Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Let's hope for both our sakes she got enough resin to last her a lifetime on that last adventure," she answered back with a genuine smile. She could also appreciate the offer for an escort in the woods, and was glad to see the kid was smart enough to put a price tag on it. Then she went a little stiff at the mention of her other clothes, fearing Danny's voice would carry at least far enough to the Commander sitting one chair over. Trying to laugh it off as though it were no big thing she adjusted her belt and teased back "at least I can still wear this piece, since it matches the trim of my dress."
She chanced a look across to the military man before averting her eyes to the books before her. She made a small fuss over which one to choose, then wrapped her hands around one. "How much?"
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin
If he heard, he made no notice of it. What outfits a baronies chose to wear were beyond his concerns, though he considered that she would look lovely in whatever outfit she might deem find herself in. His thoughts, at that moment, however were more on whether he should leave and put all this cavorting behind him, or if he should wait for the boy to leave so they might continue their conversation. Was she in trouble? Did she need help? He'd watched the reaction on her face as she'd looked around the bar following his last few words. She'd undoubtedly seen someone she recognized or rather she'd seen someone she hoped would not recognize her. With that sword on her hip, she undoubtedly could take care of herself given a violent altercation, but was there something else going on here?

"Well, I'm usually lookin' ta make a little somethin'... profit, ya know? Can' just keep gettin' 'nough to eat. Need ta start savin' up an' all that..." Danny scratched his head before pulling his scarf up again. "Hmmm... 'ow 'bout, fer the entire book, enough fer a week's comfortable livin'?" Danny cocked his head to the side as he waited for his reply.

It seemed a fair price, and might actually have the effect of keeping Danny out of the woods for at least a little while. "Done," she said, shelling out the golden coins with the queen's insignia on them. "Here we have enough EMP to comfortably last you a week in the city." She lifted her voice a little meaningfully on the end of her sentence, hoping to inspire the lad to stay in town, where it was safer.
"Oi, bless my stars, it's her! Hey, Tod see there!" Hell in a breadbasket... she turned and peeked over her shoulder to find her fathers footman pushing in peoples chairs to try and get past each table to where she was at the bar. Her hand flew to her hip and tightened around the hilt.
"I'm afraid I've worn out my welcome," she gritted through her teeth, truly displeased that rumors would get around she had been spotted here. Here of all places! She didn't have time to grab the book or apologize as she slipped off her stool and pulled the hat off another womans head to cover her own. The woman squeaked her displeasure and Caitlin turned eyes on Danny and the Commander, only briefly, begging wordlessly not to be stopped or turned over to her fathers men.
The chime dinged over the door as she made to push it open.
"Hey missus, STOP! Stop!" the other men gave chase.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. He should have stopped her. It was his duty to uphold justice in this city and stem the tide of chaos. What did it matter if she was a baroness running from her father, what did it matter that their short conversation had intrigued him. He was cold, and hard, and unforgiving, all his men whispered that behind closed doors where they thought he could not hear. Yet, even as the woman screamed 'theif' he found himself letting her pass with the stolen good to intercede before the men could reach the door and go after her.
"Halt!" he said, holding out his hand in the internationally recognizable stop signal, while his other hand sat atop the simple firearm that was currently resting in its holster. Never leave home without it. "I would trust you both to let this matter rest. I have a personal distaste for those willing to chase a lady from a bar, or anywhere else."

Danny watched in surprise as Caitlin bolted. He stared in even greater surprise when the guard stepped between her and her pursuers. That was interesting. "I'll, ah... I'll jus' be goin' then, yeh?" Danny reached up, snatched his books, and began trying to thread his way out of the building. "If ya ever change yer mind, ya'll come find me, yeh?" Danny called out to the guard as he left the building.

Caitlin ducked into the nearest alley and watched from the corner of the shadows to see who would follow her out the door. It was a surpise to her when the first to follow turned out to be Danny. She waited to see if the kid would turn her way or not, if he did she would try and snatch him into hiding with her, to avoid anyone else abducting the boy for questioning since the two had been seen together.

Danny turned away from the doorway and began making his way down town. He wasn't going that fast, so he noticed the faces as they passed. And none of them were out of ordinary in the slightest. Danny turned to take a shortcut, which led him past a certain alley when he was rougly abducted. He let out a muffled yelp and immediately tried to grab his attacker's balls. Well dung... no balls... Danny struggled as he tried to escape, but didn't seem to be getting anywhere with his efforts.
"We meant nothing by it Sir," The larger of the two men spoke up. He was dressed in a hybrid of finery and common clothing, meaning he hadn't been born to the finer things in life. Perhaps stolen goods filched off those unwise enough to wander into areas best left to those who knew how to blend in? It didn't matter, unless these two gentlemen decided to start something. There was no need to harass the Baron's men more than necessary.
"Of course you didn't," Faolan responded, his hand still resting on the stock of his pistol, "and I believe you owe some money to the establishment for the drinks you were about to run out on."
The thinner of the two men grumbled something under his breath at that but the heaver man cut him off before the Commander could challenge the distasteful tone. "Of course, though if you do happen to see the girl again, Commander, perhaps you could let her know that the Baron is quite worried about her. It's been some time since she left home."
"And you, of course, being a fine upstanding citizen wouldn't dare think of dragging her back to her father for a chance at some esteem in the Baron's eyes?" Skye looked at him as a dog might look at a strange creature scampering across his path.
"Of course not," the heavy man responded before dragging his companion back to their table. Skye waited a few minutes, tipping the bartender in the process before he left the establishment as well. He paused, long enough to make sure the men stayed where they were, before he moved on towards the Barracks. He'd wasted enough time on frivolities today. Though, that didn't stop him from looking for any sign of the girl as he walked away.

