Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"First time for everything," he replied in response to the 'never been'. At the inquiry of flammable item, he removed his arm from Lasair to pat himself and nearly dropped the pastries in the process. He wasn't drunk, no, but he was a bit tipsy and that made him clumsy. "Nope! But I think there are lanterns inside still." Eager to see if that was true, he skipped up the stairs and set the box down then pushed on the heavy door of the clock tower to shove it open. Inside it was pitch black and Viktor groaned. It was almost embarrassing how afraid he was of the dark but his mind always went to shadow beasts when he thought of it. Scooping up the pink box once more, he glanced back at Lasair then drew in a breath through his nostrils before forcing himself to take the step inside. Reaching out with a hand, he fumbled around the wall until his fingers brushed over one of the few lanterns left in the room. Snatching it, he quickly ran back out, nearly tripping over his feet as he did, and then offered it to Lasair. "So, uh, I think I have my lighter." He patted himself down and then froze. Nope, he'd forgotten it. "drat... Never mind. I think I lost that when I lost my dignity."

He followed the man towards the dark door and then watched with curiosity as he went inside, only to return moments later with a lantern, as well as a fearful look on his face. The red head just stood there, looking kind of smug, while he looked for his lighter. When he came up empty handed, he stepped forward and took the portable light source, continuing to stand close to Viktor as he did so. He brought his left hand to his mouth, pulling off the glove with his teeth. No, he wasn’t hiding claws under there, like many gloved people did. Brining his free hand to the lantern, he snapped his fingers, causing a magical spark to appear. It only took a moment for the spark to jump into the lantern, causing it to light up. “Der uu go,” he mumbled, glove still clenched in his teeth as he offered the lantern back to him.

Viktor's brows knitted together as he watched what the other was doing and then his brows shut up and his face lit with amusement and surprised. In a way he was sort of envious of Ander's and magic but he wasn't sure if he could give up a life without tech either. Gently accepting the lantern back, he brought it to face level and eyed the lit wick before lowering it. "Yeah, that does it. I think I like magic. Say, uh, you wouldn't mind doing that again to light our smoke when we get up, would you?" He passed a quick glance at Lasair then nodded for him to follow him inside the door. The sparse light of the lantern cast rather sharply contrasting shadows of everything inside both on the floor and the walls. To one side was the stairs and he paused to look back at Lasair before smiling reassuringly then took the first few steps up the stairs. "Watch your step, okay?" He took his steps slow to allow Lasair light to follow him.

Lasair laughed at his comment and followed him into the building, slipping the glove into his pocket as he did so and taking the other one off too. “Sure I can handle that.” Pausing a moment, he returned to a previous question. How he remembered it in his drunk state was anyone’s guess. “Magic’s like another sense. I can feel it around me and sometimes control it, if I’ve had the right training. There’s a lot of different types of magic but I only know a small handful right now. That spark was one of them, really comes in handy.” He didn’t really like how dark the shadows were away from the light so kept pace with the other man, possibly getting a bit too close for comfort, but their comfort was already established to be quite different from the norm.

If Viktor did not happen to be carrying a box and the lantern, he would have been reaching back to feel for Lasair in reassurance that he wouldn't just suddenly vanish so certainly did not mind that the other red head was following closely. "Not exactly a romantic trek, huh," he teased gently to make light of the mood. On occasion as the ascended there were spots where they could peer out into the city below and that allowed for the soft light emitting from the streets to slip in though it did little to help. For most of the duration of the long climb Viktor was silent. "Is that really what it's like? Something else you can just feel then? That's rather odd. Does it hurt any to use magic," he finally spoke up as they reached the top.

From over the mechanic’s shoulder, Lasair spoke, each word being rather close to the other man’s ear. “Romance is relative. This isn’t so bad,” he said in just above a whisper, reaching out to grab his shoulder and hang onto that as they climbed. He didn’t pay much mind to the spots where they could look out into the city, instead favoring the task of studying the back of Viktor’s head. Or as much as he could in the darkness. Coming to the top was when Lasair finally looked out, a goofy grin lighting his features. “Wow this view is amazing. Oh uh. Yeah I just feel it. And no it don’t hurt unless I try to use too much of it. Wow though everything looks great up here,” he stared out for a moment more before turning to face Viktor. “Especially you.”

Was that slight darkness rising to his cheeks? It might have been but in the poor lighting who could really be sure. A grin replied to Lasair's words as Viktor turned to face him fully as he set the lantern down on a nearby crate. With one hand free, he took the other's hand that had been on his shoulder and draws him away from the stairs to get a closer look at the outside from the open panel of the clock tower. Next, he looked around to set the pastries down and then held Lasair on either side much like he did in the district when he first pointed out the tower. "You're too nice, you know? Ain't used to compliments like that. Do you see all that darkness out there to the right? That's the ocean there. The sea port is down there and then the sky port." He pointed over Lasair's shoulder to each place. "To the left is the theatre district. That's the palace there. You can see the railroad kind of and there's the EIRAL headquarters. Behind us is the Merchant district." Releasing Lasair, he moved closer to the edge then sat down and dug around for a blunt he'd made earlier thinking he'd only have it for himself but it was much nicer knowing he'd be able to share it. "Want the first honors," he asked lifting the stick of wrapped herbs to the other. "I think it'd be fair since you're the one that has to light it. Here, come sit next to me." With his words Viktor patted the spot beside him.

