Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to all It had been a while since Zona got her new leg, and even longer since she lost her leg. Everything still seemed a blur to her and she still couldn't believe Cyran was dead. Everything seemed different though, not just because of the war that was beginning all around this city but just in general, everything seemed to be happening. Zona was still getting used to the sound and lights of the mortals flying though the night sky and it left her a bit tired from a sleepless night.
Zona yawned some as she walked though the crowded streets, making sure to stay near the edge of the street rather than in the middle like she normally would. Zona's eyes lit up as the smell of fresh bakery hit her nose, shaking the sleepiness from her. She smiled some as the small stand stood just feet in front of her. Zona's stomach grumbled as the smell continued to hit her, she then realized she had forgotten to eat yesterday and didn't have anything for breakfast this morning either... Did she even have food in her house... Walking over to the small stand, Zona stood wide eyed as she stared at all the baked goods. "Oh... That looks good." She mumbled to herself as she looked at the raisin bread.

Elaine sighed and stared down at the ground as she walked. Well it was more like the she was trying to glare at it. The last week had been a long set of rough days for the girl, which was slowly becoming the usual. At least a minimum of three things had to go wrong. And today was no different. Elaine pulled down the sleeves of her shirt over her hands and slid her thumbs into the little holes she'd cut for them. Kept her hands from freezing to death when she forgot her gloves, like today. The bag on her hip had been torn through so many times after she left the Curio shop looking for them that she nearly cried in defeat. The black long-sleeve was covered by a two piece leather vest. She had pretty much gone shopping and replaced a few of her clothes that were....not quite up to the challenge of her current jobs. She'd also brought new boots and everything more fit to hold her if she needed to scale something quickly. Rolling her shoulder she looked down at her arm when the muscles twitched defiantly. Irritably she crossed her arms over her chest and tucked her hands down out of sight. She hadn't gone to talk to Zona in a while. Still highly appalled at the lowlifes (that happened to be her own kind) who did the ruthless deed to her. The girl pulled her lips back in a sneer and muttered something under her breath. She wasn't paying attention to where she was going and bumped into someone. She flicked her gaze up, still in glare mode, and muttered an apology before focusing on who it really was. Her gaze softened but she still remained in her tight little ball of pent up frustration.

Zona bent down some as she sniffed the bread only to be stopped by someone walking into her, "Hey! Would you watch it-" Zona began only to realize that the person who bumped her was a dear friend of hers, "Elaine!" Zona said with a smile as she turned away from the stand to look at her friend. "What are you doing out here? Ya lookin' for some good bread cuz that stuff smells great!" Zona said as she pointed to the bread next to her. Zona was happy to see Elaine, it had been a while since she last had saw her... or well vaguely saw her, after all she was going in and out of contentiousness when that happened. "Anyway how have you been? It seems like forever since I last saw ya." Zona said with a smile.

"Hey Z." She grinned back. "I was headed...home." She said, which was the truth, but she wanted to go for a run first. She really needed to clear her head. She laughed softly and tilted her head at Zona. "Are you really asking me if I want some or are you hinting that you want me to buy some for you?" She arched an eyebrow at her friend playfully. The girl enjoyed teasing her best friend, and it was all the better after not seeing her for a while. "I'm doing okay. You?" The little brat under Archie's watch at the moment was being an utter pain in the arse. And Rowan still had yet to be found. Elaine was getting a headache just thinking about it. The girl puffed out a breath to knock the one rogue curl out of her eyes.
Light swarmed his head, a headache, drumming nonstop with every step. With every motion. Asking him to sit down. To lay down. To sleep. The empty bottle, a mere sip that had gone on far too long, now lay in the trash. Laughing, saying, “look at what you have become.” Goya didn’t speak to him. Didn’t approach him. Lay turned off in the corner, where Kaia stayed as well. Bundling the sphere, squaking as Wern approached “Don’t come near,” Don’t hurt” she seemed to screamed. He followed her wish. Threw on a scarf and hat, to bundle, to hide, the waste he had become. The sleepless man, once plagued by ideas, was now too afraid to sleep. The teeter and shake of mortar, the firelight, the screams, the burning, the death, prevented any form of rest. He couldn’t sleep, not anymore. Not when people died. Not when people needed help, and he could give them—should give them help, instead of praying into a whiskey bottle. But without the aid of alcohol, without going from one glass to three, he couldn’t function. Couldn’t calm. Couldn’t rest. So he bought a whole bottle, drank a whole bottle, when once he had sworn not to drink at all. Funny how a city can do that to a man.
The smell of bread wafted from a stall as he walked, and the dull headache, the throbbing, begged for comfort. And so he got on line, but two women— they were talking. And they were taking so long. And the bread, his sweet release, was right there. He just wanted to eat.
“Excuse me.” He stated, trying to keep his irritably rather low as he pointed to the stand. “I believe it’s your turn to order.”

