Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"I'm here because he-" Leo stopped. Was he really here just because his brother wanted to be? After the two of them heard about this place Emelo was the first to try and find out more, after all he was in it for all the learning and books this place was supposed to have, but Leo... He wasn't here for that, in fact he could care less about the books and obviously didn't care to much for the learning either since that would mean he would need to read said books. No... He wasn't here for that, so... Why was he... He stood in front of the man and pondered the question for a moment before the answer came to him. "I'm here because of our mother." Leo said as he looked up towards the man, "I'm here to become stronger, learn how to manage and control my magic, and beat the bumrag who think they are better than Anders. I'm here to fight for a death that shouldn't have happened!" Leo said with determination and fire in his eyes, he was ready to fight.

Nodding, the man in the fox mask began his pacing around Leo, beginning to concentrate his magic but not actually making it visible. He had finally answered the question, good. He had motivation; a drive. Something the other brother lacked, or at least hid well. “How would you be useful? Again, just you. Alone. On your own. And what if you get separated from your brother? Could you still work for us? What if you’re accepted into our ranks and he’s not?” The questions were rapid fire, no time for him to answer. But as the smooth voice ended, silence ensnared instead. It was up to the boy to answer how he would.

Leo's mouth fell open slightly as the man threw one question after another. Closing his mouth Leo thought over the questions, trying to remember them all. Leo didn't like how this guy kept talking as though his brother wasn't here, the whole point of this was so the two of them could get in, not just one of them. As he went over the questions in his mind he realized he didn't like the last question the man said, "Well I guess you'd get neither of us then." Leo said as he stared at the man, "The two of us have always been together and that's just how it will always be. You can asked the question again but I'll answer it the same way. If he's not in then neither am I. We're all or nothing, there is no such thing as one or the other with us." Leo said as he removed he hands from his pockets and crossed his arms. "You ask how I could be useful? Why should I tell you? For all you know whatever I would say could be a lie. The only way to find out for sure would be to accept us and find out." Leo added with a straight face. He knew in reality what he just said could get his head chopped off but everything that he did say was true, so why lie.

The fox mask tilted to the side, a confused expression. But the mouth formed into a scowl. Wrong answer. “If you cannot answer the question, then you have nothing to offer. We have no desire to ‘find out’ your abilities. We don’t take in strays. If you’re of no use to us, you’re not accepted. It’s as simple as that.” He paused, talking a step towards Leo and looking down on him. “And if that’s the case, you’ll have to find your way out of these woods on your own.”

Leo narrowed his eyes as the man stepped closer. Of course he would say something like that, "Like hell I will." Leo said as he took a step closer to the man, in reality it was probably on of the stupidest moves he could have ever made but it a way it just helped to prove the next words that came out of his mouth. "I'm getting in this place whether you like it or not! I'm not just going to turn around and walk off with my tail between my legs like some kind of sad dog that lost in a fight!" Leo said as fire lit up in his eyes again, "I don't give up that easily and I won't go done without a fight. Ya what to know what I have to offer? A fire that won't burn out and a soul that will never give up and stop fighting. I fight for what I want and dont back down even when I know I'm beat. I get what I want and right now this is it." His eyes narrowed at the man even more. Leo knew he was no match for this guy yet he still decided to push the envelope, he would either walk away from this with his brother by his side or end up face down in the dirt where he stands now. "I'm not planning on leaving this forest with nothing in hand. I came in here for a reason and I intend to follow though." He added, hands back in fists at the side of him. All he could do right now was hold his ground, even if he did want to run off with his tail between his legs.

Danny was waiting, hidden high up in the trees. She came to these meetings every once in a while, but tonight she decided to make her presence known. Danny gathered her magic and surge it up and over her body. A sickly purple haze haloed her head and shoulders and she dropped from the trees to land behind the lad Lasair was interrogating. As she landed, she immediately cast her spell, a twin pair of swords tearing a hole in the air and slowly emerging in each of her hands. She was wearing her mask, and her cloak, and spoke in as guttural a voice as she could manage.
"You don't decide that. I do." Danny placed the tips of the babbling undead swords on the ground on either side of the recruit. "You are in no position to make demands. Fox, continue."

