Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

OPEN TO ALL (please come give my new babbin some love)
It was, Elijah reflected as he stepped foot outside, a pleasant morning. Early enough that the sun was not glaring down on the passerby, and warm enough that a light coat was sufficient to take a stroll in the Central Square. There were people around, but it was tranquil. Peaceful. As he took his morning walk, Elijah breathed deep, enjoying the play of the breeze on his face, paying little attention to the few strands of hair that escaped their perfectly coifed ensemble. After his walk, he'd have to take care of the family's finances, and check on the servants. He'd also probably have to convince his sister to abandon whatever crazy idea she was brewing today. Still, right now, he had no pressing matter to attend to, and he resolved to enjoy his walk for as long as it lasted.
And so he walked on, paying no mind to the other passerby.

It had been a while since the last time Edelweiss had set foot in the Central Square. The place was nice, but her amount of free time lately was somewhat limited and there wasn't much for her to do in there business-wise.
Today had been a bit of an exception for that second case, and she found herself on the way to a courtesy call for a prospective patron. But she had ended arriving in the area a lot earlier than expected as well, so she figured she could just find the nearest bookstore, get a new book or anything nice to read and find somewhere to sit down and enjoy the breeze a little until the appointed time. ...Or at least that was the plan until this very distracted wandering lad bumped into her and there her new book went into the nearest fountain. Sigh.
Elijah was yanked back to earth when a figure bumped into him. He turned to them, eyebrows drawn, but his sharp Excuse me? went unsaid when he realised that the shock had sent the... man? Person's book into a fountain. Woops. With a sheepish expression, Elijah leaned over and fished the book out, shaking it lightly to get the worst of the water out. As he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket to dab at the cover, he looked down at the owner of the book.
"My apologies, I'll endeavour to be more careful in the future." He looked at the book again and, with a moue, judged that it was most probably still readable, if not quite as pretty as it had been a moment before. "If you'd like, I could give you enough to buy another copy?" It really didn't look very rare, nor expensive, so it would be no problem to pay for... well, in all honesty, his mistake. He really should have focused more on where he was going.

"Oh my, what a mess..." A voice purred from behind the two, "It was such a nice, quiet morning. It seems such quiet can't last for long, now can it?" Tomcat, sitting on the edge of the fountain, repeatedly flipping a coin in the air and catching it in his palm, glanced over at the two with his bright, purple eye and snickered. The central square was not a place he typically frequented. His 'type,' as others might describe it, stood out like a stripper giving a sermon, in an area such as this. But, Tom wasn't one care where he went. He did as he pleased. And this morning, what he pleased was to be sitting right where he was.

Edelweiss would have been mildly miffed at the 'dampening turn of events', if the lad who caused it hadn't immediately rushed to try and restore the book. Oh well, what could one do then, accidents happen. "It's alright. Seems like it's still legible." She replied with a small sigh and a calming hand motion. Might turn some pages stuck till it dries, but she had some time... "May I have a name to go with the water, though?"
And then suddenly there is a third person staring at them very closely from his sitting spot, and apparently amused at it. "...Can we help you?"

Oh well, at least the lad (lady?) was taking this rather well. What a relief. He wouldn't have to deal with a scene this morning. He got quite enough of that at home. Even as he was about to answer her (his?) question and introduce himself properly, a second person spoke up. In a quite... peculiar way for this place of the city. Even as the book owner turned (her? his?) attention to the new speaker, Elijah shifted to better face the both of them. And frowned, resisting the urge to take an instinctive step back.
Was that eye sewn shut?
The radiant purple intact eye and the attire only registered distantly, in the part of Elijah's brain that was not completely focused on the possible source of the scars and wire, and did it hurt still? It looked like old scarring, but how old?
Thus lost in his contemplation, he did not even think to speak up as well.

