Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Strands disappeared from mouth. Woman fixed not fake hair. Girl offered food. Tilted head, bent down. Red Woman wanted her inside. Looked to building. Tall. Menacing. Didn’t like it. But maybe look. Maybe eat. Stranger wanted bindings. Score settled. At ease.
Mala crawled forward, sniffed. Turned back, tugged on Max’s sleeve, pulled forward, repeated. “Food? Food. Food.”
“Yes, inside. With food.” Smiling again to Mala, Max took a small step towards the building. Hopefully she would follow and then they could have food and hopefully chat a bit more. Maybe she could even trade the corset for some gold. She only hoped that some members (like the 2IC or someone named Bones) wouldn’t be there. They had no reason to be, so that was good. If they were, Mala’s presence would be something else to deal with.

'With food' meaning chocolate chip cookies on the reception hall, or at least at first, as Edelweiss led the two other girls inside and picked the cookie plate to both share and keep munching on as they made their way further inside the building and towards the Mess Hall to get actual dinner. They'd have to register Mala at the dorms, and find out something she could work with at the guild, but that could be done after eating. Mala did look like she could make use of some extra food.

Food. Not hungry. But food scarce. Sava gave, but didn’t like. Too salty. Didn’t taste real. Tasted fake. Had to eat when able.
Followed girl. Inside, big, red, warm. Unnerving. Felt close, world, caving in. Stranger gave flat mud from plate. Stranger ate mud. Strange. Mala nibbled on substance. Tasted sweat. Crumbly. Like dirt. But had brown bumps. Looked like dung or bugs. When licked, didn’t taste— didn’t crunch or crackle. Wasn’t going to risk. Placed object on table. Spat into plant. Stranger led deeper inside. Mala didn’t like place. Halls, reminded of old home. Woman, not in red, but red hair. Pretty, like how the men liked. Leading to black room? Unsure. Clothes, strange. Searched for men. Searched for women. None. If like woman in red, might not be popular.
Mala fumbled with bones in dress. Waited. Watched. Max, happy, but stranger. Didn’t trust. Hair not fake. Hair real. Threat? Maybe. But girl. Innocent. Trapped? Wanted to leave, but waited. For Max. Could carry away, if trouble.

Self-reminder of the day: do not give cookies to Mala. It was a waste of good cookies. Edelweiss had a moment mentally pondering what exactly this girl would even accept to eat without spitting if cookies caused that reaction. Before, she would have guessed that with how thin Mala was she'd accept to eat anything as long as it was even vaguely edible, but now it seemed she's quite picky with food. Like a toddler. Again. Alright then.
She had at least mentioned before that Edelweiss' hair smelled nice and even btried to eat it, so fruits were probably something she could swallow. Thankfully the mess hall wasn't crowded, most people were doing their own thing at that time and just a couple ones here and there could be spotted at the tables, sitting and eating. Jasper silently waved to her and Max from the further corner. As the redhead leader led the trio into the room, she grabbed an apple from the first fruit bowl she could spot and placed it in Mala's hand, "Seriously, you should eat something. People die if they don't eat." she stated with a sigh and then moved to get some actual food for herself the the other two. "Max can you go choose a table? I'll go fetch the food trays."

“Thank you, Edelweiss,” Max said quietly as she took her cookie and bit into it. She gave Mala a curious look as she discarded the cookie. A waste then; Max ate hers happily in the mean time.
But for now, it was time for dinner. And also time to watch over Mala as she inspected every little thing she could find on the way. Max was thankful she hadn’t found any of her daggers, at least. When they came to the mess hall, Max smiled a little when she spotted Jasp in the back. He usually wasn’t back at this time, she’d have to ask him about it. Edel mentioned finding a table, and while sitting with her roommate was tempting, she had a feeling that he and Mala shouldn’t meet. At least not yet. She picked out a table at the edge of the room instead, and waited for the others to join her.

Walked. Place, large. Continued on. Narrow, small. Dark. Black room? Black room? Heard laughter. Saw light. Not black room. But laughter, troubling. Path opened up. Big room. Tables, people. Strange people. Food, on boards. Like Sava. Stranger spoke. Gave food, spoke of death. Looked at red thing cautiously. More red. Mala didn’t trust. But smelled. Licked. Skin, tough. Stranger sounded more and more like women in red. Women in black. Then, Max left. Ventured into corner. Left Mala alone, alone with Stranger. Didn’t trust. Didn’t like. Needed to flee. To run. No longer safe. Mala Hissed. Took food, bit into it, then ran. Crawled under tables. Ran past. Dashed, until with Max. People looked. Mala hissed. Sat underneath table. Protected. Ripped and tore into food. Crunch, softer then bones. Didn’t care for. But sweet.

