Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Despite the way she tried to tease him back, he couldn’t help but feel like she was just being her usual playful self. She was lovely to be around, although he was almost sad that she didn’t have more curiosity over his cryptic words. “It might end up being me that protects you young lady,” he said with his own smirk. He brought his drink to his lips and took a decent draft from it, paused, and then slowly began drinking the rest of it in a series of quick gulps. He set his glass back down with a gently thud. “Ready whenever you are, m’lady.” His voice was nearly taunting her, but it was friendlier than that. Despite agreeing, he was still nervous that something might happen while they were out there. But maybe nothing would. They wouldn’t be able to find out unless they went on the journey, right? So might as well get it rolling.

There would be time for her to question those strange offers later, right now she was just wanting to avoid all talk pertaining to her job. She watched him down his drink in slight amazement and only took a final sip of hers before tossing a hefty tip on the table and nudging Lasair out of the booth so she could pay for the drinks at the bar. Prancing over the long bar to exchange money and some small talk with the bartender before bouncing right back to him and grabbing his hand to tug him towards the door. Taking his arm once they got outside and loving the way the moon washed the street with white light, the lamps outside being the only disturbances. The warm yellow light was a nice contrast. Elaine got a nice deep breath of the night air and smiled to herself. "I've started to see why you like the outdoors so much. It's beautiful." She tilted her head to look at some of the buildings they were passing at a nice stroll and wondered about the gentle nature of the meadow at night. "Have you ever been to it before at night? I know you can see the stars well..." She wanted to keep him talking, she missed the voices of people she liked who'd been gone for a long time.

Before he had time to think twice about it, Elaine was running up to pay the bill and then jumping back to drag him out the door. She really wanted to get moving it seemed because she didn’t even leave him a chance to say goodbye to their server. A shame really, she was a sweet lady. But Elaine had the wind at her heels as they walked out the door and towards the path to that hidden meadow out of the city. In truth it wasn’t too hidden, but there weren’t any easy paths getting to it so none of the ranchers never bothered to bring their cattle there to graze or plow it over for farmland. Instead, it just grew wild and free and stood as a gentle touch of life away from the stone city.
“I might have visited it once or twice. The stargazing is amazing, but there’s still a bit of a sore spot in the direction of the city. The lamps cast a glow that you can see in the darkness. Annoying, but if you turn away from it, there is a grand view to take in.” He held her arm tightly as they walked, both knowing the path and not needing to be led. It was nice though, to hold onto someone and be grounded. He had missed that feeling in the time he spent away.
“No matter what happens, what changes, the moon stays the same. It’s always up there, shifting and changing, but it’s always the moon. It almost makes me feel small to know that. All the troubles and problems I have mean nothing to the big rock up there. Its existence is somewhere else entirely.”

Elaine looked up at the moon again to study its face. It was definitely a different way of looking at it. The moon had witnessed the lives of millions before her and it would see millions after. The thought might make one feel insignificant but Elaine smiled a little. "It makes me feel...steady. It might change often but it's still the same underneath. Reminds me that I have the same stability even if I'm stressed." She gained a lot of comfort from the moon especially since it pretty much watched over her through her days. "What do other cultures think of the moon? I know we tend to just take it for face value." She let him lead idly since he had the greater idea of where to go.

Lasair glanced over at her, seeing how her eyes gazed upwards and how the moonlight reflected in them, causing a bit of a sparkle. “Some places have a really strong relationship with the moon. On nights when the moon is full or near so, they celebrate, usually for up to three days. But on nights of the new moon, something bad is destined to occur if you stay out in the night too long. The moon isn’t there to shine on dangers, so best be careful. Some places don’t pay much attention to it, simply enjoying to chance to work outside longer on the full nights. One land I traveled through would tell a story about how the moon got to be in the sky and why she would disappear from time to time. They’re all sorts of things out there. We could even make up our own story for it.” They were nearing the edges of the city and getting close to the small path that led them away into the world of nature.

Elaine listened to him with bright interest. Stepping over some high grass as they wandered further from the city. The air felt clearer out here though she figured it was just her imagination at the moment. Smiling at the idea of writing their own, "We should do that! Make some tales like the storybooks my parents sell in the shop. Moon goddesses? The dances that bring prosperity and calm nights? There's a lot of different possibilities." She smiled and loosened up on his arm to walk alone for a stretch. She'd thought about writing stories before but never had a really good inspirational moment hit her. "It would be fun!"

