Game play starts 100 years after the cross-over and while the Andersweltlers still aren't welcome parts of society, they have found ways to blend in and make due. It's still a dog eat dog world out there and every Faction and Guild (five in total) are fighting for power because at the end of the proverbial day, this world is still run by a monarchy and they have a temp filling in for the crown. Each players wants to A) rise in stature within their guild and B) Get their Guild Leader on the throne so they have the ultimate say in the way things are governed.
The island nation that the Machine City of Lodan exists in is made up of one Kingdom, or in this case Queendom. There are many small city-states that dot the island, while each is a self-contained and self-governed entity, they ultimately answers to the Queen. These city-states are like countries in and of themselves and only interact with the Queen when there is a threat too large to be handled alone, there is a national policy that effects the whole country, or they are paying taxes to the Queendom. Lodan is the largest and most successful of these city-states, and so The nation is governed directly by the Queen herself from within the capital of Lodan. The rest of the world history, international relations, etc can be found in the The Geo-Political World of Lodan
Game Guide Cliff Notes:
-Europium is a form of "Currency" that members can use to buy skills. It can be earned through in game and out-of-game achievements
-Every member may start with a Rank I Skill (Tech for humans, Magic for anders, Combat for either) or no skills if they so choose. Guild leaders start with two Rank I Skills.
-The Technology skill tree can only be used by Humans and the Magic skill tree can only be used by Andersweltlers; half-breeds can use one or the other. (they may not go back and forth)
-The Combat skill tree can be used by anyone independing of their race.
-There are 5 guilds total: Brotherhood of Rogues, Crafters/Artists & Entertainers Association of Lodan, Magicae Incolentium, Mingo's Merchanics, and Ebony & Ivory Royal Army of Lodan
-Every guild has a "Guild Bank" where Europium and purchased skills are recorded, these banks are updated by your Guild leader.
-The Queen's Sister has taken over as reigning Matriarch after the Post-Century Civil War, this has caused an uproar amongst the guilds, who all believed one of them would take control when the original Queen was no longer in power.
-Ever since the Civil War people are more secretive about their actions and their loyalties, and each one clings to the same objective: Amass power, gain influence, and secretly (r not-so-secretly) rule the City of Gears.
-The discrimination against Andersweltlers by Humans and the loathing against Humans by Andersweltlers has hit an all time high because of the civil war, and each side blames the other for said war.
Set in Victorian London, with magic and slightly better rights for women. If you are born low it is hard to climb higher; if you are an Andersweltler, you will not be a higher class unless your race is a secret. Racism is everywhere. Forced marriages happen daily and as a woman you either need to really, really fight for your rights or have a really open family.
Please realize too that at that time gayrights were rather... not existent. Please don't make all your characters gaysupporters and anti-discrimination, but also please do not use the setting as an outlet for discrimination either. Adhere to the time, if everyone wants to have a happy life with flowers and sparkles the whole story line wouldn't exist.