"I could never have you buy somthin' for me." Zona said as she looked at the the girl, making it seem like she was offended by the statement, "But if you offered to I wouldn't go and tell ya not too." She added with a smile just as she heard someone speak up and talk to the two of them. "Oh sorry about that." Zona said with a light smile as she took a step back and turned to look at the man. "We aren't in line to get anythin'. Sorry 'bout that." Zona added as she took another step back and grabbed Elaine's hand, "We were just about to leave." She said as she turned around and began to walk off, not before quickly swiping two small loaves of bread and jamming them in her side bag. The movement was quick and barely noticeable, the owner would have never seen it coming, or should we say going...
Turning her attention back to Elaine, Zona made it seem like nothing happened at all, "I've been doin' well, or as well as ya can." Zona said with a light smile as shrugged some. She would have added more too that but for some reason thought it better to leave it at that unless the girl asked, either way she didn't really mind talking about it or not.

Elaine turned to look at the man behind them, noting a tone in his voice. "Sorry." She said feeling Zona tug on her arm. She didn't argue, she was too worn out to do so. Following her friend she ran a hand through her hair. "That's good. Glad your doing alright." She said smiling softly. She hadn't noticed the swiped bread and at the moment quite frankly didn't care. She walked beside the blue haired Ander tightening the belt that held her cloak tucked in in the side. It swished about her ankles softly.
He had been too harsh. It was evident as the two girls walked away. He hadn’t meant it, but he didn’t feel like apologizing. The headache, it buzzed in his head, sudden movements, reminding him of yesterday. No. That morning? Whenever he had had passed out. Whenever he had shut off Goya. Whenever it had taken place, it echoed, only to be made worse as he noticed something. The girl- the blue haired one. Swiping two loaves of bread, and with such little remorse, it took him a moment to understand what had happened. But when it did sink in, oh, that’s when things snapped.
“Hey, you. Stop right there.” He hissed, walking up to the group of girls once more, brow furrowed.
“I saw what you did. Now, pay the man for his wares, or I’ll have to report you.” He inspected the other. She appeared well off. Not the best. But she had clothes on her back. Well, at least some. There was quite a bit of skin showing. And a tattoo. Something that Wern winced a little bit about, though, that may have been more due to the headache then the actual revealed flesh. It seemed Lodanites were more open about their body then what he would have preferred, something he had come to learn with the ball, but regardless, bread.

Zona sighed some as the man called her out, letting irritation wash over her face. Though she quickly lost the face as she turned back around to look at the man, "Who me?" Zona questioned as she raised a brow, time to play dumb. "Why... Why would you report me? I... I didn't do anythin'." Zona added as she looked over to the man some but with puppy dog eyes, making it seem like she had no idea what was happening. She hoped Elaine didn't realize what happened or at least would play along with her, either way this should be fun.

Elaine merely turned to look at the man accusing Zona of stealing. A voice in the back of her head said his accusations were probably true, but with no supporting evidence and the fact that Zona was her friend, she had to disagree. At least he wasn't ERIAL right? Elaine dawned a confused look. "What are you talking about?" She said tilting her head slightly, something she did to appear a little more innocent. Her green eyes flashed as she focused them on the man confronting them and took him in. Scruffy, not in the best of moods, and he smelled slightly of alcohol. Elaine caught a small scent of it when he had spoke to them before about moving in line. The girl shifted her weight to her right side and kept her thoughts to herself for the moment.
At the thief’s lie, and her companions innocent look, Wern blinked, stepping back, almost wondering if he was mistaken. But, no, no— he was right. He saw it. Stepping forward, he furrowed his brow, pointing toward the blue haired woman’s bag.
“I saw you take two pieces of bread— and put in your bag. You should be ashamed of yourself.” Folding his arms, he tried to ignore the green eyed girl, at how she looked at him. He knew that look. The look that questioned, that wondered. He knew he wasn’t reliable. Had seen it in Abigail’s eyes. But she— she knew nothing of him. “This is a hard time. And—“ Noticing people’s glances, he shrunk a bit. Were they looking at him? At them? Were they even looking? “—and it might get worse. So, we need to respect people, and not steal from the wares that are already getting hit pretty hard by the war.” As he spoke, he tried to keep his voice level, to prevent the shake in his hands. The fear that griped them, the pushed the desire to drink. To just go back into his room. To lock himself away. To make things just stop.

