Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
It took quite a bit of talk and persuasion, but with some luck Lasair finally found his way onto a ship going for a short voyage to trade some goods. He wasn’t sure how the leader of the rogues would react, or if she even knew who he was, but he was determined to have a place nonetheless. His goal was threefold; get out of the city for a little while (Sayvahn could handle himself for a couple months, especially with Lasair promising to back quickly), do some hard work to get his body back in shape, and spread a little bit of talk and rumors to the other Anders aboard the vessel. Nothing big, just a few seeds of gossip. Hopefully word would spread to the other ships and a handful of Anders would make their way to his guild. There was no guarantee, but he had to try. After all, many a Ander worked at the docks. One could pull a rope and tie a knot without messing up any technology.
But now that he was back, he felt renewed. It had been a pleasure working with the crew. While a bit rough, they were still kind. He found himself with renewed strength and a clearer head. Now he had to just help everyone unload and then he would be on his way.
He stood at on the dock, watching as the last of the cargo was being lowered down with ropes and pulleys. “Oi, Lassy. Make sure this goes to the captain’s pile; she needs to inspect it personally,” one of the crewmen called down to him. He smiled and gave a thumbs up before picking up on of the large boxes and walking off with it. A few other people followed behind him, forming a small line as they walked across the dock and deposited them next to a small pile of boxes. There was a much larger pile off to the side. With just another trip or two, he should be free to go.

It had been a long few months Elaine thought as she smelled salt on the sea breeze that pushed her hair in strings across her face. A whole lot of crazy happening and a lot of trouble. Her head buzzed with the ideas as she watched the ground pass by under her feet as she lightly tapped over the cobbles near the docks. The tapping gave way to a lighter, more hollow sound as her feet passed from stone to the wood. It was only her footsteps as the usual padding of paws was absent from the sounds and from her side. The noise however faded into the bustle of the ports as it always did. The place seemed awfully busy today as a ship sat docked at nearly every post available and cargo littered every inch of the docks that wasn't considered walkways. Elaine smiled a bit to herself and wondered what it would be like to be out on the sea. She'd heard many tales of voyages before, anything from grand islands full of beautiful girls and food to basic sea delusions of monsters chasing boats and sinking them. (Usually, the one survivor is the one chugging some ale at the time.) Although, it probably wasn't a lifestyle she'd enjoy. She preferred her rooftops to much of anything else save for flying, but that was merely convenient. She reached up a hand and thumbed at her necklace absently.
Her trail led her past men moving crates and while that is usually a normal sight one of them caught her attention with a little jump of excitement in her chest. A flash of red hair had gone by in the small crowd and she wouldn't lie, she'd be totally beside herself to see one of her two good friends at any time now. Though she thoroughly doubted it was what she had instantly thought so she turned her head back int he direction she'd been walking and went to move on. Her green eyes betrayed her resolve though with one flash of a glance sideways as the crowd thinned a bit. Her brain took a moment to put realization in motion and she made a bit of a sudden veer to the right ducking under some ropes. That red hair was no red herring, it was someone Elaine was happy but confused to see. She pushed her way through a few people politely and sped up to a quick jog as she came upon him, "Lasair? What in the queen's name are you doing?" The feline falling back just a few paces to see if he turned around. An uncertain smile on her lips.

The redhead man almost didn’t catch the sound of his voice being called, but a moment later he paused and glanced over his shoulder, catching the eyes of a friend he hadn’t seen in ages. “You guys can handle the rest right? I got a friend to catch up with.” A couple sailors turned around and gave Lasair a whistle when they saw Elaine, but they didn’t mind finishing up the last bit themselves. Released from his labor for now, Las walked up to her and pulled her into a tight hug. “It’s been ages, hasn’t it? I haven’t been back in the city for long so I apologize for not getting back in touch. I uh. Was out of town unexpectedly.” After letting go, he scratched the back of his head, offering a small smile. He wondered if she had missed him, or if she had tried to find him when he disappeared. Worry jumped into his mind, but hopefully he could handle it.
Pointing at the boat, he realized he should answer her question. “I just got back from a short trip to sea. I needed some time to work my strength back up and sort out some things in my head. I’m staying back now, no more plans of disappearing.”

