Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Sure, will do." She didn't see why not. The "pearls" might be slightly more difficult to meet since neither of them were actually her workers, particularly Cait, but she could probably find Ikuze if put some effort into it since most her sources confirmed of the blue-haired (although often wigged) girl performing as a singer in the Theater District. And Edelweiss could also start it by introducing Lasair to the "cat" if she can't find the girls. Stephen really needed to make more friends, that utterly dazed face he had made at being called one by her some time ago had been depressingly sad.
And well, since Lasair had so kindly offered to buy a whole new box for her... "Hmmm I'm thinking of half strawberry jam, and sugar glaze for the other half."

“That sounds like an excellent decision,” he answered in regards to the doughnuts with a smile. Walking over to the counter, he placed the order and turned back to Edel. He was only getting one treat, an orange cake doughnut, among her entire box. Had to save a little bit of money, after all.
“So how did you come to meet so many nobles? That’s not the kind of opportunity you get everyday,” he mused. If she were, in fact, a noble that would make sense, but he had a feeling she wasn’t. So what kinds of things did she do to run into so many of them?
Post by Edelweiss Fjäril on Jul 7, 2015 16:54:25 GMT
"Hmmm... You have heard of CAEsAL, I suppose." Edelweiss started with for an explanation while Lasair was placing their order, considering the male redhead didn't seem to be a foreigner nor unused to Lodan in the least.
"I'm the leader. And nobles in general flock into the Theater District facilities like birds flock towards bread crumbles, so I've met quite a few of them. Although there are a couple cases that are exceptions and I met through a series of odd coincidences of life." It was a simple answer, but was true.

He raised an eyebrow at Edelweiss upon hearing that she was in charge of the very famous CAEsAL. Lasair himself had attended many shows put on by them. They were a force to be reckoned with if you got on their bad side.
Or a powerful ally if you were on their good one. With this new knowledge, Lasair made a very large mental note that he should do everything in his power to make sure that she did not dislike him by the time they parted company. “Congrats on making it to the top. Is having that job difficult? I’m sure you’re more than able to handle it all, but surely it isn’t always a cakewalk.”
Post by Edelweiss Fjäril on Jul 7, 2015 17:36:40 GMT
"Interesting description since cakewalking is kind of what we're doing right now." She snickered. "It depends on the point of view, I guess. Could be harder - but I hope it doesn't get."
"What about you?" Lasair's change of demeanor was subtle, but it was still there enough for her to notice. He seemed to turn more careful. There were varied reactions she received upon saying she was the leader of CAEsAL - some people were impressed, others curious, and some simply didn't care - but cautiousness was a peculiar thing that seemed commonly shared when people of the different Lodan associations (or guilds) met each other. An odd kinship, yet foreign of sorts. She wondered to where did Lasair pledge his loyalties, which of the other 4 options besides CAEsAL.
But so long as it wasn't the EIRALs, it shouldn't be too much trouble to get along.

He grinned as she caught his little pun, happy to get a laugh out of her. Her doughnuts were packed in their box now, so he shelled out the money for them all and handed her the box, keeping his own treat to snack on. Turning towards the door he addressed her question.
“Me? I help out around my parents’ shop. Haven’t found a job that I’m ready to settle down with just yet, so I’m enjoying my lazy days while I can.” Not everyone approved of his lifestyle, but he wasn’t going to change just because of some peoples’ opinions. He waited to see what Edelweiss’ reaction would be him.
Post by Edelweiss Fjäril on Jul 7, 2015 22:45:52 GMT
"I see." His response was met with a half-smile from Edelweiss. It hadn't sounded like a lie, but... "That's a nice way to go about life, I guess. Although not exactly what I had asked - I meant 'what guild are you from'." She mentioned before starting to nom on one of the doughnuts from the box.
Better not beat too much around the bush, right? At least at that point it seemed better: they were out the bakery again, and there weren't many people who could be eavesdropping on them around. Besides, Lasair already knew where she was from; it was fair enough that she'd ask where he was from as well.

Oh. She meant guild. Lasair bit into his doughnut and thought about how to answer this. All he really knew was that his guild was secret. And secrets were meant to be kept. “What makes you think I’m in a guild?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. There was nothing wrong with being defensive, he hoped. Danny had mentioned knowing about all the guild of Lodan, there were at least five with a possible sixth full of assassins, but only three were public. And MI wasn't a public one. Did the other guild leaders know about the secret guilds? He didn't know, and he didn't want to be the one to let the cat our of the bag.

"You act like you're in one." Edelweiss stated after swallowing the little doughnut bite. "It's a bit funny, but with a few exceptions there are things all in Lodan who belong to a guild have in common: Being an exception to the crowd, who can blend in but still have something different about them. Something in the air around them, or the way they act."
She chose somewhere to sit down, just the border of a fancy street fountain. "Most people would be embarrassed, humiliated or angry at being scorned or made fun by someone said of 'better standing'. Yet you enjoy the odd looks the city uppities give you - an amused outsider look to social expectatives, if you may. Also your reaction to when I told you I lead CAEsAL; you weren't impressed, nor mocking, just... analysing what you could gain from it, it seemed. That's all guild behavior." She made a hand gesture indicating the spot next to her if he also wants to sit down. "There's also the manner how we can kind of pinpoit other guild members in a crowd, even if we don't know they are such at first - like you found me. We simply call each other's attention, it becomes an instinct of sorts with time."
It was quite alright Lasair was being defensive. The two of them had just met at an hour ago at most. The defensive reaction just proved he isn't dumb. "That being said, MMs blend in almost perfectly smoothly so I can assume you're not one of them. And I know for a fact you're not in CAEsAL. So which of the others..." OtherS. She handpicked that last word carefully. If this man thinks there's only 3 guilds he should correct her by pointing out that following that elimination process the only remaining guild are the EIRALs, and she'll just laugh it off as a silly mistake of hers while also considering him a possible soldier in disguise or out-of-duty. If he doesn't correct her, or does but is really trying to gain something... that should leave two other options in the open. And perhaps she could gain something from this as well.