Zona took a step forward as she narrowed her eyes at this guy, and in one quick, unnoticed move she switched the bread from her one side bag to the back one. "No before you go on with your lecture, get your facts straight!" Zona said as she grabbed the side bag and held it out to the man, "I didn't steal anythin'. Go ahead and search for the bread you think I took. All I can say is that you will be sadly mistaken." She added as she tossed the bag at the man, and the smell of alcohol fully hit her. She was a bit surprised that a man in his state noticed her... He must have been watching closer than she thought.
Crossing her arms she waited for the man to go through the bag and find that there was nothing but some wrappings, clothe, a watch, a bit of paper and a pencil, and some other garbage that she needed to throw out. "Even if I did take the bread have you ever thought the reason behind it may have been because money is somethin' I don't have?" She questioned as she stared the man down, "Ya I get these are crappy times and they are gonna get worse, but your just gonna have to suck it up and deal with it. Stealin' happens and the more people you 'turn in' for doin' it are gonna end up 6 feet under in a jail cell. Leavin' a bunch of rich sons of bitches in control of all the money, causing even more people to end up dead in the ground. Just because some one take somethin' little like that doesn't mean is just for them, it could be for someone else who needs it more then they do and even then if that ain't the reason they are probably goin' to sell it off, meaning more money is goin' back into circulation, slowly but surely helpin' bring this sorry city back up to code." Zona said, not backing down or removing her stare. She was determined to get this guy off her case.

Elaine continued to study the man, taking no worry or heed to Zona's ramblings. Yet she said nothing as she listened to the two. The man was beginning to look nervous under her gaze, and the slight overlook of the passersby. He seemed introverted, and slowly wavering on the median where he is second guessing himself. HIs thoughts were very coherent and almost philosophical if he tried. But the feline took a small breath as Zona badgered the man against his own statements. "The war hits us all hard." She said pointedly casting Z a look before turning her stern green eyes on the man. "The rich and the poor are all sinking in the same boat, the rich just like to be petty with their money and only serve to sink us faster at times. Balance is difficult to achieve without some form of wrong to counteract the right. But that does not mean that every time you turn around someone is taking something. There are lost a hungry families around and if you want to go around and be a do-gooder save your own money and turn them in some food for them and their hungry children." She finished speaking and stood tall in front of him aside from Zona who just looked aggravated. The feline shifted and put her hands down by her sides not worrying if this man noticed her claws or not. Her long, well kept nails might even help give conviction to her words if her voice hadn't lived up to the challenge.
The bag hit Wern, and he scrambled to catch it. He didn’t bother looking through it though. It was not his place or right to go through another’s belongings. Even if convicted of stealing, he wouldn’t stoop that low. Especially not with the eyes, and how the women seemed to tower over him, if not physically, then emotionally. They were confident, solid in their beliefs, and he— he was shaking. Unsure of anything now. Maybe it all had been a trick of his mind. A trick of the drink, the brown bottle that lay broken in his back alley. It was already apparent that he had lost. His breath quickened and he ducked his head, clutching the bag tightly before extending it out.
“Take it. I’m not going to search it.” Looking down at the cobblestones, Wern swallowed.
“Stealing shouldn’t be an option.” He nudged the ground, boot, digging into the mud. “And I wouldn’t have turned you in to the soldiers. To the baker—to earn your bread. Work for it. Good work is just as fine as money.” Wern glanced at the black haired women, at how she stood, poised, coherent —and him, he must have looked in shambles, like a fool.
“And I do give them food. I build houses, I donate. I give lodging, medical care. But there’s so many.” Wern’s hands trembled, and again, that itch, that desire. He wanted a drink. Wanted to feel the warmth grip his stomach, to block that portion of his brain that reminded him of the burning children, their screams, then the choking sounds as the smoke griped their lungs. Of the women with bloated stomachs, so hungry because they gave their children food instead of them. He knew of the problems. Of the gaps between rich and poor. And how everyone seemed to carry on in indifference. He wanted to give, but he could only give so much.

Zona listened as both Elaine talked and then the boy. Her face softened some as she took the bag back and tied it back off around her waist. "No matter what times are hard and it doesn't seem to be gettin' better anytime soon." Zona said as she looked back up at the man, shoving her hands in her pockets at the same time, "How about we all go get a drink or two." Zona asked, not only wanting to change the subject but get out of the street as well, it didn't really help that her leg was acting up. Shifting her weight some she looked over her shoulder some, "There's a place just down the street. How about we head down there." Zona added as she looked back over at the two. Even if the man did smell of alcohol she need a drink too after all this.
