So, if you haven't noticed already we recently added a new skill tree called the Combat Skill tree and made some changes to the Tech tree. What this means is that Technical skills have been separated from Combat skills making them purely for those wishing to become a smith, or mechanic, or builder. We fill this will add a bit more interaction between members. For instance, those interested in sword fighting, would need to go to a weapon smith in order to have a sword forged, and the higher the weapon smith's skill, the better weapons he can make. There is nothing to stop a swordsman from taking the weapon smith skill set (other than being an Ander) but that will limit your ability in other combat areas. Relying on another player to make your weapons and armor adds more to the RP experience. For instance, the Armor Smith may need your help to defend him as he gets new material, or he might have a certain trinket that he wants returned.
The combat tree is also designed to give your character a basis for their skills. There are some limits, per skill level, but they are designed to be guides for that skill level when fighting others and not hard limits. While your sword may break after three swings, the swordsman does not, and might be able to continue fighting with just half a sword. The only hard limits to the combat skills are that Anders can not use the more technological devices, such as pistols, rifles, and crossbows.
So, with all these new skills, you may be asking how can your character adapt when you have been RPing them a certain way that may be contradictory to the way the adapted skills work. For one, we have lowered the EMP cost of skills to accommodate the fact that players may want to invest in more than one skill set at a time. That means your Ander can purchase knife fighting and that new magic level they have wanted. We are also allowing any character who has been RPing at above their combat skill level to continue to RP at that level, granted that they purchase the necessary skills as a priority before moving on to improving skills they may already have.
My hope is that this gives everyone the ability to explore their character a bit more and offers a baseline for combat RP, but please, give the Tech tree a read over as well if you have skills in that as it has changed a bit form what it was before to accommodate the combat aspect of the skills being removed. You may also change the skills on your sheets as necessary. For instance, if you had melee I only because you wanted to fight with a sword, ensure that you change it to Sword fighting I.
If anyone has any questions about the new stuff, please feel free to ask in chat, or send me a message.