Elaine returned his hug with a laugh of glee as he spoke. "Welcome back!" She had missed him quite a bit in truth. Nobody could quite replace the charming Ander once he won his way into their little circle. Without anyone, the city seemed desolate, even though it had a bustling populace because strangers were still strangers. Her green eyes scanned the ship curiously when he pointed it out and she nodded her head slightly impressed. It must've been a much-needed vacation of sorts for him. She should ask Lasair someday about his adventures again, he'd told her a little bit once but it'd be nice to hear more. At the idea she broke into a grin when she looked back up to him and stood a little taller. "Are you busy? If not, do you want to go out for a drink? My treat!" She offered eagerly clasping her hands together in front of her chest. Why not now? If he wasn't contracted to the crew for the rest of the evening of course. "You deserve a good celebration for coming back in one piece." She added with a teasing chuckle.

“Well, I’m afraid that I am busy,” he said with a bit of a shrug. “I had plans to go out with an old friend. And she just so happens to have beaten me to the invitation.” A silly grin came to his face as he offered his arm to her, remembering how he had does this for her several times all those years ago.
He was beyond happy that Elaine didn’t seem to mind his disappearance. Well, on one hand it was sad to think that she might not have missed him, but he knew better than to really think that. She probably just adjusted, as one does, and moved on. Sometimes that’s what a person does. Lasair mentally nodded to himself as he thought it over, returning his attention to the lady at his side.
“What have you been up to while I was gone? Anything new and exciting to share on our way to a good drink?” He figured it might be better to let her lead the way. He was a bit disconnected from the flow of things.

Elaine dropped down heavily on her heels when he said he was busy looking a little disappointed but she quickly livened again when she realized he was picking on her. Happily taking his arm and walking close as they passed by groups of people. She took the lead and drifted towards a lively part of the town. She'd offered him fun and fun he shall get.
His inquiry made her wonder briefly what all there was to tell. A very off FOH holiday? No, she didn't want to startle him any since she had no idea whether he knew or not. Best to leave it be. She also decided to avoid the fact that she hadn't seen anyone important to her, save for her parents and Archie, in a very long time. "Nothing much has happened honestly," She shrugged a little. "In terms of fun things worth being retold that is. Lodan has been...Lodan, and as for me it's been nothing but work and walks." She grinned and lightly nudged him with her arm. "However on this one I found something worth getting excited over!" Elaine was a bit tired looking in truth, lively yes, when she was feeling a sense of glee. But she looked older, in the dark green of her eyes and in how she held herself a bit more firmly. The city had bore down on her heavily in the last year. Nonetheless, she didn't let it stop her from being a cheerful soul. "Although..." She tapped her chin with her free hand then dropped it to fidget with her necklace again. The silver pendant being twisted gently back and forth under her fingers fluidly. "There is a new play at the Theater that got quite the rave recently. I highly recommend you go see it, the actors are wonderful!"

He smiled softly; happy that the limp he had grown into had mostly receded while working on the ship, else she might have noticed it by now. Truth be told, he was happy that the weeks of hard work really shaped him up, he felt like it really brought him back to be more like his old self. Glancing at her, he lifted his eyebrows, almost surprised that she didn’t have any fun tales to report. “I’ve been through hell and back,” he said, his voice sounding a little heavier than it should have. But that was before his boating trip. He had gotten some time to reflect on that. And promptly ignore it for future-Lasair.
“But coming back here was good, really good. I’ve missed everyone and I hope I can reconnect with more people soon. Have you heard from Zona K. Noakes at all? She was quite the feisty one but she always had a determined look. Oh and do you still have your dog? How’s he been?” Lasair was eager to get conversation going. It was a good way to brighten his mood.

