Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"I go by many names. Entertainer, Ringmaster, Magician, but my actual name is Addison Halloway. You can call me whatever it is that pleases you, Sir Stephen," he said wit raised brows as he looked to the taller boy at his side. "You've also no need to apologise for something of which you did not do wrong," he added in, keeping his head high. As they reached the place where Danny stood, the magician could feel the rain lessening though it still fell in a steady pace. This was a likely unusual day but slowly he could see more people begin to fill the district and was quite pleased with this. Once they've reached the restaurant, Addison paused to inspect Danny for a moment then without another word stepped into the building to notify the waiting staff there would be three. The entertainer didn't wait to see if the other two had followed him but instead accompanied the waitress to the table they would be occupying. "I would prefer the bill," he addressed the woman as she placed the menus down amongst the table settings and fine china. "Of course, Sir," came her gentle voice. "Any wines or beers I could offer you to start with?" The corners of Addison's lips curled downward into a frown. "I do not drink. At least not so early in the day," he replied to her then looked for the two, now checking to see if they did in fact come in.

Stephen smiled. Addison certainly was polite and Stephen appreciated that about people. "A pleasure to properly meet you Addison. Glad to see that you are not in a dress as well." he jokingly added just before they met up to Danny. Stephen paused with Addison and smirked a little when he gave the small boy the once over then quickly walked in. A character as always. He followed him in and sat down at the table. "I agree. An earl grey for me. No milk or sugar." he added. He turned to Addison "I would much prefer it that I pay the bill. I owe Danny a meal and you are his guest so I should be paying for you as well. But if you really object to the idea we could split it." he asked lightly, not wanting to offend his new acquaintance.

Danny walked behind the two and flopped into one of the chairs at the table chosen for them. Danny looked over the menu, trying to hide just how giddy he felt, and looked up at the two with a grin before he realized what he was doing and replaced it with a scowl. "I want fish... this one!" Danny pointed to a salmon dish with a cream sauce. "And I want this." He pointed at a really, really expensive wine. "And I want this for dessert." Danny pointed at a bread pudding with a spiced cream and rum sauce. Danny set the menu to the side and plopped his elbows onto the table, folded his hands together, and rested his chin on his thumbs. He looked at Addison. "Would you be kind enough to sing a song? Something mellow and not so loud as to overpower a conversation." Danny turned his attention to Stephen. "Young Lord Leland, what do you intend to do with one of my journals? The rich don' come seekin' fer em as the norm. So what'cha up ta?"

(( A note: The song lyrics are separated from the actual RP so that you can skip them. They are written in poerty format so you can decipher what to skip if you do not feel like reading them. If you are interested in what songs these are, the first is Parting Glass. I personally like the AC4 version and the Walking dead version. The second song is Your Bones by Of Monsters and Men.))
The comment of being in a dress went without notice or Addison simply chose not to acknowledge it. As the woman took their order, she stopped to look at Addison with a questioning expression on whether the boy was serious about choosing wine or not but then released a small sigh when he nodded his approval of the youngest's choice. The magician turned to her and added on a cup of tea for himself before taking a seat. "I apologise, Stephen but I will be taking the bill. I do owe this young one here after all and do not like when others spend on me." As Danny had ordered, he watched with great amusement. Oh was this little boy quite the hungry one and if he were to take bets, the boy might not eat it all. With a carefree smile he took his seat with one of his arms hanging over the backside and his legs crossed at the knees. "A song," he asked with brows raised in surprise. That was not the entertainment he had thought would be asked of him. Truth be told, he did not have a terrible singing voice but he did not sing often-- he'd never found it his calling but with the lifestyle he'd had if it was art, it was present in his life. The woman turned away after writing down the order Danny gave and anything else Stephen might have added on as an aftermath if he did then disappeared. The entertainer racked his brain for a soft song that could work and then almost bit his tongue to keep his smile from growing too big. Addison distinctly remembered a song that Jisella sang to him once. "Oh, alright. I have one for you." He cleared his throat and then exhaled to relax himself before inhaling. His voice began the song in a gentle manner, giving it a melancholy tone as the words came,
"Of all the money that e'er I spent I spent it in good company And all the harm that e'er I've done Alas it was to none but me And all I've done for want of wit To mem'ry now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I've I had They're sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that e'er I had Would wish me one more day to stay But since it falls unto my lot That I should rise and you should not I'll gently rise and I'll softly call Good night and joy be with you all Good night and joy be with you all."
The song is fairly short and for anyone who might have knowledge of folk music would know it was a common song from a neighboring country often song at the departure of gathering friends but with the way Addison sang it and most singers, one might be able to interpret as a song of one's passing. Being fairly short, it ends just as the waitress returns with Danny's wine and Stephen and Addison's tea. "The food will be along shortly," she said to the boys gathered around the table then left after giving them a warm smile. Assuming Danny would only tell him to continue his song or ask for another, he began another song with a different tone entirely while he stirred his tea. Not giving too much into the song so he could remain quiet, he also focused on trying to listen to the two about these curious journals.
"In the spring we made a boat Out of feathers, out of bones. We set fire to our homes, Walking barefoot in the snow.
Distant rhythm of the drum As we drifted towards the storm. Baby lion lost his teeth, Now they're swimming in the sea
Troubled spirits on my chest Where they laid to rest. The birds all left, my tall friend, As your body hit the sand.
Million stars up in the sky Formed a tiger's eye That looked down on my face, Out of time and out of place.
So hold on Hold on to what we are Hold on to your heart.
Awaken by the sound Of a Screaming owl Chasing leaves in the wind Going where we've never been.
Said goodbye to you, my friend, As the fire spread All that's left are your bones That will soon sink like stones
So hold on Hold on to what we are Hold on to your heart."

