Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Amon let out a small sigh, a tad more nervous than usual. He had been striving to try to improve relations with Edel, and even though they seem to be getting better, he couldn't help but feel like they still needed to clear things up.
Or maybe it was just his own guilt acting up again.
Letting loose one last sigh and taking a deep breath to calm himself back to normal, he knocked on Edel's door, doing his best to balance two boxes, one bigger than the other, on his other hand.

Edelweiss turned away from the window and the soft snowfall outside and climbed down the stool when she heard the knocking on the front door, and looked for somewhere to set the tissue aside (but she failed and just ended walking with it in hands still) while going to attend to it. Jasper had already left a short while ago, and in lack of any iminent guild work demanding to be done she figured she could do some cleaning in her apartment. It wasn't really dirty, but things were starting to look disorganized and the windows needed washing. A downside of living alone in such a big place, having to clean it on her own as well, but she figured it could be worse. It was home still.
She definitely didn't expect Amon standing outside precariously balancing boxes though. The sight made her blink. "...Morning...? Do you need help?" Or something else? She didn't have any more steamwork armor pieces to sell, he should know that. But she couldn't figure any other reason why he was there. She could only hope it wasn't more bad news. Please no more bad news.

"Just to get these off my hands..." Amon replied with a wry smile, handing Edel the top (wrapped) box and opening the second box, revealing a dozen doughnuts.
"Happy Birthday~"

"....Ah." Right, birthdays were a thing, she had completely forgot. Might need to send Wallace a note asking him to only bother with coming take pictures another day. But that explained what Amon came for at least (along with what he was carrying). "Thanks."
She took the wrapped box and took a step back so that he could walk in, then re-closed the door behind them. "Sorry for the mess, I had just started cleaning."
Though she couldn't help but let out a silent sigh after he passed, as her gaze had zeroed in on the doughnuts. The intention was appreciated and those could go on the table along the box from Alma, she supposed... but at the moment she felt as much enthusiasm for the sweets as Abe probably would.

"...It's fine..." Amon replied, giving Edel a kiss on the forehead as he passed her, setting the doughnuts on the table.
"...Are you okay...?" he asked, concerned at her lack of enthusiasm.

Edelweiss found herself distracted about the second box for a couple seconds, pondering if she should leave it in her room for later or just open it already, but the question brought her mind back to reality. "Not really." But honestly, there was no news in there. At least being within the walls of her own home allowed her to not have to constantly smile like a mannequin independing or her mood or have to be vague about questions lest she'd be worrying a lot of people who had it visibly worse than her.
"But it's the same as always, I'm getting used to it already." Even if she weren't, there wouldn't be much difference, would it? She found a minor solace in the repetition by now. Like this was just yet another day - and it was. It would always end at some point. "Want a coffee or tea or...?"

"It's not that easy to explain. I can try, but don't blame me if it sounds stupid." She took a deep breath, leaving the second box on the table as well before moving to sit down.
"There are some days when it's fine, and it feels like everything is going to be alright, but then in most it's hard to leave bed in the morning. Waking up is scary. I'm just so tired of everything all the time, everywhere, and I don't even know what's wrong or how to change it." Sigh. "It doesn't help either that I seem to be complaining of things more than I can recall." No one deserved having to deal with constant whining, be it hers or anyone else's. Last time she could remember having sat down to talk, he had mentioned her lashing out at him three times, and herself could only think of having complained of (different) things twice. That was never a good sign. Ever. How much else important was she overlooking or outright forgetting?

"It's not stupid," Amon quickly replied. "If anything, it could be cathartic..." he added before silently listening to Edel, sitting down next to her and absently stroking the hand he held with his thumb.
"...I'm sorry you feel that way...though perfectly understandable," he replied, doing his best to offer support.
"...Would any of this happen to deal with us? I know we tried to clear the air, but the last time we tried, a certain someone decided he wanted to clear the air for us..." he Said after careful consideration. He had hoped they moved on.

"...." She pondered on the question for a couple seconds. "...In part, I guess. Though there's also war stress on top of it." She could remember feeling that way or close to it before, very vaguely, but the last time - back when she was still in her teen years - the ones who managed to deal with it better were her grandparents, and they were long gone by now.
She lowered her gaze to look at her own hand nested into his, and tightened her hold slightly. "I'm just a mess right now. There are things that's being hard to talk about that... didn't use to be hard before." Even if they were important things, or maybe because they were important things - some were hard to put into words, others had answers too frightening and crushing to ask about. "Can I ask a question?"
"I asked you to not leave, more than once, but never really asked if you really wanted to stay. I... should have asked that first."
Amon squeezed his own hand as he listened to Edel, his lips in a thin line, all too tempted to apologize, but refrained from doing so.
But upon hearing that question, he couldn't help but make smile.
"Of course," he said, giving her a kiss on the forehead. "But only if you'll let me."

Edelweiss felt her shoulders practically sag in relief as a little faint smile formed on her lips. "You know my answer already."
Though soon her mind shot another reminder at her that almost made her attempt to get absorbed by the couch cushions while reclining against them - in a mix of embarrassment and frustration at what she was about to mention. "...But you might have to brace yourself for one more annoyance besides my guild's children too. My mother is seething like a kettle (for a whole different reason than them)."

Amon couldn't help but give a small smile of relief himself, though that quickly turned into a small groan as he leaned into the couch some more.
"...Okay...it's fine..." he sighed. He had a funny feeling he knew exactly why Rose was mad. "We'll need to coordinate a time, but I'll talk to her..."
"...Feeling somewhat better at least..?" he asked, turning his attention back to Edel. "...Anything else you want to talk about...?"
Best to get things off her chest rather keep it all bottled in...

Considering Edelweiss herself also felt quite frustrated (in an understatement here) during the last talk she had with her mother, she couldn't find it in her to blame Amon for literally groaning at that prospect now. That wasn't going to be a really pleasant future chat, that much was obvious, but there was nothing that could be done about it. Sigh.
"Well..." Now that the bulk of things had been talked of, the redhead could focus on other lighter topics. Starting with that one that made her lean in slightly closer, a purely bewildered squinty-eyed look on her face as she reached a hand to brush his bangs aside and look at him better. "What" on earth "happened to your hair?"
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
"...I...cut it...?" he replied, not at all displeased by her closeness but slightly taken aback by the question and sudden shift in tone. "...I mean...it was a long time coming to be honest..." he explained. "I mean...I work around machines all day...I'm mostly surprised I haven't caught my hair in something yet. Best to prevent something from happening in the future. Besides, it made for some great fake evidence on that charred body double for extra insurance...sorry about that ..." he winced a little at bringing up the bad memory.
"In any event," he continued. "While the short hair was so that it didn't get tangled in the gears (and it's easier to manage), the long bangs were initially to block Deceit. Evidently that isn't the case (according to your manuscript), so I mostly kept it so that I can hide my emotions better in front of irate customers." he concluded with a wry grin.
