Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Trial thread for Howl Reed . Tyrell O'Callaghan and Emelo and Leo Halvorsen are invited to help with Howl's trial, but otherwise the thread is open to all MI members. Trial takes place before the thread titled Resounding Silence. The stars were shining overhead tonight. And despite being slightly obscured by the smog, they were still pretty to look at; the trained eye could even make out some constellations. The moon was also out and shining even brighter than the stars; Lasair couldn’t help but bask in it for this short time. He stood outside of the MI HQ, head tilted up at the sky while his mask hung lazily on his shoulders. It really wasn’t needed at this mission, given their starting location, but it was required nonetheless.
He had come early, of course, for he was the one in charge of it now. It was an odd feeling, knowing that Danny was gone, but it was something he would need to deal with. The late leader had left a large pair of shoes to fill, after all. Sighing, he reached back and pulled the hood over his head, allowing the mask to rest on his face. The others should be arriving soon. A few will know the details of the mission ahead of time, but as for Howl, well, he was simply told to come at this time and to be prepared for anything.
This time Howl was prepared. Before he left he made sure he had everything packed in his bag; his mask, an apple, a needle, a small cloth, and some scissors. He had been told to prepare after all. Howl grabbed his staff and walked out the door. Looking up at the sky Howl could tell that he was right on time, maybe even a bit early. Trying to distract himself Howl though of his mask that he had made. He had thought about his mask for a long time and couldn't decide what to do. In the end all he did was take a simple oval mask and wrap it in some white gauze leaving open spaces for the eyes. He had lightly covered the mouth hole with the gauze so it still looked covered but he could breath from it easily. (Howl had in essence created a very simple mummy mask)
Now almost arriving to the HQ the butterflies in his stomach we very active. Walking up the steps he saw Lasair and made a weak wave to him using his staff. "H-Hello..." Howl said nervously "Am I early.... Or the o-only one?"

So the kid was still nervous, that was alright. Lasair smiled to him from under his mask and shook his head. “You’re just early. I’m expecting at least three more to show up, provided they didn’t get stopped by the curfew on the way here.” He motioned for the nervous mummy to come closer before continuing. “Your mission is going to be a little dangerous, but I think you can handle it. I’m sending some people in with you as back up, but they’re only to help if you really need it. Otherwise, you’ll be on your own to complete the objective.”
After he was finished speaking, Lasair again looked to the sky, but this time it was almost as if he were searching for something; a pair of wings perhaps. He did need the other members to arrive before they could continue the task at hand.

The curfew never stopped Tyrell from finding his way out at night to fly but this time as his massive wings beat against the air it wasn't for pleasure. On his face he wore a grisly mask made to look like a bat screaming. Black feathers glistened green and purple in the moonlight every time he cut through a cloud moments before entering another. He'd been flying perhaps an hour before arriving to his destination and when he did he swooped down low enough to find the two figures waiting. Rather than joining them on the ground, the large man perched himself on a low hanging branch of a nearby tree. On his person he possessed little: a filled water skin, his clawed gauntlets, and his curved blades at his hips.
Howl watched as Lasair looked up at the sky. Howl tried to follow his gaze to where he was looking. Not finding anything in the sky he said "I-Its pretty... We don't get many nights like this." Trying to calm down he sat down and watched the forest and sky in front of him. Waiting was the absolute worst for him, he didn't know why it made him so nervous but he felt like his stomach was eating itself. Looking the forest for anything to distract himself he noticed some birds fly away. Thats strange. "U-Ummm... What was that?" Howl said pointing at the tree.