Stephen frowned when Addison said he would pay the bill. Now he felt as if he owed the man for the cup of tea. But, it would be must unfitting to argue about who pays for what so he just nodded in response. When Danny addressed him he turned his attention back to the small boy. "I mostly wish to find out why and how these creature exists and if there can be a certain device invented to deter them from harming others." They were mysterious beings and once his father got word they existed he would go gallivanting off to try and kill the creatures. The man was the bravest soul he knew but he did not want his father to run out there unprepared. If these things were as dangerous as he speculated, maybe he would be able to persuade his father not to pursue them. Who was he kidding, the man would take that as a challenge and wind up hurting himself. Addison started to sing and Stephen paused his train of thought, listening to the oddly enchanting voice. When the waitress came with his tea he nodded to her as a thanks and sat back, lazily sipping it. Once Addison had finished the second song Stephen raised his tea cup to him as a sign of appreciation "That was marvelous. Do you sing for a living or something of the sort?"

"Yer an idiot if ya think there's an end all be all ta the beasties." Danny pulled his scarf higher up. "Those questions I'll answer fer free. Why they exist? That's easy. Why do any critters exist? How? Like any livin' thing. Far as yer device idea? Down' bother. If it was that easy, it'da been done a'fore. Anythin' mMoore's gonna cost ya." Danny tipped the brim of his up and looked at the clown. "Weren't bad... got anymore?"
Stephen sighed and resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose. Still treating him with disdain but at least he was answering his questions. "What I meant was when exactly did they get here? They have not been here long, last I checked. Did they come with the Andersweltlers is my main question." Oh, he had said he would have to pay for his other questions. He fished in his pocket to grab a coin or two and set them down on the table "Is that enough for my question?"

