Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
"Yeah, they're real," Amon replied with a small smile. Was he (and his whole situation) that strange?
...On second thought, don't answer that.
"Ah, that reminds me: hey mom, the twins are currently finishing some things up in the back, they should be joining us shortly."
"Thank you," Rebecca replied. "As for the basket, part yes, part no: while I do enjoy baking with fruit from time to time, our family does enjoy eating them fresh...though I may whip something up before I go, considering the complaints I heard..."
"When Abby follows the recipe, it's somewhat okay...it's when she starts using your measurements that things get screwy (the hell's a pinch?!)."
"Well, has she gotten better?"
"Define 'better.'"
"Point taken," Rebecca said with a sigh. "Well...since we're going to be here awhile longer, could you be a dear and-"
"Got it," Amon replied, making his way to the front, changing the sign to "closed," locking the door and closing all the curtains.
"Thank you," Rebecca said with a smile, undoing her bonnet and letting her silver hair (save for a small bun) fall on her shoulders like a waterfall. She began to channel her magic, and a moment later a pair of sleek, silver wings flowed from two hidden slits in the back of her dress like quicksilver.
She stretched her wings, flapping them for a bit before folding them behind her. "Much better!" she exclaimed, enjoying her wings' newfound freedom.

If Amon had asked out loud about his situation and himself being strange, Edelweiss might have answered with a "Not much more than mine/me". Rose was kept throughoutly oblivious to much of what she did or lived - mainly the dangerous things - for the both of them's own safety, so there were things (even not directly related ones) her mother had a hard time understanding or imagining; but that didn't mean aforementioned things were all that strange nor bad... At least the redhead didn't think so. But he didn't ask out loud, so no spoken reply was given.
Meanwhile that, Rebecca was busy unfurling her wings for the (very limited within that shop's) world to see, but before Edelweiss could comment anything on that someone else did for her: "Ahh, so you are a Winged one, that explains a couple things... Have to admit I feel a bit embarrassed now, all I can do of special is maybe writting a letter without using ink." "...There, I guess now she'll stop embarrassing you for a while." Edelweiss whispered to Amon with a bit of a smile that was both apologetic and amused, then retook a normal though quiet tone of voice. "Though kinda glad we could enjoy the sight of my mom being a cute fangirl before lunch instead of after." "Edel, pumpkin sweet, I can hear you~" "You're still my favorite fangirl, mom." She snickered, and Rose ended up doing it too, even a little more amused than her daughter. "Sorry. I got a little too much enthusiasm."

"I'm sure she'll find a way," Amon whispered back, rolling his eye.
At Rose's remark, Rebecca giggled. "Well, anyone could use blood as ink, as morbid as it sounds...but I'm glad to have another fan of my wings," she said, giving Amon a wink, earning another eye roll from the one-eyed mechanic.
"Seeing your lack of surprise, I can assume that Amon told you about my wings?" she said, turning to Edel. "You must be very special; the more he talks about himself, the more he trusts you. Its so good to see someone bring him out of that shell of his," she explained with a soft smile.
"Aaaand there she goes," Amon thought, cheeks flushing as he once again rolled his eye.
A moment later, the back door opened.
"All tasks completed," Abe reported.
"Ah. Ms. Rebecca is here," Abby noted.
"Yeah, she just randomly popped up," Amon explained. "Also, Abby and Abe, Edel's mom. Ms. Fjäril, Abby and Abe," he said, introducing the pair to Edel's mom and vice versa.
"Greetings Ms. Edelweiss' parental unit," the Twins chimed in unison, Abe simply nodding while Abby curtsied.

Edelweiss couldn't help but let out a soundless giggle of her own. She had on truth referred to her own mother embarrassing him, but if the sentence fit Rebecca too, oh well...
