Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

He was right. She didn't know the city well, but she had plenty of time to explore, and felt a small twinge of guilt at the thought of making a person she'd only just met show her around. She straightened her back, fixed her posture, and placed a smile on her lips. "I'm fine. The fire frightened me but I'll be fine, now that it's all over. I should probably get home." She would regret the day ending, for she had fun with her new friend, despite the terror she'd felt during the fire incident. "I have a lot of work to do, sooo many paintings to finish, so I can start selling them." She counted them in her head quickly, silently. The number came up to about 11 unfinished pieces, but it could be more or less. "I'm almost done with one of them. It's very large, it nearly takes up my entire sitting room. It's of one of the clocktowers in the city. Would you like to see it? It's missing a few details yet, but otherwise it's nearly done, so it looks almost complete."

The correction of her posture did not go unnoticed by the velvet as he found himself mimicking her in standing upright with his shoulders back. “I would love to!” he said warmly. “Do you know how to get home from here?” he asked as he rolled his neck around, loosening it up somewhat. If she didn’t then he’d probably be able to figure it out. Depending on the district at least; there were some he knew better than others.
Offering her his arm (as well as a light smile) he gestured around them. “To where are we heading then? I do believe it is your turn to lead.”

As they turned the corner, she realised they were going the same way they had come before. Veronika nodded. "Yes, I know from here."
Returning his smile, she took his arm and led the way.
When they reached her house, waved her hand towards it. "We're here." It was a skinny brick townhouse, small, but comfortable. She took out her keys and unlocked the door, pushing it open across the wood floors. It was a mess. She stepped out of the cramped entry way to make room for Lasair to come inside. This put her in between the sitting room and small dining room. Everywhere was large canvases. She pointed to the sitting room, saying, "The clocktower painting is in here!" She waved him over with a smile and stepped into the room. "Careful not to trip on the carpet!" She exclaimed quickly. It was just a large throw rug on the floor, and she had made the clumsy mistake of forgetting about it multiple times.
She bounced on her toes excitedly as she presented the painting with her arms extended in front of it. She couldn't wait to finish it, and hoped it would turn out like she imagined in her head. Usually she was pretty neutral on her opinion of her own work, but this one she felt proud of, even if she hadn't seen the finished product yet. It was almost as long as the sofa, and so tall Veronika had needed to get out her small ladder when she started it.

The walk to her place was quick as he found himself following her inside in nearly no time at all. As he passed through the doorway, his eyes grew wide in surprise, seeing all the pieces of artwork scattered around the areas. He hardly had time to take it all in though as she beckoned him forward, presenting a huge canvas with a picture of the clock tower on it; he could tell which clock tower it was thankfully (Lodan had multiple, for some reason). The resemblance was there, if morphed a bit to fit into her style better. And now he could actually see her style; the way she made lines a little softer and used color in her own sort of way.
“It’s amazing. What kind of paint did you use on it? And how long have you been working on it so far?” he asked, stepping forward a little to lean closer, taking in the finer details. The faces of the clock were glowing; how had she gotten that effect? And the way the sky changed color was impressive as well. He stood there, staring at it, until he realized that she would probably grow tired from holding it. Stepping back, he couldn’t resist asking one more question. “What do you do with your pictures after you finish them?”

"Thank you!" She smiled, not sure how to take the compliment, so she did this awkward little curtsy/bow. She moved on. "It's oil based paint." She explained. "I need to wait a few days for it to dry before I can start painting on it again." She studied it, mentally reminding herself not to make the next coat as thick as this one, so she didn't have to wait as long for it to dry. "I've been working on it for about three and a half weeks. Of course, that's including all the times I've needed to let it dry, and the days I've just simply put it off to work on other projects." She hated putting off projects, she liked to finish them as quickly as possible so she could start new projects. "I'll sell this." She studied it for a moment. "I think it should look good in someone's hallway, if the ceilings are high enough. I don't know."
She thought back to the guides the orphanage would always make the girls read about household management, and how to be polite to guests. "Would you like to sit?" She gestured to the white flowered chair beside the doorway. "I can make some tea, or get you water. If you need to go though, I understand. We've been out and about all day, and a lot has happened."