The fox listened to the boy continue to rant, hearing the anger in his voice. It took a bit of self control to keep from matching in his mood. A different man would also get angry, also begin shouting, make this an argument of willpower. But the golden fox knew better. He listened to the words, listened to the way Leo did, in fact, answer the question. And when the twin was done speaking, he simply nodded his head calmly.
As a certain other mask appeared from the trees, the fox was almost surprised by the magical actions. Almost. But he was getting used to always assuming that the leader was somewhere near by when it came to the woods. “Thank you,” he said simply, gesturing towards the swords at either side of the boy.
He cleared his throat. “You’re passionate. A common trait, but a valuable one no less. You want in? You refuse to leave unless you’re accepted? But you won’t come in without your brother?” There was a pause in his speech as he concentrated magic into his words. It was a style he rather enjoyed as of late. “What if your brother isn’t there to join you?” The spell was cast and with its effects, Leo would be unable to see his brother for the short time. A time that could be extended four times more. The fox gestured in the direction Emelo had been standing in, inclining the other brother to look that way.

Leo froze as another person appeared behind him and put two blades on either side of him. This person was obviously from the same guild but the position of power that this person had was unclear either way they had to be someone higher up to be able to do and say what they did and not get told off for interrupting. Leo stared at the man with the fox mask since he was unable to turn around to see who the other one was. He kept silent as the man spoke though what he said confused him a bit, "What the hell do you mean by 'isn't there'?" Leo asked as he looked off in the direction the man was gesturing, in the direction of his brother. "What the..." Leo said as his eyes went wide. His brother wasn't there anymore.
Emelo turned around just as the other person dropped down. "Le-" Emelo began to call out as he quickly covered his mouth, stopping himself from calling out his brothers name. He couldn't get involved... This could be that trick of magic the masked man was going to use on him. It took everything Emelo had to stay where he stood and watched as the two stood around his brother. He didn't like like the fact that this other person had blades to his brother, but if that was part of the test then so be it. Emelo smiled lightly as brother looked over to him, though the look on his face scared Emelo... It was almost as though he was looking right through Emelo, as though he wasn't there...
"W-Where is he?" Leo said with a scared look on his face and worry in his eyes. His brother was just there and now he's gone... They must have taken him. Someone must have come down from the trees like the one behind him did, "Where is he!? What did you do with my brother?!" Leo said as he took a step closer to the man, ignoring the one behind him. "What did you do with him?! Where is Emelo?!?" Leo shouted, rage in his voice as he began to go at the man only to hear his brothers voice telling him to calm down. Lowering his hands Leo balled them up once more, digging his claws deeper into his skin. This was ending up to be too much work to get into this thing...

“He’s perfectly safe and unharmed.” The fox man said in an even tone, grinning a bit devilishly. “Also,” he added. “I wouldn’t ignore those swords if I were you.” He gestured down towards one of them, which had been moaning and groaning the entire time since being summoned. The boy had been unmoved by them, somehow, but perhaps it was because he didn’t look at them. Really look at them. The way the flesh clung to things and the twisted face it had. They were things out of nightmares. And there were two of them. On either side of the angry boy.
Taking a few paces back, he stopped to lean against a tree, crossing his arms and regarding the situation with a curious eye. “You need to realize that you’re not the one in control here. We are.”

Leo narrowed his eyes at the man as he spoke, "Of course I know I'm not it control but it's not like I'm just gonna sit here and roll of for ya. I'm not some lap dog." Leo said as he crossed his arm and looked down at one of the swords, he knew what kind of magic that was for his mother had the same kind. Looking back up to the man Leo stayed exactly where he was, unfazed by the blades that surrounded him. Leo still felt as though his brother never left and was still standing in the same place even though he could see Emelo. Taking a breath Leo thought this had to be some kind of test, they couldn't have just taken him because they wanted to, besides what would they even do to him. "And you didn't answer my question." Leo said with a straight face, all anger and rage now gone, "I never asked if he was hurt, I asked where he is." Leo said, seeming like a different person now.
Emelo stood there and watched as things went from one thing to another. Emelo's mouth dropped some as his brother suddenly just stopped, crossed his arms, and stared the man down. He only ever acted that was if Emelo yelled at him or told him to relax, other than that Leo was always a wild ball of rage... Emelo wondered if Leo figured out this was a test of if he was just playing it off like he didn't care anymore. Either way he was acting like a different person and even though Emelo couldn't hear a thing he could just see it in his brothers posture. "What is going on over there?" Emelo said to himself as he shifted his weight from one foot to another. He didn't like waiting.

This boy still wasn’t cooperating. Time to up the ante some more then. Lasair rolled his neck and lunged forward, pushing Leo back and to the ground, ideally making him land at Danny’s feet. “You’re attitude isn’t appreciated here. Keep it up and your brother won’t be coming back.” The last phrase was, again, laced with magic. Meant to ensure that the first dose didn't wear off, as well as add in a bit of panic to this kid.
If the fox man was going to do anything, it wasn’t going to be to submit. No, this is what it means to recruit someone; to test them. If he cracked under the pressure now, he’d lose his position in the guild. Not to mention the presence of the leader before him. It was time to make the boy understand one thing and one thing only.