"E ya know what time it is right?" Leo questioned as he laid sprawled out across the couch, with his black and white designed mask next to him, along with a few buttons on his shirt undone.
"Yes, yes. I know, I know..." Emelo said as he raced upstairs for a moment before darting back down, only to then turn back around and go back up.
Leo smirked some as he popped an eye open to see his brother racing around, "I thought you were all about being on time and what not." He said with another smirk, as she stood up and stretched some, yawning a bit in the process.
"I know. I know! I'm normally good with that... Why didn't you wake me up?! I didn't mean to sleep that long." Emelo said as he came back down the stairs with a pair of socks in hand. He hopped around some as he tired to get his socks on.
"Hey I didn't know you were out, besides I would have gladly woken you up." Leo smirked some as he buttoned the last button on his shirt and grabbed his jacket and mask, along with his brothers as well.
"Knowing you we would never be getting there then..." Emelo said as he stumble to get his shoes on. Turning around some he began to frantically look for something, "L where is-"
"-Here." Leo said as he held out his brothers jacket. "We are going to need to be careful out there... Go through the back alley and what not, after all it is late and EIRAL officers are out there." Leo said as he handed off the other mask to his brother.
"Ya... Either way need we need to go and be out there. Though we should have been there awhile ago..." Emelo said as he placed the mask in his pocket, figuring it wouldn't be needed quite yet.
The two stepped outside their house, locked the door and made their way to the nearest alleyway, which lucky for them was right next to where they lived. With black jackets on, masks in pockets and nothing but gloves covering their claws, the two began their way through the streets of Lodan to get to the out edge of the city, making sure to stay off to the side and out of the eyes of others. The twins made rather well time and got to the edge of the city with relative ease, besides one drunk man calling out to them for a hand out, everything was fine. Once the two were out they both pulled their masks and placed them on the tops of their heads, not over their face just resting on their heads, after all who wants a balky mask stuck in their pocket.
The masks on their heads were simple ones, just the normal cover the forehead, eyes, and nose, and it left the mouth and chin area open. The design on it was simple yet complex. With a mixture of swirls going from one way to the other it was a bit of an eye teaser, though some of the candy like swirling stripes on it were a solid color, and depending on who's mask it was the color was with black or white. In the center was a colored circle with swirling lines extending from it in the opposite way of the others. Though the lines were the same color as the circle the back coloring was the opposite of that. Both masks looked like mirror images of one another if not for the fact that their coloring had been switched. Leo having the mask that had white as its main color and the swirls all going clockwise, where as Emelo has its opposite with the main color being black and the swirls going counterclockwise. The two mask look almost like a Yin and Yang type deal when set next to one another, being the exactly the same but so very different at the same time. View masks here ---> Mask link
As the two walked up they noticed Lasair along with the new recruit who they met in the library not to long ago.
"Sorry we're late..." Emelo said as he rubbed the back of his head some, feeling bad for how long it took them to get there.
Leo just stood next to his brother some with his hands in his pockets. He wanted to say something but in the end decided that may not be the best, especially considering that sleeping in on the first big mission after their trial wasn't the best thing to do. So instead he just turned and smiled some at Howl, "Hey Howl. Long time no see. Ya ready for this?" He asked with a smirk.
Last Edit: Jan 3, 2016 4:06:16 GMT by Emelo and Leo Halvorsen: Because deciding on what masks are right is to hard....

A smile came to Lasair’s lips when he finally spotted Tyrell coming down for a landing. The new kid didn’t seem to notice him, however so Lasair nodded in the direction of the winged ander. “Tyrell. He’ll be keeping an eye on you from the sky. I already told him what the plan is.”
The twins finally showed up, which earned a smile from Lasair, until he saw that they had arrived with their masks on. “Masks are to be kept in HQ at all times they’re not on your face,” he said towards them in a warning tone. It wasn’t a big deal, but simply something that would need to be corrected. Some of the fault probably fell on Lasair as well, for forgetting to mention that to them. “If the EIRAL ever find reason to search your home, and they find those masks, you’ll be tortured extensively and then killed,” he added, showing that there was a reason for the rule’s placement.
Shaking his head, he turned towards the group now. “Right, let’s get this show on the road. Mummy, we refer to each other via our masks when they’re on our face. When the masks come on, we’re a nameless and faceless group. We go in, we do what we need to, we get out. No killing, no dying. It’s simple. In theory at least.” He smiled slightly before continuing.
“As you all know, there’s a war going on with the country of Sveden. They’re coming towards Lodan from all sides. Including from our fair forest.” He swept his arm out, gesturing to the many trees around them. “They’ve set up a camp a little under a mile away from here, oblivious to our presence in these woods. They have technology unlike anything ever seen in Lodan, and they’re using it to scare the shadow beasts off.” Pausing for a few moments, he let the information sink in. And then he turned towards Howl, the fox’s snout of his mask pointing towards the young kid.
“Your trial is one of reconnaissance. The camp is due north from us, leaning towards northwest.” He pointed at the indicated direction. “Go there, find them, and see what information you can gather. How many troops, who the commanding officer is, what kind of tech they have, how much of that tech they have. Anything else noticeable.” He turned towards the twins then. “These two will be your escorts, because the forest is dangerous. But you two are only to help him find the camp. Once you get to the camp, you sit down and wait. Let him do his thing, or not, depending. When he’s finished, you escort him back. Only if he gets noticed, gets in trouble, then you step in and help him. But only then.”
Looking back to Howl then, he smiled once more, hoping it would help comfort the kid. “Tyrell will be watching you from the sky. If things go bad, he’ll signal me and then come down to help. I’ll be on my way shortly after as well. But kid, try not to get in trouble.” Reaching out, he patted Howl on the shoulder and then turned towards the Sved camp.

