Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Elaine didn't have record reaction times for Lasair's little attack though she wouldn't have tried to defend against it. Lasair wasn't going to hurt her unless accidentally. She made a soft 'oof' noise when they landed in the grass, cutting her gaze at him sideways since he was so close. She smiled and laughed gently by his ear. "You've got me." The feline admitted with a little shake of her head before lightly pressing her cheek to his, "But you're gonna have to let me go sometime. I can't be laying in the grass all the time." Her smile dropped a bit when she realized he's probably run off again into whatever place he felt was his sanctuary. It panged at her chest but she promptly ignored it and just looked up at the sky to take it in for a moment. Maybe...
"You should come walking with me some days." She told him honestly and smiled at the thought. Perhaps once a week. She'd definitely make the time for him. "We could catch a sunrise or get breakfast."

Her cheek was warm against his, her voice sounding soft in his ear. He rolled away, gazing up at the starry sky when he stilled. The grass tickled his ears and poked at his neck, but it was always gentle in its own way. “I don’t think I could hold onto you even if I tried,” he admitted with a small laugh. “You don’t really seem like the type that likes to be held back or tied up. Neither am I.” And yet, Lasair always had a knack for running into different hang-ups. Sometimes that meant needing to pull away harder.
But with Elaine, he wished to hang on, at least ever so slightly. “Some days?” he repeated, thinking about it in his head. “What days should that be?” Watching the sunrise was pushing it for him, but maybe he could start waking up early, or at least start being awake at that time. There were many a nights were time disappeared and books were the only thing he focused on.

With the absence of Lasair she felt cold, having to ward off a chill that wanted up her spine. She laid her hands acrorss her stomach as he spoke and laughed at the idea of not being someone to like being held onto. She didn't like being held down persay, just being held affectionately was something she could live with all day every day. The woman watched the grass sway above them for a moment as she thought about what days, seeing stars wink at her in between stalks of grass. "I was hoping we could go for a walk once a week but you are a busy man so perhaps once a month if you have the time. We could get lunch or whatever the moment calls for. If time is against us though maybe just a walk to the end of the street?" She was trying to ask for his time but not oblige him to make time for her.
She gave him a small sincere smile and pushed herself up on her arms a bit to look over the grass they'd flattened and then him again. He had grass stuck in his hair. "I missed you sorely." Elaine said, knowing such a feeling had been bugging her all night. She knew it was usual to miss one's close friends and to be rather overjoyed to have them back. Though Lasair could be a little dramatic at times, and overly pestering, she wouldn't trade him for anything. "If I can have a bit of your time every now and again Lodan won't be as lonely of a place." The feline looked a little embarrassed and raised her shoulders up but gave him a sweet little grin despite the fact. Elaine could wait as long as it took, a friend like him was worth waiting for.

The stars were like the moon; never much changing despite all the happenings in the world below them. Lasair looked up at them, trying to count how many specs and sparkles were up above, but lot his place every time. He rolled onto his side to look at Elaine then, the shine of the stars having spread to his eyes. “I think I can spare once a week. Maybe missing a week or two here or there because I know myself, but most weeks I think would work.” He reached out to place a hand on hers, her hand cold against his own. She was reaching out to him in her words, hopeful for him to accept her. And he wanted to let her in, wanted to spend that time with her. She was a charming girl to spend time with, what reason did he have not to seek her out again.
A pressing thought came to his mind then, a thought that caved for him to speak it aloud. He knew better than to say it, but somehow he just couldn’t help but let it slip through. “I wish you could have more of my time, I wish you could spirit yourself away and join me in my solitude. But, I’m going to try and work around it. Once a week is a good start after all, right?” His eyes were pointed to their hands, the warmth of the connection being the only thing connecting them at the moment. Truth be told, he was reaching out for her too, but not in the same way as she to him.

She was surprised about the response of once a week, most weeks. Her fingers twitching ever so slightly under his warmer hand. She appreciated his intention to try to come and to find a way to see her at least. However, his solitude was a mystery to her. He referred to it like it was his own so she took it as his solitude was self-inflicted. "What is so... infatuating to you that it keeps you almost under lock and key?" She questioned lightly, not wanting it to sound interrogative. Elaine did wonder truly what he kept referencing. The special place he wanted her to question earlier that she had ignored because the conversation had been bordering a dangerous subject. Now though, she had him at a more sincere point and she wanted to know. Elaine tilted her head at him in interest.