Leo was slightly shocked as the man pushed him back causing him to fall back to the ground, just in front of the other person's feet. Just as Leo was about to stand back up and go at the man, the next words he said made Leo freeze. They would take his brother away from him? Why would they do that?! All because of his attitude? "Well how the hell am I supposed to act?!" Leo asked as he pushed himself up into a sitting position. "It's not like I've ever done something like this before! I have no idea what I need to do!" Leo said with worry in his voice, some of it focused on the two that stood around him but more focused on what might happen to his brother. Pulling his knee up a bit closer to his chest Leo rested an arm on his leg as he ran his hand through his hair, having absolutely no idea what he needed to do, all he did know was that he wasn't going to move from that spot. "What the hell am I supposed to do?! Not act like this? Than how am I supposed to act?! This is who I am and what I would do. Am I not supposed to act the way I would?" Leo asked, only seeming to confuse and fluster himself. Looking down to the ground Leo continued to rubbed his head, only to move his hand to his forehead, causing the other hand to do the same. "J-just don't hurt my brother.... Please..." Leo pleaded as he sat there, not moving and not knowing what else to do...
Emelo stood there and watched as his brother hit the ground. Worry began to take over as his legs began to twitch some. He wanted to run over there to Leo and help, find out what happened and fix it, after all Leo never knew when to stop and always had trouble with talking to others... "Leo...." Emelo said to himself as he knelt down and wrapped his hands around his knees, thinking this way he may have an easier time staying where he was supposed to.

The kid finally broke, admitting defeat as he stayed on the ground. The cobalt eyes from behind the fox mask nodded slowly while watching him, waiting several moments before stepping forward and offering the twin a hand. “You were trying to seize control of this situation. I had to show you how that pursuit was impossible. That out here, in the woods, you can be sure of nothing. Not even of the voice in your head. Anything can happen in the forest. And it’s for that reason that it’s a place to be feared. And that’s the reason why we call it home.”
Whether Leo accepted the hand or not, after he was standing Lasair called out to Emelo, who should be transitioning back to visible soon as the magic wore off. “You can come over now. The test is over.” After the two have their reunion, then he’d give them the last set of instructions. Hopefully this night in the woods would be over soon.

Leo stared at the ground as the man spoke to him. Everything the guy said made sense and Leo realized that he was the one in the wrong here. Removing his hands from his head Leo looked up at the man and the hand he was offering him. Looking away for a moment Leo turned back and accepted the hand in front of him, grabbing it and standing there for a moment as he looked at his hand, "I suppose your right..." Leo said somewhat under his breath as he wiped his hand on his pants before shoving them into his pockets, leaving a streak of red from where his hand was, "And... Sorry..." Leo said as he looked at the man, apologizing for a bit of how he acted but more for the blood now on the mans hand. With everything that just happened he had completely forgotten about that until now. Leo turned as the man called out to his brother, confused as to why he would call out to someone who wasn't there. As he looked over there His brother slowly began to appear... So he was there the whole time? Either way a small smile grew on the boys face.
Emelo stood up as the masked man called out to him. Yes... He could finally head over there. The same smiled grew on Emelo's face as he got closer. His speed slowly increased the close he got until he was standing next to Leo, with a wide grin on his face. Emelo didn't say anything as he stared at his brother for a moment before quickly raising his left hand and smacking his brother on the back side of the head. "What did you do!?" Emelo scolded, "I saw everything! And now see you ruined yet another pair of pants..." Sighing some Emelo stepped forward and grabbed his brother in a hug, "Stop being stupid..." He said with a small smirk.
"Owww..." Leo said as he rubbed the back of his head. Of course his brother saw everything, but... how? As he rubbed his head some a bit of shock came over his face as his brother hugged him, that was a bit new... Leo removed his hand from the back of his neck and pocket and returned the hug, only to be greeted with another pair of hands grabbing his, "What now?" Leo asked.
Emelo grumbled some as he grabbed his brothers hand after the hug. "I'll deal with this later..." He said as he turned to looked at his brother, "I'm just glad your ok... Kind of..." Emelo said, turning his attention back to the masked man, seeing as how he was still standing there.
Leo swiped his hands away from his brother and shoved them back into his pockets, letting out a huff as he did so. Turning he too looked over the man, wondering slightly about what else he had to say.

The blood that coated his hand was ignored as Lasair watched the pair reunite with a soft smile slowly coming to his face. “One last thing. Head two hundred yards that way. Take a right. You’ll see a large building out there. Wait there until I come get you. If you can’t find it, you can forget this night ever happened.” A hand rose up to point in the direction and as the words were finished speaking. Then the golden fox took a few steps back, disappearing into the shadows without a sound.
