Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Open to all
It was opening day and Gabriel looked proudly at his shop. It was finally ready for customers. From the street he could see a fine display of Pocket watches in the window to the right of his door. Rows of silver and golden watches shined with polished perfection. To the left of his door the window was without merchandise, instead it looked into his shop at the wall of longcase clocks standing proudly beneath a bevy of wall clocks. Over head, on a proud sign the store's name,Peerless Clockworks, stood proudly emblazoned. With a last glance at the store's facade he headed inside where he was greeted with display cases and racks showing off some of his finest works. Gabriel walked up to one of the racks and fussed with the order of the watches, rearranging the watches to better differentiate the higher priced models from the common stock. Today, everything had to be perfect. "I think it is time,"He mused to himself, Let the first day begin.
Gabriel walked to his door and slipped a small wooden sign in the window on his right. Finally his shop was open for business. A place where the good people of Lodan could find a timepiece or get clockwork mechanisms repaired. After doing one last check to make sure all was in order, Gabriel wandered into his back work area and sat down at his workbench. He had a couple more special items to build, and time to pass before customers would begin to arrive.

Danny flitted across the rooftops to the merchanics district, the parcel he was tasked with transportingr safely tucked into a satchel. There it was... that looked like the watch shop the young lady had mentioned.'Peerless Clockworks huh? Guess 'e ain' th'best at namin' stuff...' Danny's thoughts were pushed to the back of his mind as he began his descent from his building's roof. The boy hopped over an alleyway to the opposite building's wall and clung to it for a moment because the impact had knocked the wind out of him. After he regained his composure and made sure the delivery was safe, Danny let go of the building withone hand and began practically falling, his direction and descent controlled by his remaining hand and his feet. As he neared the bottom, Danny hopped off the wall back to the alleyway wall of the original building and dropped the rest of the way down. It was a five foot drop, max. The boy dusted himself off and looked around before he exited the alleyway and made his way towards his target destination. Danny opened the front door and called out into the building, "'ello? Deliv'ry fer Gabriel Sinne'!" Danny walked into the store and made sure to give all the watches and clocks as clear a berth as he could. Wouldn't do to break someone else's work. "Anyone in 'ere?" Danny waited for a moment... just a moment, before his curiosity got the better of him. He began walking through the store, and looking at some of the works, but never touching them. "Fellah sure does like 'is tickers..."

Gabriel looked up from his work at the sound of his door opening and glanced into the main room. How odd, Gabriel thought to himself, I don't remember scheduling a package for today. Gabriel got up from his workbench and walked out into the store's display area, moving slowly and steadily. As he entered the room Gabriel caught sight of a young boy in a coat much too large for him bent over one of the display cases looking at the watches inside. As Gabriel got closer and got a better look at the young man he could tell that the lad probably didn't spend much time in refined company or even indoors for that matter. His clothes were obviously meant to hold up to rigorous use and to withstand the often inclimate weather Lodan was known for.
"Good afternoon, lad."Gabriel greeted, "How can I help you today?"
Gabriel waited for the boy to answer, a courteous if neutral expression on his face.

Danny jerked up from looking over the watches with an embarrassed chuckle. "Righ', Well... ah..." Danny cleared his throat before he adopted something like a military position of attention. "Raven's Flock Deliv'ry service 'ere ta drop off a package fer one Mister Gabriel Sinne' from a young woman who wishes ta remain anon'mous." Danny took the package in both hands and extended it to Gabriel as he dipped into a bow at the waist to wait. Inside the bag is a small brass rose with a perfumed note attached to it that reads 'Best wishes, Mister Sinnett.' in curly and extremely feminine handwriting. Everything had the appearance of looking expensive, but to the trained eye it would be merely an imitation of high class society. Danny looked up towards Gabriel, his eyes just barely peeking out from beneath his hat. "If ya don' mind me sayin', tha' red 'ead ain' so bad lookin'... an' she seems ta 'ave takin' a likin' to ya." After delivering the package, Danny stood up and fished around in one of his satchels for a worn leather bound journal and a pencil. "Righ', jus' need'ja ta sign 'ere, 'ere, an' ere. Then this'll be yer transaction receipt." Danny pointed to a line on the first page of the journal, flipped the pages open to about halfway through the book when he indicated the second signing location, flipped halfway to the end from there for the third location, and then removed a neatly folded sheet of paper that was the receipt.