Lasair chuckled and followed behind her as she bounced forward, excitement in her eyes. “You know, my mother used to say I was a story teller in another life. When I was a kid I would just make up stories and tell them to anyone that listened to me. I haven’t done that in ages, but I used to enjoy it.” He caught up to Elaine and smiled at her. They should be getting close to the side path soon. Well, it wasn’t a path but it was about to be once they started tromping through it. They just needed to pass that specific tree and then turn into the grass. But until they got there, Lasair was happy to watch Elaine’s joy and even let it spread to him too. The alcohol certainly worked to loosen his muscles a bit and it made his mind at ease.

"You should start telling stories again, you have a voice everyone would want to hear." She laughed as she ran her hands over some sparse patches of tall grass. It tickled her fingers and felt kind of like feathers. Turning into the once worn path and crushing some flora as she walked through it. "You could stand on a small stage outside of the Theater and tell your tales to the people, I could even hook you up with some actors to play different parts if you like?" Elaine would definitely offer to be one of those actors just for the fun of it. It would be quite a spectacle for sure to see his charismatic person on a small stage attempting to charm the citizens into listening to a tale. She went to push a branch out of her way and felt it slip through her fingers for a good smack to the face. She flailed for a second rather ungracefully and ducked under it. "Well, that brings back memories..." She muttered glaring at the tree before smoothing some of her hair back out of her face where the tree had disturbed its somewhat tamed place. Fairly aware that the same thing had happened on their trip before. Elaine thought she was graceful but sometimes things like that would remind her she wasn't nearly as graceful as she thought at times.

“Me, working in the theater district? Oh heavens no, I’d run Edelweiss out of a business,” he answered with a cocky grin as he pushed the same branch out of his way. Sure he could work on a stage, any stage really, and enjoy his job. But was it really for him? He liked being the center of attention for a small crowds, minimum of one, but once it started getting bigger, he started to lose his confidence. It was harder to keep track of reactions the more people you added after all. Still, it was always something he could do if the need arose. He shrugged in his head and kept walking along the path Elaine forged.
He got up a bit closer to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, hoping to catch her ear. “Do you ever miss the old days? Before the war started and things started to get turned upside down every which way?”

Elaine laughed when he said he'd run Edel out of business. It was highly possible for him to do with such a handsome face and a knack for wooing people. He knew he had the advantage as well, joking or not. She turned her head to look at his hand as she raised one to lay her fingers over his for a second to acknowledge they were there. She looked back ahead to continue watching where she was going and opened her mouth to reply but closed it in a moment of hesitation. Thinking back on any time before now, before the war, back when she was just a hopeful young woman trying to find something to do in the city. The time she met Iaco came to mind, he was creepy but in a charming kind of way. A smile tugged at her lips slowly. The trouble she got into with Zona on several occasions and the fun they had. The look they'd shared when they first met Lasair and then the times she'd gone adventuring with the man behind her. Her smile grew. Then there was Keefe and the festival... the dance that she was dragged into that she enjoyed though she might not admit it openly. That first kiss and his absolutely fairytale proposal.
Elaine beamed and glanced back again, "I remember them like it was yesterday, I miss a lot of those moments as well. Just the times where friends could go out and the world wasn't out to get you for anything at all. I remember when Zona and I would go out and honestly just be looking for trouble, we went drinking once. Bar hopping." She waved her hands around a bit as she spoke in gestures that accentuated what she was saying. "And I think most of the conversation was trying to determine which bar we could actually go in to avoid getting into a fight because Zona was probably wanted in most of them. We had to stop at each one and see if she remembered if she would get thrown out or not and then attempt to waltz in. Though she did tell me that if any of the bouncers ever told us we couldn't go in she knew how to get in the back. I swear she gave me a lot of amusing stress when we went anywhere." She laughed again and peered along the path for the tree spotting it and pointing at it as she patted Lasair"s hand to get his attention, she knew it was a full moon but she still wasn't sure he'd see it that well under the slight cover of the trees.

The redhead followed after the feline, listening closely to her words as they walked further down the path. A bittersweet smile came to his lips at the mention of Zona. “That sounds like something you two would get wrapped up in.” He had to be honest; Zona was always up to trouble and couldn’t really go anywhere without it. “I swear she tried to pick a fight with anyone that looked at her sideways. It was funny sometimes. But I always appreciated how she took time to go flying. A lot of wingeds really don’t anymore.” In fact, most anders went out of their way to hide and suppress their traits. But not everyone was like that. Just you know, most of them.
He followed her up to the memorable tree, smiling as they passed it. They would be there soon, surely. Lasair fell quiet then, not sure what to speak of now. But the old memories played his mind as they went. Sometimes he really wondered if those days of the past could ever truly be relived.

