Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to Veronika Tallent ! While Lasair didn’t usually visit the Theater District often, he was starting to venture there more often in resent days. The festival had been lively and brought out a side of himself he hadn’t been able to enjoy for a long time. It was about the middle of the day right now, cloudy, and he felt like it was a good day to head out and look around, see if there was anything new to experience in the streets.
It didn’t take long for him to find himself at the main plaza, walking around as he tried to find someone performing. Well, finding someone wasn’t actually the hard part; the hard part was finding something he wanted stand and watch for more than a few moments. Performing animals weren’t a novelty anymore, tightrope acts could grow dull as well, but there was a sizeable crowd gathered at one side. Perhaps that show could be a good one? There was only one way he could find out. Shouldering his way past people, he tried to get a good view, hoping to see what the gathering was about.

Veronika was watching the show intently, focusing on each curve of an arm, wisp of hair, and frill of dress. Her eyes scanned the page of the sketchbook in her hand, trying to see what else would help her remember the image of the performers in front of her. She was drawing the show, with a young girl in a pink dress balancing a stack of beautifully decorated golden plates on her head while balancing herself on her toes. Behind her, girls in sheer dresses twisted themselves into strange positions one wouldn't even think a person could attempt. The sketches were for painting later on, when she was back at home with a canvas and her paints.
She felt someone bump into her shoulder, and turned to see a man she didn't know standing next to her. She smiled at him and greeted him politely with a bow of her head. She tried to take a step away to make space, and managed to give him a little, but there was such a crowd, she didn't have much more room, lest she herself were to bump into somebody else. "Hello! Come to see what all the fuss was about?" She asked. "They're rather impressive, I would say."

Lasair hadn’t meant to bump into the girl when he was pushing for a view, but at least once he was next to her, he could see clearly. Offering her an apologetic smile, he glanced down at her sketchpad, impressed with the way she was capturing moments of the act. Art was never something he had excelled at and we was even worse when trying to rush as she had been doing. “Yes, and I agree,” he commented, trying to be heard above the music playing. “I’ve never seen this act before,” he added after a moment.
The lady balancing plates caught most of Lasair’s attention as he was impressed with the way she could move without a single plate wiggling. It looked like a gust of wind could send the stack falling off her head and crashing to the ground. He was enthralled, watching for quite a bit of time before movement out of the corner of his eyes stole his attention away. The girl was sketching again, this time it being one of the twisted up girls on the other side of the balancing one. “You have a talent for that,” he spoke to her, hoping it wouldn’t break her concentration too badly.

"Thank you, that's very kind!" she replied to the man's compliment. "I'm Veronika." She paused to shake his hand. "I just recently joined the CAEsAL Guild."
A nearby band, who Veronika wasn't sure was part of this show or a different show entirely, started playing nearby. It was very loud (once again, she was impressed by the performers, for they didn't even seem the slightest bit phased by the sudden, loud music. They simply continued on as if nothing had ever happened), and Veronika had to raise her voice a great amount in order to be heard. She prayed the band wouldn't stop playing in the middle of her sentence, and suddenly find herself in a situation with everyone silently asking themselves the question 'Why is that lady shouting?' She contemplated asking the regular mundane topics, like a comment on the weather, but if she was at risk for embarrassment, she might as well ask the questions she was curious about. "What's your name? Are you in a guild?"

In Lasair’s mind, the music playing across the way matched the rhythm of the performers here perfectly. Yet, the volume was a bit annoying since he was trying to have a conversation with someone. He’d have to manage though and share the hope that it wouldn’t suddenly stop, leaving one of them as the person shouting.
“CAEsAL? Congratulations on joining!” He was going to say more, but then it occurred to him that, perhaps, for a proper conversation they should leave the crowd and talk at a normal volume. And given that the performers weren’t changing anything about their act at the moment, perhaps that wouldn’t be a bad idea. Holding up a finger as if to say ‘wait a moment,’ he fished into his pocket and pulled out a couple of gold coins, dropping into one of the hats set on the ground. Then he waved over his shoulder for her to follow him as he walked out of the crowd (which proved to be a lot easier that entering it).
Free of the close proximity, he turned towards the new companion did a small half-bow. “Lasair Lupen, at your service, it’s a pleasure to meet you miss Veronika. How are you liking CAEsAL?” The question about whether or not he was in a guild of his own seemed to have slipped his mind.

