The tip of Kalum's ears turned red at the mention of 'girl problems'. He had a sister and knew very well what the elder meant and was suddenly reminded of the awful moments Alice endured her own 'girl problems'. Those were the only times he was never upset with her if she ever dared to eat his sweets since he knew she never really liked them to begin with. "Ah, yes," he smiled lightly. "That is a shame. I hope she feels better. She is a kind woman--remembers just the way I like my coffee."
"Oh, thank you, dearie," the woman's reply came when she finally looked through her belongings to make sure it was all there.
"Of course, miss Beckett, do be careful." He gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder then stepped away after saluting the shop keep. The man who had been behind the counter went to assist his companion as the other fled to get back to his duties after being scolded by the Mountain. The next person they checked had been a mistake or a stroke of luck. Kalum was not sure yet. The soldier, this one with brown hair, had bumped the table by accident and spilled the drink of a man that the blonde was asking questions.
"Are you serious? You military idiot! This was a good coat! You nitwits can't do anything right ever, no wonder scarface there got all cut up. How the hell are we supposed to be safe when we got a blind idiot walking into tables, a fool who can't understand my words as I am saying them, a loser with a lazy eye carrying a bow, and a walking canvas of failed parries? Do any of you even know how to use those weapons you carry?"
What the other two did, Kalum could care less. They were cadets and he could easily stop them before they did anything. He was perhaps grateful that they were in shock to allow him time to step over and get in the way. "Back, both of you," he called to them as they raised their hands to strike the man. The one Kalum was truly worried about was Andronikos. Seeing the anger that welled beneath him at all times was alarming enough. Having something to provoke him was not something Kalum wished to endure today.
