Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Just figured I'd poke in here first before trying to make this NPC which is rattling around in my skull, and see if he's even possible...
Basically, wanna make a pure blooded Winged Anders male, who's undertaking his own little private war in Lodan against humans he feels have wronged the Anders community. Basically vigilante, but throw in murderer as well since he only protects pure blooded Anders, and views half-breeds as inferior and to be put to the sword to purge the taint from their magical bloodlines.
Literally since he likes to make weapons from ice magic. Mainly daggers, a pair of swords (hand and half style) and when feeling very theatrical, a scythe. He also only garbs himself in armour made from his frost magic, and tattered robes rumouredly made from the stitched together remnant clothing of those Anders who have fallen at the hands of human barbarity.
Would such abilities be possible with Frostmancy? Went over them earlier, and I think only the dagger bits feasible cus of Frostmancy III...
Had another one just pop up in my head as well... basically an Anders (havent decided which race yet) who has decided to try and take over Lodan, using an army of the undead, and is slowly gaining like-minded individuals who all share the same taste in Necromantic powers. This one could be like a campaign villain or something I dunno.
Tempted to make an NPC that is related to Ikuze although not sure how Lodan's political structure works...
The idea is that its this Baron, a lesser Baron or something or Baronet or something along those lines, who holds the viewpoint that Anders, and even half-Anders, are little more than creatures and beasts, not true beings. This even extends to those that he himself brings about through his use of dollymops.
He has in his "employ" 13 half-Anders, each one a specialist in a different branch of magic, with only one of them dabbling in all 12 schools.
2 Winged Half-Anders. One is kept locked in a cage as if they were nothing more than an oversized bird. The other is imprisoned in an Iron Maiden-esque steel angel in his private chapel, wings extended and everything, the eyeholes the only indication that something alive resides within. Each is branded with a mark on their shoulders that resembles a Bishop piece.
2 Cat Half-Anders. Both of which are kept in restraints and muzzles, treated like nothing more than oversized exotic cats. These have a brand on their shoulders, in the mark similar to a Rook piece.
The remaining 9 are General Half-Anders, in various states of abuse and degradation. 2 are lucky enough to be allowed the "illusion of humanity" as he puts it by working as a maid and butler for him. The rest... they are either living footstools, tables, or something for his guests to use as live-in dollymops. 8 of them are branded with a Pawn piece. The last is branded with a Knight piece and he is forced to serve as a horse living in his stables, used for trips around his estate.
His estate lies just outside Lodan so as to not draw too much attention to his practices.
Many of these poor unfortunate souls are this man's own bastard offspring from various dollymops, however he does not consider them of his blood or seed as they are not truly humans or beings in his view of the world.
He does not house them in this manner for sheer entertainment however it may seem to any and all on the surface that ever visit or have knowledge. The reason he has "gathered" these individuals or his "Pieces" as he calls them in private, is to stage a coup in Lodan, and take the throne for himself using these Pieces as his weapons. Why would they do this for a man who has tormented them so? Because he has had a man in his pay who so happens to work in modifying the behaviour of insane asylum inmates. Using the same techniques, these 13 have been conditioned that when the order is given, they will be released from their physical bondage and act out their depraved father and master's will.
All he requires is the final Piece. His last Knight. And then he can make his move to prepare Checkmate.
Bonus trivia, the choker Ikuze always wears? She got that from her doxy mother, who got it as a "token" from the customer who got her expecting.
Muahahahahaha
I maaaay need to see a therapist given this NPC

I think thats a little too dark for a playable NPC. Though if you want to use it as back story for Ikuze momma's back story that would be fine
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin
Had a thought occur as I was browsing DA... a Clockwork Doll that gains a form of sentience after getting struck by magical lightning from one of the beasts outside of Lodan after their owner decided to go on a hunting trip.
EDIT:
Alrighty, so how it would go is maybe something along these lines.
Initially struck by magic lightning, so of course owner would expect it to glitch for a while. Long pauses and such between commands given and commands carried out. At first that's all it would be, the machine trying to make itself obey the commands it has been given. But as the pauses continue, a stray phrase or such would leave the owners lips as a joke of sorts. "Its as if it's deciding if to do what I tell it to or not." That leads to a stray thought of its own, "I can decide?"
This would probably take the course of several IC months of course, not an instant thing. The question "I can decide?" rattles around in the metallic skull for a while, and then a chance to do such occurs when the lady of the house or the maid or something asks for an opinion, not really expecting an answer as they're more speaking out loud or something... But it replies. Could be something as innocent as "Which is better? The red or the blue?" or something along those lines. Little tiny things like that, until eventually they build up in the clockwork dolls mind that maybe, just maybe, it starts to think it truly is capable of deciding things.
The owner decides to go on another hunting trip, and decides to take the doll with him again, in case the lightning beast is there again and he needs something to take the fall for him. The doll says no and even dares to take a step back away from the door of the house that leads to the outside. It doesn't want to go outside into the forest again, doesn't want to be damaged again. A sense of self-preservation has acknowledged itself within her, despite the owner being understandably flabbergasted. The doll is torn, serve her owner as she is programmed to do... or protect herself from further damage, but in doing so, disobey her owner...
Taken to a repair shop to "fix" her. And of course then we can cue this moment
Thoughts?