Veronika followed Lasair out of the crowd, so that they could hear each other while speaking. She answered his question with, "I'm liking it very much! The Theater District is a very lively place. It's nearly impossible to be bored here, there is always something happening! Hopefully I will be able to bring my canvas and paints out here soon to sell some paintings and do live paintings, or portraits, but I thought I'd check the place out first." She didn't know what else to say on the subject, but luckily spotted something magnificent.
After they had walked away from the show, they had found themselves standing next to a stand selling small pastries with flowers on them made of frosting. They were crafted with such detail you could barely tell that it was actually frosting and not a real flower. She dropped two coins into the small tin bucket on the edge of the wooden counter, and picked up two of the pastries, handing one to Lasair for him to eat. "Here, you can have one." She admired the flower on hers for a moment. "Wow! These look so real!" she exclaimed excitedly.
"So what brought you to the Theater District today?" She looked up at the sky filled with the puffy, slightly grey clouds. She wondered if it may rain at some point later. It wasn't the nicest day ever (though certainly not a horrible one either), but the district was still full of people bustling here and there.

Listening to her excited explanation, Lasair smiled. And then the expression turned to surprise as she bought a pair of sweets for them. He looked down at the flower in his hand, not quite believing her when she claimed they weren’t real. His pastry was painted to be a yellow rose, but as he looked at the edges, he could see where the paint faded, revealing the fact that it was made simply out of edible material. Pulling it to his mouth, he took a small bite, just to be sure, before taking a bigger one and turned back to Veronika, answering her question.
“I was looking for something to watch, something I hadn’t seen around here before, or at least not in a long time. Did you come here to sketch? Do you plan on turning those into drawings?” he asked, taking another bite of his pastry. He had a tendency to turn conversation away from himself, but it was just a habit.

Veronika took a bite of her pastry. Hers was a pink flower, and tasted slightly like sweet strawberries. She shook her head to Lasair's question with a smile. "I'll turn them into paintings. Sketching helps me with the shapes of things, and remembering the scenes. I just have to remember the colours then, and from which direction the light was shining."
She took the last bite of her flowered pastry, brushing her hands together swiftly to let the few crumbs fall to the ground, hoping a bird would find them to snack on. "And, did you find what you were looking for? Any other interesting shows you'd never seen before? Besides this one of course!" She gestured to the show they had left. There was still such a crowd around it, you couldn't even see the show itself. The people in the crowd were so close together they seemed to make one big creature made of dozens and dozens of jackets, parasols, and skirts of every colour imaginable. The ladies with excessively sized crinolines or bustles had to line the outside of the crowd, striving to peer through the heads of the people in front of them to see, as they surely could never squeeze their way through the crowd with that attire. Veronika smiled briefly at the thought of it, thinking of how amusing it would be to see one of the ladies attempt it.

Smiling, he took another bite of his pastry, taking a moment to finish it before answering the question given to her. “I believe so. A new face to talk to is always refreshing,” he said with a nod, turning to gesture to the area as a whole and all the people within in. Some were moving, some standing, some performing, yet everyone looked like they had something going on; something to do.
“I also enjoy the fact that this place always feels so alive. We can just stop and look around and you’ll never know what you’ll happen to see. You found something to turn into a work of art out of it. I found some nice company. I’m not sure what else I’ll find from it though.” Chuckling a little, he looked back to Veronika and tried to gauge her reaction to everything he was saying. Perhaps she would be familiar with it given her talents in art.