"Yes he did. Though part of it is also I'm accustomed to seeing winged people so the sight is quite normal to me (but your wings are beautiful indeed)." The redhead did get the faintest of pink tints on her cheeks at all that talk about being special and trusted, but the blush faded once she spotted how flustered red Amon himself was. Ok, this was quite adorable. And sweet revenge for all those little times he kept trying to made her blush. Keep doing that, Rebecca, keep at it~ "Oh my, hello." Rose cooed, crouching down slightly to look better at the clockwork twins. "You're so cute~ I feel really tempted to hug you! " "Mom, don't---" "I know, I known, I'm not going to harm them. It's just this feels so nostalgic, I remember back when you were a tiny girl this size and looked like a little doll... But, of course you already had a nose (a really tiny button nose)~" Edelweiss facepalmed. And yes, she's blushing under her hand now.
"Although we do appreciate the compliments..." Abby began.
"...We also appreciate the restraint you have in wanting to hug us," Abe finished.
"Guys..." Amon sighed. Well...at least they were somewhat behaving. As for Edel's current reaction...admittedly, her previous reaction at being trusted and special was much cuter, though he would need to wait and tease her about her childhood photos at a later date.
Rebecca giggled. "Why thank you Edel," she said "Ah, you should really visit us sometime...we have a nice little cottage out in the countryside, plenty of open space and air, beautiful scenery...maybe Amon and I could show you a few aerial tricks~"
"Mom..." he warned. He had taken a brief trip back to his parents place to test out his personal mode of flight, warning them to keep it a secret.
"I know I know...you and your secrets...did your data prove promising? I'll admit, it would be nice to fly with you again..."
"Should be good to go soon. Just some final adjustments are needed."
"Good...just make sure to go out more often...don't want to make your Edel worried now~" she teased, though she seemed to make the implied order more to the Twins than to Amon.
"Not to worry Ms. Rebecca," chimed the Twins, causing Amon to simply shake his head. As if they didn't order him around enough already.
"Hah...if only he had met you sooner," Rebecca said to Edel with a wistful sigh. "Though I'm sure we can trade family pictures when you visit us," she said to Rose.

"That sounds lovely, maybe I'll accept the invitation and pay a visit when I have time." Edelweiss replied to Rebecca with a light smile that gained a little bit of a mischievous tint as she watched Amon and his mother (mainly his mother) talking of his little flight project (which apparently was almost ready). The redhead had yet to see it in person, but even so now she couldn't stop imagining the scene of him rushing towards Rebecca and going 'I can fly now too'. It was both adorable and highly amusing in her mind and she needed a lot of willpower to not start snickering at those thoughts. "And feel free to visit me as well. I can't offer any idyllic scenery beyond my windows, but a nice cup of tea and snacks are still within my possibilities." As for her address, she'd refrain from revealing it on her own since Rebecca seemed as keen on slipping out of sight as Rose is and Edelweiss didn't feel mean enough to incentive that sort of motherly prank on Amon's back (or front, for that matter). So at least on the first time, if Rebecca wishes to visit her she'd have to ask her son for directions.
"Ironically enough, we actually did. But I guess didn't call each other's attention enough to talk sooner... everything happened in its due time. " Ah, that first meeting back at that party where Caitlin almost got married and then orchestrated her own kidnapping to not get married. So much stuff had been going on and all the memory Edelweiss had of Amon from back then was Cait's father having placed him sitting across from her on the table while his arm occasionally twitched and she and Cait whisper-chatted in fancy undertones about the baroness' prospects of fleeing through the window. Talk about the oddest first meeting in history...
Rose didn't see anything wrong with the answers from the twins. If anything, they just seemed a bit more like actual real children in her opinion, with that wary please-don't-touch-me demeanor some kids had towards people they just met. "That sounds more than lovely, yes. I have an album back home that Edel insists should never see the light of day but I don't understand why, she looks adorable in all pictures, and it'd be a delight to exchange some. I bet your son looked just as cute when little."
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
"Ah...yes...he did...still does in fact," Rebecca replied, a little sad. "Unfortunately, we were not able to afford taking many pictures, and of the few we were able to take, we lost most of them in a rather...unfortunate accident," she continued, quickly glancing at Amon at that last statement. They were able to recover a precious few; still, it was quite a sham-
*grugle*
A soft, rumbling sound could be heard. Rebecca turned a slight shade of pink, before rubbing her belly. "My goodness! I didn't realize I was hungry!" she exclaimed with a chuckle. "Ah...there's an idea...instead of going out, I could make something! Think of it as a little celebration of us mothers meeting our children's sweethearts~" she said, giving Edel another soft pinch on the cheek. "And also to see how to stop my son from complaining about Abby's cooking," she continued, giving Amon a pointed look, earning an incredulous shrug from him.