She had given him a brief glance at the heaviness in his voice but watched it vanish as soon as it had begun. He asked about Zona which made Elaine look vaguely surprised then her gaze slid off to the side in discomfort. "No. I haven't seen her in a while...but yes I still have Castiel! He's gotten fluffier, if at all possible." She wanted to partially avoid talk of Z or Keefe, both of which she hadn't seen. Talk of her dog though would bring the life back into her anytime. "He's learned a few new tricks and I would've brought him with me today but he was more interested in the rug at home." She smiled softly tilting her head fondly as she remembered the stubborn pooches lazy tail wag when she tried to beckon him outside. She returned her eyes to him curiously as she gently nudged them to take a turn down a different street, "Why haven't you ever gotten a pet Lassy?"
Post by Lasair Landevier Lupen on Oct 24, 2018 2:29:46 GMT
Ah right, Castiel. He had lost the dog’s name in his time away, but Elaine’s had never escaped him. She was one of his best friends, after all, and always a beam of sunshine around him. “Does he aid you in your rebellious acts of mischief?” Lasair asked with a teasing smile. But as to the question of why Lasair never had a pet, he simply shrugged, the smile losing some of its focus. “Animals and I have never really gotten along. Not my thing, I guess. I think they’re pretty and all, but seven out of ten cats hiss at me if I try to approach them. So I just let them live their life while I live mine.” It had always left him a little apprehensive to animals, but when one was kind to him, it really brought a smile to his face.
As they got further into the city and farther from the docks, Lasair couldn't help but notice that the atmosphere was a bit different. Things weren't so welcoming anymore, everyone's shoulder was a bit colder. It was like the city hadn't quite recovered from the festival of hearts incident. Perhaps nobody quite felt safe anymore. But then again, he had been absent for quite some time. Maybe the changes were so gradual that nobody really noticed them now. Maybe this was the way it had been for months. He really couldn't be sure, but it would take a lot of getting used to.

Elaine snickered, "Of course he does. I don't have anyone else to get into trouble with so he is my go-to." Castiel knew many tricks and he was a clever dog, often not taking long to learn a new trick if she set out to teach it to him diligently. His explanation though, of why he didn't have a pet, made her laugh. "So you're only good with people. I find that rather ironic considering you want to make friends with every living creature you see, usually." She added the last bit knowing he'd gone through a spell here something had bothered him so badly he wouldn't even crack a joke for her. She felt bad for being unable to help him at the time even though she didn't know what had been wrong. Now he was back to normal and she wouldn't question it. "If it makes you feel any better you have at least one feline on your side. And Cas thinks you're alright so that's a start." Castiel didn't really enjoy people, a continued habit from being a street dog once, but he warmed up nicely to people Elaine knew and interacted with.
She dragged her gaze around the street, inwardly feeling the same kind of distrust to those around her. She just stuck close by Lasair's side and used his height difference as a bit of shelter in a way. "Do you remember the first tavern you took me to? I believe the first time we ever actually went anywhere for fun." It had been so long since that time she realized with a bit of surprise. "It's been what? A few years?" Mumbling something teasingly about still probably not being able to drink anymore now then she did then.

“Has it really been that long?” he asked, genuine surprise covering his face. “I guess time really does pass, whether you’re watching it or not. Well, it’s never too late to get back into the swing of things and make some memories, right? So why don’t we make this a night that is quite worth remembering.” A big grin came to his face; he meant the words he spoke. It had been so long since they did anything together, why not make up for the lost time.
Looking around for a moment, the old memories of how to get around the city drifted back to him. “If I remember right, it should be just the next block over. What was that place called…the Drunk Skunk I think? Such a silly name, but the critter on their sign was always cute I must admit.” Not to mention that it was one of the places that had never had a problem with serving Anders. Some places would be weird about it, allowing them yet kicking them out quickly. But here, they didn’t care. As long as you had the money, they served you with a shrug. It was a place where Lasair had often stopped by to whisper invitations to his guild, ever on the hunt to invite people to his shelter and learn about their past. He vaguely wondered if the same bartender was there, or if he’d even remember the fiery guy. Lasair would have to find out when they got there.
Glancing sideways at Elaine, he couldn’t help but tease her again. “So are you gonna just want a sip of my drink, or can you handle your own?”
Post by Elaine Anncroft on Oct 25, 2018 14:41:25 GMT
His enthusiasm as more intoxicating than an actual drink as she felt excitement warm up in her chest. Elaine herself couldn't quite place the name since it had been so long and she had been in and out of so many different places, but it sounded familiar. "I am always a sucker for cute things." She chirped grinning as she leaned her cheek onto his arm playfully, if only for a few seconds. Their first time out in forever had her actually looking forward to the evening. Even his teasing went by fully appreciated even though she gave him a sassy nudge and a scoff. "I'm not that much of a lightweight thank you! Whatever you ordered me the first time we went out was suspiciously alcoholic in retrospect." She'd gotten so tipsy, and it had been slightly embarrassing now that she thought about it, however, it still made her giggle at the memory. "I think I can handle my own." She told him rather proudly as she stood a little straighter, a little bit of confidence never hurt. "The big question is, can you?" She gave him some raised eyebrows and a challenging little smirk. Turning them down the last stretch to the little tavern and loosening his arm enough to walk a bit ahead, eagerly waiting to reach the door of the tavern and slip inside.
As they got up to it she spotted the sign and in a personal tradition of luck she got right under it and jumped up to tap the wooden sign, making it swing back and forth a little. Turning into the small alcove where the door as and pushing it open, she wasn't as unsure of these places anymore and didn't really need Lasair's guidance to make herself comfortable. She held the door for him and then looked up at him for his expression as it closed behind him, "Where do you want to be?" There were tables and booths to one side and that fabled dance floor on the other. The bar stretched along the wall beside the door and was lined with stools that had seen many a year of patrons. They still sat solidly on the ground, only two known to wobble by those who came here often enough to have sat on them all. It was still rather early so the place wasn't quite as loud and rowdy as it would be later in the evening. Elaine was looking around as she tucked some curls behind her ears to get them out of her way and she was considering what exactly she was in the mood for. Something smooth and probably light would be wise.

