Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"You did." She stated with a sympathetic smile as the man fumbled with his words. Had he been a little closer, she might have given him a pat on the back.
Though it did intrigue her to hear her District made him uncomfortable. "...Oh?" She raised an eyebrow at that. "I'm sorry to hear that."

"It's -" He paused, contemplating if he should continue any further. He decided he would. "By now, you have probably noticed that I am from Sveden. A small village. I never liked trips into the big city because I always felt like there was something going on... under the layers. I am not sure how to describe -.... But it is sort of the same thing with the Theater District. Something sinister." He sighed "Perhaps I am simply to superstitious. I... suppose I like too trust my gut."

"Trusting your instincts is good. Can't deny it spared me from a couple of pinches as well." She relented, adding in her mind that -not- following her instincts had also put her in trouble more than once. So Aldvar was probably being wise on that.
Even so...
"It just saddens me that's the impression my District could give someone. It was supposed to be a safe haven for people who wanted a break, a celebration, or just forget their troubles for a while..." And hearing that someone was uncomfortably wary of what maybe-happens underneath it all was worrysome. Both because it contradicted those more open, candid premises in all their honesty, and also could be dangerous for said underground business if random people are able to sniff their dealings. "...Oh well, guess that means it has a long way to go still."

"Y-your dist-? oh - I mean, that's not what I -...." Aldvar sighed. There was no use trying to convince them that what he said wasn't what he had meant, for it was, and to say otherwise would be to lie. All he could do now was apologize. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend or disappoint... Please forgive me. I should learn to watch my words."

Aldvar was grateful for the topic change. "I am relatively new, yes. I am sure you know by now that I am from Sveden, so it is sometimes difficult to live here because people tend not to trust me, but I do not blame them. The citizens of Lodan have been through much turmoil at the hands of my people. I had nothing to do with any of it, but there is still a part of me that feels guilt...." he shook his head "Ah, but I like it here. The city is a wonderful place. I had spent my younger days wandering, and yet... something compelled me to stay here. There is so much... diversity, in the people here. There are people here that use magic! Before entering the city, I had thought that magic was only in stories. And the clockwork machines here are.... fantastic seems a word that does not give them enough credit. Where I grew up, we did not have many machines, but during the visits to the cities that I would go on with my parents, the machines from Sveden frightened me. Here they are... vibrant. Friendly. I would like to learn how they work." His bright blue eyes swam with admiration, and his gaze seemed directed elsewhere. "I know that there is trouble between the people who use magic and the people who do not, but I can't help but think that... they are all great. The people I have met, the people I have seen wandering the streets, the interactions they have... It seems that everybody here is wonderful. Maybe in different ways... but still wonderful." A sort of shame washed over him, and it seemed as if his eyes dulled. The large man looked down at his table, his face reverting from one of awe to his neutral scowl "Ah, I apologize... you do not wish to listen to my ramblings." He paused, deciding to re-direct the conversation to the woman. He did not wish to consume the whole thing with his speaking. "Er, how long have you lived here, Edelweiss? You work at the Theater District, as you said before... what do you do there?"

Wow, so the man could indeed talk quite a bit when he felt like doing so. Maybe he just needed to be put in a comfortable enough mood for it to happen, and if that's the case then Edelweiss felt happy (and a little bit amused) that she was able to make it happen during a first meeting. There was a mild smile forming on her lips at the thought.
"Ah, I'm Lodan-born; have lived here my whole life. But your ramblings are fine, don't worry. That's quite a refreshing point of view to hear." She replied with a soft chuckle, and it was true. Nice to know there were more people living in this city who could openly appreciate both magic and tech (and all the people who produced either of those), besides Stephen Leland and Wern . There weren't many who dared to do that. "I'm the guildleader there. Not of the guild you're seeking to join, unfortunatly." Since he had heard of Mingos too, she at least guessed he'd know of the other legally-sanctioned guilds. "You must have heard of CAEsAL, I presume?"

"CEAsAL..." Aldvar murmured, "The entertainers and artists, right?" he paused "I... have not seen any shows yet..." He hadn't thought it a wise idea to mention that shows were not something he would be particularly interested in seeing, either.