"Oh? Updates to my cooking knowledge?" Abby asked.
"...I'm with Amon here, you're gonna need it," Abe chimed.
"Now now," Rebecca replied, picking the basket of fruit back up and leading the dolls to the back room, glancing back at Amon. "I hope you don't mind me leading your guests into your home..."
"It's fine," Amon said with a shrug. "I never actually got around to showing Edel my place yet, so now's a good time as any. I'll join you upstairs in a bit." He really just never got around to it before; that, and it was exactly the 5 star resort like Edel's place. At least it was clean (thanks Abby!).
"Don't keep us waiting too long~" Rebecca responded, leading the way through the back room. Though there was some organization, it was still fairly messy. The room itself was rather spacious, but it felt cramped due to the amount of stuff in the room. Shelves upon shelves of dolls and clockwork toys occupied most of the walls. What wasn't occupied by shelving was occupied by numerous schematics; some were of various clockwork mechanisms, but a majority seemed to be about human anatomy. Add to the fact that various human-like limbs and bodies were piled here and there, and you'd have a rather disturbing setting. Though Rebecca merely strode on, completely unfazed by the atmosphere, humming a tune as she passed a roll top desk and onwards to a set of stairs in the back.
At the top was a medium-sized studio apartment. There really wasn't much; a bed towards the front, next to the front window, a nightstand next to it and sizable dresser next to that; a hamper stood a few feet from the foot of the bed, next to a door leading to a simple bathroom; next to that, the fridge and simple stove, countertop, and sink combo, right next to a small pantry; at approximately the center and a little left of the room was a simple dining table; along the same wall as the door, was a large wardrobe. It was small, and could be considered cramp, but it was home.
"Well, now, where to start?" Rebecca pondered, setting down the basket of fruit on the table, and began rummaging her way through the pantry, instructing the dolls to see what the fridge held for her.

Edelweiss couldn't help but wonder how Abe could agree with Amon about Abby's cooking when he also was not able to taste anything (due to being a clockwork doll and all that). Or had Amon actually managed to make his dolls able to taste food? Little doubts that might never see the light of day. Tagging along Rebecca into the shop's backroom, the sight around felt somewhat nostalgic to the redhead. It was messier than anywhere she had seen not counting the Hovel, but held a mild resemblance to the crafting area at the CS Stars, as most toy shops probably did - the charts and shelves and toys everywhere, just exchanging all the metal in those doll parts for china and wood, and cogs and gears for ball-joints and strings (plus the charts would have needles stuck to them like one might see in a darts board). She could almost imagine Free wobbling around trying to balance a pile of boxes taller than himself and whine-asking her "Where should I put theeEEeEese--- Oops." and Mer just watching from the corner. The memory left a bitter taste in her mouth. Edelweiss subtly shook her head to send it away and just followed Amon's mother as she had reached a set of stairs. The place upstairs was so, so, so... tiny and cute. Yes, really tiny and cute (and more organized than she expected), and she needed to make some effort to not coo at it like her own mother would.
And oh right, Rebecca and the twins were busy going to cook still. Just standing there and watching would be awkward... "Do you want help?"
----
Rose glanced at Edel and Rebecca leaving, then back at Amon who for some reason didn't tag along them yet, and then she figured she could stay put for a little longer too. Why, it was a nice chance for her to have a few minutes alone with her daughter's boyfriend so she could ask him some questions. "Since Edel mentioning you and the twins is true, I'm assuming the little things about you were true too." She commented with a little smile. "She commented that you try to make her blush but she usually frustates you with that. Do you need some tips?"
"Hm? Oh you don't have to worry dear, just make yourself at home," Rebecca replied, bringing out a pot and filling it with water. "Abby, could you begin cutting the vegetables?"
