Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

She moved her head in something that looked like a partial nod to Lasair's first comment about Amon being back to his normal life. Well, not exactly like nothing happened since the mechanic had actually 'grew' a second eye and was currently buried in guild issues that were generated exactly by his long period of absence, but as Edelweiss opened her mouth to comment on that her voice caught in her throat. Lasair kept on talking, and though she was faintly aware of the hand that had been on her shoulder till a moment ago all her will was focused on keep on breathing evenly and maintain some control over her own body functions. 'It sounds like he’s returned a different person.' Stop. 'In a way it’s like he did die, only to be replaced by an imposter.' She didn't want to think of that. She didn't want her own fears voiced aloud either, by anyone. 'And that causes a lot of different pain.' Please stop. She was the leader of the entertainers and assassins guild, putting a smile on her face independing of the rest should have been easy practice by now. But at the moment it wasn't. Her lungs refused to work in the pace she wished them to, and her body shook against her will between simple trembling and quiet sobs as the wet streaks running down her cheeks became too obvious to pass unnoticed. When did she become such a crybaby? Stop crying, stupid ginger. Yet no matter how much she wiped them, the tears wouldn't stop. "Please... stop..." But some forces in nature, such as gravity and emotions, will make you fall and shatter with the cruelty of unaltered indiference.

He should have noticed the pain his words were causing, but his focus was elsewhere as memories replayed behind his eyes. And then her quiet words were heard and he did stop, everything about him unmoving as he looked to Edel, seeing her cry for the second time. Unlike last time, however, he wasn’t going to just sit there being awkward about it. No, she deserved some real comfort in this moment, despite all the pain and confusion going on lately.
Both his arms wrapped around her and gently pulled her to his shoulder. He held her tightly, feeling the water already beginning to soak through his thin shirt. But he didn’t care. Instead, he was much too distracted by the scent of apples and of a budding wetness forming at his own eyes. Was crying contagious? Usually not, but in this moment, perhaps it was. He could only hope he didn’t leave her shoulder too soaked to cause discomfort.
“I’m sorry. I’m here for you,” he said quietly in her ear, fighting to keep his voice from cracking. It really wanted to crack though and decided to with the last word. There was no fighting it now, the world was crashing down on them but at least they weren’t alone in the pain.

If Edelweiss were calmer, she might have wondered more on Lasair's words and the meaning behind them - if he had any experience with that himself, or whatever else caused him to think and speak that way. Maybe she still would ponder that at some point, but at a later time, after the tears have dried and the thoughts settled down. At the moment there was too much of everything to feel, and more than anything else there was an at first faint but now slowly increasing sense of tiredness. It was quite impressive how sad crying could be exhausting. The redhead woman just buried herself against the first thing she had access to (which happened to be Lasair's shoulder) as the sobbing continued, not minding in the least the mild dampness caused by tears on fabric. Lasair had joined her in crying too, and she was causing this shirt to get wet as much as he was wetting her hair anyway.
And there they were, two gingers crying like toddlers, soothed by a lullaby of salty water and rheum. How lovely.

His tears ended before hers, which was expected. He wasn’t feeling exactly what she was, the confrontation of things that would be better left ignored. Rather, it was his usual feelings just trying to get some release for the moment. And they did, which left him feeling much better than he had when he woke up this evening. The nightmare still tickled the back of his mind, but he didn’t care. The Edelweiss here next to him wasn’t the one from the dream. That much he knew.
He would hold her until she stopped crying, and then perhaps afterwards too as she fought to recompose herself. It was good to cry, and while he felt a bit of guilt for having spurred this on, it wasn’t too heavy. It would do more help than harm, at the very least. But until she was finished with this, he would sit there, hugging her and enjoying the nice scent of apples. There were worse places to be after all.

Lasair's planned little course of action was a good one, though it would be frustrated this time since, although struggling to recompose herself as fast as affordable is something Edelweiss is very prone to do in normal circunstances, this time it did not happen. Mostly because all the accumulated work stress and emotional distress coupled with all that crying left the redhead woman drained on energy, and the tears only lessened slowly to open space for sleep instead.

Listening to her breathing, he tried to gauge how she was feeling since he couldn’t see her face. And slowly, the short breaths of sobs calmed down, falling into normal breath. But they continued decreasing, until they reached the point of that breathing one did as they were sleeping. She had fallen asleep on him? The fact was oddly enduring and Lasair found himself wearing a soft smile. She had trouble sleeping just as he did, only her troubles out dated his by quite a while. He didn’t want to wake her and saw no reason he would need to.
Was there any reason he couldn’t spend the night here? No, especially with MI being his residence now. So he took a breath and scooted over a little, doing his best to be gentle and not wake her. Then he leaned back, resting his head on the corner where the armrest met the back of the couch. Edel stayed in his arms, only moving slightly to lay on his chest as he leaned over. She seemed to be clinging to him in her slumber, which was again sweet in its own way. “Good night,” he whispered, taking one last look at her revealed face before closing his eyes. While he didn’t feel immediately sleepy, he had a feeling it would come before the sun rose.

