The moment Lasair mentioned trees Viktor had a feeling he knew where the story was going and when it came, he closed his eyes and exhaled calmly through his mouth before withdrawing his hand from Lasair's in order to try and grab the other and pull him closer to hold. Usually social, the mechanic was not good with depressing topics and so wasn't sure what to say, not to mention the alcohol and drugs still in his system did little to help. The silence that fell over him was suddenly broken and the sadness replaced by fear as his heart skipped a beat. In the distance he could hear foot steps on the stairs and immediately straightened up to snatch the lantern. Since Lasair had opened it to expose it to the breeze earlier, it was quicker to access the flame and put it out. Who knew if a friend or foe was approaching and given their gender and position, it could be more of a potential enemy. Setting down the lantern slowly so it would be silent upon touching the crate, his hand then went for the dagger NK-5 had handed him earlier.
The steps stopped once the light went dead and the mechanic held his breath at that. When he thought they were gone and that he may have been imagining things, the foot steps returned but at a quicker pace. Whatever or who ever was coming was urgent now. The arm still wrapped about Lasair tightened while Viktor studied the steps where the stairs reached the top. Moments later, the sounds were louder and then an approaching figure silhouetted in the darkness appeared with glowing eyes. Another Ander? No, no, that was a familiar shape.
"Nikolai? Nikolai! What the f--"
"I had a speculation that the light in the window was from you," came the reply, interrupting Viktor before the obscene word left him.
"You almost gave me a drated heart attack! Why are you even here? For the love of..." Releasing Lasair, the red head placed the dagger back into its hiding place then ran his hands through his hair, knocking off the bandanna in the process. "Lasair, this is my brother Nikolai. Nikolai, this is Lasair." The glowing effect of the eyes faded leaving behind the appearance of normal human eyes as NK-5 stepped closer.
"Dreadfully sorry for frightening you both. The pleasure is mine." The doll took another step closer and then stopped when Viktor raised his hand. "Stop. Magic. Remember, you're allergic."
"I cannot forget." In the slight moonlight, Lasair could see that Nikolai appeared human with flesh, eyes, clothe, and hair. However, there was something off putting about him. Although his eyes appeared realistic, they had a glassy sheen to them and he certainly blinked far less than what was considered normal. His lips moved but very minimally as though he were mumbling rather than speaking fully. With a sigh, Viktor extracted himself and stood wobbly before stumbling toward the doll.
((With the new disguise, Viktor went back and gave NK-5's outer shell an overhaul so he could look less like a soldier and more passable as human when he put skin over his body. The eyes and mouth were part of the upgrade to outer appearance by simply adding on hinges and shutters where was necessary. Simple adjustments that when covered by faux skin and minimal movement in the lips, are passable in appearance. For anyone who stumbles on this and wonders how it works. There is still something certainly off about him and in daylight, it's easier to recognize. Nothing on the interior, or what actually makes NK-5 function was changed so I felt this was okay.))
