He listened to the wind, temptation to add his own gust to the symphony playing on his mind. His thoughts had began to clear. Well, half clear. At the forefront he tasked himself with listening while his eyes remained closed; listening while also feeling the currents of magic within his own body. But if that concentration wavered ever so slightly, the thoughts hiding in back would attempt to barge through the door. How could you? Why can’t you give him an answer? Why did you do that? Will you go back? How can you go back? Over and over, again and again, not even pausing to let him try and form an answer to them.
No, listening to the wind was much nicer. At least, it was until he faintly began to hear footsteps behind him. He couldn’t tell who they belonged to, but they didn’t sound guarded or cautious like a soldier’s would be, nor hurried like he would expect Sayvahn’s to be. And beyond the footsteps, there was the sound of heavy breathing. The mystery person had recently exerted themselves. Lasair tensed up ever so slightly, magic pooling at his fingertips should he had need of it. But he didn’t turn to look, no, he didn’t want to open his eyes right now. He simply waited as they approached, guarded for any sounds to change in their movement.
But then they stopped and, after a bit more panting, uttered a single syllable. And in doing so, they revealed their identity to be none other than a fellow guild leader herself.
“Why are you here?” he asked, not turning towards her, nor moving at all past relaxing slightly. His voice came across as a little harsher than he intended it to be, but no matter. He had a right to question her. This was supposed to be a place he could go to for solace, yet now the knowledge of its whereabouts had spread to yet another person. Perhaps this wouldn’t be where he ran to next time.
