Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
"Right... blonde, bits of red, carries a sword..." said Ikuze slowly as she took a mental note of who they were looking for. "Um... she a boozer, basher or dancer Baroness? Just... would make it um... a little easier to look if knew where would be more likely miss..." she asked, her mind going over the various places she'd done some gigs at before tonight, although she was more than certain that after tonight she'd be lucky if she even got kicked out of the doors let alone a gig in this part of Lodan ever again.

Caitlin considered Ikuze questions for a serious moment before exhaling a heavy sigh. "You know, I think this may not be the best time to search for her. How about instead we call it a night, get your doctored up properly, and see about getting you another gig in a more... reasonable establishment?"
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin

A long sigh of irritation escaped the young patricians lips as he walked down the streets. His father was in on of those moods tonight. The man had been drinking a fierce amount of Rum that night due to one of his old battle wounds acting up on him. This lead to him feeling the need to lecture his son about how he was never going to get himself a girlfriend if he did not go out once and a while. So, in order not to get forced into punishment filled training with his militaristic commander of a father, he decided to go out. Not like he was going to be looking for a girlfriend. There were not many good picks anyways in this silly little city, at least from what he had seen so far. And he had been reading such a wonderful book about Eastern technological advancements in medicine.
So here he was, walking the streets with nothing to do. He would have to stay out until his father went to sleep- the man would interrogate him on whether or not he found himself a madam and that was a conversation he did not wish to have. The theater district was busy with people tonight. A street performer was leaned up against a nearby bar, attempting to play something on his beat up violin. Attempting was not the right word for what the fellow was doing: Failing at playing the violin was probably a more accurate word for it. The terrible music grated on Stephens nerves and he grimaced unhappily. "Oh for the love of the Queen, just stop!" he snapped loudly at the man. Thankfully the music stopped. Unfortunately, the man opened his foolish mouth and started to talk "Whut ya 'ean! Ya sayin' Ah can't play ma instrument?" the bloke snapped back, stomping over to Stephen. "That is exactly what I am saying. That instrument is probably not even yours. Most likely you found it in a garbage can and thought you could make some money with it. judging by the looks of your clothing you probably have not been doing to well in making any sort of a living. No one would higher you anyways; your English is terrible, you smell like a dog and look like one for that matter and you can not even play such a simple device as this" he responded all in one breath, a disgusted look on his face as the street urchin neared him. The man stood dumbfounded for a second, cruel words processing in his head. Then anger flashed across his face and he threw his instrument at Stephen. Peasants, always reverting to violence when angered, never having a good enough comeback.
Stephen caught the instrument before it smacked into his face "Oh? You want a lesson on how to really play? If you insist, I suppose I could show you true musicianship." With a fluid motion Stephen reached down and picked up the bow then positioned the instrument under his chin and began to play. If there is one thing Stephen enjoyed it was showing up other people. He would thank his father later for forcing him to learn violin for all these years. Stephen brought the bow across and listened to see if it was in tune. Just as he thought, not even close. The E string practically sounded like an F. Stephen busied himself with tuning the device. The foolish peasant smirked triumphantly at him "See! Yeu can't even play tha instrument! Yeu high 'nd mighty Nobles don't know-" Stephen cut him off and started to play his song.
Don't see why not Just gotta remember this is before the Hearts thing so Ikuze's never met Stephen etc blah blah. Gotta love them timelines
Ikuze nodded at the woman's suggestion before her ears caught something on the wind. Her fingers tightened around her guitar's neck. "Oh it's on..." she said quietly before recalling the Baroness' presence. "Um... sorry... just got um... one thing to take care of..." said the thief before she stood up, wiping her lips with the back of her other hand and stepped out into the street, and strummed out a power chord, loud enough to be heard over the violin. "Hey! Why dont'cha pick on somebody your own size eh?" she asked with a grin to match the violinist's smirk. With that said, she let him finish his song first, before she immediately let her own fingers fly over her strings, her eyes not once losing sight of the man. As bad as the first man's playing had been, you didn't just step on them like this guy had.

Edelweiss was not sure why Stephen loved the Theater District so much, but she had already figured in her mind that he did anyway. After all, what other reason would have brought that novice of hers into that place so many times during the open clear day even considering he seemed to have high class roots? Saying nothing at first while she watched the violin play along the small crowd that was forming and starting to throw in money, she caught sight of the poor real player. The guy was just standing there staring at Stephen with a look that mixed anger, frustration and flabbergasted disbelief, and she stuck a couple coins into his hand and whispered "For giving me a great show. A noble doing a street performance is not a thing one can see anyday."

