Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Elaine saw Edel stand up out of the corner of her eye from where she was staring intently at the floor. The girl didn't exactly want to look up. But when she felt a hand on her head she had too. She looked up slightly surprised. 'Goggles?' Elaine had goggles, she was just so used to not using them unless she was running on rooftops. 'EIRALs.....' That name brought back bad memories. Pushing them aside the younger assassin felt a small wisp of relief that Edel wasn't extremely angry with her. "Yes ma'am." She said, her voice stronger and not as high. She could do this. The funny thing about CAEsAL, you may think its everyman for himself but if you really look into it your trying to protect all of them and each one is doing the same for you. Keep the secret, keep the guild.
[Sounds like the girl accompanying Stephen was the one we encountered in the alleyway.] reported Abe. [And getting a verbal trashing from the sound of it.]
"Ouch," Amon replied, wincing a little. Well...at the same time, it kinda was her fault...
He was doing the finishing touches, successfully removing the bullet, emptying most of the gunpowder from the barrel, and reassembling the gun. "Hey Abby, can you help me open a window?" he asked. "As well as fan out the gunpowder smell..."
"Sure," replied Abby.
Once the window was open, Amon stuck his arm out and activated the gun, which gave off a small pop. He needed to get rid of the trace amounts, so that it wouldn't accidentally go off in his arm. Hopefully it didn't scare off any kids...or make the room smell too much.
"Guess I'll apologize, just in case..." he muttered as he helped Abby clean up and fan out the room.
"Well, let's see what they're talking about now, shall we?" Amon said as he made his way downstairs.

Well. Edel was straight forward. He almost felt sorry for Elaine. Almost; but she had broken the first rule, one the eye patched noble was very conscious of given his past with it, so the punishment was required. He would have to find someone willing to tail her, unless Edel already had someone in mind. Stephen listened to the rest of the conversation in silence, thinking it ironic that the guild member with the code name Shadow was caught so soon. Hopefully if Edel had something to scold him for she would do it later and not in the presence of others. Disciplining a normal ranked assassin with the 2nd in command was nothing. Yelling at the second in command in front of a normal assassin would make them disrespect him even more. He already was on shaky ground with Maeve challenging him. Speaking of which, he should probably bring that up to Edel but later.
Stephen glanced out of the corner of his eye to see Amon descend the stairs. Amon.... The fact that the man knew so much about their guild did not sit well with him. Amon had not gained even a sliver of his trust, although he had done nothing as of yet to cause mistrust either. Amon was sticking his nose in business that really did not concern him. The man was practically harboring a murder in his guild as well, the very targets that CAEsAL's hunted down. Who knows, Amon might even be listening in on this very conversation like some pompous EIRAL. Stephen gave Amon an icy glare, letting it be known that his presence in this room was not appreciated. "Edel, do you trust Amon," Stephen said under his breath, turning to gauge his leaders reaction.

Pearl would be tailing Elaine from that point and on while they remain within the Central Square, since she was the closer informant available at that very minute. Once they leave though, be it to the Theater District or somewhere else, the redhead would place Elaine in Stephen's charge until the second-in-command chooses someone else to watch the brown-haired lass. Thankfully for Stephen, Edelweiss wasn't the type who yelled at people when angry, if he can remember well. She never needed to associate loud voice and disapproval, quite the contrary. So if sometime she's yelling at someone, the person would probably be well, perhaps just a tad deaf.
Edelweiss made her wait back to the seat she'd been at before and sat back on it. "I guess you weren't here to witness, Stephen, but he helped us quite a bit during the last civil war. And as you might guess, the names on our boards and referring payments from each task come from somewhere, not magically appear there. Also there's something I must question why..." And it sounds like they had company yet again; from where Edelweiss was sitting she had her back turned to Amon, but she could hear the sound of his boots descending the stairsteps. Hard to mistake that. And the first thing the mechanic would probably hear clear and unveiled from her downstairs was... "Amon found me here before my best friend." She squinted her eyes at Stephen.
She would have said 'before my second-in-command', but Stephen's position wasn't as publicly known as the lad seemed to believe it was, so she switched it for 'best friend'. Sounded more informal, and more like friendly teasing than boss chidding. Close enough. Actually, cross that 'close enough', it was true; she wouldn't give the second-in-command position of CAEsAL to someone she didn't trust a lot, so might as well be open about that and say it, Stephen is her best friend. But he could be judgemental of anyone else only after he explains to her why a mechanic found her before he did. Oh the disappointment, Stephen, the DISAPPOINTMENT. And all the doughnuts you'll need to buy before she forgets this.

Stephen listened to her explanation and nodded, taking the information in. So he helped with the civil war? That was nice, he supposed. He just thanked his lucky stars that he had not been a resident of Lodan durning the war. Wars were terrible and he hated them. Edel paused whatever she was about to say and seemed to notic Amon's presence. Figures, she was about to say something important too-probably. Before he could get any more annoyed he was totally floored by Edel's next sentence. She's called him her best friend. Blinking in shock, he started at her, unable to hide the mixed emotions on his face. He could not recall a time in which anyone had call him their best friend before. Was it just a code word for 2nd in command or was she being genuine. He had no idea. Knowing he should feel ashamed for having Amon beat him in the search for this donut feind, he couldn't quite muster up the appropriate shame; he was far too distracted by the thought of being someone's best friend. So he kept his mouth shut and nodded.
"Huh...Stephen, I didn't know you were that close to Edel," said Amon, a twinge of jealousy in his voice. "By the way, if there is a lingering smell of gunpowder upstairs, I'm sorry. I did my best to air out the place," he said to Edel as he made is way to an empty seat.
"As to how and why I found Edel...I just...followed a really stupid rumor," he continued. "Something about a clockwork doll making dolls...admittedly stupid, but I wanted to check it out. So yeah, in summary: I came here (I guess on a whim), I picked the lock, startled Edel, nearly had my neck sliced by a crafting spatula, had Abby redo Edel's stitches, and tried to get her to rest just prior to something trying to get in and us running into you guys."
"So...um...hopefully I wasn't interrupting anything..."

