Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Ease her fear of the underground, pssh, poppycock. She leaned over looking down and swallowing hard. Well...here goes nothing. She tightened her sings to her back and she stepped forwards to slide down, digging her heels in and stretching one foot out as she shifted her weight back a bit. Upon reaching the bottom she stumbled, doing her best not to flail her wings and finding her balance with her arms out. She straightened up and looked around, darkness meeting her curious eyes. "Okay....okay...I'm fine." She was talking mostly to herself but if he wanted to respond, more power to him. "So, where to?"

He was impressed when she managed to land on her feet; it was more than he managed. Nodding as she said she was fine, he gestured to the left. “The right tunnel is a dead end, but I don’t know where the left goes. It could be short, or not, I don’t know. I brought a torch for when it gets darker.” He patted the side of his waist, where an unlit torch hung from his belt.
Taking a few steps forward, he turned and looked back at her over his shoulder. “You don’t have to come with if you don’t want to.”
Fawn took a deep breath as he mentioned the torch, it did offer some comfort. She was working past the goosebumps rising up her arms and the creeps causing shivers across her shoulders. She shifted her wings gently and looked around but she froze as he spoke that last sentence. "Excuse me?" She exclaimed in almost disbelief. She put her hands on her hips as she looked at him. "You wait til I'm down IN the dratted hole to tell me that I don't have to come if I don't want to?" She scoffed slightly, aggravation easily overtaking the uneasiness she had. "I can't even believe you right now. This weird attitude change you have going on was irking enough to begin with. Stifle the pity and start walking carrot top. I came down here to make sure you didn't get eaten and one little dark tunnel...underground...is not going to stop me." She finished her short-lived rant by crossing her arms and waiting for him to lead on. Fawn might get a little nervous, but one way to easily distract her was to challenge the stubborn woman's loyalty to her word. Even if it was sort of a round about way to do it.

“I said that before you were down here; ‘you can stay by the entrance’ were my exact words,” he countered, but began walking anyhow. She was here now, which was nice. He was grateful to have the company. In a way he wanted to say something about his attitude change, reassure her that he was still his same old self. But he couldn’t do that, not when he wasn’t sure that it was true.
The topic stayed on his mind as they walked forward as a light pace. When the light from the entrance faded, he reached onto his belt and lit the torch. No magic needed to be expended, but it still took a few moments for the fire to catch hold of the torch and illuminate the way. The cave stretched onward, tree roots dangling down from above in various places.
"That's not a 'don't come if you don't want to'. That's just a 'you can just stay here'." She said with a small smile as she walked with him to make herself feel a bit more at ease. He seemed more troubled now then before however. She actually felt kind of bad for saying what she did. She shoved her morality thoughts aside and shifted her attention. Her gaze wandered to the roots and such above them, her reaching up to actually touch one curiously. She stayed close behind him, making sure not to accidentally bump into him. "Impressive tunnel...although creepy and...well...odd." She shivered against her will and crossed her arms looking about.

He nodded to her words before replying. “Yeah, I don’t know of any shadow beasts that could dig something this big. Jak and I were surprised when we discovered it; the ground just collapsed under him.” More words were there, ready to come out, but he stopped himself. Fawn didn’t need to know how scared he had been that day, how his fear of shadow beasts had almost compelled him to abandon his senior member. Or how Jakobi, as childish as that man was, could look a shadow beast in the eye with confidence. He was gone now, lost to the tides of time.
Up ahead, the tunnel turned to the left and descended downward slightly. The roots became less common on the ceiling as they traveled down the soft slope.
Fawn lowered her arms and strained her eyes to see in the dim light. Every now and again a crumb or two of dirt falling on her shoulder or in her hair. She'd pause just long enough to brush it off before trailing at his heels again. She looked at Lasair's back, sticking close. Subterranean... "Say? If the ground just collapsed under him shouldn't a tunnel also extend back the other way? Why would the tunnel be so close the surface and not entirely breach it?" She shifted her wingtips dragging the ground as she let her shoulders relax. "What is the point of a one-way tunnel?"