"Of course," Abby responded, setting about to perform the task.
Meanwhile, Abe simply grunted, positioning himself near the window, closing his eyes to resume his surveillance duties.
---
Amon was in the middle of finishing up some paperwork when Rose approached him. "Eh? Well..." he responded, rubbing the back of his head. "In a sense, I'm just reminding her why she's so special to me...seeing her blush is a bonus," he explained with a sheepish grin. "Truth be told, discovering what makes her blush is half the fun, and helps me understand her more..."
"...though I wouldn't be too adverse to a small hint or two..."

Well, if Rebecca didn't want any assistence, Edelweiss guessed it was time for herself to just sit and watch. It's not like she'd feel at home enough to go exploring every nook and cranny of a room that didn't belong to her while the actual owner isn't present, so she just chose a spot to sit down and watch, trying to guess from there what Amon's mom and the twins were preparing. It wasn't a bad time to pass time either.
----
"Oh? That sounds adorable." Rose said with a chuckle, though she couldn't help but think the teasing her daughter mentioned she kept frustating wasn't exactly the kind Amon is talking about. Unless he has a rather odd sense of humor. "I have to agree Edel looks quite cute when blushing. It's not all that easy of a task though, she's so... not naive when compared to other young girls." She pointed out with a little shake of head and a partially amused smile. "Being really sweet usually works. Or catching her when she's thinking she's said something awkward. Or saying something really awkward yourself. But you of all people probably have the hardest time making her blush; she only does it when is out of her comfort zone, and I never saw her as utterly comfortable as she was around you."
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
Rebecca simply busied herself with the cooking, adding seasonings and the sliced vegetables, giving Abby an order or lesson or two. Once the main ingredients were added, she had Abby set a timer and made her way over to sit next to Edel.
"So...I've been quite curious: how did you two get together? I've already asked Amon once, but you know him, giving nothing but the most vague answers," Rebecca said with a smile, striking a conversation with Edel. Surely there was something about her that caught his eye (and heart), but what about her?
---
Amon couldn't help but chuckle at Rose's comment on Edel's naiveté, or lack thereof. Admittedly, there was a certain charm to innocent girls, but...
"I wouldn't have it any other way," he responded, finishing up some work notes. "The challenge is part of the fun...she's perfect just the way she is. Glad to know I'm heading in the right direction though," he said as he finished up the last of the notes.
"Well now...hopefully my own mother hasn't been giving her own tips upstairs..." he said as he led the way upstairs.

Alright, Edelweiss pondered, now how should she answer Rebecca's question... Not lying was an easy choice, but what needed some thought was how much detail should she omit from it. It didn't surprise her in the least that Amon had been vague about it. "Probably because it's a really strange story..." And could also potentially cause Rebecca to question the sanity of them both. Taking a deep breath, she figured she could tell it about as detailed as she'd told that to her own mother. "I had had a work accident and got injured quite badly, so was recovering at my family's old house, and I was passing most of my time crafting things for the neighborhood kids. Apparently this created some odd rumours about a doll who built dolls, and Amon came by following the gossip. He lockpicked my door and started wandering through the house. I thought he was a thief, bolted from my bed and slammed him against the wall. Then we had a couple awkward seconds recognizing whom each other was. My stitches ruptured and Abby helped redoing them for me. A short while later a couple of my guild workers came by and brought doughnuts. We chatted some until they had to leave, and then your son invited me for dinner." She finished with a shrug. It was a strange story. Extremely strange story. But at least the redhead had cut off any actual embarrassing, dangerous or bound-to-secrecy bits, and Rebecca wouldn't be able to complain of her having been vague. Although she did not hide the fact Amon had lockpicked her door; that had not been nice.
----
"Now now dear, you can't stop mothers from mother-ing, it's our nature." Rose replied with a snicker. "I think you're on the right track, yes. You look like a nice lad, and Edel treasures you a lot. Though I have to ask, what's your last name? That's one of the things she never told me." And there they started walking again. Dear heavens, that backroom was quite messy. Were all sellers like that, she wondered...
