Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Medivha and Edelweiss Fjäril It was mid afternoon when Stephen walked up to a familiar building in the merchant's district. It was owned by that one ornery doctor- heaven help him, he still did not know her name- that he visited a few nights ago. She had mentioned having not read The Merchant of Venice and the very thought appalled him enough to go out and purchased a copy for her. He knocked on her door then stepped back, awaiting to see if she was home.
Yawning, the young doctor had only really been up for an hour or two and wasn’t exactly awake, despite it supposedly being working hours. All the same, she was up, and dressed thankfully, her typical white long sleeve button up and fitted black slacks (she decided to go for the filigree pair today) with her mask strapped securely to her face. Lazily, she made her way to the door, stretching out and cracking her neck tiredly as she tugged it open, blinking unseen at the person on the otherside. Who was this guy? If he was a customer she presumed he would just walk in since it was work hours. auburn hair, blue eye, eye patch? surely she would remember someone with an eye patch right?
Vieka scratched the side of her mask as she peered over the male. “Can i help you?”

The noble blinked at the masked figure in front of him and frowned. "I would ask who you are but I recognize your voice, though it is muffled by that.... odd contraption on your face," he hesitantly added, narrowing his eyes at said mask. He stood for a moment, looking most unimpressed with her attire before tapping his foot and adding, "Well, are you going to invite me in like a proper hostess or shall I stand here all day? I brought you something," he held up the book and waved it a little for emphasis.
"You can stand there all day." She replied bluntly, promptly shut the door in his face. She glared at the door, a rather unimpressed look painting her features from underneath the mask that the noble had been scrutinizing seconds ago, unwilling to deal with his sass.... wait, pause, rewind. Dung, that was the noble who had been bleeding out on her doorstep a few days back wasn't it? The shadow cat. Letting out a groan and a string of curses, Vieka questioned why she made it a personal rule to always finish what she started as she yanked the door back open again.
"You're not bleeding again are you?" She asked grouchily, acting as if she totally didn't just slam the door in his face 20 seconds ago.

She actually closed the door; he could not believe. The shock was probably the reason for him to stand their dumbly outside of her door rather than storming off in a huff. Moments later the door was opened once again and now she was asking about his well being. This woman was infuriatingly confusing, "Do I look like I am gushing blood, woman?" He snapped as he stepped forward, letting himself in whether she like it or not. "Thanks to you I feel much better this morning- Or at least I did till you slammed that door in my face. If this is how you treat all your patrons I do not think your business will last long, no matter how skilled you are."
"please, come right on in, make yourself at home!" She drawled in irritable sarcasm, half slamming the door shut behind him after the noble barged past. With patients like these, who needs enemies? sighing grouchily, she followed after the male and then past him towards the kitchen. If she's going to have to deal with snot nosed nobles acting as if they own the place, the winged ander is going to need copious amounts of caffeine in her system.
"And if i don't stay in business it isn't any skin off my back, for your information. The only reason this place is running in the first place was because too many people kept coming to my old man's place and it wasn't fair on him. I didn't want to run my own clinic." the woman growled, lighting up the stove and putting on a kettle of water while before rummaging around for her coffee pot. "Now if you haven't re-opened your wounds and you're not bleeding to death, pray tell why are you bothering me in the middle of the dratted day? -coffee?" She held up the silver coffee pot for him to see, looking through the different coffee's she had all the while.
She could have really used a few more hours of sleep.

It was not without receiving some odd looks that Edelweiss crossed the streets of the Merchants District - much less about herself and more for what she was carrying. The toddler in her arms watched everything around - all the gadgets and displays of tech - with a mix of wariness and wonder. It was a really small boy, around 3 to 4 years old at most, clearly Ander and much thinnier than would be healthy. The clothes seemed at least two sizes too big for his frame, but at least he was clean now. Finally reaching the entrance to the pharmacy she'd been looking for, Edelweiss moved his small weight to be held in only one of her arms before knocking at the door and pushing it open.
"Excuse me, are you open?" She asked while looking around for somewhere to sit down, and her gaze zeroed in between Stephen and the masked woman. Vieka. "...Wow, this is surely a small world." The child's bandaged wings flared open in fright at the sight of that black plague mask. Bad idea. He curled them tight against his own back with a whimper.

"You are by far the most peculiar doctor I have ever met," he mused after listening to her life story with a frown; and here she was again, offering him a drink after venting about her problems. This was only the second time that it had happened but it seemed like a time old tradition already. "Are you some sort of caffeine addict? I get the feeling that you might have a problem," he quipped with a hint of a smirk, quirking an eyebrow at her.
His attention was directed at her new customer who just so happened to be the charming Edelweiss. "Fancy meeting you here," upon sight of the child his frowned deepened significantly. "What happened to him? Will he be alright," he questioned, eyeing the boy's bandaged wings and frail stature with sympathy. Nothing but a damper on his day like seeing a wounded ander- winged anders especially.
Vieka turned and poked her head out of the kitchen, but it took mere seconds before her entire body stiffened up like a cat whose hackles were raised when she saw the two figures at her door. "Tell me you did not just drag an injured Anderswelter child into my clinic, in broad. daylight." She hissed darkly, her tone getting across how very much unhappy she was with this situation where her expression could not. "Tell me you're really not that stupid!"
In the back of her head, she vaguely recognized the pinkette, but it was certainly not her first concern right now. A quick glance at the window and a peek at the only working clock in the house, tucked into the corner, revealed it was only a little past 3. Plenty of people would still be roaming the merchant districts streets. Perfect. just what she bloody well needed.

