Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Open to Edelweiss Fjäril, takes place before The Harrowing Masquerade Rebecca hummed to herself an absent-minded tune, a little skip in her step as she made her way through the Merchant's District. It had been quite some time since she had been in the city, and despite the protests of Harold and her son (what with the increased security and Ander hunt) she just had to see the district again.
Plus they were having a sale...not that it mattered with the pass Amon gave her, but still, it was the experience that counts.
So there she was, exploring the various shops, her hair tied up and hidden under a bonnet to hide its silvery sheen. There really shouldn't be anyone around to recognize her (minus the shopkeepers) so as long as she stayed away from anyone in military uniform, she should be okay.
"Maybe I should visit his shop~" she thought with a smile as she passed by a fruit stand, stopping to observe their wares. "Or maybe I should keep it a secret...darn son of mine is more worrisome than I ever was..."

"This place is so crowded", Rose thought while looking around, stopping at some quaint little stand to check their fruits and see if there were any good ones she could use to make jam... And a puzzled look took over her face as she realized she barely knew half of those fruits. As long as they were still open enough to breathe, she rather liked crowded spaces; a person's attention to strangers around them was inversely proportional to the amount of people present, and with how many there were in this place there was no one to stop her for anything... except maybe her daughter, but it seemed like Rose had sucessfully lost her in the crowd. At last. Back when Edelweiss had been a little girl, Rose always made sure to be by her side and not leave her alone on the street, but now it seemed like the roles were inverted and whenever her daughter knew she was around finding some time to walk on her own was an epic quest. A small smile appeared on her lips at that thought. They were both bundles of worry, but for completely different things.
Another woman approached the same stand she was looking at, and Rose looked at her. Their looks seemed to contrast a little, though not much - her own red hair (which was just starting to show a few white streaks here and there) tied up in a rather ornate braid bun. This other lady seemed quite nice at a first glance, and she figured maybe she could ask for some advice for her dessert plans. "Good morning."
"Hm?" Rebecca looked up. Oh, it was just another patron...a kindly female one at that. Her slight androphobia was almost completely gone, but some scars still ran a little too deep; plus, she hated the feeling.
Regardless, it was nice and refreshing to get out and meet new people...even if she was going to get an earful from Harold and (eventually) Amon.
"Good morning," she said with a smile. "What brings you to the district this morning?"

"Oh, groceries, and a bit of a need to prove my daughter I can walk around on my own for half an hour." She replied with a casual tone and a bit of a resigned chuckle, like who's saying 'Children nowadays...'. The other lady had actually seemed to be starting a conversation, or at least be willing to have one rather than just greeting-goodbye, which was a relief - it'd be a bit awkward to just ask about fruits out of the blue if neither of them work at the stand. "And you?"

"A bit of the same, though I have a son and not a daughter," Rebecca replied with a chuckle. "Honestly, we were the ones to keep an eye on them growing up, and now it's their turn to look out for us. Is this what it was like for them growing up? If so, karma has an odd sense of humor," she continued, shaking her head. So this woman had a daughter...it's a pity she couldn't play a little match making, but at least Amon got himself a wonderful girl...
Ah, but first...
"I'm Rebecca by the way," she said, offering a handshake.

"So you 'escaped' from your son's ever-watching eyes as well?" Rose asked, quite amused by that. She wondered if her daughter and this woman's son could meet sometime; not that she didn't understand Edelweiss was an adult now and responsible enough to make her own decisions (and sometimes kind of babysit her mother, even), but she rarely got to see any of the people Edel walked with and she could only wonder what kind of company she kept around. Mainly since Edel was quite the tomboy girl. So worrying was kind of unavoidable. "I wonder that too, and if it's normal for all children or just ours. "
She eyed the woman's... Rebecca's offered hand for half a second, but then the curious look became a light smile and she moved a hand of her own to shake. Rose wasn't wearing gloves, but wariness aside, it wasn't like someone would grab her hand and randomly scratch it till it bleeds - therefore just a friendly and safe gesture. "My name's Rose, nice to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine," Rebecca responded in kind. She noted that Rose paused momentarily before taking the handshake...unless...and that hair color...
"So, what is your daughter like?" she asked, keeping the conversation going as she begun to pick out some fruit, pushing aside that nagging itch in the back of her mind for now; a few apples here, a couple of eastern pears there, and...ah! Strawberries! Those were his favorite.
"I'm sure she's a wonderful lady, to be constantly doting over her mother. I'm sure her father must be busy trying to keep the boys away~"

