Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

No traces? There was no person who went around a floor covered in dirt without leaving footprints, unless they used the furniture for support (which would leave even more visible 'clean' marks in the things around), walked on some sort of tightrope previously placed (which was unlikely), flew or floated themselves around. And even with the possibility of there being someone who can use a high tier of Telikinesis she never heard of... "... Are you 100% sure the fellow we're looking for is human? Or that we're in the right building..." Edeweiss asked, glancing at their own trail like Lasair was doing, before turning her attention to the redhead man. "None from me, go ahead."
"Hey, I trust my machines. As for whether it's human or not..." Amon replied. "...let's just say I'd rather be wrong about the building at that point..."
With that, he led the way into the first set of rooms, keeping his ears and eye open for any signs of movement.
For the most part, these set of rooms were relatively in good shape, though some were in disarray, parts of the ceilings were loose or had a few holes. Since it is at the ground level, there wasn't a lot of obvious items of value (thank you looters), but one could potentially find overlooked treasures. Regardless, this might be one of the more stable floors...just be sure to watch your head.

They expected someone to be in this building? Well, most certainly not given the amount of dust here. Instead of inquiring, however, he kept his mouth closed and continued forward, looking through the rooms as Amon did. Nothing obvious stood out. A sofa was discarded at the far end of the room, behind a pile of rubble. Something resembling a desk was buried under another part. And other furniture type things were scattered to and fro.
Shrugging, Lasair turned towards the next room and walked inside. This one seemed to be a bit darker, restraining vision. Yet another time he wished a feline ander were present.

"Well, no human walks around without leaving footprints, unless they have some rope apparatus I can't really picture being used here." She sighed, following Lasair's lead. "So if there's anything alive here... lets hope it's a timid Ander with a lot of talent for Telekinesis."

“Who ever said we were after a human? I can think of plenty of things that don’t leave tracks.” He mumbled that second part as he replied to Edelweiss before turning to look for what Amon was looking at.
A blueish glow, not the kind given off by ander eyes. This was something brighter, more eerie. Lasair took a step towards it, squinting his eyes to try and get a better look. Then he decided better of it and took several steps back.
“Guys. I don’t think we should be here.” His tone had changed out of the light-hearted one he usually held to something more serious. Whatever was going on here, it wasn’t a fight Lasair wanted to get in.

"He said it." Edelweiss gestured to Amon along that whisper to them both. "Technically we should be looking for one of his patrons who started acting strange. Though indeed, I have to agree with that second part." Yes, plenty of non-human things could not leave tracks. Very few of them were actually pleasant.
There was a faint blue glow ahead, and definitely not the natural type from Feline eyes. Some spells might glow depending on the caster, that far Edelweiss could remember, like Danny using Necromancy or Caitlin casting Speed, but that seemed... too permanent to be magic. And too hazy to be a lamp... like it flickered slightly? But then there was the question, if it's not human, and it's not Ander, what was that thing they were stalking? Amon stopped walking and started saying something but didn't finish, and Lasair said something about how they shouldn't be there. "Shhh." She shushed with a finger in front of her mouth. What is the thing heard them? Of course they shouldn't be there, no matter what that light was, they were invading property that wasn't theirs and that probably contained a considerable amount of critters like rats and roaches, she just was now starting to consider there might be something else even less inviting as well.

"Oh, so now he's cautious," Amon thought, rolling his eye. At Edel's insistence, he nodded, readied his arm, and quietly led the way.
The room that they were heading towards was pretty much the same as the last one, except much more in disarray, with large holes in the walls and ceiling.
And, of course, the obvious glowing.
It still wasn't as well lit as the previous room, but with night already upon them, any light source was amplified. Said light source seemed to come from the ceiling, emanating from a single candle. Should the group look up, they would see that the candle was floating on the second floor...
...With the body of the man they were following floating slightly below it, hanging like a limp puppet.