Tom's gaze fell upon the waterlogged book. "No brother, it seems you're the one that needs the help." Was the redhead male, or female? He couldn't tell. He wen't with 'brother' by default. "It's a shame, that looks like an interesting read." He, of course, was lying. As one who was illiterate, books was not something he took an interest in. "I think the man who bumped into you should buy you another." The other fellow, square-jawed and lean, adjourned with dark locks heavy brown eyes, seemed to be looking in his direction, an expression of... - was it fear? Perhaps surprise? - on his face. A typical response, Tom thought, thanks to the rough stitching of his eye, but he couldn't help but scoff, if only in the slightest. He would be lying if he said that it didn't irritate him when the first thing people noticed was his disfigurement - but it seemed that it was the only thing anybody could see. A scarred mess of a man. His smile returned, and he snickered, forcing himself to suppress any annoyance he may have been feeling. "What, have I got something in my teeth?"
Post by Edelweiss Fjäril on Apr 30, 2017 4:50:22 GMT
"That's not... necessary..." The redhead also did a double take as she noticed the wire crossing the Feline's (because that race was the only thing that other glowing purple orb indicated to her) eyesocket. Instead of disgust though, she suddenly felt a pang of genuine concern.
Those stitches were a mess, even though the injury looked old. It seemed painful. "...Are you alright?"

Elijah started at the question, brought out of his musing with a jolt. "Oh! No, but your eyes are... Fascinating."
Oh. He was being rude again, wasn't he? He could almost feel the phantom pain of a pinch on his forearm, where his sister would express her exasperation. Even as Elijah was about to say he was sorry, the... Lad with the book spoke up.
Really, today was rather turning to be a blow to his manners. First bumpimg into someone and ruining their book, then being rude to a man who'd lost an eye. With a sigh, he resolved to be on his best behaviour for the rest of the encounter.

"Tch" Tom scoffed "Aye, this is what happens when you ask someone questions about business that isn't yours" he said, gesturing to the wire laced between scarring. He glanced between the redhead and the clumsy man, and stood up, walking around him before resting his arm on the man's shoulder, resting his weight on him with no concern for personal space, and sighing. "You're not having the best luck today, are ya brother?"

"Apparently none of us are. In different manners..." She relented with an awkward smile, glancing down at the humid book in her hands before turning her attention back to the people present and watching the lad with the painful-looking stitches leaning on the lad who was having a clumsy day.
"So, since it seems our meeting might linger some more... What may I call you two gentlemen?"
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
Oh. Some kind of punishment? Torture maybe? Even as his mind spiraled into possibilities, he realised exactly what he was contemplating and a grimace of distaste flashed over his face. Who would do that? Even to an andersweltler, it was monstruous!
His thought were once again derailed as the man just... leaned his weight on him without even introducing himself first. Really, manners. But still, it would be rude to simply move away and let him fall... He took his chance as the book owner asked for introductions and bumped his shoulder up to dislodge his arm before sliding away. He took a few pointed steps to the left, away from the man, and smiled politely to the book owner.

Tom smirked. He was getting under their skin - and by the queen, it was amusing. He moved away from the man... Elijah, it seemed his name was, as he pushed him off his shoulder, and the feline ran his fingers through his black hair. Waiting until Elijah finished, he turned towards the redheaded fellow and gave them a quick sort of salute. "Tomcat, at your service."

So, a noble gent and a tomcat, huh? Add a guild leader to it and that was an interesting group they made together; the redhead had to control herself not to snicker at the thought - though a half-smile still stubbornly formed on her lips.
"Pleased to be made your acquaintance. My name is Edelweiss Fjäril." She added as her own introductions. "...Were we all up for a simple stroll that led to this meeting, or was this derailing you on some business?"
"All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - John Dalberg-Acton
Tomcat, hm? Surprisingly apt. But not quite imaginative, maybe. Oh well.
Elijah was quite glad for the introductions, because it resolved his dilemma. Edelweiss was a woman's name, which cleared his confusion. Altough... Now, he was regreting not showing the proper respect to a lady when he introduced herself. But now, a bow or kiss to the hand would just look awkward or forced. He elected to ignore it for now, and make up for it when the occasion would present itself.
"I was merely taking a walk myself, before settling down to work for the day. I do hope my... blunder has not caused too much trouble in your day's schedule."
Ah, and there was the perfect moment to bow lightly at the waist. He did so, left hand splayed over his breast pocket. "My apologies again for that." He hesistated for a second, glancing at Tomcat, before going back to Edelweiss.
"If you do not wish for me to replace the book, would you accept a cup of tea as my apology?" He did not bother to include Tomcat in the offer, but something told him the man would do as he pleased anyway.
