Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Well, for a starter, we now know that thing hates fire." Edelweiss pondered. "The easiest solution to get rid of it would be to set it ablaze... The hard part is how to seize it first, and not burn down everything else in the process."
She took a deep breath. "Or we could use the flames as a diversion or shiel. Keep it away from us while we get out." Still, if they choose that last course of action, despite safer for themselves it would also mean that shadow beast would remain alive and continue haunting the place, and soon or later someone else would fall pray to those strings. This was not a comforting thought.

"...Convenient..." Amon stated, raising an eyebrow. "I say we continue to explore; on the way, see if we can find some alcohol and some more cloth," he continued, going back to where the broken remains of the chair lay and picking up the remains of the legs.
"We can use the alcohol to make the cloth burn easier...you know, make some torches," he suggested, tossing a leg to Edel. "If nothing else, we can use them keep that thing at bay while we think of a way to get it."
"Let's go," he said, relighting the machine and leading the way out of the room.

Lasair continued to hold the platter out, the fire alive within it, and only nodded to the others while he followed behind them. “I think we can handle this thing. We just need to be smart. And making a plan wouldn’t hurt,” he added, looking around for anything he could add to his platter. If only there was a nice table he could lay it on, and if only the messy fire were actually a turkey. Such thoughts were dismissed, however.

"Agreed..." Edelweiss sighed, and then almost imediately repented the action because the amount of dust around made her feel like sneezing. It was a good course of action to look around for flammable things though. "Any ideas on what this building used to be before being turned into 'haunted' ruins?"

"An apartment complex," Amon responded. "Apparently in the past, this section of the district was just as alive and bustling as the main part, though as time went on, it slowly became a little more desolate, reaching its breaking point during the Civil War. I've been doing my best to reclaim some sections, but it's been rather...slow," he explained.
As they passed another room, something caught his attention. He quickly turned, readying his gun, only to be met with silence.
"Dratted shadows," he muttered, slowly making his way into the room. The layout was somewhat similar, though with less furniture; seemed like looters had taken their pick. There seemed to be a lot more spiders, as there was a number of cobwebs in the corners and hanging from the ceiling. It also felt...darker for some reason. All of a sudden, the room gradually became illuminated. Amon jerked his head up, only to be met with the light of the moon; it seems that they had entered a room with fairly large holes in the ceiling, with one hole going all the way to the roof.
"...Be careful everyone..." he whispered, a bad feeling forming in his gut as he made his way through the room.

“I can see that. If you look past all the age and broken parts, the place actually looks kind of nice. Homey.” He walked along, picking up flammable bits as they went. Pieces of wall paper, fabric from clothes or furniture or somewhere in between, and anything else he could find. The fire needed to live, and that was his task now.
The room with the moonlight was pretty, still a bit spooky, but it was oddly nice. “Careful goes without saying at this point,” he remarked, staring up at the moon as the fire made shadows dance on his face.

"Hmm indeed, that makes sense..." She agreed to them both at their comments about the building. The moon seen above their heads was a nice touch too; extra light, although she could be sure the hole in the ceiling was not part of the place's original design. Whenever she spotted anything that could catch fire and Lasair didn't pick up, she picked it up herself and used it to feed their little 'main dish' of flames on a tray, although what she was looking more intently for was some sort of other chair or table, or anything else with woden legs or a plank that could be made into a torch. And hoped there was only one of that shadow beast around, instead of the apartment complex being now a nest of those creatures. "And also keep track where we're going. Getting separated from each other would make it ten times harder."
"Hah," Amon laughed. "This place has more holes than swiss cheese and isn't that big...I'm sure getting lost is not our biggest prob-" he started, turning to face Edel and Lasair, when he stopped.
It was bright in this room.
Too bright.
And although the building was indeed full of holes, there was no wind, so it was somewhat strange to see some cobweb strands move...maybe it was static, the fire, or Lasair simply moving past-
Those weren't cobwebs.
"WATCH IT!!!" Amon shouted, a moment too late as strings descended upon Lasair, eager to get their original prey once more.

He was walking on normally, watching carefully for signs of the beastie. But it seemed he wasn’t watching carefully enough, as the beast grabbed hold of him just as Amon shouted. The platter of fire fell from his hands, scattering the ashes and bits of burning materials on the floor. A couple embers even landed on an old rug, which looked rather flammable…
That was beside the point, however, as Lasair attempted to struggle free from the beast. It was ready for him this time, however, and his mental efforts were thwarted with ease. His vision blurred severely as he felt his limbs go limp. In his brain were images of the past, sent there to distract him while the puppet master got to test out its new toy.