Lasair held his ground at first, not wanting to approach the glow. But the others waltzed forward. It seemed he would have too as well, if only to not be left behind. As he came to the doorway, he looked up at the body hanging there, as well as the candle hanging above that. It reminded him of something he’d seen in a book, but he couldn’t place what exactly it was.
His palms got sweaty as he felt his hair stand up. This wasn’t good. Were the other two still calm? They really shouldn’t be. The MI member could feel the adrenalin seeping into his body. But for the moment, he held still. Waiting. Waiting to see what would happen next. Fight or flight?

"Alright, now this is creepy." Edelweiss looked up at the source of light above them, the faint flickering of a blue candle, and the man hanging from strings. Was he dead or unconscious? Or an actual puppet dressed as human? Creepy was a very accurate word to describe this scene indeed, but it seemed like they found whom they had been trying to find. The main issue was... what now?

"Sonofa-" Amon swore, bringing his arm-gun up, aiming for the candle. Before he could take the shot though, the candle quickly moved out of sight, dragging the man's body through the air.
"Drat it!" he growled, leaving the room and heading towards the stairs. "At least we know how there were no footprints. The good news is that we found our culprit."
"Bad news is that it's a particularly nasty shadow beast."

“I knew we shouldn’t have confronted it,” Lasair said more to himself than the others as he leapt to the side. He didn’t know this kind of shadow beast well, but he did remember seeing it in the book of beasts once or twice. Sadly, he couldn’t remember the best way to deal with it. This would be a difficult. And probably painful.
Glancing at the others, he brought the feeling of magic to his core, getting it ready for use. It seemed they would have to fight it not, if only to rescue the man. Or they could just leave him here and abandon the place. “Try not to hurt the person. He might still be alive,” he called after them and walked towards the door and then looked around for the next best area to go.

Edelweiss glanced at Lasair, who seemed to have completely recinded his earlier remarks that horror stories don’t happen in real life and this was just an old building. It would be a little bit amusing if the situation now wasn't outright creepy, but if there is one thing he is right about is the hanging man could still be alive. Which meant... "So this suddenly became a rescue task..."
With how poor illumination around was, it was hard to tell anything apart. And since it would be dusk in a few minutes, the tendency is things would only get darker and darker. "This might sound very stupid, but: before going after that thing lets set something on fire. We need light to move well, it's getting late, and running around in a pitch black building where there are shadow beasts is suicidal." And while she's aware the extra light source might attract the creature's attention, not being able to tell where each other are or even see their own hands would be way, way worse.

Amon paused and turned to Edel, the darkness hiding a very neutral expression.
"...Edel...I get what you're saying, but with the state this building is in, there is a high chance that we could be engulfed-" he started.
He paused, followed up with a facepalm from his left arm.
"Of course!" he exclaimed, reaching into his pouch and a moment later, made some clicking noises with his right arm.
"Watch your eyes," he warned, and a second later, snapped his fingers. Instantly, light from a small, oddly shaped robot (somewhere between a spider and a flashlight) bathe the area in a soft orange glow.
"Nearly forgot about this little guy," he said as the machine rested on his shoulder. "This should help us out...in the meantime, I would advise we hold off lighting things on fire...unless it's an emergency..." he continued as he made his way to the stairs. He paused, turning to face Edel and Lasair. "Ready?"
---
The upstairs was of a similar layout as the downstairs, but in much more disarray; one needed to be careful not to fall or get a foot caught in some of the holes in the floor. While much more stable than the higher floors, it was still a valid concern.
In one of the more cleaner (albeit darker) rooms, the group would find the body of the man they were looking for, slumped in a chair, a candle innocently resting on an nearby dresser.

Lasair smiled as Amon turned on the light source. Robots were cool and did come in handy. Just not for the magical types. Wanting to get moving, he went up the stairs first and looked around, using the trace amounts of light from Amon's flashlight for illumination. It wasn't completely dark up here, but they would still want to be careful. "I'm thinking we go this way," he said to the others as they ascended the stairs. He gestured to the hallway that was in the same direction of the room they had just been in. Hopefully they could find the glowing that way.