Veronika listened to him while he spoke. "I agree!" Veronika said happily when he had finished. "There is always something to see here, and yes, a new face to talk to is always wonderful."
Contemplating what he had said, she started to notice even more things than before.
A squirrel on a fence was daringly trying to steal peanuts from a man who wasn't paying attention as he observed two ladies walking by. When the squirrel snatched one, his eyebrows raised in surprise, his moustache twitching irritably, and he shooed it away. It scampered off, its tail flying like a fuzzy banner behind it as it ran across the top of the fence.
Two young girls walked hand in hand, skipping down the street, laughing together at some joke Veronika couldn't hear at this distance. Their pigtails bounced with each skip.
Two men whistled a simple tune in sync while they spun a wheel that helped grind the flour for a lady baking bread down a few stalls from where Lasair and Veronika were standing.
It really was alive. Not just the shows. Everything!
The squirrel returned to steal another peanut from the man leaning against the fence. Once again the man was paying no attention. Veronika pointed this out to Lasair, covering her mouth with her hand as she laughed at the humorous situation.

As she turned her eyes to the crowd, he couldn’t help but join her. He saw an older woman stumble over a crack in the cobblestone, only to be caught by the gentleman walking with her. They laughed about it before continuing on their way.
Not far from them, there were a small group of children following behind a woman who looked as though she needed either a cup of coffee or a long nap. Perhaps both. Some of the children were tugging on her sleeves, mumbling things lost at this distance. She turned towards one of the attractions and pushed a couple of the kids forward. They became enthralled by the attraction; one of the jugglers had decided to stop by again. And as they watched the woman looked relieved.
Lasair was going to keep watching that group, curious as to why she had so many children with her, but then Veronika pointed off a different way, drawing his attention after it. Following the gesture, he saw what she was giggling at; a squirrel climbing on the top of a fence, inching its way towards the bag of peanuts possessed by a man. A grin grew on Lasair’s face as he watched. “My money’s on the squirrel,” he commented quietly, as if his voice could scare off the little creature from this distance.

Veronika nodded, agreeing with Lasair, as the moustached man still hadn't noticed the squirrel's return. Perhaps they should've alert him that he was about to be robbed by a rodent for a second time. Or, perhaps they should've just watch in amusement. Yes. It was only a peanut after all, and the squirrel was possibly very hungry.
As they watched, the squirrel plucked, not just one, but two peanuts out of the man's bag this time. It scurried a few feet away, but the man still hadn't seen and didn't even know he'd lost two peanuts. Veronika hoped the overall three peanuts would be a good snack for the cute squirrel. "You were right," Veronika laughed. "Squirrel, 3. Moustache, 0."

Lasair snickered, enjoying the show the squirrel was putting on for them. It was more entertaining than anything else at the moment at least. But, with the squirrel munching on its prize, it seemed that the show was over for the time being. There was a whole other bag of peanuts there, but as the man reached over to pull more out, the amount that was accessible on the top had dropped.
“Were you planning on doing anything else tonight? I didn’t mean to hijack your plans if you wanted to keep sketching various shows going on tonight.” He lifted a hand and scratched the back of his head, feeling a little bad as he realized she probably had her own things going on.
Post by Veronika Tallent on Aug 13, 2016 8:32:35 GMT
Veronika shook her head to Lasair's question with a cheerful smile. "Nope. No hijacking of plans was done." She smiled. "I was really only here to check the place out, and I brought my sketchbook along in case I saw something I would like to paint later on."
She realised with a start that he may be hinting he had to go, by apologising to her. "Have I kept you from something, though? I am sorry if I have done such a thing. Do you need to be somewhere?" She tilted her head slightly. Veronika hoped she wasn't being rude for either repeating his question back to him, or for keeping him waiting if that was the case.

A short half-laugh escaped his lips as she turned the question around back at him. “No, my only plans were to walk through here and then, hmm, perhaps head to a pub for a drink or two. Just to pass the time.” His eyes were aimed to the distance, lost in thought. “Or maybe I’ll take a walk through the district, perhaps pay a visit to an old friend. But no, I have no other commitments. At least, not unless walking with you to your next destination counts as one.” A kind smile came to his lips as he uttered the comment. It had been a while since Lasair let himself speak so freely around someone. It occurred to him that he missed it, the gentle flirting that is. Hopefully it wouldn’t be ill received by the short blond.