He remained wide-eyed and grinning as Viktor came up close again; Lasair found himself leaning against him slightly, listening with extreme interest as he explained the sights around them. When the human sat down it took the ander a moment to join him, staring at the scenery once more before taking his eyes off it. As he approached the edge and looked over, he suddenly didn’t trust his drunken self to stand so close to it. So a free hand found itself on Viktor’s shoulder as Lasair sat down rather close to the other man. ‘I won’t let you fall’ he had said, so the fiery haired one would hold him to that. Once he actually sat down, he accepted the blunt and held it in his hands carefully, surveying it. “Man it’s been a while.” Bringing it up to his mouth, he snapped his left hand once again to light it, inhaling as soon as the flame caught. He tried to hold his breath but quickly failed, coughing as he handed the thing away.

The bandanna wearing red head didn't seem to mind their close proximity in the slightest as Lasair sat beside him. The entire time Lasair was looking out into the city and then busying himself with the blunt, Viktor was simply watching him and smiling before a chuckle was brought out of him. "Been awhile? Have you ever smoked one of these before," he asked as he accepted the blunt back then brought it to his own lips to take a quick drag. The resulting smoke wasn't thick from how lightly he had puffed but he offers it back to Lasair afterwards. "Start small. Suck in your breath so it only fills your mouth and you don't get it in your lungs. Otherwise it burns and you cough like that. And, uh, if you see anything don't chase it."

His mouth formed a lopsided grin as he accepted the bundle of plant material back, but didn’t take a drag right away. “Had it once or twice a while back. Never been a regular user. Gives for some wild rides.” Bringing it to his lips, he inhaled some of the smoke again, trying to hold it in his mouth but failing again as he sputtered it out, but not as violently as before. “Why’d you adopt this stuff?” he asked after recovering, staring out at the city before looking towards him.

Accepting the blunt again, Viktor gave a shrug in reply while grinning at Lasair's coughing. "Dunno. I was younger and dumber. Don't do it as often anymore but every now and then I like to enjoy the wild trips. Let me tell you though, if you've ever had someone beat the dung out of you, smoke one of these and you won't feel it anymore," he chuckled as he lifted the blunt a little to emphasis what he meant by 'one of these'. His eyes glanced over the city once more as he took a longer inhale this time causing the end of the bundled herbs to burn a touch brighter than before. When he pulled it away, the plume was thicker and fuller as he blew it away from the other. Sniffling lightly then clearing his throat, he offers the drug back to his companion. "Look at all those weird lights," he mumbled though the lights were the same as they had been as when they first got up.

Lasair nodded along as Viktor explained, it was reason enough, and it’s not like this stuff was such a bad habit. He’d seen some really bad addicts in his day; those were never fun to be around. Continuing the cycle, take, inhale, pass, he only coughed lightly this time, really more like a wheezing. The effects of the smoke were kicking in, sending him to an even odder state of mind when paired with the alcohol. “They look like they’re gonna pop out of your eyes,” he said, finding himself swaying slightly as he stared at Viktor.

Viktor was already reaching over for the box of pastries when the blunt was returned back to him. He paused to set the pink package on his lap then took the wrapped herbs to take one last puff before offering it to Lasair. As he spoke, smoke trailed out of his mouth and nose, "You can have the last, and don't they? Maybe those are our eyes. Want a croissant?" Whether Lasair was going to say yes or no, the mechanic was already shoving one at the other while biting into one for himself. While chewing, he said something else but it was horribly incoherent.

Last puff? So soon? It felt like he had just taken the first one. Either way, he took one last long hit, feeling his eyes start to water from the smoke, before dripping the remains of it behind him. Taking the baked good he immediately bit into it, ripping half of it off and munching a moment. “What did ya say?” he asked, although it was slightly muffled. And slurred. And his head felt like it was swimming. Yet he could not deny that he felt like he was floating in the air. Or maybe it was the water. The rest of the croissant was devoured as he debated his exact state of mind.

"I said," he took another bite of his croissant, muffled his words while he chewed, swallowed, and tried again. "Have you ever swam under the moon naked? It's nice." Viktor leaned against the wall and blinked his eyes slowly a few times while he studied the strange things appearing all over the city. He fell quiet soon after for some time as he directed his attention to Lasair. As a few moments pass, he started to snicker but said nothing while staring at the other then shook his head. Without a word, he set the remaining half of his pastry down and reached out to slowly grab for Lasair's head if he'd let him so he could simply pat the sides of his head and be sure it was still there. "It's been awhile since I last smoked that stuff," he admitted.