When the songs came to an end, the magician's tea had cooled enough that he could drink it without scalding his tongue. As the two engaged in conversation, he lifted the cup to his tea and sipped at it, then set it down on the little plate it arrived with. "No, I'm afraid I do not sing for a living," he replied courteously. "I used to travel with a circus and did many odd jobs their first before I was promoted to Ringmaster," he further explained and then fell quiet. Their subject of interest was indeed quite intriguing. Shadow beasts and monsters from his mother's world? He would be lying if he said he didn't want to know either. He'd seen the paintings of such vile, contorted creatures, grotesque in such ways he'd never seen of the animals he'd traveled with but he'd never seen one of those paintings in life. At Danny's request for another song, he took another sip from his tea and then thought over what he would sing. His mind racked all the songs he knew and now he was frustrated that this was his weaker element of entertainment next to actually playing the instruments. After a moment, he was able to think of a song and gave no preparation, just sang it. This one again was a sad song but this one dreadfully more so than the first.
"Sunday is gloomy, My hours are slumberless Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless Little white flowers Will never awaken you Not where the black coach of Sorrow has taken you Angels have no thought of ever returning you Would they be angry If I thought of joining you?"
His face broke into a sadistic sort of smile with these lyrics and although this song better fit a woman's voice for the higher notes, he did not fail it too miserably. He never dared the higher notes but made an effort to distinguish the change of song so it would not be monotone. His eyes were downcast and it seemed he overly enjoyed the thought of this song. Not that he would ever consider suicide.
"Gloomy Sunday
Gloomy Sunday, With shadows I spend it all My heart and I Have decided to end it all Soon there'll be candles And prayers that are said I know Let them not weep Let them know that I'm glad to go Death is no dream For in death I'm caressin' you With the last breath of my soul I'll be blessin' you
Gloomy Sunday
Dreaming, I was only dreaming I wake and I find you asleep In the deep of my heart, dear Darling I hope That my dream never haunted you My heart is tellin' you How much I wanted you Gloomy Sunday."
When the song finished, he exhales and smiled quite pleased. "Oh such fond memories."

Danny looked down at the coins. "Acceptable. The shadow beasts arrived when the Anders did, and the shadow beasts are also the reason why Anders are here. For five more coins, I'll tell you the story behind it." Danny looked up and smiled at the server as they placed down his ordered meal. He took his first bite of the fish and his eyes lit up with delight. He began to tuck into the meal with gusto, somehow managing to keep his scarf both clean and covering his face. Truly a feat to be marveled at. Danny took a small sip of the wine and set the glass down. He rolled his shoulders and adjusted his posture after he realized how he looked. He began eating in a more dignified manner, but still only at the table manners of a middle class family.

So his speculations were right. 5 coins for the story? Fine, why not. He fished in his pocket for some more change, turning his attention back to Addison "You know quite a few gloomy songs. Somewhat fitting for the topic of our conversation. You use to work in the circus? Why did you quit?" A small part of his wondered if it had to do with the reasons as to why he joined CAEsAL. The 5 coins had been found and he turned to set them on the table, amusement flickering in his eyes when he saw how the boy was devouring the food. When the boy seemed t notice his improper behavior he straightened up and ate slower, causing Stephen to smirk even more are his expense. "Here you are, 5 coins. If you like, you may tell me the tale after you have finished your food." he offered.

The magician could only smile at the question presented to him as he brought his cup of tea to his lips. Oh yes, why did he quit, he thought maliciously to himself. Her. It was all her fault. As his thoughts flooded him, he could not help but grip the cup tighter in his hand threatening to crush the delicate porcelin. Despite the anger welling within him he continued to wear his carefree grin as he placed the cup down and answered, "well, it was a series of unfortunate events, truly. I had been the ringmaster that night and things sort of... got out of hand." His brows raised as he recalled the events though the way he spoke it was clear details were left out. "My wife was a tight rope walker and she performed most dangerous tricks while she did it. One evening she fell but I had a feeling it would happen so I requested the net be prepared the night before. I think she was traumatized from the fall because she claimed someone sabatoged her. The next evening I was out among the crowd to usher people in or to excite people into seeing the show as was customary for the ringmaster when the tent suddenly went up in a blaze. Many people were trampled to death from people trying to escape. Others who were inside were burnt alive. They said it had been my dearest who had set it ablaze while inside. Grieved, I traveled the land then came here." He returned to his tea as though he had told them a story of a lost puppy who returned home.
The sob-story rang a bell. He had heard of a terrible fire at a circus when he was in Brisol. Interesting how this man had been the ring leader in charge when it happened. There most likely was information left out from the story- most circus businesses were full of scandals anyways. "I am sorry to hear that. I hope you are having a better time here in Lodan. From what I have seen of this city so far, it is a very unique and interesting place.." It most certainly was different than Brisol, that was a honest fact.