After accepting the package, Gabriel looked at it with a perplexed expression. Who would be sending me something? he wondered to himself. As he was signing the lad's book Gabriel gave the lad an appraising look. He could use a delivery boy to help out once in a while and perhaps the lad would let slip who the package was from if he stuck around. After taking his receipt, Gabriel flipped the messenger a coin and set the flower on the counter for later inspection. Before the messenger could go, though, Gabriel addressed him with a proposition.
"Before you go lad, if it's not too bold to ask," Gabriel began, "Do you do many deliveries around here? I could use a lad with quick feet to do the occasional delivery, if you are interested."

Danny snatched the coin out of the air and tugged his scarf up higher on his face. "Yeh, sure. I do deliv'ries all over the city. Ain' nobody more reliable'll 'n me. Jus' gotta tell me where an' when ya wan'it ta get there, an I'll get it there. Fer example, ya ain' 'ad the store open long, 'ave ya? The lady who hired me wan'ed ta getcha a good luck gift fer when ya opened. D'ya know any dainty l'il red'eads, or's she jus' crushin' on ya? Actually, nevermind. Ain' none'a my business." Danny rolled the coin over his fingers as he began wandering through the store. "Mind'ya, I've gotta bit of a... err, problem, when it comes ta fancy gadgets an' gizmos. Ya see, I ain' the most tech-smart so I try an' avoid the stuff if I can help it. Parts? No problem. But fer actual doodads? Gotta be packed nice an' safe... Never know what'll 'appen 'round some'a us funny folk, ya know? Like, them black bloods or the birdies. Hell, even the kitty-cats like me. We ain' so good with the tickin' an' the whirrin' things."

Gabriel pondered the lad's words a moment. The young messenger could only be describing andersweltlers. It became apparent to Gabriel why the young boy looked like he spent more time on the streets than in a home. While it would perhaps not give the best impression to have an ander under his employ, an able delivery person would save him enough trouble to make it worth his while. Now, thought Gabriel, If I can just find a way to halt that wagging tongue.
Gabriel decided to give the young ander a chance, after checking up on him of course, and see if the boy was as reliable a messenger as he claimed. "A kitty-cat, you say? Well it doesn't matter much, so long as you are as fast and reliable as you say. Though I do demand the utmost discretion. Pleasantries are often inescapable, but I'd hate to have my business divulged to any open ear. Many a loose lipped fool has lost his coin or his life, after all."
Gabriel moved slowly behind the counter and pulled out a small card and pen before hastily scratching out a note. When he was done, he sealed the note in an envelope held it out to the young man. "As a start, I'd like you to take this to the woman who sent you here. I may have a couple easy deliveries for you later in the week. Where might I find you if I need you earlier?"
Post by Danny Ravensdale on Apr 16, 2014 14:53:06 GMT
"Loose lipped? 'ave I told'ja anythin' impor'ant 'bout the lady who sent this b'sides she 'as red hair? An' do ya really think ya can track donw the righ' red 'aired girly by jus' that alone? I ain' stupid. I know 'ow ta work a deliv'ry bus'ness." Danny adjusted his satchel as he accepted the letter, which was then secured in a pocket in his satchel. "Righ', I can do that no problem. I'll be reportin' back 'ere upon deliv'ry fer paymen'. First things firs', though." Danny flipped open his delivery logbook again and quickly scrawled in the date and time on one line. "Sign 'ere, please." Upon receiving the first signature, Danny flipped the book open halfway and scrawled in a detailed description of the delivery, and gestured to a blank space next to it. "An' 'ere." Danny then removed a piece of paper that was the same style as the receipt. "Righ'..." Danny folded the paper in half and began scrawling out near illegible words. When he was done, he tore the paper along the crease and handed it to Gabriel. "This's yer copy. It'll 'ave the time ya made the transaction an' the price fer the run. Yer price'll be three europium fer this deliv'ry, ta be completed as soon as possible. I'll be returnin' ta collect payment upon completion of the deliv'ry. Qny questions?" Danny secured all of his stuff as he was speaking and tightened the straps on his gear to prevent it from flopping around. "If ya wanna find me, ya can usually get directions from someone sittin' 'round the corner'a Bangers an' Tulley Row, down near the slums. They'll know if I'm in town or no', 'cause I'm also a monster cartographer. Spend alotta time out in the woods."
Post by Gabriel Sinnett on Apr 18, 2014 18:31:05 GMT
"Now that you mention it, the amount of useful information was quite small. Very well, I have no questions, and I will have your payment ready upon your return."
Gabriel took his recipt from the youth and stored it in one of the counter drawers. Gabriel made a note to prepare for a trip to the slums. As little as he liked the run down district, he would very much like to check up on the trustworthiness of his new messenger. The young ander may not have let much slip to Gabriel, but that doesn't mean the boy didn't talk around those he was more comfortable with.
"If you spend that much time in the woods, try to be careful. It wont do to have my new messenger loose a leg."
Post by Danny Ravensdale on Apr 18, 2014 20:34:21 GMT
"I ain' gonna lose a leg. I'm the best there is out in'a woods. Ain' nobody who can do what I do. If ya'll 'scuse me, gotta run this fer ya." Danny bowed once more and quickly departed the shop. He took a deep breath before he got a running head start. Danny hit top speed as he charged a nearby building's wall. He took a leap at the wall and began scrambling up the wall. Up, up, up the wall he went and then he vaulted over the edge onto the roof...
Danny returned to the store fourty minutes after he departed. Danny entered the store again and called out. "Mister Gabriel Sinne', delivered yer message ta the lady." Danny adjusted his coat as he waited for his employer.

