Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"YOU IDIOT! THE TENTACLES! THE TENTACLES! YOU'RE GOING TO GET US ALL KILLED!" Danny's cries were just barely audible over the sound of battle. This girl didn't listen... this was suicidal. Danny quickly flipped his sketchbook closed and scrambled down the tree he had been in. He scuttled deeper into the forest darkness and huddled down quietly to watch.
Thud! A dull pain slammed into the creature's neck as the additional weight carried its head down. After taking a moment in its confusion to reorient itself, the armored monstrosity reared up again, but this time was bending its back almost like it was doing a yoga pose. Further, further, further back it went, bringing whatever was on it closer and closer to its grasping tentacles. Broken scales and shattered wood mixed in the open sore on its neck from the impact as its oily black ichor oozed out slowly.

Caitlin cowered rightly as the beastie bowled around her like a living cage. She crouched down on the ground and held the sword over her head like a book in the rain. This had been a mistake. Each time one of the four clawed arms at the end of its tail grasped at her she swung the blade. It didn't do any visible damage but it did keep a barrier between them and herself. She just hoped she wouldn't lose her sword in the process.
Rava kept screaming nonsense at the top of her lungs and the only thing louder than her voice was the rumble of the ground as it quaked beneath them. What the hell kind of shadow beast was this?! There wasn't enough time to work on an elaborate scheme that involved killing the best and saving the foreigner and her own skin all in one masterfully crafted plan. Not even close. She was reduced to working on one goal at a time, and the goal at the forefront of her mind was a very simple one. Get her butt out of the cage before it bled on her. Waiting for an opportunity between swinging tentacles and dripping black ooze, she watched for a gap big enough to slip through. Then something strange happened... like all the air froze. There was no quaking, no shaking, no waving or even bending of branches from the nearby trees. In that moment time seemed frozen. Until the shadow beast reared backwards in sudden anger. Caitlin didn't hesitate. She sprinted forward and lept out of reach. Not satisfied with one jump, she lept again mid-air like a bird. Caitlin rotated as she did so, looking back to see what had caused the beast to rise, and to her horror she saw Rava on its back, her stick being absorbed by the beast itself.
"Jump Rava!" She screamed as her own back smacked into a tree and she slumped down it.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. Calm, muffled, the rest of the world blocked out by the closed door to his cabin, and here they were safe inside. Safe from reality, safe from their own complicated lives. Safe from duty. Safe from context. Just. Safe. --Caitlin
Rava relized what was happening , she Ran and jump to the nearest tree and Climbed up its reminds to get herself out of range of the creatures attacks " oh god oh god that was close , that was close , what was that stuff?? " she sees Caitlin slumped on the tree " HAY GET UP THE TREE AND WELL GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE NOW" Rava was ready to go, she even planed just to pick Caitlin up and run like hell all the way back to Lodan , she know she had enough for that , even if she hand to kill it or run away.

Danny lifted his goggles so his eyes shone like beacons. "This way! This way! Quickly!" Danny waited for the two women about thirty feet away from the monster. Danny turned after maybe twenty seconds, he turned and bolted into the woods. Every so often, he turned his luminous eyes back to where he thought the other two might be, but moved further from the monster...
The creature turned slowly back to its prey. It uncoiled itself laboriously and began pursuing the sweet smelling silver armed creature. Just a taste... just a sip...

Caitlin shook the cobwebs out of her head from the hit. She glanced down quickly to her right hand and was relieved to see her sword still grasped in it. She could make out the fuzzy sound of Rava's voice, and as the noise started to uncloud she could hear Danny again too. Both were telling her to move it, so she did. She got back on her feet and booked it as fast as her legs would carry her toward the sound of Danny's voice. When she finally made out the shape of his glowing eyes in the distance she felt a wave of relief, but didn't stop running. She wouldn't quit till they were 100% certain the beast was no longer chasing them.
Rava followed but she followed in the trees because at this point the rule was the floor was lava and being in the trees is better and to keep out of range of any nasty thing as well as being able to rescue Caitlin if anything happened to her , no way she wanted the blame for her Employers death and being chased the death by pirates, worse of all. all she wanted was tree Resin to finish off her leather armor , now her wish was that nothing could stop there escape, they get home , have her hands wiped and told off , and finally go home and lay down with a plate full of wild jerky and her bed. that all she wanted right now.