“It extended the other way slightly, but stopped at a dead end after a few meters. It was weird, tunnels usually don’t just end like that.” He extended his torch towards the wall, trying to see if there were any markings or grooves on them. There was very little, making it even harder to try and figure out the origin of this strange passage. If something had dug it, shouldn’t there have been markings to show that?
After the slope leveled out, it stayed level for a few feet before beginning to slope upward then. Walking along it wasn’t difficult, but it was unexpected and left Lasair furrowing his eyebrows. “Where do you think this is going to lead us?”
She murmured her agreement about the strangeness of the tunnel. As it began to tilt upwards she picked up her wings a bit, looking down at her feet in a confused manner. "It could lead to the jaws of a very patient beast." She partially joked. "It could lead back to HQ if I could tell direction down here. That would be quite the surprise." She looked up and around, using her other senses to search for changes in the air or the temperature. Pretty damp and cool right now.

“I don’t think we’re heading towards HQ,” he mused, but didn’t dismiss the thought entirely. “But if these were dug by a beast, I’m willing to bet that they’re more tunnels somewhere in these woods.” A thought occurred to him then of the possibility of catching this beast and using it to dig more tunnels. They would be useful should a quick escape ever be needed. But getting the beat to cooperate would be difficult.
Up ahead of them, a rustling sound began to drift towards them, as if something were moving around in the dirt.
"More than likely." Fawn nodded, the dirt under her feet going from solid to shifting. Like freshly turned dirt in a field. She looked down curiously at the change in texture before catching the sound of something scratching. She reached out and tugged lightly on Lasair's shirt. "Mmm..." She lowered her voice, listening again to see what she could make out.

He glanced downward as his foot sunk into the softer dirt, his eyebrows furrowing as he began to hear the sound coming ahead of them as well. “I’ll go first,” he whispered to Fawna before walking ahead. His feet made soft scuffling sounds as he did so and he mentally wished he knew how to walk a bit more quietly. As the path continued ahead of him, he twisted to the left a little. Nerves began to poke at him as he rounded the turn, the flaming torch held out in front of him so that he could get a better view. He really wished he had feline eyes right now.
As the light began to illuminate the passage, it gradually came to a stop and refused to lighten anything further. It made Lasair confused until he realized the blackness wasn’t darkness, but rather a creature of the shadows. He could clearly hear it digging away at the dirt now, edging itself forward ever so slightly. Only its back was facing him at this point and he was faced with a difficult decision. Walk forward and face it, or back away and flee. He took a small step backwards, favoring that option already.
Fawn followed just enough to keep his lantern and him in her sight. Her body already threatening to tremble but she was refusing to let it. As she watched the light from the torch just...stopped. So did Lasair. A shadow creature was blocking thr path. The womans eyes widened, immensely startled. The feathers on her wings starting to flare up and she wasnt about to try and force them back down. She could express just how unnerved she wasm Fawn took a step forwards as Lasair took one back, curious of the beast but also trying to get one hand on the redhead and high-tail it out of here. Only one thing clicked to her. How slowly this thing was moving. She wouldn't take it at face value, no sir. Because it could be a lot faster but at the moment it seemed so patiently slow. She froze a bit, hoping Lasair would back into her grasp and praying the thing didn't turn around.

He took another small step back, hoping he could back away without any issue. Except that he didn’t notice that Fawna was right behind him. As he bumped into her, the torch slipped from his hand, tumbling to the ground with a light thud. He froze up, body tense as he held his breath. The monster in front of him didn’t seem to notice the action, but that didn’t mean it wouldn’t. Moving slowly, he reached down to pick up the torch. Hopefully he could retrieve it without a problem. But now he had to keep in mind the fact that he had a startled bird to attend to as well. If she made a sound… he wasn’t sure what would happen.
Fawn grunted softly as he backed into her, her hand flattening against his back between his shoulderblades. She had tensed up upon hearing the torch hit the ground. Watching the light flicker dangerously. She bit her tongue in order not to make any more noises. Wincing as she bit it too hard. Lasair needed some space, she forgot how crowding she could be with her wings out. Especially in a tunnel. She tapped a finger on his spine three times and took three steps back. Ready to make a run for it.
