Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

“You seem surprised,” he replied, not sure if she would ask him for more information or not. He didn’t mind sharing, so long as she didn’t ask for anyone’s name. Lasair was well aware that she was good friends with Zona, and if he mentioned her, that might change her opinion. Staring at a cloud, he wondering how long he’d be here before the sky darkened and he headed back to the city.

Elaine grinned. "Why wouldn't I be? With you trying to flirt the pants off of everyone you meet." She teased him. She didn't expect him to take any of her taunts or remarks seriously. She hoped they were on that kind of friendship level at least. "I was just curious. Thinking perhaps you had met someone on your travels." You meet all kinds of people while traveling. Hard, to her, it would seem not to get attached at some point. Keefe possibly being an example. A startling thought crossed her mind. What if he didn't find his sister here? What then? Reaching up she rubbed the heel of her hands over her eyes and forced the idea away. When she reopened her eyes everything was slightly hazy.

He grinned at her comment, seeing her point. Many people traveled with the goal of settling down in a new place, but that hadn’t been the case with him. “I always planned on coming home, so I guess that stopped me from being too infatuated with the ladies I met,” he continued to grin, a bit more foxily now. “But now that I’m back…that excuse doesn’t work anymore.” He hadn’t realized it before, but the way he flirted did change now that he was back in the city. Maybe that wasn’t such a good thing, given the trouble he was getting himself into now.

"I see." She giggled. "Infatuated with the ladies, neat way of putting that." She pulled her arms up behind her head. Then that way of laying became slightly uncomfortable. So Elaine rolled over onto her stomach and rested her chin on her folded arms. "What's it like? The other cities and islands?" She watched a small beetle migrate across the flattened grass where they had been sitting. She wondered if he had learned any storied while he was gone. Her inner child she guessed peeking out.

Lasair glanced at Elaine as she flipped over, about to comment on her phrase when a question hit the air. Looking up at the sky, he pictured each of the places as he mentioned it next.“They’re all different. Each and every one of them. There’s towns who specialize in fishing, or hunting, or mining, or weaving. There are towns that have so few people living in them that I met everyone in an afternoon. Some places have buildings that are large, others with buildings that are small. Sometimes the people are friendly, sometimes they chase you off with a shotgun. If you can imagine the place, it’s probably out there, somewhere.” He reached up to swat a bug away from his face when he remembered that he had two piercings on his face. Everyone noticed them but no one ever asked for some reason. “I got my piercings while I was traveling too,” he added.

Elaine's imagination was having a field day. Trying to guess what the people in each town looked like. Couldn't be too much different then them right? Just with different attributes. She turned to look at him when he mentioned the piercings. She hadn't ever thought about where they could have come from. "Really? That's odd. In a good way!" She said the last part rather quickly. Since he pointed them out she couldn't help but almost stare. She was trying to memorize what they looked like. Not many people had them. "Who gave them to you? What town? What were they like?" Elaine pulled herself up from her spot and placed her elbows on her half-bent knees. Propping her chin up on one had to look at him. She wanted to know everything. But of course everything could take the lifetime she had plus many, many others. She would have to settle for what she could get her hands on.

Stretching his arms out, he took a deep breath, remembering the story as he did so. “The first one was the ring.” He reached up to touch it as he spoke. “I got it right after leaving, in the first or second town outside the city. See, I had some money set aside for emergency, if I had to get home suddenly. But I quickly realized that between pickpockets and drunken fun, that holding onto it might not be the best option. So I use all the money to buy some gold, had a smith form it into this ring, and then got it pierced. If I ever need the money, I can sell the ring and there it is. Piercings are uncommon enough to were, even when you’re robbed in your sleep, they leave those alone.” He paused in his story to see if Elaine had any questions or comments.

Impressive logic. She studied the little gold ring casually. "That was very smart. If I ever go traveling I'll be sure to keep it in mind." She grinned. The girl sniffed lightly at the sudden faint urge to sneeze. "What about the other one?" She asked trying to force the tickling sensation away. She ended up holding her fingers under her nose and briefly looking away. The feeling faded after a moment. And she turned back to listen.

“This one,” he began, reaching up to wiggle the sapphire stud as he had the ring. “Was somewhere in the midst of my traveling. At some point I passed through a small mining town, they specialized in the mining of sapphire and their most demanded type of it was a deep blue, one that rivaled the blueness of other stones. If you didn’t know, sapphire can come in a range of colors; green, violet, teal, but the blue ones are what everyone loves.” He paused here, stretching out his legs and yawning a little.
“Anyway, I walked into the town without a penny on me. After chatting with the guy in charge, he agreed to let me have a room and food if I worked in the mines a bit. If I could find a pocket, he’d even pay me some cash for the road.” He paused, realizing that Elaine might not know what a pocket was; not everyone grew up in a house where gems were the talk of everything. “A pocket is, well, a pocket of space that has a whole bunch of gems in it, just waiting to be broken into. During the couple weeks that I was working there, the town ran into a shortage of their famous deep blue gems. The reserves had run out and no one was finding any pockets of it, just the green sapphire, which was the least popular kind. When I went in to work my shift the next day, I found a rock that had a good sapphire imbedded in it. And with a little more digging I managed to find a pocket of the blue ones.”
He grinned, mostly to himself. That had been a really fun day in his memory. But then he realized the story wasn’t finished yet. “That first rock I found, I had the sapphire taken out of that and polished up by the local jeweler. When he finished I had it set in a piercing and here it is.” He turned to Elaine, grinning. Sapphire was probably his favorite gemstome, not that he thought about it. Just because of that memory.

Elaine listened absolutely drawn in. She had seen some sapphires in her life, her mother might have had some earrings. He yawned. Surely this wasn't boring. "You worked in a mine." She looked him over. He didn't exactly look like the mining type regardless. 'Pockets?' Ooooooh, she nodded at his explanation. She looked at the little blue gem. Quite a story behind one small stone. "Why are the other colors not as popular? If they are all special gems what makes one worth more than the other?" She pondered this. She knew part of it probably had to do with personal preference of the people but if they are all sapphires what makes them so different by color?
Post by Lasair Landevier Lupen on Jun 26, 2015 21:49:58 GMT
“It’s all supply and demand,” he answered simply. “Not a lot of places have sapphires of such a deep blue color. So when someplace does, it becomes popular. Everyone wants one. The greens and purples aren’t so rare, so they’re easier to get. The same goes for any type of product. The harder it is to find, the less people that can have it. If everyone can have something, it losses value.” Supply and demand was something a little difficult to explain, but maybe it would make sense to her. He flopped backwards, closing his eyes as he landed. They should probably leave the field soon. But he so liked it here.

"Ah." Elaine looked up at the sky. Most of what he said made sense. Although the fact that people acted the way they did was still a mystery. Lasair laid back down, it looked a little funny. Elaine smiled. She stayed propped up on her knees. Her thoughts drifting around from one unrelated thing to another. It would be dark in a while. She yawned without her personal approval.

At the sound of Elaine’s yawn, Lasair sat back up, and then stood up, offering a hand down to her. “We should head back. You can even lead; to make sure you know the way. I’ll make sure we don’t take any wrong turns.” He said that last part with a wink, unable to help himself from teasing her.

She took his hand and pulled herself up. "Sure thing." She gladly accepted the challenge of getting them back. It would wake her up. She smirked at his wink. There's the unfailing flirtatious nature she was looking for. "Race you back to the tree line if you like? Should I give you a head start?" She teased him back. Bracing herself for another run if he agreed.

“Sure let’s go!” He said with a grin, taking off a moment later. It was easy to see which direction they had come from since the grass was still flattened from their last run here.