He thought back to their earlier conversation, when they were still inside and sharing drinks. He had wanted to tell her, yet was pushed away. While he knew that his guild had a promise of secrecy, that needed to be relaxed in order to pull new members in; else how would they know? But Elaine had said that she didn’t want to leave her job, no matter how dull she might claim it to be. Whatever it was, it certainly held her devotion and she had favored leaving the conversation rather than address it. He had a hunch that there was something else going on, but didn’t dare to ask.
Pulling his hand away for the moment, he sat up and scratched the back of his head. Words had be selected carefully. He couldn’t give everything away, but maybe he could make her curious at the very least. “I’m in a guild. And I’m very devoted to being there and working with them. And well,” he shrugged, pausing to choose his words. “I think you might like it there. But I know you’re already tied down elsewhere.” He didn’t have to say which guild it was, but maybe she would know without him telling. She was a clever girl and she was good at sneaking around. He wondered if she had ever seen him walking off into the trees, confidence in his step rather than fear. His guild was quite the well kept secret, so well kept that membership was dwindling. Lasair hated that fact, hated that people weren’t around. So, rumors needed to be made. People needed to be drawn in. And maybe Elaine could be one of those people. It’s not like there were many people in his guild to tell him not to do so anyhow. Being a guild leader meant he could bend the rules when the timing was right.
He nearly reached out to touch her hand again, but decided against it. Maybe a bit of space would be better here.

Elaine listened for a moment then realized that she knew who he was there. The introduction a while back and those magic lessons with CAEsAL not forgotten in her mind, simply faded. He didn't quite seem to remember the interaction so she'd leave it that way. "What's it like?" She continued thinking back on her own place in CAEsAL. The feline had fun with the people there but thoroughly despised the usual intentions of missions handed out. She couldn't remember taking one in forever and that made the weight in her chest lift a little. The less she was out the better it seemed to be and she was more than content to hide away in the Theater and just read and revise papers. She couldn't lie, she did often wonder what it would be like to have never arrived but then she wouldn't know Edel, or Zona, or even Stephen. If anyone could view her thoughts it wouldn't be quite a mystery as to why it was such a sore subject. She sat up more and curled her hands into her lap as she stared down at them in a solemn kind of silence so Lasair could answer. He liked where he was and he was devoted which was good, it made her happy for him.

He thought hard for a few moments, unsure of how to explain it without giving all the information away. “It’s welcoming. Always has been. It welcomed me when I returned from my absence. It’s… a place for knowledge. I’ve learned a lot in my time there. All the members have. Although I fear that a lot of them have been lost to the tides of war and pain. It was my home when nowhere else was.” A gentle breeze blew through, the cool wind carrying a chill to it. He wondered where the wind was going. For a moment he felt the urge to fallow after it, to chase the wind like he had done in the days of his youth. But now he had settled down, had been staying in the city for well over a year now. He couldn’t just get up and go following the moon or the stars anymore. But that didn’t mean he didn’t want to. In truth, he wondered what Elaine must think of his right now. She had said she missed him, yet now he turned around and was telling her of a secret club he was in, his emotional mind unable to stop himself from pawing at her to join him. It was silly, he felt silly, yet he dug his hole and kept going, hoping to hang onto that tiny piece of hope that she’s be interested in following after him.

Elaine smiled at his description as she curled her hands tighter in her lap at least until he got to the part about war dragging everyone away. "Well... I'm sure they'll come back. If any of them are anything like you." She stayed quiet for a few moments to just look up at the sky. Lasair had indulged her curiosity and she was grateful. It made her wonder more and more about this place he was speaking of. The heart of MI. It couldn't be anything like the underworld of the Theater...perhaps it was nicer? Calmer? She gave him a smile as she caved just a little to her wonder, "Maybe...maybe I'll see it one day?" It was as much of a promise as she could actually make at the time. Edel would be without help if she left and she didn't want to do that to her. However, she did see the hope in Lasair's blue eyes and it made her question many things. He must be as lonely as she was there with nobody to share anything with.