Rebecca blinked. "...I know you said 'dolls,' but did that rumor have anything to do with 'clockwork dolls?'" she asked with a sigh.
"Affirmative," replied Abby.
"Yup," replied Abe.
"Honestly..." Rebecca said, sighing once more. "I know his 'information looting' habit was curbed after finally creating Abby and Abe, but I had hoped that it was cured. There really is no stopping that boy when he hungers for information, but it was only a matter of time before he got himself in trouble."
"Well...I'm sure he already has apologized, but allow me to apologize once more...though I am glad that you two were able to resolve that issue," she said with a smile.
"Ah, you said you were injured? How are you now? Did Abby do a good job? And well...that's it? You must've made an impression on him to make him fall completely head over heels for you," she said, giving Edel's cheek another little pinch.
---
Amon stopped at the head of the stairs upon being asked about his last name.
"I..." he started. Well...he did tell Edel...at the same time though, the less who know, the better...
Still...this was Edel's mom...and this question will pop up again if he just brushed it aside.
"Sorry," he said, turning back to look at Rose with a bit of a small smile. "It's a bit of a...sensitive subject, but...I don't have one. In short, we (my mother and I) don't have exactly the most positive feelings for my birth father. Not to cast us in a bad light, but...let's just say my birth was the light in a fairly dark event," he continued with that same smile.
His mom seemed to have made a friend in Edel's mom, and he knew the implications of not having a last name. The last thing he wanted was to make Rose think it was a mistake to interact with them.

"It's alright." Edelweiss told simply, along an amused small laugh as Rebecca apologised in her son's behalf for lockpicking her door. "Being frank, even if he hadn't apologized back then, I think the fright I gave him was enough to make us even for the little 'invasion'." What with having a spatula pressed against his neck and all that... "Besides it's not like he stole nor broke anything," Not counting her stitches. "so I never considered that an actual issue. That house is tad gloomy I admit, and the lights weren't working, it wasn't his fault thinking it was abandoned."
"But anyway - yes, I'm all healed and good as new now, thanks for your concern. Abby was an exemplary sweet nurse." She smiled and nodded. She still had the scar as proof of the stabbing event, a thin diagonal line running the side of her waist, but even that seemed to be fading nicely and probably would be gone without a trace in a year or two. Then at that last comment of Rebecca's she couldn't help but chuckle again. "Well... that's it for the first time he asked me out. But it wasn't the first time we met."
----
"It seems like I embarrassed him...", Rose thought. She knew there were things her daughter didn't tell her, either because didn't find 'safe' or outright couldn't, she's not that clueless. But she hadn't thought Amon's family name would have been one of those things. So he actually didn't have one... Watching him hesitating and then giving that little rambling as explanation to her, Rose in part felt guilty for having even asked - but the other half of her was glad she did. It was important for a mother to know regarding whoever her daughter is dating.
"Hm, well I guess there's only one question this brings up then..." The older redhead commented with a faint smile that was both apologetic and curious - and maybe a little bit amused. They're likely not thinking of the same 'implications' right now. "...Does this mean if you and my daughter get married in the future, you'll be getting her last name rather than the inverse thing?" Oh this was an amusing thought for her indeed.
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
Abby curtsied at Edel's compliment. "It is good to hear that your recover is going well," she replied.
"Indeed," Rebecca said, nodding at Abby. "Still...asking you out after the first date..." she continued clicking her tongue. "Love at first sight does not always turn out so well...but I'm glad it's worked out for the two of you," she said with a warm smile.
"So...what's this story of how you two first met?" she asked, eager for the information Amon tended to keep away in the recesses of his mind.
---
Amon flushed up a bit and turned away at the mention of marriage. It was true he loved her...and while marriage was a possibility, it was merely a thought he entertained every so often as a distant goal.
"...I guess so..." he said, a dazed look appearing on his face as the thought was brought further to the forefront of his mind than ever before. He gave his head a little shake, recovering a bit from the spell.
"Let's rejoin the others, shall we?" he said as he continued up the stairs.