No nice things could last long in this place. And apparently, Lasair was one of them. The fire tray falling to the floor along its contents spilling gave Edelweiss a very good measure of how 'with them' the redhead man was at the moment - which was 'nope'. Hot embers on a flammable rug ahead started another series of minor flames, so at least their fire source wasn't extinguished, but they'd still have to be careful to not let it go out of control.
And also about Lasair.
Edelweiss unconsciously took a step back and tugged Amon along by his sleeve. "Don't touch him." She wasn't sure what kind of spells Lasair had, besides Projection and Pyromancy. Those two, they could deal with if kept a small distance. But if the ginger man had any contact-delivered magic... like Toxins... touching him while he's under control of a shadow beast pupetter would be a terrible idea.

"Yeah..." Amon replied, readying his arm weapon. He honestly wasn't sure what was worse at the moment: the implications that Lasair may have some of the more dangerous, close-range spells, or the fact that there was a strong potential of them being caught in a blazing inferno.
His first instinct was to put out the embers; he didn't want to risk adding more burn scars to his personal collection. However, if they take out the thing controlling Lasair, they wouldn't need to worry too much about the fire...
Either way they were screwed, so choosing to take out the less familiar of the two evils, he raised his gun arm, aiming for beast floating above Lasair, getting ready to fire...

Lasair’s mind was still trapped in the abyss the shadow beast built for him, forcing his mind to run in circles and ignore reality. Which left the beast to use his body for whatever it pleased. Including forcing him to cast more magic, which his body usually wouldn’t allow, but the beast used its own magical power to fuel the spells.
It began by casting Kinetics, double jumping up and grabbing onto the ceiling, perching on the edge of the hole to escape the fire. Then it summoned Deceit magic, intensifying the spell because of its own proficiently with the school of magic. It was a simple message, one that the other two should easily agree with. Lasair’s voice came out as a hoarse twisted tone instead of his own to cast the magic. “Put out the fire! Fire bad! Make it go away! NOW!” He even hissed slightly at the end of it. The spells were cast, and now Lasair was out of reach from the other two.

That thing... could make the puppetered people talk? There was still awareness of the wisp of flames in the room - the dying embers of the tray contents and the starting fire on the rug ahead - but the redhead woman's gaze had been locked on Lasair since the shadow beast made him double jump to the ceiling, following the movements to not lose sight of him or the Puppet Meister. Now he was up there, talking like someone who caught a horrible flu and hissing. And then there was that sudden urge that assaulted her, to get rid of that soft flicker of bright flame that stuck into her vision.
Why was that? She had to put it down. How? It made no sense. But she had to. What was Amon doing, she couldn't see him right now. But she had to put that off now. Hope he can catch up with her.
Edelweiss pretty much copied what mind-controled Lasair did before and charged a single cast of Kinetics, double-jumping after him. And then barely a second after her feet reached a firm perch the Deceit cast finally wore off, and she blinked again looking at the masked little light and the ginger man, wondering what in heaven's name had possessed her to climb up there without any plan just out of the single urge to somehow shave Lasair's head blow that candle off.
Amon was about to fire when the Puppet Meister suddenly made Lasair pretty much fly straight into the air, entering the hole in the ceiling. He barely had time to react, and by the time he readjusted his aim, his mechanical arm fell limp.
"Oh for the love of...I just got this back!" he growled. This was going to be more annoying than he thought...so this thing can use its host's spells...
Unfortunately, any further thoughts were pushed aside as Edel suddenly rushed up to Lasair; at the same time, a strong urge to put out the flames on the ground overcame him as the spell took hold.
"I was going to do that anyways," he thought with a smile, focusing on stamping out the stray embers on the ground while fighting off the urge to put out the larger flame on the tray. He had been hit with one too many Deceit spells to know that if his arm stopped working accompanied with strange thoughts, something was wrong, even if he didn't know what it was; still, that thing was more clever than expected...
He stamped out the last of the embers, and was beginning to fight off the final urge to take out their one way of killing the beast when the spell ended. He shook his head, trying to clear his mind and will his arm to work. He could catch up to them in a bit; Edel could handle herself.
Still, that didn't stop him from worrying and trying to hasten his recovery rate...

The shadow beast scurried backwards when Edel jumped up after him. No! That wasn’t the goal! But maybe it wasn’t that bad. She was up here now, right by him. He grinned a devilish grin as Edel as he readied more magic. Amon was still on the floor behind, excluding him from this exchange.
This time there were no twisted words to go along with the magic, instead it was a simple wave of energy. Kinetics towards the other ginger, hoping to slow her down and limit her movement, and while that cast was sent off, another was prepared in himself. Following directly in the wake of that first spell, Lasair lunged at Edelweiss, grabbing her arms and pushing her over the edge and tumbling down with her from the force.
But then he angled his feet down and pushed off of her, using the magic to make sure he had that extra boost to return to his ledge. Down she was thrusted, with the remaining ball of fire as the intended target for her landing. And as she fell, the possessed ander could safely return to his ledge.