While Lasair was no expert in paint types, he did recognize that oil paint was harder to work with from what he’d heard, mostly because it never fully dried out because, well, it was oil. Oil didn’t evaporate like water did, meaning there was always some of it left in the paint of the canvas. Odd, but artists rarely needed a reason to work in the media that they picked out. As long as they enjoyed it, there usually wasn’t much of a problem.
But as she mentioned selling it, his mouth turned upwards into a smile, an idea forming in his mind. “I might buy it. Have to check and make sure it fits, but if the wall has enough space, I think I might know a good location for it.” Of course he really didn’t need to buy it, but given how common it was for Anders to have a fascination in technology, and how the clock tower was almost a representation of that, he could see it fitting into the halls of MI rather well. They did have some of the tallest ceilings that Lasair had passed through while walking around the city. At the invitation to sit, he shook his head, preferring to turn and look at some of her other work instead. Her style was nice, pleasing to the eye, even if many of the pieces were unfinished. Again, he shook his head to the offer of water or tea. “I should probably leave soon,” he admitted, not exactly eager to go anywhere quickly. But first he wanted to hear what she’d have to say about the prospect of buying the artwork first.

Veronika blinked. She hadn't intended to make a sale tonight, simply show him, because she was excited. But if he wanted it, she would gladly sell it to him. She had been thinking of pricing it rather high, for it's size, but since Lasair had been so kind to her today, she silently decided to make it as low-priced as she could. Of course, she wouldn't ever tell him that, and she wouldn't bring the price up tonight unless he asked. She didn't want him to think that was the reason she'd brought him to see it, and felt a little twinge of guilt, mixed with pride at the knowledge he liked the painting.
"Oh." She said. "Alright. When I finish it, I'll let you know." She smiled. "If you do decide you would like it, I could help you hang it up." She offered, glancing back at it and considering its size. She knew it would be a difficult task for just one person to put on a wall.
He told her he needed to leave soon, and Veronika nodded, her blonde ponytail bouncing. She held up one finger as if to tell him to wait just one moment. She rushed to the kitchen. She had baked dozens of personal-sized cakes, and was planning on donating them to some of the orphanages and boarding schools around the city, but one could be spared. They had small designs on them (that, of course, being her favourite part about making them), and she chose the red one with yellow swirls. When she exited the kitchen, she held it out to him. "I have so many of these. It's a small thanks for today. It's nice to have found a friend in a big city like this." She paused, and added with a grin. "The red one, to match your hair." She hoped she didn't sound like she was teasing in a malicious way.

Lasair smiled to her happily. “I look forward to seeing it when it’s completed.” Looking over the whole massive piece one more time, he turned away, watching her walk out of the room now. While she wouldn’t be able to help him hang it up, the offer was appreciated. Helping him set it up for transport would be a great help, however. He didn’t quite know how to move a huge canvas like that into the forest without drawing too much attention, but he could figure something out. It would be worth it, especially after he picked out a spot to hang it.
When she returned with a little treat, an excited little grin broke out on his face. But he didn’t want to seem too eager and rush into taking a bite. So he held it with the happy smile on his face. “Thank you for the company!” he said excitedly, and then chuckled when she pointed out the way it matched his hair. “It’s a similar shade, good eye. The yellow is a little like your hair too,” he pointed out, tilting the treat towards her so she could look again if she desires. “I’m glad I could be a friend for you while you get settled here. I might be a little tough to find around the city, but if you ever go looking, just ask around CAEsAL. They tend be the best method to get a hold of me.” He’d also make a conscious effort not to spend so much time walled away in the forest too. But the days had a tendency of blurring together out there. One of the side effects of living under the radar like that.
