Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
It had been a while since the events in Castamere now - enough to get the paperwork settled and the ideas in order. But the images of that day were still printed in vivid colors into Edelweiss' mind. As well as the idea the redhead had just mentioned in passing back then. Now, sitting at her desk with a small tray of biscuits and tea sharing the space along a small stacked pile of books and papers, all that was left was waiting. She'd sent someone to call Elaine over to meet her when she has free time. It'd been a little over an year since she joined the guild, hadn't it? How time flies... With all the mess going on lately, it almost passed unheeded. Almost.

Elaine had been standing in her parents shop helping them arrange some books on the shelves when she was tapped on the shoulder. A CAEsAL agent was calling her to see her guild leader. The girl vaguely recalled Edel had mentioned she wanted to see her but she was also remembering that they were both trying not to get killed at the same time. Elaine excused herself from the house and walked out, pondering what all Edel would wish to talk about on the way to the Theater District. She could feel the twinge of a memory of her first 'chat' with Edel. It made her cringe just a bit. Getting chewed out was not the favorite legacy of her life. Either way she weaved through the Theater rather unnoticed, a trait she had realized was becoming more and more noticeable to her. The feline was actually beginning to enjoy the habit.
Elaine approached the room where she had first realized how much of an underground system that CAEsAL was. Rapping her knuckles lightly on the railing as she came into view. "I was told you wanted to see me?"

"I did." Edelweiss replied simply and with a small smile as Elaine crossed the door, then gestured towards the armchairs across from her desk. "No need to be nervous, I didn't call you today to nag your ears off."
She made a pause and waited till Elaine chooses whether to sit or not and where. "Hmmm... How long have you been in CAEsAL by now, Elaine? Do you remember exactly?"

"That's a relief!" She joked walking over to take her place in one of armchairs. She relaxed in it just a bit, comfortable in Edel's presence but still sitting up enough to be respectful. "How long have I been in the guild, oh...hmmm. A roughly a year why?" It was a bit surprising how long she had actually been in the guild now that she thought about it.

"Well, you're 17 now, right?" The redhead mentioned with a soft chuckle, then reached out a little red envelope with the usual golden geared key of CAEsAL on the front. "You never came to get your annual bonus for your work. Even though it was the first. With the inflation and all around, I'd thought you'd be more excited for it."
"Admitedly though, that's not all the reason I wanted to have a talk. I have a proposition for you."

"Oh, thank you!" She took the red envelope and ran her fingers over the seal on it. She had forgotten entirely about bonuses. She smiled gratefully, because even at her age and with her life the war was making everything ricidulously harder to do, especially shopping. Only her leader would have to forgive the lack of leaping for joy or anything. However she glanced back up as Edel mentioned a proposition. "Do tell?" She asked leaning forwards to rest her elbows on her knees.

"You must have noticed Stephen has not been around lately, right?" She figured it was better to get straight to the point.
"You can rest assured he's not dead, nor injured, and didn't retire either. But he's not in Lodan. We were in dire need of intel outside for certain things, mainly regarding on guaranteeing our own personel's safety, and he was the only one I could send for the task. But it also means his role in the guild is currently vacant. There's far too much work in CAEsAL and I can't afford to stay without a Second-in-Command for much longer, which is why I need to find a fill-in for it, even if temporary. Do you get what I'm saying?"

Elaine tilted her head a bit. "Stephen is occupied and you need someone to fill in for him. And I believe you're implying that I be the person to take his place while he is absent?" She raised her hand. "That or you want me to help you find a new replacement?" The feline was figuring it was more towards the first of the two options rather than the latter but it never hurt to make sure she understood exactly what it was Edel meant. She half wondered what was happening to all of Stephen's beloved cats.

"The first one, yes." She stated with a grin. "After what I've seen in Castamere, you seem like you could do a good job as a Second. Would you be willing to give it a try?"

"Of course! I'd be honored!" She exclaimed rather excitedly. "You sure Stephen won't get jealous?" Elaine teased thinking of the grumpy noble with a certain attained fondness. It was hard to think of him as a grouchy, stone-hearted person after you caught him with his head in a cat door having a conversation with an adorable gray fluffball.

At that response and question, Edelweiss couldn't help but chuckle. "Stephen isn't being demoted, he has no reason to be jealous. Though who knows, if you do a really good job and impress me, we might make this arrangement more permanent and then you two can help each other by dividing/sharing tasks."

Elaine nodded, grinning, and looked around for a moment at the room. "Is there anything I need to do now?" She was undoubtedly eager, and if there was something to be done she would have no problem doing it. She reached up and pulled her hair over her shoulders just to get it off the back of her neck for now.

"Start small." The redhead said, the pleased smile still on her face while patting the pile of papers on the desk. This part is where Elaine's fondness for reading would come handy. "These here are the maps of CAEsAL's passages and tunnels, plus our hidden offices and important locations. Stephen knows them like the palm of his hand. Since you also make use of rooftop routes you don't need to memorize it all, but it'll still be handy to know some and how to find them."
"As for experience, I'll guide you through your new duties as a Second-in-command until you get used to them - the first one is how to lead a trial, and we'll have one happening soon, so be ready. I'll be counting on you."

Elaine perked up in her seat, green eyes trying to glimpse at the papers under Edel's hand. Memorizing these probably wouldn't be as hard as it sounds. She would learn as many as she could and then eventually she would learn them all. She looked back up to the redhead as she mentioned guidance. That took off some of the nervous weight Elaine didn't realize she had. She would conduct trials for new guild members as a second-in-command. Although it seemed a tad worrisome to the assassin she wasn't about to let it get to her. The help with running it at first would not go unappreciated for sure. "I'll look at the maps and get as much as I can now, I'll learn them all eventually." As for the trials. "I won't let you down." She nodded as if affirming it.
