Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"I suppose you have a point there." he replied to Addison with a thoughtful nod. Stephen listened to the story and could not help the small frown the graced his lips. He knew this information already, everyone did. Typical that the boy was trying to milk money out of him. But who cared, he had some to spare. As he reached in his pocket for another coin he felt an odd sensation bugging him. He glanced over and spotted a woman staring at him. Recognition flickered in his eye. It was Epikuro, the leader of his group. Fancy seeing her here. Why did he keep running into all these assassins? He wondered vaguely if she recognized him since his yellow eye was covered and his blue one showing instead. That was a foolish question; of course she recognized him, she was not as dimwitted as most of the people in this city. He gave her a slight nod of his head, the corner of his lip turning up ever so slightly as he turned back to Danny and set the money on the table. Maybe after this he would go and speak to her if she was still there.

"Righ'. That's all for the history lesson." Danny went back to eatiking. "If ya want specifics, narrow year questions, an' pay more. The five were ferfor common knowledge. Stuff that b'longs ta mmen's more expensive." Danny watched the two men. They were fidgety. Fidgety wasn't good. Danny gave a sidelong glance at where the two men's attentions seemed focussed, but couldn't see anything. Figures... just out of line of sight. He stretched his arms and sighed. "Whatcha lookin' at, Mister Leland? Wha'ever it is... seems the clown 'ere's jus' as interested." Danny set his food aside, but kept his fork and knife in hand, albeit pulled up into and hidden by his long sleeves. Fidgety people were never good.

Edelweiss subtly retributed Stephen's nod with one of her own as an acknowledging gesture that they knew of each other's presence, even more amused that he seemed to have almost smiled while doing that. The younger, scarfed boy seemed to start finding the mood strange though, giving that kind of suspiciousness look to the other two that she had so long ago learned it was best to annul no matter what the receiver had been doing. So, since it was quite an informal situation and she was rather interested in what they were talking about, she figured it would be better to approach and go talk to them before Danny's I-see-what-you-did-there eyes found her first. She stood up, but simply switched seats at her own table to sit back down on the chair that was closest to the trio's table and lightly tapped Danny's shoulder with a hand. "Sorry for interrupting, but the tables are close and I couldn't help but hear - are you selling info about the shadow beasts?"

Stephen nodded and pulled out more money and set it on the table "Oh, I was just looking at a fine Lady who caught my eye." He said casually; hopefully that response would calm Danny's suspicions. It was not really a lie anyways; but he had been looking at Epikuro for other reasons than just her good looks. He looked up with interest when he heard her voice. Ah, it seemed that she wished to join the conversation as well. "Hello Madam, you heard correctly. This young chap and I were just discussing such creatures." he responded politely. Might as well invite her to the table. "Would you care to join us?" he asked, raising his eyebrows inquiringly. He turned to look at Danny and Addison "That is, if it is alright with you two." Who knows, maybe he would learn more information from their mysterious leader; She might be willing to add some money to the growing pile for more information on the Shadow beasts as well. It would be killing two birds with one stone.

Addison had to chuckle at the pair. "Not unless Stephen saw a man he knew as well, no. I thought I knew him but it was a trick of the eye. Between us here, I'd rather not meet that man," he said then relaxed in his seat. A fine lady caught his eye? Oh, he had to see who this was but before his eyes could even glance the streets again or the room they were in, a voice spoke up and his eyes fell on the intrusion. He blinked twice in surprise and his brows expressively rose. Oh this was certain to be joyous. For a large town, it was surely proving to be small. Before them sat Epikuro and now she had joined their conversation. Any plans he had to leave soon were gone. "No, I don't think I would mind that at all and if we were to be honest, I doubt our young lad can turn away another customer," he answered Stephen as he turned a critical eye on Danny. "Please, join us," he gestured to Epikuro then smiled pleasantly. "I am Addison Halloway, this here is Sir Leland and well... this young lad here I don't quite recall his name. You might join us at our table if you would like." So that was the fine lady he spoke of.

Addison seemed to brighten when he saw Epikuro; What an amusing fellow. He smirked when Addison admitted he had forgotten Danny's name. Most likely he had not and was just messing with the Boy; either way Danny would not be pleased. "This fine lad's name is Danny" better to introduce him quickly before he pops a gear. Hopefully Danny had cheered up after the food but just in case he did not want to anger the boy anymore then he had already been; not when he was just starting to tell him the good stuff. "What might your name be madam?" he questioned in a pleasant tone.