"And crafters, but yes." She replied with a small nod. It was part of CAEsAL's very name afterall, though there were many more who crafted or built things in Mingos there were still those who made a place for themselves in her guild by making show out of producing or presenting their creations - like puppeters who made their own puppets, or a glass sculptor who had an audience watch their work and such... Though it was undeniable some of the 'crafters' were only in that position as a cover for their actual work, be it as informants or assassins.
"We provide entertainment in general, from simple things to the most complex. I could recommend a show or something else depending on what interests you."

"Ah- no... that is... alright..." He supposed he wouldn't be lying if he were to say money was tight... it would be better than telling the woman, the leader of the entertainer's guild, that he had little interest.... "money is not something I have much of to spend on entertainment... I am sorry..." He furrowed his brow.

"That's not much of an issue. It does limit your options within the theaters some, and there wouldn't be much for you in a casino, but street performers are paid in what the street audience feels they ought to pay, and we do have some pro bono work done on the side." The redhead shrugged. "I can't say I don't appreciate monetary income; a guild's livelihood depends on it afterall. But trying to catter to all classes has it's own advantages too." And while money could mainly come from the rich individuals of the upper crust in the city, it would be a lie to deny the majority of her workers came either from the middle or straight from the botton. She was about to list some options on what Aldvar could watch (maybe something the kids put out?) but apparently a random passerby decided to join in on the conversation.
"Ayup, ye! Bu' there're som people who dun'have aaaany class."
"Sir, I'm not a coat's hanger. Please remove yourself from my shoulder." And then Edelweiss found herself wondering why was it some people thought it was a good idea to get wasted right early in the morning.

Aldvar raised an eyebrow as a stranger entered the scene, his brain taken completely by alcohol's influence, slurring words and hanging across Edelweiss' shoulder. The large man winced - even he wasn't that bad. And certainly not at this time of day. His hangover, which he had previously been able to suppress thanks to distraction, came crawling back with this reminder. But he found himself worrying - This stranger was awfully close to Edelweiss at the moment.... She could easily be hurt by him, if he so decided... or his intoxication decided... "Sir -" Aldvar started, but paused, not knowing what he'd say next. Could he just tell him to leave? He didn't want to start trouble...

Edelweiss sighed. She did give a couple moments for this mentally-impaired sod to let go of her, but there seemed to be no hints that he would attend to that - actually there didn't seem to be even a light of recognition that he might have understood what she said. Taking a deep breath, she tried speaking again, more slowly this time and offering a more detailed explanation to the prior request. "Sir, you ought to know better than to manhandle a lady, mainly a stranger on the street. I'll give you 3 seconds to please let go."
"Three..." Request ignored again, apparently. "Two..." The drunkward was just distracting himself by talking about 'neat drinks' and thought it'd be a good idea to invite them for a shot too. "One..." And there he was attempting to wobble-drag the redhead away. "Zero." She didn't even glance back at him. The only part of her body that moved was her arm, with a clenched fist slamming hard on his chin. The man slumped down and stayed on the floor, instantly unconscious.
She was going to leave it at it, but a second later realized that leaving trash on the ground was street polution, and so she turned her attention back to Aldvar with an apologetic look. "Just one moment." And then proceeded to carry the passed out drunk like a sack of potatoes towards the nearest trashcan, dump him in it, and returned a minute later. "My apologies. Where were we again?"

Aldvar pressed his lips together and looked wide-eyed at Edel, then flicked his gaze towards the trash can where the drunk man now lay, and then back towards the woman before him - "Er..... I am not... not quite sure... " And to think he was worried about her safety. If the people in Lodan could fight like that, he should worry more about his own.... He ran his fingers lightly across his bow, which sat before him on the table, an unconscious gesture of insecurity.

"...Are you alright?" Edelweiss paused, tilting her head in a mix of concern and confusion at that face the large man was now pulling. With how used most of the people in her guild were used to the fact she could handle herself in combat better than would be average, and how naturally Amon reacted to her antics even while in his district and also the fact it had apparently happened to Sayvahn before as well, she sometimes forgot that this sort of display (throwing drunk people into trashcans) was not in fact perfectly normal to witness.