She watched with both eyebrows raised as Mala bit the apple then randomly darted under the tables till reaching the one Max had picked and finished eating the apple over there. Still under the table. There was a very awkward and uncomfortable sense of dejavu from watching that scene; just missing Mala hitting Stephen on the head with a contunding object, and it'd be like meeting Eryn for the first time all over again. Thankfully, this time the one who'd been responsible for this girl was Max, not the redhead. Quite a few pairs of eyes were staring at that now. Edelweiss mentally wished Max good luck.
Since it seemed like Mala was at least quiet from her spot under the table now, Edelweiss took a deep breath and went ahead to fetch some food anyway. Once she had enough of it in hands (two trays, each containing a small bowl of creamy pumpkin soup, some buttered potatoes and a sandwich, and a single vanilla milkshake) she walked to the table where Max was sitting at and first placed the trays on it then sat down as well. She could only hope Mala would eat -something- besides that apple, but they couldn't force her. CAEsAL was no noble mansion nor fancy buffet; they could keep people fed, but that's if people actually ate what they could offer and not be expecting some sort of custom-made meal. "Well then... Max, I must say I don't mind Mala staying, but you'll have to make sure she won't bite anyone. Or eat them." Sigh. Edelweiss wished she was kidding even, but she's not. "I should be able to free a room for her in a couple days, and then we can think on what she can work with; until then she stays with you and J. Don't let me repent this, alright?"
She flinched internally as Mala caused a scene, which caused Max to simply sit there and pretend no one was looking at her. She succeeded, mostly. She couldn’t ignore Jasper’s stare, however. At least not until Edelweiss came and sat down by her, THEN people started to return to what they had been doing before.
She winced for real when Edel said that Mala would have to stay with her. That wasn’t exactly her favorite choice, but it couldn’t be avoided. “I’ll try not to,” she replied quietly, feeling herself shrink under the other’s gaze. Max had only been trying to do the right thing, but it seemed like a harder and harder thing to do as the moments ticked by. She ate her food quietly after that.

Red woman approached. Told Max about Mala, but Mala no bite. Not ones that didn’t deserve biting. Woman, getting close to that. Threatened Max. Max, uncomfortable. Eyes, unsettled. All women’s fault. Crawled out from underneath table. Apple, in hand, glared at woman, growled, bared teeth. “Not bite, unless want.” Mala hissed, approaching woman. Didn’t care for. Didn’t like way people looked away. How Max shrunk. Women, unsettled. Dangerous. Untrustworthy.

It had not been a threat, just a fair warning. She created her guild upon the sole foundation that it could be a place where people could flock to to live decently and feel some sense of security - which would be severely compromised if there's an unstable overgrown person going around and biting random people. At Max's timid response, practically shrinking in her own seat, Edelweiss gave a small smile and reached out a hand to pat her head once. "No need to fret too much. It never gets easier, but you do get better. If anything happens just call me." It was the blond gal's first time bringing someone over, and she's still rather young - all things considered, she is doing pretty well. "I'll be counting on you."
Then Mala left her hideout from under the table and hissed. Edelweiss had the passing thought they might have to take her to see a dentist. Someday when she stops the snarling and and biting thing. "You can't bite someone just because you want, Mala. You need a better reason than that." Otherwise everyone would be getting bitten by everyone in the city. Jasper was glaring daggers at the back of Mala's head. Indeed, it's a good thing just wanting to isn't enough a reason for her to get bitten. "Like if you're being attacked or hurt, then sure, do bite them. Otherwise, don't. This is my guild, and unless someone causes you harm you should not harm them either."
She smiled slightly, ever so slightly, when Mala emerged from under the table, but eh smile faded again quickly as a spoonful of soup found its way into her mouth. A nod was the only reply Edel received, as Max was too busy trying not to stand out or be noticeable by anyone else in the room. Being invisible used to be her strong suit. She only hoped that it still worked even after having practiced being on stage, where everyone had their eyes on you. It felt nice when on a stage. Not so nice in a cafeteria.

Didn’t like Edel’s touch. Max, fine with it. But woman, untrustworthy. Max couldn’t’ see. Couldn’t understand. Woman scolded her. Different from Sava. Familiar. Touch, scolding. Don’t’ bite. Don’t bite. Never bite. Like women in red always said. Anger flowed, stirred inside. Mala crouched lower to the ground, baring teeth still. “Bite to defend. To eat. To hurt those who wrong.” Rocked on hands, as if to pounce. Made no effort to. Woman say guild. Guild. What guild. Hers? Max, hers too? People, all hers? Why? Stranger, just like women in red? Hissed again. Approached Max cautiously. Pulled her by sleeve. Tried to drag away “Bite when Mala want to- when need to. May need to. You, not safe. Dangerous.” Nuzzled Max’s shoulder, tried to drag Max from table. Attacked or hurt, relative. Didn’t stop strangers, still came, still invaded. Didn’t count as harm. Didn’t count as attack. Loophole, always. Led to downfall. Couldn’t trust, had to flee. Mala picked up Max, then, ran. If succeeded, would flee into hall. If not, would try to urge other to leave. Regardless, not leaving without child. Without innocent.

"You didn't need to bite my hair, and still did it." The redhead replied simply. Again, it wasn't a threat - just an example. "There are people to whom I'm 'dangerous', yes. But only those who hurt my workers and friends. Now release Max - you'd not like being grabbed, so don't go grabbing others."

Max furrowed her eyebrows when Mala pulled at her sleeve, and looked even more confused when she tried to pull the member away from the table. She moved away from Mala when the other tried to grab her, wiggling out of the grasp. “Mala, No. I’m safe here. Not dangerous.” Standing up, she walked around the table and stood next to the guild leader, leaning on her shoulder a little. “Edelweiss has helped me. Saved me. She’s not dangerous. I want to be here with her.” As Max said this, Edel wrapped an arm around the young girls shoulder, showing the feral child that she too cared for the young rogue.