Danny whirled with a yelp and fell out of his chair. The fork in his right hand skittered across the floor, but he kept the knife hidden in his sleeve. His eyes were both fearfully and furious as he glared at the three before he stood up quickly and brushed himself off. The tips of his ears were nearly crimson, and he pulled his scarf up all the way to the very bottom of his eyes. He stood there for nearly five minutes silently adjust his clothes, all the while glaring murder at the three people at the table. Once he was satisfied, he remained standing and crossed his arms over his chest. "Tha's right. I'ma monster cartographer. I know more 'bout the beasties in the woods than anyone alive. It'll be thirty emp per question fer a rundown per beasty, an' fer a complete summary of one beasty, hunnerd an' fifty per person. Newest info's gonna cost ya even more." If looks could kill, Danny would be a murderer four times over with the glare he gave to the clown. "An' Mister Leland's right. M'names Danny Hepburn. Yeh'll wanna be careful 'round these two. Rich boy's polite, but 'e's a piece'a crap. Clown's cracked in the head."

Stephen looked at Danny with surprise when the boy fell out of his chair. An amused smirk played across his lips for a moment before he looked at the boy with genuine concern. "Are you alright?" The boy just ignored him and glared at his companions with hate filled eyes. Stephen sighed at Danny's works about him being a 'piece'a crap'. He really had to figure out what he had done to insult the boy.

"I'm Edelweiss Fjäril, it's a pleasure to meet yo--" She had started saying while giving a pleasant smile... then Danny unexpectedly fell of his chair and she continued the stopped sentence as an "Are you ok?!" almost at the same time Stephen had also asked if the younger boy was alright. "Sorry, I didn't mean to give you a fright." In fact she was sure she had purposefully made a little more noise while approaching than her usual soundless movements so that it would look more 'normal', but apparently she scared the boy nonetheless. Though considering he had been obviously talking about terrifying monsters, that made a lot of sense.
But Danny stood up on his own and seemed to be phisically fine (albeit highly embarrassed), so it should be fine. "Nice to meet you." She briefly completed the greeting from before and at least had had the good sense of when having asked if he was ok before, doing in the same tone she'd use for someone random who tripped on the street - and not the cooing tone of 'poor cute tiny kid fell, hope he's fine '. She remembered the time when herself was still short and also how having their height or anything age-related pointed out by others was the most angering thing within a mile and half radius. 30 coins for spoken info? She wasn't really fond of finding out how much he'd charge them for it if was angry for real.

Addison's lips pressed into a thin smile and as the fork skittered across the floor, one of his booted feet came crashing down on the silverware to halt it. Calmly, he removed his foot then bent down to pick it off the ground while still wearing his smile. He met Danny's vicious glare with a smile void of actual emotion and he closed his eyes for a moment to hide his annoyance. When he opened his eyes, his expression was suddenly empty as he spoke with a seriousness that none of them would have heard in his voice before, "I'd be careful what you say to others, lad, if I was truly cracked in the head, I would have lodged this fork an inch deep into your eye." As if someone flicked a switch, the magician gave a little laugh and waved his free hand before setting the fork down. "But I simply jest. Really though, if I must say, it is better to be considered insane than so sane that you go mad."
The entertainer adjusted his jacket a bit and then lifted his hat to set elsewhere so he could make more room then scooted his chair over so Edel could join them more easily. "Please," he gestured to her. "Don't be afraid to make yourself comfortable, Edel. Don't mind Danny, here." When Danny listed his prices for information, Addison's brows shot up in surprise. That was a steep price and for information they all might know already or could get from other places. "I'm not desperate enough to pay a little thief that much money for information that can be accessed elsewhere. You say you're the best but if there is anything I've learned, whatever you can do, there is always someone who can do it better. How do we know you're even a credible source? Well, sir Stephen, I do not think I am that interested paying such a steep price for knowledge that might be common again. If you would like to risk it though, you have my respect to take such a risk."

Danny shrank away from the clown, sinking into his own coat and hugged himself. His eyes went wide and his anger couldn't even come close to matching his fear. "W-w-well... D-do ya know about Jormungand, the Great Wurm? Or the toxidons? Ravagers? Gibbering Tickts? Do ya know how ta get away from the shadow centipedes? Or the any of the other nasty beasties out there? Do ya know when they're active, where the prowl, an' 'ow ta avoid em? Do ya know where their weak spots are? Where ya gotta hit em ta take em out?" Danny hugged himself tighter as he spoke. His voice steadily calmed down, and he could look at the others in the eyes again.