Gabriel set his tools down as he heard the messenger call out for him and pulled out his pocket watch. Twenty minutes to and from, Gabriel thought, That's quite the radius for this mystery woman to be in
Gabriel put his pocket watch away and slowly made his way out to the messenger, counting out coins along the way. After arriving he held out the payment for the young man to take.
"You are certainly quick with your deliveries, lad, I'll give you that. Though, if I have to go traipsing around the slums every time I need a delivery made it would defeat the purpose. Perhaps you should report to the shop in a few days. I should require your services again by then. If you perform as admirably then as you have today, we'll make the arrangement formal. By the way, you told me the name of your service but not your own. If we are to work together I can't just keep calling you 'Lad' now can I?"

Danny accepted the coins and quickly counted them out before he squirreled them away to various hiding places about his body. Danny adjusted his scarf and hat before he stood at attention. "M'name's Danny, sir. The lady 'ad a response ta yer delivery." Danny removed his book, the receipt, and the letter from his satchel. "I toldja sir, I'm the best in the business. I'll even race a motor bicycle or somethin' ta prove it." Danny grinned over the lip of his scarf. "An' I s'pose yer right 'bout havin' issues gettin ta me. I'll make it a habit ta stop by once in the mornin' an' once in the afternoon a'fore six. I'll prolly be in the woods after six anyways."

Gabriel nodded his head at the now named Danny's words and set about signing the book in the usual places. "That will be acceptable. You will be compensated for your troubles, of course."
After signing Danny's book and taking his new receipt, Gabriel pushed the letter into one of his pockets for later inspection. He had some work to get done before he could try deciphering the mystery of its sender. "I won't hold you up any longer today, Danny. I am sure you have other deliveries to get done. Though I will ask one favor of you before you go. I hope to have customers more frequently once word of my shop reaches the masses, so when you arrive just come to the workroom door instead of shouting from the front."

"'course. Anywho, I'll be takin' my leave now Mister Sinne'." Danny bowed once more before he departed. Once outside the shop, he removed a small map from one of his coat pockets and examined it for a moment. "Right..." The boy turned south and made his way to an alleyway. After taking a deep breath, he began scrambling up the wall, almost like a spider. He arrived at the lip of the roof and vaulted over before he set off at a run to his next destination.

"Peerless Clockworks... well, I suppose it would not hurt to give it a look." This was the first time he had seen this particular shop open. It might just serve his needs. Originally he wanted to visit Amon but this refined looking store had caught his eye. After fixing his jacket, he opened the door, glancing around at the many displays inside. A pleasant ticking noise greeted him upon entry, along with many shining glass and gold faces of the watches around him. There were quite a few first-rate watches scattered around the store. The noble walked over to one case to appraise them, his hands folded behind his back.