Staying quiet as she spoke, he took a seat next to her, continuing to listen. What she said made sense, the whole people of guilds flocking together. He hadn’t realized it before, but it made sense. Several people came to mind right away who also fit her descriptions. Lasair hadn’t stopped to consider that they all might be in guilds too. Now that was a whole new idea to address.
He sat up a bit straighter as she finished talking, thinking about his answer carefully. She had mentioned others. Plural. So she knew about the secret guilds; that made this a little easier for him. But didn’t mean he’d answer her question just yet. “Well, you are correct in the fact that I am not in Mingo’s, nor your lovely CAEsAL. I couldn’t be a guard if I tried either.” He was careful not to actually say he was in a guild, just that he wasn’t in those three. “If I may ask, what sort of guild do you think I’d fit into?”
Post by Edelweiss Fjäril on Jul 8, 2015 0:44:44 GMT
"You'd fit in either, actually. Even CAEsAL, although I'm not foolish enough to try recruiting members of other guilds." She responded with a shrug. "As for the remaining options, it'd depend mainly on your lineage. The ones who hold the ports and docks are a messy bunch, and full of misfits, but also quite equalitarian; you'd fit in like a glove no matter your skills, so long as you can be beneficial somewhat and bring in money. As for those who rule the edges... they gather magicians, the best of the kind, therefore not humans but Anders and halflings who took after their parent's magical inheritance. Glowing eyes and claws you don't have, but nothing can guarantee there are no wing marks hidden upon your back or that your blood isn't as dark as the ink of my pens."
She bit into the doughnut again and took her time appreciatively chewing the sweetness in. No, Lasair, descriptions aside you're not going to get the names nor initials o the remaining guilds out of her mouth. Both were still sitting somewhere in the open at the Central Square, and Edelweiss isn't an idiot. That was the limit of how much she was willing to tell for free. "Now that's enough though, and I've given you more than plenty information worth much more than simply which guild you belong to, don't you agree? I think I should deserve a clearer answer for this little question of mine by now."

“Very well, my apologies for being dodgy about it; the other guilds haven’t come up much in conversation—let alone what one should do if they encountered a leader.” He paused here, leaving just enough space to where it could sound like a new conversation was starting. “Both of my parents are Anders, but we’re lucky in the way that we’re not trapped in the slums. My parents run a nice jewelry shop. Nothing upper-class worthy, but we’ve helped a lot of lower class people get wedding rings for their loves.” He shifted in his seat a moment, looking into the distance. “I know that not everyone is as lucky as us, especially other Anders. So I decided to join a fight to try and change that. We don’t want to shed blood or do anything drastic, just change the way everyone thinks. She that Anders aren’t the lower race. But I can’t go telling just everyone I meet about that. Hopefully you didn’t mind listening to it.” She would understand which guild he was in then, that much was certain.

"Not at all." She replied with a small smile to his comment of hoping she didn't mind her little rambling. The message had been passed - MI, that much was clear, and some minor personal info about him along it, be it to appease her for the delay on an answer or just to fill in the explanation more. Either way it worked.
"It's rare to hear of noble goals when the vast majority of the population is scrapping around just to try and get by. But it's not bad, all change has to come from somewhere. This city has too many problems, and I do agree at least half of them might be solved or lessened if people stop seeing people as garbage." Nom nom nom, swallow. It was an odd conversation to have while eating sweets at the Central Square, but if anyone asked she'd admit she doesn't care. "About how talking to other guilds and leaders, it's always been my opinion it's better to make friends than enemies... So long as good or neutral relations bring more benefits than prejudice, of course. But you should probably seek your own leader for their opinion on the matter, since afterall they're not me." And also not Lasair himself, considering the manner how he had phrased it before.
"Moving onto a lighter topic, you did treat me a box of doughnuts, so I guess I do owe you an introducion to 'the noble pearls and cat'. Which would you like to meet first?" It would be easier to think on how arrange this meeting if she knows that detail.

“Thank you for the advice, it’s much appreciated.” He was sure that he didn’t sound like the second in command. That was to be expected. Lasair was still a novice, and he didn’t know about his promotion until the guild leader got back. So it goes, he supposed. It would be better if the other leaders, like Edel, assumed Jakobi or Ella had stepped in to be second in command. Meanwhile he’d sit back and do his best to learn the ways, in case he ever did have to step up.
He chucked as she brought up the nobility again. “I think I’d rather meet these pearly people first, but I’m sure they can be busy, so if cat-man is easier to find, he’d be just as fun I’m sure,” he replied with a grin while keeping an eye on the lady beside him. It had been a good call to approach her. A thought occurred to him as he sat there; when she spoke of the guilds, she hadn’t mentioned the group of assassins. Odd, did that mean they were hiding within another guild?

In all fairness to Lasair, novice or not no second-in-command Edelweiss ever personally met actually acted like a second-in-command, independing if she was made aware of their position or not. While Lasair acted like a common member, Stephen acted like a grumpy cat and Ikuze... (again) is Ikuze.
"Alright then, that should do..." She chuckled. "Any way or place I can contact you once I can arrange for you to meet?"