Rose eyed the apples as well, they were looking pretty good and maybe she'd purchase a few, but focusing back on the thought of making jam her eyes wandered to the strawberries, then nearby to that lot of raspberries. Maybe those? Or both, red berries in general sounded like a good idea. "Do you think those look good for making desserts? Have to admit it's been a while since I went for groceries on my own so I got a little rusty..." Then there was the question about Edel and her father shooing boys away, and she gave a bit of an awkward smile. "I've lost my husband it's been a long while, it's my daughter who watches out for me. We're fine now though, and she's responsible enough I don't have to worry much. She's my pride and joy, and a beautiful dainty lady (even though she makes an odd amount of effort to not look the part), but I sometimes fear if she's working too much." It was hard to tell, really. Some younglings these days seemed to think full day shifts and passing out on their desks was a normal day of work. "What about your son?"
----
Edelweiss checked the hours on the clocks of that shop across the street. It had been ten minutes since her mother 'ran away' from her; 99.99% of times Rose tried to sneak away from her sight the younger redhead frustrated those attempts before they even started, but this time she had really managed to slip off. Edelweiss took a deep breath; she had two choices to make here: expend the next hour in a mildly annoying search for her mom, or do the smart thing. So she did the smart thing and turned on her heels to go pay Amon a visit in his shop and ask for a little help. Compared to helping rescuing one of his patrons who'd been possessed by a shadow beast, finding her redhead Ander mother in his District should be reasonably easy of a task.

"Ah yes! I like to make apple pies, but you have to get the right ones, otherwise you'll simply make apple rocks," Rebecca said with a chuckle. At the news of Rose's lost she grew a little somber. "Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss...but I'm glad that you and your daughter are okay," she said apologetically. From what it sounded like, there was no ill will, possibly even a happy relationship. Rebecca couldn't help but feel a little jealous; her own relationship with Harold was a little...complicated. More than friends, less than lovers. Were he younger, she would've gladly courted him...alas, it was too late, even if age didn't have anything to do with it.
A certain someone made sure of that.
She shook her head a little, driving away the unpleasant thoughts. At Rose's question of he own son, she brightened up again. "Oh you know, my own little pride and joy as well. Tall, handsome, brilliant...and I know for a fact he works too much...on one hand, he's not getting into trouble, but on the other hand, I worry that he's not getting out as often," she said with a sigh.
---
"Have a great day!" Amon said, calling after yet another satisfied customer. With a small yawn, he stretched his arm, and made his way around the counter and towards the front door. It was still fairly busy when he walked outside, what with all the sales, but it seemed like business as usual, people still spending their money as if EIRAL looming over them or the fact that there were a few shadow beast attacks didn't happen.
He was just relaxing, taking a brief moment to people watch when he saw a familiar shade of red make their way to his shop.

Rose chuckled at the thought of apple rocks, though to think of it frankly that was an interesting idea to some degree. Edel's guild had a lot of kids, maybe she could make some apple hard candy for them? ...That if her daughter doesn't eat it all on her own instead letting the kids have some. One had to wonder how she managed to love sugar so much, but oh well... "Perhaps we should bring our respective workaholics for groceries again another time. That way they'd be out and not getting in trouble... though at least speaking of my daughter she'd pass the whole time worrying of me getting in trouble instead." Back to those same amusing thoughts from 5 minutes ago while she browsed through the apples and berries and chose which ones to buy.
----
"Good morning." Edelweiss greeted back with a smile of her own, spotting the eyepatched mechanic right outside his shop. Seemed like she wouldn't be interrupting anything, that was relieving. "I know this is -very- random, but I was actually with my mother till a short while ago and she either got lost or sneaked away from me (I'm betting on the second). Can I have some help on finding her?"

Rebecca giggled. "I agree, it would be nice of them to meet." If nothing else, to earn another friend...hopefully Amon's girlfriend wasn't the jealous time. "Though my son would end up worrying more about trouble finding me. I say: get into trouble one time, and I never hear the end of it," she continued, shaking her head.
"So, what type of dessert are you planning to make? I can guess that your daughter has a sweet tooth?" she asked. She didn't want to seem like a bother, but chatting with Rose was nice...it had been a long time since she had friend to talk to.
---
Amon raised an eyebrow. "The same one who thinks I'm a 'figment of your imagination?'" he asked lightly, clicking his mechanical arm, after which a clockwork bird flew down and rested on his shoulder. "I can safely assume that you have her hair?" he asked.
Once he would get confirmation of her description, the bird would take off to the sky to pass its message to the rest of the flock in the district.