Edelweiss was just enjoying dessert after a light lunch. In front of her there was a type of elaborated warm pastry glazed in syrup, and a cup of red berries tea in her hand. Those little albeit delicious things costed an eye and a kidney (figuratively speaking!) considering how expensive they and anything in that restaurant were, but there was a kind of guilty satisfaction in buying a treat to herself once in a while. The last times had been profitable to her in her works (both of the shady and the not), so it was fair enough that she could take an hour to go somewhere refined, eat something nice and fancy a table by the window so she could watch the rain falling from the silver sky outside while remaining comfortable and warm... but she was distracted from those plans as the sound of chatting and singing reached her ears and she turned her eyes from the window to glance at the table from which her own was located behind. Oh, look who heavens brought; this surely was being a curious day.
Sipping her tea and not being able to avoid a smile, Edelweiss focused her attention on silently watching the three young men talking among themselves - the youngest boy seemed to have really interesting material to sell, and the other two... let's just say this was being an amusing day to her indeed.
I hope you guys don't mind Edel lurking on their chat. When I saw this tread open I just couldn't help myself.

Danny cleared his throat and stretched his arms above his head. He moved his plate back, took a drink from his glass, and cleared his throat. "As ya might be aware, Anders ain' from around here. Neither are them shadow beasties. They both come from the same place... another world, ya know? Either of ya know when Anders arrived in Lodan? Don' answer that. They got here 'bout a hunnerd years ago, give or take a few. Why'd they come 'ere? Ya can guess the answer. Them shadow beasts. Ya see, even the biggest, baddest, nastiest beasty we gots in the woods ain' even close ta what was drivin' them Anders away. So they ran here, an' the beasties followed. Far as I can tell, 'bout fifty years after the first Anders an' shadow beasties got 'ere, they managed ta seal off where they came from. All these powerful Ander mages got together an' sealed the portal from both sides. Lotsa Anders died trapped where they came from. Lotsa mages died castin' the magic. But the portal was closed an' no new beasties were comin' through. But Lodan was stuck with the ones already 'ere, ya know? An' they ain' movin' anytime soon. After the war b'tween the Anders an' the Humans died down, righ' around the time the portal was sealed, I'm thinkin' some hunts were organized. Try an' kill off all the beasties. Ya can guess how successful those were... Still got the buggers." Danny took another sip from his glass. "More info'll be more money." Danny pulled his plate back in front of him and continued eating.

The waitress returned to refill their drinks and then to offer Addison a black rectangular object that held the check within. The magician took it into his thin hands then set it on the table to rest beneath his left hand. "Thank you, kindly," he told the miss then looked to Stephen with raised brows. "Why be sorry? Accidents happen, lives are taken, then more lives replace those. It's a circle we live through. Crying over past events are worthless because if we do that we will never move on," he explained then removed his hat to set on the table so he could smooth out his hair. While Danny went on to explain his tale--thus far only common knowledge, Addison turned his attention to the window and could see now that the rain was beginning to thin. Still, few people ventured through the streets but there were people now. A particular man with a red overcoat and black pants caught his eye. The entertainer's eyes widened in recognition and quickly averted his attention back to his teacup. When he looked back to the man the dark haired male let out a small exhale because on a closer inspection he did not know him after all. A scowl overtook his features for but a brief moment before his carefree smile returned but it was slow. That man was headed to a dollymop house and perhaps later when he was through with these two he would follow and see if he was worth a bit of... questioning.
Danny hadn't asked him for another song but he began one anyway, oblivious to the woman behind him. Even if they had seen her when they came in, protocol would require that they act like the didn't see one another until properly introduced. He rested his elbow on the table and then his cheek on his fist.
"I will keep quiet You won't even know I'm here You won't suspect a thing You won't see me in the mirror But I crept into your heart You can't make me disappear Til I make you
I made myself at home In the cobwebs and the lies I'm learning all your tricks I can hurt you from inside I made myself a promise You would never see me cry Til I make you
You'll never know what hit you Won't see me closing in I'm gonna make you suffer This hell you put me in I'm underneath your skin The devil within You'll never know what hit you
I will be here When you think you're all alone Seeping through the cracks I'm the poison in your bones My love is your disease I won't let it set you free Til I break you."
The song is supposed to continue a bit longer but the magician ends it there otherwise it gets too repetitive.