"Nice try kid," Caitlin hissed at Danny's attempt to incapacitate her from between her legs. No use getting all grabby hands there though, much to her own relief. Once the boy realized whose voice it was and eased up on the struggle, Cait released him and turned her back on the opening of the alley to look the blue eyed blonde over. His eyes shown in the shadows revealing too much of his blood to be good for him in the city. "You might want to avoid standing in shadows around the natives in these parts, since your eyes give you away so readily- tsk tsk I know, I know I'm the one that dragged you into here, but I well... I didn't want anyone associating you with me and targeting you for questioning or otherwise."
She peeped her head out just for a moment to try and see if they were being pursued when she spotted the commander. Her eyes caught a glimpse of his and she ducked back behind the wall. "And speaking of the natives..." she chuckled nervously as she tried to lead the kid further into the back alley. It was one thing for her to be caught down here. So long as she didn't bleed on anything none would find her secret, but for the Anders with the tell tale eyes they'd have a harder time being as conspicuous. Too late she realized that instead of urging him further into shadow, she should have been shooing him out of them.

Danny glared at Caitlin with what could only be described as the look of a furious kitten. "A li'l warnin' might be nice..." Danny dusted himself off as Caitlin explained what she did, and sighed at her. "Don' remember much, do ya?" Danny pulled his goggles down over his eyes. The leaded glass worked wonders on the luminescent glow he cast, and as long as nobody got too close, made him look normal. "I ain' as dumb as ya actin' right now."
Danny pulled his coat down and did his best to clean up his appearance. Or... well... perhaps not clean so much as adjust his attire. "So what now, Mizz Ki'napper? If ya don' wan' me bein' caught fer questionin', then where d'ya s'pose I should be goin'? Ain' time fer a wood run fer another few days." Danny crouched down to pick up his journal, and slid the book into one of his massive pockets. "I don' s'pose ya been plannin' this out, 'ave ya?"

"Well aren't you a clever boots," she commented after he pulled the goggles down over his eyes. "And I'm relieved to hear you wont be heading back to the woods just so soon. And since you've already stashed the journal I bought," she noted without even the slightest hint of anger, "You might want to try selling that thing a second time and stay out of the woods for an extra week. That would be my more long-term plan since you bothered asking." Even as she did all this chattering, she kept looking around for a cellar door or fire escape ladder.. Anything to avoid the pair of them coming out either end of the alley and being caught. Of course, Danny was free to go as he pleased, since the only other bar hopper on their heels was the commander and not of her fathers men.

"I ain' tryin'a rob ya. Ya paid fer it then left... so I figured I'd give it to ya when I saw ya again." Danny watched the woman for a moment. "Why don'tcha go up?" Danny pointed at one of the walls. The wall itself looked smooth, and near impossible to climb for the most part. The bricks used to make the building gave maybe the first knuckle's length as room to grab. "I mean, if yer lookin' fer a way out..." Danny tugged his scarf up higher and moved closer to the wall. "Far as stayin' outta the woods? Can'. Trackin' a nasty bugger... tryin' ta get a good entry on em." Danny turned and flattened his palm against the wall and curled his fingers as far as he could fit. He took a deep breath, and pulled himself up the tiniest bit with a quiet grunt.

"right. wall climbing. great..." Caitlin tried to sound sure of herself but couldn't help if the words came out overly skeptical. She watched as Danny examined the wall and picked a handhold to give him a boost on up the side of the building like a insect ignorant of the laws of physics. She didn't start hunting for a good groove for herself until after the slighter figure got himself a good couple bricks off the alley floor. "well then... here goes," She muttered, her mood a little soured by the idea that despite getting paid for his books the kid insisted on going back into the forest and tempting the grim reaper to make mince meat of him. She toed a protruding brick with the tip of her boot before balancing her weight on the slight ledge and reaching her hand up for a handhold. She heaved as best she could to lift her weight with her scrawny arms until she could reach another foothold that would fit her toes.
Glancing up, she saw the vertical rise of the building stretch before her eyes and she sighed heavily. This was not going to be her favorite exercise ever. But it certainly beat getting caught by the head of the EIRALs at the least. She kept climbing.

"Come on, come on... keep up!" Danny looked down over his shoulder with a playful giggle. He was halfway up the wall when he stopped to take a breath. "You remember what you did out in the woods, right? 'cause I remember... Well. Do it again, but backwards. When ya get here, that is." Danny launched himself off the of the wall, fell for a moment, and then leaped off of a silver-lighted platform that appeared beneath his feet for a split second. And another. Three... four... and done! (Haste I) Danny was standing on the roof of the building that made up the other side of the alleyway. "Easy, yeh?"
