"Don't you just love a good festival?"
Stephen looked up from the book he had just purchased to glance at the dreamy look on Mary's face. "As long as people enjoy themselves in a respectful manner then I see no reason to dislike them," he replied evenly, slipping the small book into his vest pocket. Mary frowned at him, evidently not liking his answer. "It's the Festival of Hearts, Master Leland. Try to act a little more charming," she huffed, looking away from him. He chuckled then shook his head, wondering if she meant for him to be charming in the way men were depicted in romance novels. Mary had demanded that she accompany him to the festival- a bit pushy coming from a simple house maid if you asked him, but no one ever did these days- claiming that she was there for his own safety and to guide him around but he was starting to realize that she just wanted an excuse to go to the festival.
"You know, you could have just taken the day off-"
"Is that a chicken?!" Mary suddenly blurted, staring at a small brown fluff that was darting through the crowd in front of them. Women were screeching as they jumped out of the way of the frightened and confused creature, flapping it's wings in distress. Stephen couldn't help but laugh at the sight.
"Indeed it would appear so," he hummed, eyeing the bird as he ran towards them. Just as it was about to pass them he darted forward and grabbed it carefully and held it aloft. That was... rather impressive if he did say so himself. "Who knew my reflexes were so good- Hey! Stop squirming, you!" The bird, obviously not pleased at being picked up by a stranger, flapped about and pecked at his hands in an attempt to get away. Thankfully, his grip was firm enough that he did not drop the creature.
"P-put that thing down right now! You're going to get dirty and that thing is not you problem anyways..." Mary squeaked, backing away from him as he held the chicken out in front of him. He looked around for where exactly the creature had come from and spotted a few more animals making their way back somewhere. Ignoring Mary's upset rambling, he made his way over to a tent that had a pen next to it, guessing this is were the creature had come from. "I think you lost this?" he called out to anyone that would listen.