"That she does." Rose nodded with a bright smile at the question of her daughter having a sweet tooth. No biggest truth had ever been spoken upon the earth. "I was thinking of red berries jam, mainly, but might make some hard candy with the apples. Maybe get a couple extras to just eat as they are too." Keep on chatting wasn't any bother to her. She didn't leave home often either, even considering any visits to/from Edel, and having another person who wanted to talk to her felt really good - mutual pleasantness and overall making friends feels really nice.
----
"Yes, that one." Edelweiss snickered. "Adding a few streaks of white from age for her, but yes. She likes to doll it up too, so looking for a red fancy braided bun."
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
Red hair, cautious, sweet tooth...a thought slowly dawned onto Rebecca...still, it was better to stay quiet, rather than make quick (and embarrassing) assumptions.
"Oh? Sounds delicious. I myself might make a cake or pudding out of the strawberries...maybe something with peaches," she said, picking up the fruit. "Nice to know that you can make something sweet without having to add too much sugar."
Unbeknownst to the crowd, a clockwork bird was watching the crowd diligently. A moment later, another clockwork bird rested next to it, and began clicking out orders. Immediately, the first bird responded, causing the second bird to fly off again, leaving the first to continue its sentry post.
---
Amon paused for a moment, watching the machine fly away before turning back to Edel. "Well...if your mom is here, maybe this would be the perfect chance to meet and prove I'm the real dea-" he began, only to be interrupted by a clockwork bird flying down. He blinked. "Well that was fast..." he muttered, listening to the machine's report before it flew off again. "And no wonder why: she's just a couple of blocks down-"
"Excuse me deary~"
Amon turned to see a slightly elderly woman approaching him. "I was told that you had some of the best toys in the district, and I was hoping to find something for my grandson..."
"Give me one moment," he replied, giving Edel an apologetic grin. "Sorry, but I need to take care of this. You'll find her at a fruit stand a couple of blocks down," he said, pointing the way. "I'll join up with you when I can, good luck!" he said as he led the patron inside.

To Edelweiss, watching Amon clicking to his clockwork creations was becoming a bit of a familiar sight by now. On one side it was rather impressive, on another it reminded her of those disney fairytale princesses talking to little forest critters... Yeah - despite highly amusing, that thought shall never be spoken aloud. He found her mother really fast too (or well, his mechanical bird did), and she was about to respond to his comment about proving to her mother he actually exists when an elderly woman came over requesting a toy for her grandkid. Oops, guess it was his work time still and good ol' Rose would have to fare thinking of the eyepatched mechanic as Edel's imaginary friend for a little longer. "Alright, thanks." She relented after a soundless snicker, turning to follow the directions she'd been given. "Have fun at work, I'll see you later."
----
And truthfully she didn't have to walk for long before spotting Rose talking to another woman in front of the fruits stand, a bag of purchased good already in her hands. Deep breath. At least she seemed alright. The younger redhead walked up to where the two were, circling the stand to stop next to Rose and greeted her with a calm and simple "Hi mom." Rose let out a tiny eeked "Eep!" surprised noise before turning away from the chatter of sugar and desserts enough to see her, and Edelweiss had to lift a hand to hide the guilty half-smile that started to form on her face due to that. "That was quick. Too quick. I should buy a hat too." That last line was thought after a glance to Rebecca. "Edel, one of these days you'll give me a heart attack." "...Like the one you almost gave me earlier with randomly disappearing?" She asked while raising an eyebrow, and Rose didn't counter that. They were even now. "Fair enough, but it's not like I would be in a pinch so easily, you know." "Mom, remember the last time you did that? And walked into that bookstore?" And then got an ungodly deep papercut while browsing the books and they both passed a couple very awkward minutes trying to cover it and assuring anyone passing by that everything was fine. And even if Rose didn't remember, Edelweiss still did. Minor things like that could easily escalate and she'd rather it doesn't. "Sigh... One would think I'm your child instead of the inverse thing... Oh, but don't be rude and greet your mommy's new friend too." She stated in a little brighter note, stepping aside slightly and tugging her daughter to be better within sight. "Rebecca, this is my daughter Edelweiss." "Nice to meet you, madam." She greeted with a friendly smile. Uh, that woman was a little familiar, though Edelweiss couldn't quite place why... Did they meet before somewhere? Or maybe it was the nose.

After discretely "paying" for her fruit, Rebecca turned to see Rose being startled by someone. At first, she started to feel fear welling up inside of her, due to the individual's initial appearance triggering her androphobia, but the more she observed this newcomer, the more fami-
Edel? Oh.
Oh my~
She just happened to run into the mother of her son's sweetheart, Edelweiss. Karma is such a fickle mistress~
And judging by her reaction, she doesn't recognize her at all! Even better!
"The pleasure is mine," Rebecca responded with a smile. "Oh she is just so pretty! I bet you're popular with all the boys~"