Stephen eyed Addison nervously. From what he knew about the man, he very well could murder the boy on the spot. There was no eminent danger at the moment, Addison would not dare to do such an act in public and in the presence of the leader of CAEsAL. Still, he could not be trusted "No, I have never heard of some of these creatures or how to deal with them. That is why I came here to purchase one of your Journals, if you are still selling them and get more information on these creatures from your knowledge of them. I am always eager to learn so I feel like I could abide by your price so long as you do not raise it. But I must warn you, I do not like to be stolen from. So, if you only relay information that I already know, I will have no problem with reporting you to EIRAL. I do not want to do that though, so I hope we can both act like proper business partners and treat one another fairly." he stated plainly. Most likely he would not report the kid to EIRAL either way. The boy would have more use of his money anyways. Lucky he was in a good mood, he would not have been so giving otherwise.

"As much as I'd like to, I don't have as much money to expend as one might believe." It was pretty true; and considering they were talking after she paid her own tab for what she ate at the other table while sitting on her own, there was even less to be carried on her at the moment. Surely Edelweiss was not what one would consider poor, but she wasn't rich either. No worth in expending money she didn't have, nor treating herself a nice lunch if it meant not keeping enough to afford dinner. "So I guess I'll default to letting Sir Leland make the questions to you, and if there's a point that particularly catches my attention, I might make one of my own." From the look she gave while he spoke, the boy might want to skip telling much of the monstrous centipedes though, those she had seen with her own eyes beforehand. Maybe it would be good to keep an eye on Danny for a while as well, just in case. Watching Addison was easier in that matter, considering the lookouts she could make use for around the District, but the kid was clearly wary, skittish and not very cooperative - and she didn't think his issues about anger management were enough to warrant the risk of having him killed by another assassin. Oh well, things would go as they could; she had something in mind that if works right, would end with no injuries and no one pissed, one of her minor troubles solved and Danny might even end with a few extra EMP in his pockets (she was going to think more of that after their 'happy meal' ends).

Despite having the goal to scare the boy just a bit, Addison had thought the boy was so full of himself that he would have only responded with another smart remark. So as Danny shied away and talked with evident fear, Addison couldn't help but frown and stare at him. The sight of him was all to familiar with something he himself experienced growing up when his father found him practicing doctor on animals. His intentions had been good but back then he was too young to know that being a doctor required more than good intentions. Finally, he exhaled from his nose as Danny finished and fished out enough coin for his pocket to pay the boy for two questions. He, himself was not particularly rich and that would take up a majority of what he carried on him, the rest left for the tab, but he felt a need to actually 'try' and sympathize with another being.
He set the coins on the table then shoved them in Danny's direction before gesturing to Stephen. "I will pay for the first two, but beyond that, that is all I will sponsor," he said then sat back quite relaxed in his chair. It was always after moments like these where he felt most angry. Despite that his face was now passive and his body spoke he was relaxed, there was a storm brewing in him and he could feel it in his chest. Caring, he felt, was a resource of emotion that was only waste. Although he loved to talk to people, although he was willing to spend on them, and although he would make sure to befriend others who sought his company, he always made it habit to not get so close because he never knew when there was a need to kill them.
As his dark thoughts pressed on, he grabbed the tab and suddenly stood. No, he need to calm himself before it did show. "Excuse me," he told the three politely before walking passed Danny to pay the waitress then left to stand outside of the restaurant. Where he stood, he could probably still be seen by the other three and they would know he hadn't abandoned them. He couldn't even if he wanted to unless he was willing to leave the walking cane and hat behind. Outside, under the canopy, he drew a small case from his coat and then drew the matches. He plucked a cigarette from the case then put the case back in his pocket. Seconds after, he placed the stick between his lips then struck the match before lighting it. The magician hated smoking, and rarely ever indulged himself but he would not deny how easily it brought him back to being calm. Turning to lean back against the wall, he crossed his legs at the ankle then peered into the window to see how the rest of their conversation was going.

Danny took a step away from the table before nodding. "Righ'... go 'head an' ask away." Danny looked at the three... or mostly. He avoided looking even in Addison's general direction.