“Probably not,” he said plainly, in reference to people coming back. He didn’t want to seen rude, but he also didn’t want to hang onto any optimism. “Once people leave, they don’t often come back. I’ve only seen people come back…twice? But they didn’t stay long before drifting away again.” Danny and Ellowys came to mind, both of which previous guild leaders. Lasair had nearly followed in their footsteps, but managed to fight his way back through tooth and nail.
To her other comment though, he was silent for a long while, thinking about it. She could see it if she wanted to join, the wards usually accepting those with true intentions. But she belonged elsewhere. “I don’t think you’ll be able to visit. Secrets must be protected.” He glanced sideways at her, wondering if that phrase held as much meaning to her as it did to him.

She felt sorry for his lack of loyalty in a sense from the members. That made running any kind of group difficult if there was no one to one. She rubbed one of her wrists with the opposite hand like it was aching a bit and sighed. "Secrets are... the cornerstones of this city it seems." She muttered with frustration, not at him, but at her own thoughts. It made her want to leave the city and not exactly look back. Elaine reached up and ran her hands over her face and then smoothed her hair back to rest her hands over the back of her neck, her hair fluffing out under her fingers. "No information is free and it's hard to find a place to be. I'm glad you have somewhere to go Lassy." She really was.

In the brief break from talking, he scooted closer and leaned his head on her shoulder, thinking hard for a few moments. “Sometimes I wish it didn’t have to be that way. That secrets could be thrown to the wind without a consequence. It would make it so much easier to get to know one another.” He held his tongue for a moment, unsure of what to add in at the second part of her phrase but eventually came up with something. “I hope you have a place still too. That Archie doesn’t turn you away and that your guild never asks too much of you.” He wondered if maybe he asked too much of his own members, and that’s why they ended up leaving. Or maybe it was just his absence, as Sayvahn had said. Was Lasair really the glue that held his guild together? Now that things were kind of turning over anew, he hoped that he could set everyone up to last without him. He dearly wanted this guild to live on in his absence.
Maybe a shift from the negative topics was needed. He sat up and glanced to Elaine. “Hey… do you like magic?” Maybe he could show her a bit of what he had been working on lately.

Elaine lowered her hands and glanced at him in slight surprise when he leaned on her but she felt her lips curl up just a bit. She would never be turned away from Archie's of course and she always had her parent's home in emergencies. She heavily appreciated the sentiment he was making, however. The feline delicately nuzzled into his hair with a hum as she closed her eyes for a moment of solidarity until he asked her if she liked magic. She loved the magic of all kinds, both street magic, and real magic. "I love magic." She said reaching up and lightly flicking her fingers at his face causing a puff of air to blow over his cheeks with a little grin. "I don't use it as often as I'd like though." She'd gotten new skills and while she didn't use them often she did enjoy playing around with them from time to time. Elaine particularly liked shapeshifting. She raised her head off of his to curiously try to see what he was getting at.

“We’re out here by ourselves; wanna show off our skills? Play around a little? In truth, I hide away in my solitude studying magic a lot. I want to become a master at it one day.” He sat up and smiled at her, the breeze she caused not lost on him. To get things started, he tilted his head to catch her eye-contact and focused a few words in his head. A moment later she heard his voice in her head, the telepathy spell working its magic. For example, I can whisper into your thoughts and tell you how lovely this night is. As well as how lovely you are. He grinned as the message finished, waiting to hear what her answer might be. Somehow he felt more bold in speaking this way, wanting to compliment her further but holding his mental tongue, at least for now. If she looked away, the spell would end. But for now, they were linked.

If anyone could be a master of magic it was going to be him for sure. She held his gaze as he began speaking but she lit up with a broad smile at the familiar magic. She'd encountered telepathy before between herself and Edelweiss. "A fancy little trick. I'm almost impressed." She replied with a taunting little smirk as she pulled her knees up to her chest. "What else are you keeping up those sleeves of yours?" The moonlight dimmed and brightened again in the clearing a bit as a wispy cloud passed by. Though she didn't enjoy telepathy in a sense that it could give people an insight into her mind if it was strong enough, she did find it impressive and a useful kind of magic. Like necromancy. Maybe she would get it someday and improve it as a skill.
