Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Stephen where he usually was in the afternoons: reading in the library with his cats all around him. So far, he had been able to obtain six cats; Puck and Portia he had bought at the pet store, Romeo and Juliet he had gotten from Zona, Antonio he had relieved from an unworthy owner and lastly he had picked Titania up off the streets. Titania was the only adult cat of the group, the rest were kittens. He sat, reading one of his favorite plays "The Merchant of Venice" while petting Titania on the head. The fluffy white Persian watched as the kittens bounce around the library. Romeo and Puck were play fighting at Stephen's feet as Juliet watched with curious eyes. Portia was cleaning herself, as usual, by the door. Antonio was sitting quietly, surveying the room with his bright green eyes. Stephen set his book down lightly on the table next to him, reaching for his tea on his hand was free of the book. Today would be a grand day. Nothing would spoil his mood. He smiled to himself as he looked adoringly at his companions.
Lone crept through the house she lived underneath heading towards the kitchen in search of food. She was pretty sure that the majority of the cooking staff were out at the market today, and the owners of the house seemed to be gone as well, so it was a perfect time to stash some food away in her little crawl space. As she snuck past the... book room... she forgot the actual word for it, but that one room full of lots and lots of books, she saw a small fluffy tail flick by. Was it one of those pointy eared creatures she always saw everywhere? Curious, she took a detour in the "book room" and saw the "pointy eared creature" licking its fur calmly. Gently, she knelt down next to it, her whole body becoming engulfed in her long white hair, and simply watched it, curious.

Stephen set his drink down lightly and turned to look once more at his cats. The small smile on his face dropped when he noticed something was off. He mentally started counting: One black cat (Puck) and two calico's (Romeo and Juliet) were playing at his feet. A Persian was seated in his lap (Titania). A Russian blue glaring at something near the door (Antonio). A white cat with orange stripes was cleaning itself by the door (Portia). A rather large, unknown white thing was staring at Portia (unwanted creature). That counted 7 other creatures in this room, not including him. Stephen picked Titania up into his arms and strode over to the white think that was peeping on Portia. "WHAT in God's name are you, WHYare you in my house, WHERE did you come from, and WHO do you think you are to disturb my peace" he growled, getting louder with every word as he glared at the white blob in front of him. His prediction had been wrong. This.... thing certainly was spoiling his mood.

Lone looked up quickly at the outburst of sound escaping the boy's lips. She saw a boy, obviously livid, seething, yelling at her for reasons she didn't know. Why was he so angry? What had she done? She just wanted to see the pointy-eared creature! He was probably going to do something to her that hurt, so she scampered backwards against the wall, trembling nervously. Her bottom lip started to quiver and glob-like tears started to pool up at the bottom of her large yellow eyes.

Stephen gave her an unbelieving look, watching the girl start to cry. Remorse tugged at his stomach but now was not the time to get sensitive. "Oh no, you are not going to start crying on me, young lady. There will be no pity parties here today! No Sir! You are an intruder in my house! Explain yourself!" he huffed in a quieter tone. Titania blinked at the girl, cocking her head. Portia looked at the girl as well. She sneezed then got up, trotting over towards the girl. "No, no, Portia" he scolded gently, picking the kitten up. "We do not know if she is nice or not. She might have the plague for all I know" he glanced wearily back down at the girl, taking a small step back.

The fact that the boy was still yelling at her made her want to cry more, but he was telling her to stop, so maybe if she stopped crying he would stop being so angry and scary. She wiped her hands across her eyes in an attempt to halt the tears, and sniffled one last time before hunching her shoulders and bringing her hands up to her chest in a defensive position. She peered eerily from her behind her hair at the boy. The plague? What was a plague? She flapped the bones that were her wings slightly, and they creaked with the movement, but otherwise she was completely still... Then dodged quickly out of the library, making a run for it.

Stephen sighed, glad that the girl seemed to have stopped crying. "That is better. Now, answer my questions- HEY! Where exactly do you think you are running off to!" he yelled, reaching out quickly and grabbing the girls arm. "I swear, all the midgets in this blasted city are as sneaky as you. Try to have a conversation with them but no, they run off or mug you" he huffed. The girl needed to calm down. "You are coming with me" he grumbled, half dragging/half leading her down to the kitchen. Antonio hopped up and followed the parade. Titania closed her eyes and fell asleep in Stephen's free arm. Portia scrambled up so that she was draped over Stephens shoulder and mewed excitedly at the new guest. Puck, Romeo, and Juliet were oblivious to the whole event.
Once he got her down in the kitchen he set her gently on a stool. After putting Titania and Portia on the table he turned and pointed a stern finger at the girl. "Stay. You move a muscle and I will sic Titania on you. She is a ferocious beast, I warn you." The "ferocious beast" yawned tiredly and snuggled in on itself. After he felt that his threat had gotten through, he turned to make the girl a cup of tea. He was far to soft. Some random kid breaks into his home and here he is, boiling a pot of tea for the brat. If only she had tried to kick him or something. But no, she had to start crying and look all helpless. Kids are such a hassle... Antonio seated himself at the entrance to the kitchen, taking up his survey job once again. Portia strutted over to the girl and flicked her ears and she examined her.