“I’m always a sucker for cute things.” The moment she said that, Lasair turned to her and with a cheeky grin replied “Is that why you’re always falling for me?” He snickered a moment later, hoping that she enjoyed the teasing as much as he did. But upon being called out for supposedly getting her intoxicated, he feigned shock. “I’d never dream of giving you more alcohol than you can handle. Wouldn’t want you losing that quick tongue or calculating gaze, now would we? Don’t you worry about me; I’ve had my share of alcohol in my day already. I’ll refrain from getting too silly tonight, but please feel free to cut loose on my behalf.”
The fact that she held the door open for him was a bit of a surprise to him, but Lasair rolled with it all the same. After stepping through the doorway, he held his arm out to Elaine and led her to a booth against the wall. “Where do I want to be, you ask? Why, anywhere that’s beside you of course.” And true to his word, after she sat down he slid in next to her and flashed a grin. Evidently one of the waitresses had watched them come in because she walked over to the table just moments after they got comfortable.
“You fine folks look like you’re having a wonderful evening together,” she winked at them with a smile. “What kind of drinks were you looking to get tonight? Any food?” Lasair looked to Elaine first, wondering if she had anything specific in mind yet.

The young woman gave him a sly look as a blush rose on her cheeks. He was still as cheeky as ever and twice as flirtatious. Elaine, however, was not going to be cutting much loose on her own since she liked to keep her wits about her. She didn't doubt that Lasair couldn't watch her back and ensure that she didn't get into trouble, she just felt much safer having more of a relaxing evening. She took his arm and let him lead her to a cozy little spot in a more secluded area. Comfortable and quiet, a wonderful combination for the start of the evening. She cracked a laugh as he slid in next to her as almost a punctuation to his statement prior. He was such a tease. "If I didn't know you I'd have already accused you of being tipsy." She smiled looking up as a waitress came to their table.
"Just a glass of whatever is sweetest on tap, please." She didn't like heavy, smoky flavors as they made her throat burn uncomfortably. She also wasn't exactly hungry so she politely declined food, if she got a craving later she'd be sure to get something. Her green eyes slid over to the redhead at her side inviting him to choose whatever he pleased. Combing her fingers through her hair as he ordered what he fancied. He was sweet on her and she usually returned the playful banter that she enjoyed greatly. Her attention shifting a little as she brought the conversation back around, "Have you found anything interesting on your travels? I was wondering about it briefly when I found you. Any sea monsters I should be wary of when I go traveling in the future?" She leaned forward to rest her arms on the table to look at him with ease as she cradled her neck in one hand.

“Any kind of cider that you have, tall glass,” he said to the waitress with a smile. He’d taken a fancy to the spiced sweetness that alcoholic cider had and wanted to start off the night on a lighter note. He’d probably order some shots for them later on.
Relaxing in his seat then, he turned to face her as well as he could, stretching his arm out across the seat. “Well, honestly I’ve found quite a few shadow beasts. New ones are popping up all the time. I’ve been trying to keep a log of them, so that the information can be passed around more easily. But I’ve fallen a bit behind with refining stuff and making it neat enough to go into a book. Nothing coming from the sea though, just the usual source of the depths of the creepy dark forest.” He shrugged a little, unsure of how she’d take the information. He realized that she probably didn’t know about how he spent his free time really; he never did talk about it, huh? Well, she’d have a bit of an idea now and hopefully wouldn’t be too surprised. It was those dammed beasts that has kept him from Lodan for so long.