Being deaf meant from here he sat he could not hear a thing and with difficulty of seeing people's lips he could not understand the conversation being spoken at all but body language was something he paid very close attention to. When the gesture was made towards him he could only assume that was Lasair's introduction to who or where he was. A nod was given in greeting and with the light of the moon, both he and Howl would be able to see the head of his silhouette move. When the twins came into view Lasair turned his attention to them then Howl. Tyell once again assumed this was where their leader now explained the plans he had already been instructed with meaning all he had to do now was sit back and wait until they moved out.
Howl smiled with relief when the twins walked up. "Im so glade you guys are here... Having people who I know helps a lot."
As Lasair started to talk Howl turned around to look at him. Howl listened as hard as he could, he did not want to mess this up. The smile that the fox gave, at the end of his speech, was not the least but comforting. Instead it only made his stomach worse. Howl had yet to throw up from getting nervous, but the way that his stomach felt Howl though he might. Unsure of what do next Howl turned to go and said "I th-think im good.... I will s-see you..." I hope. Wrapping his hands around his stomach Howl started walking "Yin... Y-Yang... Lets go..."
Howl felt better now that he was moving again. Especially that he was with the twins. He tried to make small talk to distract himself but only as he talked what lie ahead only kept popping up into his head and he would loose his train of thought and go silent.

Emelo cringed some as Lasair spoke about what would happen if they were caught with their masks. "Sorry... We just finished them... But we will bring them there right away." Emelo said as he took the mask from off his head and held it to his chest some, kind of scared to put it back on.
Leo just grit his teeth some at what was said, he knew it would be bad but that bad...
The two stood next too one another as Lasair spoke, some what remembering what he said to them before but now knowing exactly what needed to happen. The two were excited for this, even if they weren't going to be at the camp doing Howl's job at least they were part of this mission, and they were determined to prove they could do this guild right. Even if it was just sitting in a bush and waiting.
"Aye Aye Foxy." Leo said as he gave his signature wave of pointer and middle finger out along with thumb pointed to the sky to Lasair before turning some to begin walking next to Howl... Or Mummy.
Emelo sighed at what his brother said, of course he would say that then turn and walk off, "No questions here, I think we are good." Emelo said as she turned to see the two walking off, "We'll be back before you know it!" Emelo said as he turned and ran after them, catching up in no time.
The two walked next to Howl as they pulled down their masks, somewhat happy that he knew what they were going as. For the most part they expected to be called something either involving the color or the swirls, but for someone to realize they had a theme well... That just made the two of them smile. The two looked at the boy as they walked realizing he was extremely nervous and looked like he was about to hurl any second.
"Hey, relax Mummy. You'll do fine." Leo said as he nudged the boy on the shoulder some, smiling a bit, "And hey worse comes to worse we come in and save your arse. Simple as that." Leo said looking ahead some.
Emelo sighed at what his brother said again, "Don't worry you'll do fine. Just relax, stay calm, and don't get caught. If you do all that you will be fine and pass this with ease." Emelo said hoping to ease the boys nerves some.

Tyrell sat in his tree watching the others as they talked and discussed the plan until they finally came to a conclusion. Once the others began to move, Tyrell waited a few moments and then you ok off into the sky where he flew low enough to see the others but was high enough to remain mostly out of sight.