Lone's voice got stuck in the back of her throat as she attempted to yelp. Half of the reason for this was because her voice could not take it, and the other half is because she stopped herself, because that would probably make things even worse. She struggled and tried to get away, but the boy was too strong. They were heading to the kitchen. He was going to boil her alive, wasn't he? She was trembling violently as he sat her down on a stool. She tried not to move, as even though the pointy-eared creature seemed calm enough, she was afraid of the boy's threat and wasn't going to take it lightly. The problem was, she was trembling so much that maybe he would think she was moving a muscle. Her mouth twitched as her eyes darted upwards towards hanging baskets of assorted fruits. She just sort of stared at them blankly, her concentration broken.

Stephen turned around with 2 cups of tea in hand. "Here, drink this" he ordered sternly, setting one cup down next to her. She seemed to be looking at something. Glancing up he noticed the fruit. Making a face, he reached up and grabbed an orange and set it next to her tea as well. "You can have this as well- but just this once. This is not a charity bank so do not run around blabbering about how the Leland's give free food" he warned, glaring at her with his one eye. With a sigh, he pulled another stool up to the counter and sat down in it, taking a sip of his tea. "You are going to answer my questions and there will be no tricks, got it? Now, Who the bloody hell are you" he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in an attempt to calm his annoyance.

Lone picked up the orange and held it in her tiny hands, but stared at the tea wearily. She had never witnessed such things before. He boiled something, and he wanted her to drink it? He put something in it... What was it? She turned back to face Stephen and cocked her head, her expression unchanging, but somehow she managed to do so with a curious sort of air about her. Slowly, she arose from her seat on the stool and crept over to Stephen, putting her face uncomfortably near his, and slowly lifted the eye patch up at the top, peering in to see why he covered his eye. She was unaware that such things are typically considered socially unacceptable.

Stephen frowned deeper as she got up and walked towards him. Confusion was written all over his face as she got uncomfortably close, causing him to lean back some in his chair. When she lifted up his patch he was too shocked to react at first. He just stared at her open mouthed. Then, he exploded. "WHAT THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING! YOU CAN NOT JUST GO LOOKING UNDER WHATEVER YOU BLOODY WELL PLEASE LIKE THAT!" he roared, causing even the cats in the room to jump with surprise. He reached up and grabbed the girls arm, pulling her away from him as he smacked the patch down back over his eye. She saw. There was no denying it. What the hell was he going to do? If this girl started talking about his apparent Ander eye... Life here in Lodan would be hell for his family. What was wrong with this kid!? She had a blatant disrespect for personal space! Maybe the child was so daft she would not remember what she had just learned about him. Queens, he prayed that this was true.
He fumed angrily, taking deep breaths in an attempt to calm himself down. The thought of ripping that girl's pretty little head off popped into his mind but he shooed it away immediately. Not only would that be a hassle but it would be highly illogical as well. Her actions did not designate such a severe consequence. Portia trotted over and meowed at her owner. Stephen dropped the girls arm and picked up Portia. Holding her was definitely helping him regain his cool. "Alright, brat. If you touch me or any of my clothing again, I will throw you into the ocean with weights tied around your waist" he said in a strained voice, trying to sound pleasant but probably failing.. "Obviously you have no manners what-so-ever, so I will have to give you a little lesson in edicate today." He set Portia back on the table, the turned once more to the girl, his eye twitching a little from annoyance. He began speaking slowly and clearly, pronouncing each word carefully "First of all, you do NOT touch people or their things without their permission. Secondly, when someone gives you something, like an orange or tea..." he picked up her cup and pointed at it then setting it down roughly on the table. "... You thank them. Third of all, you do NOT go into people's houses without their permission first. Last of all, when someone asks you a question, you answer it; You do not run away, nor do you stare blankly back at the person unless you want them to believe you have a brain the size of a speck of dust. Do I make myself clear?" he growled the last few words. "Now, answer my question. Who. are. you?"

As Stephen let go of her arm, Lone fell butt-first onto the ground, knocking the stool she had previously sat on away with a clatter. Why'd he yell at her? She was just curious! Her lip started to tremble again, but she tried her hardest to hold back tears because she knew he had told her not to do that before, and she had gotten him even more angry than then. She covered herself in her hair as a sort of shield, and watched as he continued to lecture her on things he didn't like her to do. She felt terrible, and covered her face with her hair in case she did end up spilling the tears that were building up. He asked her who she was again... "Lone...." She croaked almost inaudibly with a strained and somewhat raspy whisper.

Stephen blinked at the girls response. Odd name. "Alright, good you are cooperating. Here, get off the floor" he sighed, feeling bad for having yelled at her again. She deserved it but she was still only a little girl. He picked up her bench and righted it before turning to offer her his hand. He was not really all that mad anymore, just tired of it all. "What are you doing here in my house, Lone?"
"... Live... here" she said even quieter than she had said her name. She stared at his hand as he held it out to her in awe and terror, and backed away from it a little, standing up in the process. After looking from Stephen's hand to his face to his hand again, she slowly bent down and picked up the orange and pressed it softly into his palm. Is this what he meant? He wanted the orange back?
Post by Stephen Leland on Aug 18, 2014 3:20:50 GMT
Stephen had to process what she was saying for a moment. "Yes you live in Lodan, I can see that. But where exactly?" he huffed, annoyed again. When she gave him the orange back he returned her gesture with an odd look. "What, do you not what this anymore? I gave it to you. It is yours to keep. Take it or not, I could care less" he sighed setting the orange down on the table next to her. Apparently she was afraid of contact. There were a lot of things wrong with this kid. Maybe she had been abused when she was younger. That might explain her reactions. If that was the case, yelling at her was not going to help... Was there someone who was good with kids? Edel came to mind but he had not seen her in a while. Who else...
