like a stuffed animal. Not that she didn't enjoy making some of the local children happy when they got to see a puppy they could pet and play around with. Castiel would even join in from time to time, playing fetch for an hour or so before Elaine would lead them back home. A surprising amount of people tried to feed her in that form as well. She wasn't exactly one for table scraps however the gesture was appreciated.
"I like being a cat as well, I can get by with long naps before anyone really knows what's happened." She laughed. A variety of other animals came to mind but woodland creatures were not exactly what you'd expect to find in the city so she tried to avoid those. Being an owl, as an afterthought, was absolutely fantastic. Lasair would love it. "Your taste, however, may lean more towards an owl or a hawk, you could fly anywhere you like."

Lasair laughed, struggling to free his hand from the hair that entangled it. “I was never a kid who wanted to take a puppy home, if that’s any consolation. I prefer you in your human form by a long shot.” Even after his hand was free, it lingered on her arm a moment before he realized it and pulled it back. While he knew the basics of shapeshifting, it wasn’t his favorite magic in any sense. It just always left him feeling a bit odd; he’d rather stay comfortable in his own skin. At her mention of enjoying naps, he chuckled again. “I’m not surprised you enjoy being a nap cat. I don’t think I’d much enjoy flying though. The risk of falling would weigh too heavily on my mind. But it’s a fun thought.”
Before he continued talking, he lifted a hand to say ‘one moment’ and then closed his eyes, focusing in his mind. A projection of himself appeared next to them, the magical figure smiling and waving to Elaine, as if to say ‘hey look at me!’ It was a basic form of the magic, enough to show off to her.

"If you're a bird I'd expect you to know how not to fall..." She teased as he held up his hand which made her go silent. Ah, projection! Elaine's oldest companion. The feline broadly smiled and waved back at him. "I know that magic as well. Though I only know of one other person who makes use of it." Brownie points for the fox for her original favorite magic. "You already seem like quite the expert at magic, having all those skills can only mean knowledge behind them. You're well on your way to that goal." She laughed and leaned back on her hands to stretch her legs out to the side. "You will come to show off for me once you master them all right?" Her voice had a taunting lit but her question was somewhat genuine. Something to look forward to later on.
She wondered what it would be like to know and have mastered all the kinds of magic, perhaps Lasair could tell her one day. She would look forward to it.

His projection faded and he opened his eyes again, smiling at her. “I would love to show you everything. There’s one other spell I could demonstrate, but I was going to wait until you were ready to go home for that. Thank you for the compliments too. It’s nice to be appreciated for the time I’ve taken in my craft.” He flopped back down onto the grass, glancing between her and the stars happily. “I’m not an expert yet, by any means, but I did focus my time on learning a little bit of everything. The skills I specifically honed were the ones I viewed most useful. But I can’t exactly demonstrate the toxins magic to you; not unless you want to catch a cold tonight.” He teased her lightly, his happiness never leaving. He pulled up a blade of grass and played with it between his fingers.

Elaine laughed as he laid back and assured him, "I definitely don't want to go home with a cold right now but if I ever need one I'll give you a call." She looked over at him for a moment watching him play with a blade of grass with a smile before returning her gaze to the space around them. "Though Archie won't let me back in the store if I show up sick, probably." He, of course, wouldn't leave her out in the cold with a cold but she would confine herself to a room upstairs and she'd not really be seen by humans for the duration. She might need to get that magic if she ever needed to get out of a social gathering or an invitation.

“No colds for you then, save for the shiver of the night’s wind,” he concluded with a soft sigh, relaxing for the moment. He wanted to add in that she would be welcomed in his home if she were ever sick, but well, there wasn’t much room for that right now. Instead of focusing on that, however, he spent him time relaxing, the slight pull of sleep on his mind. He had been sailing this morning and then drinking and running around in the evening. It was a long day, but a fulfilling one nonetheless. And while he wasn’t in a hurry for it to end, he couldn’t deny that the lust for sleep was growing in his mind. Perhaps Elaine felt it too and was ready to go, perhaps not. For now, he needed to focus enough to keep from drifting, else his magic might waver and disaster could ensnare. Best to avoid that.

Elaine was used to being up late at night, this was still fairly early for her as she looked up at the sky. She looked over at her friend, "Would you like to go home?" She could lay down and probably sleep if she got really set on the idea or she might take a little run before she finally settled in. She'd love for Lasair to walk her home but that could be out of his way and she didn't wish to inconvenience him any. "It is getting a little late." The feline stretched a bit on the spot to prepare to get up just in case he was ready to go. The night would only get colder if they stayed.