As much as Stehen's 'Is this real? Reality is broken?' bluescreening robotic reaction was pretty amusing, Edelweiss would still find it quite sad if she finds out it was caused by him never having a best friend before. And also that he only got one when started working on killing people. "Ah, no, not really..." The redhead replied to Amon when he asked if he was interrupting anything. "...But I think I accidentally broke him. He's acting a tad dazed." She pointed at Stephen with a in part intrigued and in part worried look; she hoped he could bring his mind back to his body and wouldn't need some shaking as fixing.

Stephen turned to Amon, frowning some as he mulled over his thoughts and the other man's comments. "No need to sound like a jealous wife, Amon." He meant to say that phrase with a bit of malice behind it but could only muster a tone of surprised dismay given his present state of mind. Clearing his throat, he stood up and gently took Stephannie from Elaine's arms. She had hogged the cat's attention for far to long and he needed something to cuddle with to make up for his sad life.

Elaine protested the capture of her fuzzy comrade with a huff. She glared at the noble with a look that might have killed if she actually meant it. Annoyed that the kitten was kidnapped from her clutches she put her elbows on her knees and propped up her chin on her hands. She looked about the room in vague interest. Green eyes flickering from Amon to Stephen and back. She had a bit of an interest in the life of the mechanic who somehow or other knew about CAEsAL. Hating the fact that she was interested in someone who helped get her in trouble she hid her betraying curiosity behind a straight face. She watched Stephen cuddle Stephanie. 'Well I suppose we all need a kitten to hold every now and then.' She thought.
"Uh huh..." Amon said, raising an eyebrow at Stephen's remark.
"...You think it would wake him up if I told him I figured out that he was an assassin once I found out you were his boss?" he asked Edel.
"On that same note, sorry if I cut your mission short," he said to Elaine. "I dunno if it was chance at being at the wrong place at the wrong time, but I was attracted by your target's scream. I didn't recognize you at least..." he continued, giving an apologetic shrug.
Might as well tell them now, lest their eye daggers turn into real ones...

Anger was eating away at the noble as he gave Amon a side long glance. The problem with Amon was that he was somewhat close to his father. If Amon ever felt the need to let slip his present employment situation, Charles would make his life a living hell after that. So, he might as well be honest. "I suspected as much. I do ask that you keep such information to yourself, Amon. You have the power to ruin me if my employment gets out and that would highly complicate things for others and myself. The fact that I am an assassin is nothing I want flaunted about; there is no pride in taking another life... no matter the reason." Sometimes, Stephen wished he was insane- someone who enjoyed taking out the criminals of the streets. But he was not and killing another person took a great toll on him. Amon might not think much of it, but the fact that he was officially pinning him as an assassin was painful. It was fine if another assassin knew. But having a friend find out hurt.

"...I suppose that answered your question...." The redhead pondered to Amon. Yes it snapped Stephen out of his daze, no he wasn't happy in the least. At least Amon isn't getting murdered today... unless his tongue slips.
"No one is proud of it, Stephen. Hm, well, let me correct myself: no one sane is proud of it. Unfortunately the job falls on us while the EIRALS are somewhere doing... I wonder what they do, maybe sip tea and tailor green uniforms."
"Aaaand he's back," said Amon with a smile, settling into his chair.
"And why would I ever want to ruin you Stephen?" continued Amon. "I'm sure you have your reasons, along with pretty much every member of CAEsAL who wishes to be an assassin. Plus, I have deep respect for you guys; outside of my personal targets, I don't think I could continue that line of work, among other reasons. Needless to say, you guys' secrets are safe with me."
"As for the EIRALs...they are a business partner, and I've personally been to their headquarters a number of times, but I still have no idea what they do..."

"Oooh we have been within their headquarters before too. Properly allowed inside, all protected and all, gathered in the same room. Along a couple acquaintances from BoR. And they never knew." Edelweiss laughed. She liked to remember that, it always put a smile on her face while she's feeling stressed or a bit down. "It wasn't even a mission, we just got curious of something happening on the roof and each got in there in their own fashion. It's one of my most amusing memories, I admit."
"But I won't meddle in with your business with them either, at least of that you can rest assured." Truth to be told, she does know the EIRALS are a lot more competent than her previous comments make it seem she does, but the fact that single memory happened truly, be it for whatever reason heavens allowed, made her highly amused - she wouldn't say happy, but amused yes. And she also truly didn't want to cause trouble to Amon, so long as he had helped the assassins in the past and was also not causing them trouble today.

Stephen only grunted in response to Amon. To be honest he did not have the slightest clue for how Amon felt towards the CAEsAL and himself. He petted Stephannie as he listened to the conversation quietly.
