Pardon our dust - On the horizon of a new age...

Edelweiss Fjäril and Sayvahn like this

For many years, the humans who lived in this world enjoyed growth and unlimited potential. Constantly innovating, their technology grew and evolved to new heights with each passing year. The Andersweltlers, refugees from an unknown world, a harsh and mysterious plane, found themselves struggling to catch up. Never mind the social and economic struggles they faced; despite their powers and abilities, they were shunned, considered lower than humans, and discriminated against. No, this was just but one problem, for despite all of their work and efforts to grow and evolve their magic, they found that even in that aspect, the one thing closest to their being, they too, were limited, as the world they were forced to call their new home had mana too rigid and inflexibe to tap into their true potential.
Until now.
This was all going to change.
“They’ll all see…”
The robed man cackled, his laughter echoing across the chamber. Soon, his plans would come to fruition. Countless days, studying runes until his eyes bleed. Countless nights, where even his dreams were plagued with puzzles and riddles. Innumerable tomes, filled to the brim with calculations and notes. Even the very walls themselves became the canvas upon which he decorated with his mad writings when he ran out of pages. But alas, the time for planning, calculating, and dreams was at an end.
Now was the time for action.
A large circle was etched into the ground, patterned with symbols and writings in an unknown language, telling of a ritual privy only to him.
With one last smile, he took a deep breath, then started to recite an incantation, causing the circle, as well as all the writings on the walls to glow…
---
It was sudden.
A sound, like glass shattering in the distance, seemed to echo in the minds of every living being, as a large ripple of energy spread across the land, nay, the world. It reverberated in everyone’s core, as if it were an anthem announcing the beginning of a new age. While most shrugged it off, the more astute caught on that something had shifted in the natural order of this world.
Andersweltlers discovered that the land, once devoid of the mana necessary to bring their spells to the next level, was now a fount of untapped potential, a phenomenon not experienced since their exodus from their original world. Although there were still limits to how much they could tap into, it was more than an welcomed amount, compared to before.
Humans, on the other hand, were not as lucky. Due to the initial wave of energy, all technology, regardless of whether it was treated against magic or not, collapsed, jammed, or otherwise failed, suffering the symptoms of being affected by a powerful magic spell. Thankfully for them, they were just on the heels of an Inventor’s Fair, and many of the innovations blossomed from that event helped to expedite the recovery process. But while they were able to recover from the event and even grow, they found that there was a cost: due to the increase of mana in the world, treating technology to become resistant to the negative effects of magic became much more difficult and expensive, and even then, there was a limit to the amount of technology that one could have on hand.
By and large, the status quo remained unchanged, but the tools that separated Andersweltlers and humans were now on a more even playing field.
Who knows whether the changes that occurred from this even were for good, or for ill…
Hey everyone!
It’s finally here: the great update!
For those of you brand new and reading this, welcome! I hope you’ll take a gander at the rest of the site and enjoy your stay.
For you veterans, you will notice a whole slew of changes. The above story is way of giving an in-game explanation for the update: in layman's terms, Magic users have more casts while Tech users now face limitations, but both are limited to how many skills they can use at once (Note that this mostly applies to Skills, and we will be giving a more in-depth explanation of how other tech, such as everyday appliances, are affected by this change. For now, it is safe to assume your fridge still works). As stated before in the preview announcement, the skill overhaul, along with the reintroduction of stats, were ways to help balance out a few of the issues that have affected the site in the past. However, this allowed us to improve upon the skills as a whole, as well as (hopefully) open you guys up to further creativity, as there are now some limits to building your character. Furthermore, earning EPM as well as buying Skills are easier than ever, as how you earn EPM is now transparent, and not only are Skill costs cut (at least for the lower ranks), but the Skills Merchant is open for business all of the time, which should ease the burden that came with the previous limited Skills Merchant visits.
Please note that there are still a few things under construction, namely the Clockwork Doll FAQ for you Tech users (there is one in the NPC guide, but it is unfortunately outdated), as well as the inclusion of Missions, something mentioned in the Active Skills guide. These things, along with updates to some of the lore posts/guides, as well as one surprise that didn’t quite make the cut in time, will be added in the near future.
With that being said, members both new and old, please give the new guides a look through and submit any questions you may have in the Q & A Open Forum. And get ready, as our next RP event will be going up very shortly. (Hint: it’ll be an interesting twist to our usual Valentine’s Day event, bringing a new meaning to “eat your heart out” ).
And I think that is it for now...keep an eye out for more announcements regarding these changes as well as that fancy new RP event.
Catch ya guys on the flip side!
