OPEN TO ALL - SPECIFICALLY CAESAL
Maeve was looking a sight better now that her black eye had healed and there were no longer any visible bruises or cuts on the surface of her skin. She even brushed her hair and put on the least moth-eaten clothing she could find (and by find, she meant steal, because lets be honest: all of her own clothes are moth eaten).
Edel had asked her to swing by the District and ask around about a job with the CAEsAL. When she didn't take the invitation at face value, the guild sent a questionnaire after her and that got her thinking they were serious about hiring her. She quit her 2nd job at the seedier joint, and after a good bruising, was only working part time at her fist gig. She was ready to take the next step. Maeve walked into the Gears and Whistles gentlemans club and was hit by the volume of the music in here. This was no casual bar, this was a real entertainment joint. On the stage were a handful of scantily clad women doing some rather provocative dances. One stood on the edge of the stage in front of a mic and sang soulfully as the others performed their routine. Maeve watched them in awe for a moment before shaking herself free of the spell and approaching the counter.
"I'm 'ere bout a job." She said blatantly. The bartender looked at her, really looked at her like he was trying to see past the dirt on her face and the oiliness of her unwashed hair. Hey, she brushed it at least, didn't she?!
"Can you sing?" He asked and she deadpan stared at him.
"Are you forreal? No, aint never tried an' I didn't come 'ere for that. Edel asked me in for a position as-" she tried to explain. He was already ahead of her, or so he thought when he cut in;
"So you can dance?" She stared at him a little bit more.
"Aint here for that neither, I'm a bouncer." She told him with a swell of pride. He gauged her face for a hint of laughter, found none and his eyes went wide as saucers.
"No... Edel wouldn't send a lady here to bounce, did you see the size of the guy we got at the door? Sorry little miss but you're mistaken. You might want to try somewhere else, the Casino maybe?" He suggested, though he looked doubtful. It made her hesitate when she might have followed his advice and moved on to there. She narrowed her eyes at him.
"an I s'pose the guy at their door is as big as this one?" She nodded to the giant they had guarding the entrance. The bartender pursed his lips and nodded.
"Yes ma'am, its really too bad you don't sing or dance, we're missing a few,"
"Aye, I ne'er said I couldn't - I just said I wasnt 'ere for that!" she cut in angrily. It was all fluff, she wasn't sure she could sing or dance. He looked at her doubtfully. "Just gimme a drink and let me know when your boss comes round, an' lemme talk to him." She snatched a shot from the counter and went to sit in front of the stage. Panicking a little on the inside, she watched the girls closely, and tried to tell herself it wasn't that hard.