Edelweiss woke up to early sunlight entering the living room windows, and the fact she was both still dressed in her daily clothes, not in her own bedroom nor office, and kind of using Lasair as a human mattress between herself and the couch. Figures she had fallen asleep on him the past night; should have been expected, with how stressful it was. No dreams she could recall again (as normal), but she didn't feel particularly tired anymore. While part of her felt guilty for Lasair having been stuck at her place through the night, the other side of her pointed out at least that resulted in him getting some hours of calmer slumber for himself as well. Like some sort of gathering for depressed insomniacs to sleep better. Or at least judging by his face he didn't seem too troubled, enough she didn't feel like waking him up still. She'd have to ask about his recurring and new nightmares afterwards though; for now better stand up and get something done for breakfast. She could munch on those sweets the fellow redhead had brought while at it, but 2-3 small sugary pastries didn't make an actual meal. Maybe she could get some fruit and pancakes, those were fast to make.

While his slumber didn’t include any nightmares, it did include dreams. And one particular dream was still playing on his eyes when Edel decided to get up, causing his arms to move to free her. And that movement also brought him to being awake. At first he didn’t stir, but as he heard her steps, he yawned, reaching up to stretch for a moment. Taking a moment to recall the events of last night, he found himself smiling slightly as he opened his eyes.
Looking towards her, he realized she was cooking? “Need a hand?” he asked from the couch, pulling himself back to sitting up. He was a decent cook when it came to certain foods. Perhaps he could offer some assistance.

When Lasair's voice came from the living room, Edelweiss leaned a bit to the side against the central counter in the kitchen to try and spot him through the open door. He seemed reasonably awake sitting up on the couch, or at least that was the impression she had although then again that fiery hair of his would give an 'awake' vibe even to his sleeping body.
"That depends." She replied quickly. "What are your thoughts on pancakes?"

He stood up, walking towards the kitchen. “I’m the best at making pancakes. They were my favorite food when I was traveling; I’d always have to ask around to get the ingredients for blending the mix. I’d knock at doors and if a guy answered, I’d tell them I was new in town and trying to make some grub. Only ask for one ingredient. Pretty honest. But if a girl answered, I’d charm my way into getting almost everything I needed for the recipe.”
Pausing, he realized he was rambling. Oops. Keeping quiet now, he moved to help her measure out the mix and begin adding the missing ingredients before pouring it in the pan. If she would allow him to completely take over, he would. But until then, he cooperated with her in making pancakes.

Wow. Lasair looked really chipper and lively for so early in the morning, and Edelweiss couldn't help but snicker - much more at that very fact than at the little story he was telling, though it was also amusing to a degree. She couldn't remember seeing him acting so... happy, it had been a while. Probably since Castamere. ...This was a sad thought. Enough of sad thoughts for now. She shoved that line of thinking away into the darker corners of her mind and focused on the pancakes talk once again. "Sounds like it would either grant you a lot of free meals or a lot of jealous husbands chasing you out - or both." She commented lightly once everything in the pancake mix was, well, mixed and all that was left was gently dripping it into the frying pan and flipping the pancakes when necessary before moving each onto a duo of plates. "You look like you had a nice sleep for a change. Can I assume my couch gained another ginger seal of approval besides my own?"

“Oh I was used to guys chasing me out of town. Because of wives, sometimes, but it was usually because of daughters.” He paused, flipping some pancakes over before speaking again. “That’s a different kind of story though,” he confessed, fighting to keep his usual sadness from seeping back in once again. It was nice to get away from that, if only for a night. If only for a morning.
He pulled the finished pancakes off the pan and flipped them all onto one plate. As he poured more batter, he gestured for Edel to take the plate. “Go ahead and eat; I have this taken care of.” Perhaps he’d have to make his old pancake mix again and cook it in MI. That would be a nice treat. Waiting a moment for the pancakes to get cooking, he spoke up once more, eyes resting on the hot pan. “I don’t know if it was the couch… But yeah. I slept better than I usually do. Dreams, but not nightmares this time. I can’t remember the last time I had that.”

"Pfffft." Now there was the mention of being chased out of town by angry dads, and the redhead woman couldn't help but let out another snicker at the story this time. "Why am I not surprised... imagining if my own father did that to someone looks pretty ridiculous in my head though. Never was much of a runner." Though that wasn't something worth to ponder much since Walden didn't stick around as she grew up enough to reach the stage where anyone would try to 'charm' her. And then she had to try to not laugh at the fact Lasair was trying to seize her kitchen for himself.
"Maybe you just needed a moment to vent and then exhaustion caught up. It certainly did to me - sorry for keeping you squished there the whole night." She shrugged slightly. "Oh? What did you dream?"

“I didn’t have anywhere better to be. …And it would have been a crime to wake you up by moving. That’s why I stayed.” He smiled a little, taking the next batch of pancakes off the pan and putting them on a plate. With the cooking done now, he flipped off the heat and moved to sit at the table. “It was an odd dream. Nothing really worth explaining,” he said, shrugging the mention of it off. “What was your father like? I haven’t heard much about him. If you don’t mind talking about it I mean. We can go over something else if you prefer.”

"I don't particularly mind, but there isn't much to tell. He disappeared when I was at the start of my teen years, so it was mostly just me and my mother for a long while." She shrugged slightly again and took a little moment to enjoy a forkful of warm pancakes. "But he was a piano teacher. Taught me a bit too, when I was a little girl. He was a nice dad. I just have trouble trying to imagine how would things be if I had fully grew up with him around."
