Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

Three taps. He could easily assume that meant three steps back. It would have been nice if he could turn around to check, but he didn’t dare take his eyes off the monster right now. Instead he was trying to memorize what he could see of it, so that hopefully redraw it for the next installment of the beast book later. The collection was ever growing, and sometimes he wondered if they could keep up with how many discoveries were being made.
Picking up the torch, the beast still seemed to not notice them. But the longer they stood there, the higher the risk of that changing. He one step backwards. And then another. And then half of a third. With his free hand, he made a gesture over his shoulder, trying to imitate moving back further and doing so quickly. And then he held his hand flat up to her before folding one of his fingers down. After a pause, he folded another. He was trying to do a countdown and he hoped she would understand it. If not, she’d figure it out as soon Lasair turned around to bolt.
The woman watched the creature closely, taking in its slow pace. But as soon as Lasair gestured a little frantically at her she backed up more. Now able to look partially back around the curve but darkness wasn't letting her look far.
Lasair however was seeming to be doing something else. Holding up his hand but dropping fingers, counting down. To run hopefully, but she'd find out soon enough. Dirt still crumbling down on her every so often. Her shoulders were dusted lightly. Fawn, at the time, wasn't overly worried with a little dirt. She was more concerned with getting Lasair and herself out alive. Her body tense and ready to run with him.

Three…two. He paused for a half second before dropping the next finger. One. Another short pause as he took the moment to inch his feet backwards. And then the last finger was removed and after giving Fawna a moment to start moving, he turned around and began running quickly, pushing her forward if need be (although he tried to do it as gently as possible while still in a hurry). He wanted to get away from there and do so quickly. While still also trying to be quiet. A difficult feat, but it shouldn’t be impossible. They just needed to hurry through the twisting tunnel and back to the entrance. There they should be able to escape safely.
Behind them, the creature continued to gnaw away at the dirt and stone, unmoving from its position. Yet, if someone stood next to it and listened carefully, they could hear a sickening sort of laughter coming from it as the hurried footsteps faded away. Would the two running be able to hear it? Probably not. Yet the sound was emitted, and the beast continued at its work.
Fawn wasn't wasting any time with running. When his last finger went down and she saw him twitch...she was gone. But apparently not fast enough as she felt his hands push at her back, she picked up the pace a bit at that, stepping sideways to run so he had room to see around her. Her wings elevated just enough to keep herself from kicking them as she ran. They wouldn't be in the way of him however. Whatever that thing was, it was either deaf, or not amused with them. And the Ander wasn't complaining. She'd seen enough of a shadow beast to last her for awhile. All she wanted was out, and for Lasair to be right behind her. Once she reached the end of the tunnel she looked up into the promise of light and the world above. Open air and room to stretch. Freedom! However, even with that will in mind. She came down only because she was going to help the redhead and because she wanted to make sure he came out alive from this ludicrous feat. He wasn't far behind her. "Up. Go." She said, waiting. She wanted him out first for two reasons. One, she didn't want a new leader for MI if that thing did decide it wanted a snack. And two, she didn't want to take the slimmest chance of the tunnel falling in on him. Regardless of how sturdy it looked. Either way you wanted to look at it, he was going up first. "Hurry!" She ushered quietly. her wings shifting. No chance in hell she was trying to seal them back up, lest the magic entice anything nearby.

Fawna didn’t need to tell him twice. Lasair jumped onto the rope, pulling himself upwards as quickly as he could manage, only as he got a feet paces up, the rope snapped and sent him back to the ground, leaving him wheezing a moment as he tried to stand up and recover? He looked between her and the top of the hole, the useless rope still gripped in his hand. “Please?” he asked as much as he could manage, but his voice came a little hoarse. Landing flat on your back could do that to someone.
Fawn jumped as the rope snapped, her eyes widening. The first thing that crossed her mind was how to get out. Well Lasair was recovering from his tumble, the winged Ander stepping forwards to help him up and stay steady. She glanced at the rope, then to the top of the hole. Her second thought coming to mind. The rope snapping once before, despite how it looked, could be passed off as a stroke of bad luck. But twice? With the same man in the tunnels? Coincidence? Fawn thought probably not. With a low grumble of curses she took the rope from him, stepping forwards to dig her fingers into the soft dirt. It was going to be hard to climb on its own. But with a stroke of genius she flexed her wings out, pressing the arms of them against the side walls hard. It gave her something to balance from. "I'm going to climb up..." She murmured quietly, "As best I can. Do not get eaten or so help me." She gave him a look, but one of serious worry. He better not die down here. With that she kept working her way up. Dirt coming loose along her wings and tumbling back but the tunnel held steady. Fawn prayed it would stay that way. She reached the top after what seemed like forever, but her sense of time was befuddled. She grunted with effort as she heaved herself up over the edge back to the light and the real forest and open air and oh look! The sky! Taking a few seconds to catch her breath she turned back to look down in the hole, trailing the rope down into it and holding it tight.

He nodded mutely as se began climbing, glancing over his shoulder nervously back in the direction they had come from. Was it following them? He hoped not. But what were the sounds? Were their sounds? Lasair bit his lip and scooted a tiny inch away from the hole in the ceiling (as well as away from the occupied tunnel). Dirt falling on his face wasn’t particularly nice, but he dealt with as Fawna climbed upwards surprisingly fast.
After she reached the top, he stood up and gave a tug on the rope. She might be able to hold it, might not. “Loop it around a tree, it’ll give you more leverage,” he called up to her. She was free to disobey if she wanted, but he waited a moment for her to decide anyhow. Once the rope was tight, he began using it to climb up as best as he could, yet his nerves caused him to slip at times, nearly sending him back down if not for the grip on the rope in his hands. Tentatively, he made it to the top and nearly collapsed onto the grass. “Thanks,” he breathed, head spinning as he sat there a moment, one ear towards the hole just to be cautious.