People were actually throwing money at him? This was not a street performance!! He was about to say so when a guitars strings twanged loudly over the violin. Stephen's smirk turned down into a frown when he spotted his challenger. This girl had the gall to try and out do him? He was not stepping down to this one. "You are a midget. In no way are you my size. But if you wish to see who the better musician is then fine, have it your way." he took a deep breath, repositioned his bow then started up again, playing his first cord loudly so it cut off the guitar. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KaYzgofHjc don't listen to the whole thing DX it's 33 minutes long. just at least until 3 minutes in or less if you wish ) Bach's Allemande hung in the air as he played the haunting piece. He was surprised that he still remembered it, since he had learned it a few years ago; It had been an extremely difficult piece for him to learn at the time though. The teacher had said something along the lines that it lacked emotion- correction, how he himself lacked emotion- so it had been a bloody hassle in the end for him. How he dealt with that "lack of emotion" was by thinking of one of his favorite play's, "Romeo and Juliet". There was in no way that he would admit it but that play moved him, as most of William Shakespeare's works did. Just the heart breaking tale filled him with a sort of longing sadness. So, that is what he thought of when he played the song. Funny how a simple written play could move him to emotion but actual human interactions were lost on him.
"I'm not a midget!" exclaimed the thief before pouting at the man as he began to play. Wouldn't even wait for me to finish my drat piece. she silently fumed as she waited for the man to finish. She let the music hang in the air once he had finished drawing the bow across the strings, and listened to the crowd's applause at his piece. Ikuze tipped her head. "Alright, not bad. But, I wonder... how well can you multitask?" she asked. She took in a breath of her own, her foot tapping out the beat. First came the chords, and then she let her voice spill out across the crowd.
As she played and sang, not once did her eyes leave her opponent, not once did the grin leave her face as the words left her lips. True, her piece wasn't as tranquil or calm as his one had been... but right now she wasn't in a calm or tranquil mood. She even threw him a little wink when the kiss and make up line came around, her grin widening at the possible reaction.
At the end of her song, the little thief girl gave a mock curtsey towards the man as she regained her breath and let her fingers rest a little.

He had to admit, the girl was skilled. Not like he would say that out loud. When the girl winked at him he narrowed his eyes and frowned. Was she teasing him? She certainly knew how to play the crowd though. They cheered loudly once she finished her song, tossing money over in her direction. Such an annoying bunch of people. "That was good, I suppose. But the way I see it, It is wise not to try and split one's talent for neither would be their best if one did. I would rather focus on perfecting one then almost perfecting two talents." And with that he raised the instrument again and started his piece. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op7GsUAiRnM it technically starts 0:55 seconds in but meh, his ornamentations is nice! ) His eyes closed in concentration as he focused on the music. As he played he unknowingly started to move along with the music. Lost in the song, he forgot about the people watching him. When the melody sped up (2:30) suddenly he grinned to himself, enjoying the music. When the song turned playful (4:10) he opened an eye to smirk at the blue haired, but the smile was not full of malice as it was before. This was actually pretty enjoyable for him, being able to show off his skills with another skilled- *ahem* another some what good musician. He finished the song with a flourish, opening his eyes once again. He turned to the girl and raised an eyebrow, imploring her to try her best.

What one does when they watch a great show? They clap, in applause to the ones who entertained them. And that's what Edelweiss just started doing, both for Stephen and Ikuze, because drat they're good! The most of music she could play were a couple piano little songs that her father had taught her when she was little, which was basically the same as nothing compared to that musical battle.

Ikuze shrugged at his suggestion. "Guitar alone doesn't get much coin." she said before he set off into his next piece. She smiled back when he smiled at her, knowing that he was finally in the rhythm. Finally in the heart of the beat and music. When he flourished and finished, she put her guitar across her back and joined in the applause. "Well played. I'll reply of course, but eh, think we'd best call it a draw after that. Don't think that's got another round in it." she said, pointing at the violin in his hands which looked like it was about ready to come apart, even more than it had done before the musical battle had begun.
The thief pulled her guitar back to in front of her and opted to play a slower piece this time, with no lyrics to go with it. It wasn't a very long piece, and it wasn't that energetic compared to the last two songs she'd blasted out. But, when she played, the crowd hushed as they listened. She played it once more after the initial finish, since she didn't want the music to end so soon like that... but as the last chord trailed off into the air, the crowd of vagabonds, cutthroats, merchants, civilians, dollymops, all walks of life simply stood there and then quietly clapped as one might have expected to hear from the more genteel patrons of an orchestra house. Ikuze smiled and gave a curtsey to Stephen, before starting to collect the coin that had been thrown in her direction, putting it all inside her guitar through the hole. Well her bag was still with the Baroness after all last she'd checked.