Elaine thought for a moment. "Most of the time we aren't able to be what we are. Winged can't fly without the fear of being spotted. I'm glad Zona actually had such a habit." Elaine hadn't known but she and Zona had never made it a topic of conversation. Speaking to Lasair about such habits and concerns however came easily to her, though she didn't know why. He wasn't biased against any Ander so she felt she could trust him. "Being a feline can be a real drag as well. I can't ever show my hands in public or I risk getting snapped at or at the worst attacked. The whole reflective eye thing is a pain in the arse as well." She waved a hand at her face as she walked. Now to herself, she loved the reflection her eyes cast. It was a gorgeous feature and she wouldn't trade it for anything. But there was a big difference between staring in a mirror and looking another person in the eye. She hadn't quite figured out what made the trait so...ill viewed. "Generals look like they have it the easiest but I'm not one and I'm not a good person to speak on behalf of their problems." She had no clue Lasair was one, or well, she had no confirmation. She had suspicions and at the least easily ruled out feline.
That could be figured out later she thought pushing it aside as she stepped out into the open air of the meadow. The grass rolling in gentle waves as far as she could see. Memories of laying out here in the grass beside Lasair as they talked about all manners of things warmed up her mind. "It's even prettier than I remember." She murmured as the night air ruffled her hair and clothes. Standing there to just take it all in and revive more than just her memories. Here they didn't have to be closed off or careful with what they showed the world of themselves. It was a little slice of freedom.
The feline felt a smile creep across her face as she clasped her hands behind her back and straightened up a little as she looked her at Lasair. The moonlight made the color in her eyes flicker as she grinned and took a half step closer before lightly punching his arm, "Race you to the center!" She bolted off laughing as she flattened grass along the way. Older mind, younger heart.

Lasair could remember a time when Zona had gone flying with him, carrying him like his weight didn’t matter, but he saw the strain on her face. It had been a surreal feeling, being up in the air and viewing everything else far below him. He valued that memory, but knew he wouldn’t be able to remember it clearly forever. When Elaine mentioned always having to wear gloves, Lasair glanced towards her hands, suddenly aware of the coverings on her hand. She always had those on, didn’t she? So many people in the city wore gloves that he’d never thought much of it before, but it made sense, given her reflective eyes and affinity for climbing. If he had to be any other kind of ander, a feline would be his choice.
The bright moon glowing over the soft grass was a calming sight. The grass was dried out, given the cold season approaching, but still soft to the touch. He stole a glance over to Elaine, happy to have shared this place with her. But the moment was quickly gone as she ran off, throwing herself into the wind as she ran. He took up the stride after her, unable to catch up to her, but at least not falling too far behind. It felt nice to run from the city, from the old memories, and make some new ones for a change.
When they finally arrived, he sat on the ground panting, a goofy smile on his face. He looked to her with happiness. “You know, before you ran off I was going to say that you’re even prettied than I remembered. But then you had to bolt away and make me chance after you. I’ll have you know that I don’t chase many people as long as I’ve chased you.” He winked at her, the playful smile still on his face. It was good to have the company again.

The center of the field arrived just sooner than she believed she wanted it to. Slowing to a stop as she turned to wait a few seconds for Lasair to catch up and she wasn't waiting long. She should invite him to start walking or running with her, simple laps around the blocks or the town. It might be a good way to spend more time together? And it gave them something simple to do. She would ask later because as soon as he got into the same spot that she was in he sat himself down and proceeded to tease her in such a way it made her blush and laugh. The alcohol from earlier fueling her easily reddened face. "I'm flattered, honestly." She said sitting down beside him in the grass and breaking off a stem in her hand so she could play with it. Running the dry, feathered tip through her fingers. "You might be chasing for a while if you don't learn to keep up with me. Can't catch me if you never get close enough." She giggled and glanced over at him poking his cheek with her little stem of grass.

He lifted his hand to swat the grass away, blowing air out his nose for emphasis. He was tempted to grab a blade and counter her with it, but the desire fled the moment he felt it, so he decided against it. Instead, he got a fun little idea in his head. He started by readjusting the way he sat, so that he had one knee sticking up and the weight on that one foot. Before Elaine could react or move away, he pounced on her, throwing them both into the grass as he held onto her for the moment, a smile on his face. “How’s this for close enough?” he asked, his face landing rather close to hers. He hoped she didn’t notice the blush that rose in his, but he kept talking despite it. “I might not be able to always keep up, but I have you here right now don’t I?” He refused to budge until she answered him, at which point, he would release her and roll into the grass. But until then, he wasn’t going to budge.
Truth be told, he did wish to be closer to her, but felt as though he couldn’t. His guild was his residence, and she couldn’t exactly come visit. That’s why he wished she could join him, she was an ander after all. But did she have the same conviction as he and his members did? The answer was probably no, and that saddened him to a degree. Still, he did wish it were possible. Lasair felt like his guild got in the way of his friendships and had caused many of them to fade, especially recently. Perhaps he could still manage to make time for Elaine. She was such fun, after all.