Danny dashed ahead of the other two. He stopped and looked back the way he had come everyone once in a while with the hope that his two charges could see the glow from his eyes. He dashed ahead and rounded cluster of trees. Danny came to a stop as quickly as he possibly could and let out a terrified whimper as he turned and began running back to the swordswoman and the maniac. Why did this night have to go this way?!?! "Stop! Stop! Hide, quick! Hide!" Danny called out as he got closer to the two. Behind him, a rumbling grew, like a stampede through the forest. The area began to glow brighter and brighter with a red luminescence. It's muted color slowly began to saturate the area as the rumbling grew louder.
The tentacle beast had been drawing slowly closer. It could smell the sweet nectar it desired. As it drew nearer and nearer, it discovered something else. The rumbling filled the creature with fear as it reared up, deciding it had a better chance fighting. Anyone near the creature would see it rearing as high as it could, bringing all of its lethal limbs to bear. It was a feeble and futile gesture. The hazy red light filled the night along with the thunderous rumbling of the passage of something even more dangerous. A large worm-like body slithered past, easily twenty feet in diameter. The end of the creature was nowhere in sight as it opened its gaping maw, crushing everything along its path, and swallowed up the tentacled monster. It turned away from the creature and headed back into the deeper parts of the forest. After nearly five minutes, the last of the creature was out of sight.

Cait did as she was told without questioning the boy. Turned out to be quite possibly the wisest decision of her lifetime as the light flooded the forest trees and the former beastie was swallowed up by the new one. She held her breath and trembled uncontrollably as it passed them by. Her mind kept blanking on the thought that her ancestors had lived with and fought terrors like these and worse in their own realm. If that was not the worst of what had been over there, then she was too terrified to know what else had existed. When there was no longer a worm-like tail to stare at passing by, she turned to face Danny. "Please, please tell me you do not live in the woods," She whispered as softly as she thought humanly possible.
She sat her glass down next to the decanter and leaned back. This was nice... like falling into a vat of marshmallow fluff. after seeing the Huge Worm snake thing that ate the Huge spider bear snake with arms she gathered herself , waited for a few seconds for the air to clear and with the words spoken as true as Rave could "Ah just as planned!! ,i know something was bigger and would eat it!! , reason why i made it bleed! , but God !! Next time am taking a weapon! " she looked down from the tree she was standing at Caitlin and the boy "hay you 2 alright?, that was wild ride then . nice call about the monster spider bear snake with arms thing there or i be monster soup in its belly there." she said as she climbed down the tree to the 2 " now pardon to ask but can we go home now? am guessing we all ready to go home?"

Danny looked from the suicidal swords woman to the tree jumping lunatic and shook his head. "I don't live here, but I work here. I catalogue the beasties out'n'about at night..." Danny turned and glared at the tree jumper. 'Ya got lucky this time, girly. If yer boss hadn'ta been lookin" fer ya, y'd have died. shouldn"t be out here if ya don' know what's here." Danny turned and glared at the swords woman. "Same goes fer you! Ya need ta get outta here, the both of ya. I'll take ya ta the edge of the forest, but ya better do what I say, when I say, no questions. Gottit?" Lord almighty was this night painful. Nursemaiding two grown women, who should know better than to be out here... A flicker of irritation crossed Danny's face as the annoyance he had felt all nigt colored his speech.

So much for her fib that they were family. Was her seniority that obvious? She pushed the thought away. She put her sword away too.
"You got it, Danny. As long as we get back to the city, that's all I want right now. And Rava, maybe this goes without saying at this point, but be warned: there be monsters afoot in the forest."

"i think i know now that this place at night time is bad" Rava looked to the side back into the woods now knowing what goes bump in the night " well it was a well learned lesson and i manage to get that i wanted , the tree risen needed to make leather armor complete, and up to now , it was worth it" as she open her waist bag to show the risen she managed to get in its harden from. " i got enough here for about 10 leather treatments give or take so this was a frightful yet fruitful experience"

Danny glared between the two and sighed. "This way... stop when I say stop, do what I say when." He pulled his goggles down over his eyes, dulling the shine from them and turned. "And no light." Danny began marching back towards the city. Every so often, he stopped to listen. Throughout the whole trip to the city, all he could think was 'A night wasted. And all because of these two... Wonderful. I should know better'n to stick my nose in someone else's business...' He looked back over his shoulder at the two. "B'for ya head outta here, what're yer names?"
Post by Caitlin Cockfoster on Jan 6, 2014 1:42:28 GMT
"Caitlin, my name is Caitlin." She didn't offer a sur name. She was keeping a lower profile these days on her role as a baroness since she'd left home and not been back since. A failed engagement, murdered fiance, and preoccupation with pirating could do that to a woman... drive her away from comfortable society.

Rava looked to Danny as he asked and after Caitlin only said her 1st name , she some reason felt that it was for cover so she played along " am Rava, Rava GreenHeart and my cousin here Caitlin GreenHeart , it hard to tell that we are family but are fathers where brothers so where closer then you think , just my mother was a foreigner from different lands and I only recently came to live with her here after finished my studies " she said smiling as she tried to put her arm around Caitlin's neck in a sister like manner , hopping this strong lie would work.