Lasair stood back and watched everyone depart, smiling slightly before taking a seat on the steps of HQ. Taking the mask back off, he sat back and looked up at the sky. All he had to do was relax and wait. Tyrell would fly over from time to time to deliver status updates. If things started to look grim, he’d take off towards the camp. But he trusted them to handle it.
Meanwhile, at the camp… “Get your rear end in gear! I want to see those crates filled and the mechs ready to deploy!” The commanding officer’s voice boomed at the already busy workers. It was after dark, but they were still hard at work. All the soldiers were working with different machines; loading wooden crates with ammo and spare parts. And then there were the walkers, machines that walked on two legs and had weapons for arms. They stood inactive right now, but all they would need is a pilot to jump into the seat and they could roar to life.
The busyness was both good and bad; good because spies would be less noticeable, bad because it would be harder to gather information. When the trio of masked men approached, they would be able to see a variety of things, but all the requested information wouldn’t be so easy to gather.
(I forgot to mention this but, Howl doesn't have his staff with him.) Finally they arrived at the camp. Now seeing the large camp Howl almost forgot about his stomach, almost. Staring at it wide eyed he said to the twins "I w-wou... was not excepting something this large or at least this active... I guess you guys s-should just wait here."
First Howl crouched down and walked clockwise around the camp scouting it out. The camp itself was fairly large set up more in a square pattern with many tents. With everyone in the camp still busy and working it was fairly easy for Howl to sneak around the edges of the camp. He counted about 30ish people and one commanding officer or at least thats what he could see, for all Howl knew there could be more inside the tents.
Once Howl had circled most of the camp he decided to sit and watch to see more of what the workers were doing. They all seemed to be making or fixing strange machines that he had never seen before, packing them into boxes. Sneaking up to some boxes closer to the side of the camp Howl looked inside. Inside most of the boxes just seemed to be spare parts and ammo.
Howl then turned his attention to the large machine with two legs. He had no idea what it even is let alone what it does. From where he was Howl had a fairly good view of the thing. Howl stared hard at it looking at all the minute details of it; each of the gears and mechanisms. Making sure no machines were around him Howl reached down to the ground and summoned his magic. Pulled as much water as he could into his hand. Concentration as hard as he could, he commanded the water to change shape and freeze into almost perfect miniature of the machine. Now Howl walked slowly to get a better position to stop and to watch and listen to the commanding officer.

The two stood next to the boy as all three stared at the camp. It was a bit larger than they expected but at the same time they should have seen it coming, after all a war was just around the corner and everyone needed all the fighters they could get. The twins then turned to look at Howl as he spoke, "Alright." The two said in sync as they both took a step back, this was the boys trial so helping him right now wasn't really and option.
"Good luck!" Emelo said with a smile as he waved he boy off some.
"Just stay calm and you'll do fine." Leo said as he gave off his signature wave and a small smirk.
The two stepped back once more as the boy took off, all they could do was hope that everything went well for him and that no one would catch him. Stepping off to the side the two found a tree hidden and out of the way, they decided this would be a good spot to wait, considering the fact that they could still hear everything from the camp and looking over at just the right angle they could see it as well. They would need to keep an eye out as the boy went on, after all if something did happen they would have to run out there to help.
Sighing some Emelo looked over to his brother, "How do you think he will do?" He asked in a hushed voice.
"Your guess is a good as mine..." Leo said as he looked over some, kind of seeing the boy make his way around the side of the camp.
(Sorry for the late response... Work and the poster have taken over my life....)

The walkers were a disgusting sight because they towered over some trees while the canopy of others struggled to conceal them. How they navigated such monstrosities through the small area he was unsure but he supposed that was why Sveden was something to fear. Their talent and machinery was untouched by Lodan in her given state and for a moment the large ander was scared. This was nothing like when he fought in the pits. There it was two people against one another sometimes with weapons other times not. This was far more than that. What brought them into this war, he wondered.
Regardless, Tyrell watched his allies until they disappeared out of sight in order to cover from the camp. He waited a few moments yet before making the flight back for his latest report to Lasair, explaining what they saw and where the three were.