Lasair sat up and nodded, stretching his arms out around him. “Yeah, I think it’s a bit late. The sun might start to rise anew if we stay out much longer.” He chuckled and then stood up, offering a hand to Elaine to help her join him. He didn’t start walking though; instead he lingered in the little clearing of flattened grass that surrounded them. It was hard to tell what direction they had come from, but the bits of trampled grass was a good clue. He didn’t intend to walk home however.
“Give me a moment, I want to show you something.” He focused his magic into the air around him, summoning a portal for them to cross through. The only safe space Lasair could think of to teleport them to was in the Merchant’s district; safe meaning that no one would be nearby to see this random portal shimmer into existence. He picked a small alley that was nestled behind his parent’s old shop, it was near impossible to get into unless you were coming out the back door of the building. Once there, it was pretty easy to climb out or squeeze through the small fence.
His magic connected, the image in his mind clear enough and the tear in space opened before them, the dark alley on the other side, empty and waiting for an occupant. Lasair gestured forward. “After you, madam. It’s safe, I assure you.” He gave her a reassuring smile. Hopefully she wouldn’t protest; else he might lose his hold on the magic while trying to explain it to her.

She chuckled as she took his hand and stood ready to walk back but it appeared that Lasair had other plans. She stood by his side curiously watching him focus with a little tilt of her head and an arch of an eyebrow. What was he up to now? With so much magic under his belt, he needed a new nickname. Elaine grinned to herself as she thought about calling him The Magician for the remainder of his time on earth. When the portal opened it broke her out of her thoughts by making her jump a bit, she hadn't been prepared for it. "Oh! You were holding out on me?!" She questioned him with a playful glare before she peered through the portal. Her eyes narrowing a bit as she gave it a swift look around before she jumped on through, even if Lasair said it was safe. She didn't want to make a habit of blindly jumping through things. It's bad for the health y'know.
She didn't keep Lasair waiting long of course because she stepped through it with a little bounce and into the alley behind the shop. She heard familiar sounds of the late night Merchants District and at least knew where she was somewhat. She wasn't familiar with the back of said shop but she'd get her bearings after Lasair came through behind her. She stepped to the side out of his way and looked up at the sky just to see that her stars had vanished in the lights of the city again. It made her a little sad to see but she could always return to the spot another night if she wanted. The green-eyed feline looked back over her shoulder to see Lasair come through. "No wonder you pop up in random places."

Lasair chuckled as he followed after her, letting the portal close behind them. “I wouldn’t say I was holding out, merely waiting for the proper moment.” He respected that she took a moment before hopping through it, showed that she was wiser than a younger version of herself might have been. He figured that she might not recognize the exact place where they appeared, but she didn’t seem to be too worried about it. He walked over to the loose fence and pushed it aside, holding it open for her. “It’s a bit hard to find locations that are discrete enough for this sort of travel, but I make use of what I can. Should just be a short walk home now, yes?” He smiled at her, proud of himself for being able to impress her and also happy that she trusted him enough to travel this way.

"The rooftops are quite secluded usually but with your distaste for heights, I doubt you'd make use of them." She laughed with a little smirk as she walked through the open fence. Archie's wasn't far from here and the jump through space had made the walk much shorter. As they came around from behind the building Elaine realized what it was though she simply overlooked with a passing glance. "You can always appear in Archie's shop, all the shelves will keep you out of view from the windows." Archie was used to Elaine bouncing in and out like the wind so random Anders would be much different surely she thought with a chuckle. It seemed Lasair didn't always use it for commonplace travel so, for emergencies or quick travel like tonight, Archie's was unassuming and practical. She waited till he was by her side to continue towards the old curio that now looked decent after a bit of effort. They had to replace multiple windows since the events of the FOH and with that Archie had added some additional remodeling to porch and steps, having them redone in stone. It looked much nicer. Now if only she could make him do the inside as well. "Thank you for coming out with me tonight." Despite going over a few difficult topics she had truly enjoyed the evening.

Lasair shrugged, thinking over her suggestion. “Both sound like good options. The catch is that I need to be really familiar with a place before hand. I guess that means you’ll have to invite me over more often.” He gave her a wink and smiled, hoping she wouldn’t mind the fact that he was inviting himself over. In truth, he tried his best to only use the teleportation when he really needed to get somewhere. It always took a significant amount of magic so withholding it was better than expending it near daily.
He walked along with her for a ways, making sure she got to her destination without a hiccup. “Thank you for accompanying me tonight. It’s… been really nice catching up with you.” He gave her a hug and exchanged a few more words before turning to walk him. It would be a long walk home but he could manage it just fine. It was a nice night after all.