Stephen instantly jumped to Edelweiss's defense: "Some do not have the luxury of waiting for when it would be safe from prying eyes to come here so her actions are more desperate than idiotic. I would say that healing an ander child might help increase your revenue but you have an evident disregard for your business- I am also starting to question your moral code given your reaction. Edelweiss is the head of CAEsAL entertainment and it is a known fact that there are children who perform with set wings; so one might just suppose that this child was injured at practice," this was a shake excuse at best but all that really worked for the situation. "If not I am sure it would do you no harm what-so-ever to have support from the head of CAEsAL- something that you might just lose if you continue to disrespect her," he finished quietly but his voice hinted towards how displeased he was with the whole situation.
It peeved him to no end that Vieka had insulted Edelweiss but her displeasure was not unjust; doctors who healed anders always ended up having a bad reputation in the general population of Lodan; but Vieka did not strike him as a person who really cared about the reputation of her business nor was she someone who seemed cruel enough to turn Edel away but she must have had more reason than just fear of being blacklisted in mind. Than again, who knows; he had barely met the woman.

Edelweiss sighed "...Thank you for the concern, Stephen, it's apreciated, but you can calm down."
"I'll reply to you both in order: a bunch of thugs wanted to 'turn him human', which is just another way to say they were trying to cut his wings off; he got quite a few feathers teared off plus some bruises and a couple reasonably deep cuts at the shoulderblade areas. Technically I carried him here, not dragged, and certainly am not stupid. This place is the third one I tried, because the people I usually take kids to were too busy and I looked after the services heresince you've healed one of my friends before." She made sure to put extra attention on all the words while speaking. And second what she knew, the damage aforementioned worker *cough*Stephen*cough* had sustained should have been fairly worse than he actually had when she had actually seen him, which should mean something wasn't exactly 'orthodox' in the manner how the masked woman treated her patients. Who was an Ander to refuse healing another Ander for being Ander? Though as hypocritical that might sound, Edelweiss could still understand where Vieka's line of thought and complaints were coming from. Lodan could be really cruel in that aspect.
"He's already unmagically patched up to the best of my ability, all I came to get is some painkillers since those I didn't have." And there was a limit to how many Deceit casts she could use as pain-reliever in a single say. Getting magic-depleted wouldn't be smart in her line of work either. "So if you're worried about your reputation, don't be - I walked inside with a bandaged child, and I'll leave with a bandaged child. Even if you agree to help, no one has to know."
Her masked face snapped in the direction of the male, and if she weren't wearing the leather you would see her eyes flash like thunder, her expression anything but pleasant. She had half a mind to take the coffee pot in her hand and use it to smack him upside the head, and anger coursed through her veins like wild fire. 'He knows nothing.' He has no right to judge her.
If Edel hadn't spoken up, there was a very good chance the doctor might have thrown something at them before kicking the two members of CAEsAL out of her place all together. "Fine. I'll take a look at the kid, then i want all of you gone." she hissed, taking a deep breath and clenching her hands into fists to stop the shaking. Vieka turned on heel and headed back to her kitchen, only pausing at the door briefly, her eyes trained forward as she left one final comment.
"My tongue will tell the anger of my heart, or else my heart concealing it will break." She murmured quietly before leaving the two to their own devices while she gathered the needed supplies.

Wow. Vieka is grumpIER than Stephen. That was a first, but somehow, despite the obvious display of frustrated anger she had still agreed to help, and Edelweiss couldn't help but feel a little amused by that... By that -and- by that quote. Now she understood why Stephen was standing there holding that book while he didn't seem to be really physically hurt at the present moment.
So the redhead woman just waited and watched with a small smile forming on her lips.

Stephen did as his guild leader said and took a deep breath, trying to qualm his anger and managed to tone it down to minor annoyance. In control of his emotions once again, the noble pointedly refrained from looking at Vieka as a displeased frown sat on his face, not really caring to make eye contact with the source of his troubles at the moment; But when the angry doctor complied to their demands then requested their intimidate exit afterwards he turned back to glare at her as his temper threatened to flare once again. It was nice that she had agreed to help but she could at least try to be civilized and not toss them out onto the streets once it was all said and done.
In fact, he was just about to say as much until he heard her quietly muttered words. He opened his mouth then closed it, blinking in shock as he watched her disappear into the kitchen. Did she really just quoted a line from "The Taming of the Shrew" - the very line that he had said to her the last time - or had he imagined it. Upon glancing over at Edel, the pleased look on her face confirmed that he had not been the only one to hear those quiet but powerful words. This put a damper on things because he wanted to be angry with her but after hearing that all he could feel was a bit impressed and something else. With a confused sigh, he turned and sat in a chair near the corner, a mopey look on his face but he was content to just be quiet as his anger fizzled out.
Now thankfully out of eyesight, the half breed took a few moments to concentrate on her breathing and try to calm down, only resulting in making herself frustrated as she thumped her coffee pot down on the side. Running her gloved hand through her hair roughly, Vieka clicked her tongue before starting to move around the kitchen, purposefully taking her sweet time in gathering the needed supplies so she would have at least some time to cool off. She should make tea too. tea always calms her down. But she also needed coffee to stay awake... Screw it, she'll make both, they can wait. and not have any. ha! sweet revenge.