The girl was right, this violin probably would not last one more song. He nodded and stepped back a bit, letting her be in the spot light. Her song was beautiful; he always did like slow songs better. Once she finished he tucked the violin under his arm and applauded lightly with the others. As she curtsied to him he bowed his head, a slightly amused smile on his face. The original owner of the violin was about to sulk away when Stephen turned to face him, his smile dropping into a disapproving frown. "Where exactly do you think you are going?" the man glared at Stephen and was about to reply but the young patrician cut him off "Do not tell me that you were just going to leave your mess on the streets here." he said with an unamused look, gesturing to the coins scattered on the ground near his feel. The man's eyes widened once he realized what Stephen was implying. Without a second the thought the man dropped to the ground and began to pick up the coins, scooping them into his pocket. "I hope you do not mind, but I will be taking this. Not like you or anyone would get much use out of it now." Stephen turned back to the blue haired girl giving her a slight frown when he saw her stuffing the money into the instrument "You will damage your guitar if you keep that up. It certainly would not do you any good if you break it. It would be a shame if someone with your skills did not have an instrument to play on. Than again, you could always just sing on your own." With that he turned on his heels and walked away, tucking the violin and it's bow back under his arm. That was the best compliment he had ever given someone. This night had turned out to be pretty interesting. He was not in that foul of a mood anymore.

After the show ended and the crowd started to dismiss itself, Edelweiss still remained there for a while - her posture relaxed with both arms behind her back while her own hands played with each other. She was in a quite good mood, and while Stephen walked away (having kidnapped the poor ancient violin for it to expire its final accords somewhere else) the redhead turned to look back at Ikuze. "That was a really good spectacle. I don't think I saw you around before though... are you a newcomer? Or maybe a wandering musician?"

Caitlin watched in fascination as Ikuze traded musical rounds with the other instrumentalist. They had gathered quite a crowd and by the end of it, the baroness face hurt from smiling so much. She patted Ikuze on the shoulder when she called it quits and tossed in some coin of her own.
"That was remarkable, what fun!" she cheered, lost in the moment, her spirits lifted.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. The thief girl suddenly found herself the center of attention and immediately blushed. "Oh umm... no... not a newcomer sorry... I tend to um... well try to get gigs in the um bars and stuff umm... miss.." she judged, if only because of the hip proportions. "That is umm.. whenever I'm er... not playing down um in the slums miss..." answered Ikuze finding herself very self-conscious right now in front of two well-dressed women, although the red-head dressing like a man threw her off a little.

"Oh umm... no... not a newcomer sorry... I tend to um... well try to get gigs in the um bars and stuff umm... miss.."
"...Edelweiss. People usually call me Edel though." She told her name with a chuckle after Ikuze seemed so awkward trying to find what to call her. But despite that the blue-haired girl guessed her gender (or well, her butt's gender) right, and most people didn't at first, that warranted a few extra points to her image in the redhead's eyes. Though sorry if her pants scare you, Ikuze, but they're comfortable and way cheaper and easier to move with than a gown skirt, so Edel has no plans to switch her attire for something more 'feminine' any time soon.
"Well if no one hired you definitely yet, then you have not been getting gigs in the right places. You're good enough to play at the stages - and even made a duet with the lovely pocket that likes to frolick around the District." If she had been indeed on a fine stage that might have given enough money for Ikuze to stop working for a week.
She then turned around when heard a familiar voice also congrating Ikuze, and instantly recognized that honey-colored hair and blue eyes. "Heya Cait, nice to see you here too! Came for some casual fun? ...Ah, sorry, is she with you?" If Ikuze is, then better Caitlin tell Edelweiss; because if not then the redhead will be insisting on 'enlisting' the girl into CAEsAL's musicians without even knowing she's already member of another association.
