Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap
Open to Eiral, trial/intro for Kalum Wulfgang It was not typical that they would receive wind of a new recruit before their arrival in the barraks, but this new recruit was different to say the least. Lorraine was a traitor. Andronikos had not trusted her from their first meeting - but her loss was no help to their depleting numbers, and in their new-found desperation, they had to take whatever resources were available to them. It was apparent that their forces needed to be strengthened, as it was shameful for such a devastating failure, the loss of an important and vital prisoner and a few of their own ranks, to go on within what was meant to be Lodan's central of law enforcement and military. And all of this was thanks to bunch of Anderswelter, no less, making their defeat even more embarrassing. All of this was not important in the moment, Andronikos reminded himself. What was important was that everything was set up as planned. He stood near the entrance, stalk still, heavy, clad not in his armor, but in his uniform. It was important that his support of his army was apparent, and that he still wore its garb proudly. His eyes flickered to the door that led outside towards where the training field once was, only for a split second as he ran over what needed to be done between his memory, making sure that none of it had been forgotten. Like that, he waited. The newcomer would arrive any minute now - and he would take extra scrutiny to make sure this man was not a traitor as were others in their ranks, it seemed.

Kalum's arrival in the city had been a difficult adjustment and he had not yet been allowed to see all of the city's complete magnificence. With only a small portion of the city seen, he'd had to make his way to the EIRAL headquarters with his paperwork and official transcripts from the people's militia quarter in the countryside stuffed into his pouch. The quiet man paused in front of the gates and peered up at the structure before lazily lifting his gaze to the eagle screeching overhead. Slowly, she descended in loops before she came to land on his outstretched left arm. Kalum offered the bird the faintest of smiles before leading his way into the headquarters where he stopped several feet in front of Andro, a single brow raised at the man before him. "Kalum Wulfgang reporting," he spoke quietly, knowing the depth of his voice would still carry.
Andronikos glared heavily down at the new recruit, as he did with all of them, and sneered as his eyes veered towards the bird perched on Wulfgang's arm. He knew that the militia had been fond of hunting - and using predatory birds to help them do so - but such creatures were much too similar to their Anderswelter likenesses for his liking. With a roll of his dark eyes, Andronikos lumbered towards the open door, signaling with an apathetic flick of his wrist that Kalum should follow him. The towering man stood right outside the doorframe, peach pits circling his toes where he had stood while overseeing the work. Everything was in place, and he turned around to where Kalum should have been.

As Andronikos turned away, Kalum gave the bird a glance then lowered his left arm before lifting. The eagle took to the air instantly, climbing higher and higher until she was a spec in the sky. The new transfer then eyed the pits on the ground before silently following after Andronikos. Outside, he eyed everything in immediate view and marveled on how much grander it was than the structure for the People's Militia. With a quirked brow, he looked back to Andronikos and dipped his hand into the pouch that rested at his hip beneath his bow. Moments later, he produced the papers to offer the man in case he had been waiting for him to offer them or if he needed his copies, unsure if his branch had sent them off or not already.
Dark eyes sat on the papers for a moment before scanning Kalum in his entirety and turning back to the ruins around them. Burnt bricks and cracked concrete littered the landscape in an untouched reminder of nights before. Nobody had cleaned it yet. Nobody had the heart to. And in that, Andronikos work became easier. Scattered and hidden within the rubble were five chunks of beef, uncooked, five europium coins, glimmering, and the papers that the branch Kalum was previously part of had already sent in. Andronikos didn't want the papers in his hands - he wanted the ones they had hidden within the old barracks. "Tch," he murmured to himself as his eyes traced the eagle's path as it flew, then turned to Kalum. "Have him bring me the objects." He would not specify which objects - nor would he accept anything less than obedience of the bird from his master. If the bird couldn't be trusted, Kalum couldn't either.

Pressing his lips into a thin line, he tucked the papers back into their rightful place then eyed the demolation. He'd been unaware to the events that occurred and could only assume several things though he never bothered to ask. "She," he corrected softly but turned away from Andronikos nonetheless. Next, he let out a shrill, loud whistle to which the eagle screeched and flew lower. Kalum's eyes scanned the ruins before finding a section higher up than the rest. Without the other man's permission, not that he asked, he moved over and quickly found footings and holdings for his feet and hands before clambering up to make it serve as his vantage point. From up above, he could see several things. The first was the glimmering of the coins, the second was the whiteness of the paper, and thirdly the uncooked beef.
Kalum clenched his jaw and thought to himself. Fetch the items, this was surely the test. Birds of prey could not be tamed, they thrived on instinct after all, but most birds like Caracalla, and one he'd come across earlier were birds that tended to see their masters as mates. They worked together and they got things done. Undoubtedly, the glimmering had already caught the bird's sights followed by the beef. She could either go for the coins since they were readily noticeable or she could go for the beef as any predator would. The paper was the tricky one and if he had to gather, it was the item the other man truly wanted while the other two were possibly there to serve as distractions. Inhaling slowly through his nostrils, he slung the bow off his back and removed an arrow from the quiver strapped to his thigh. Notching the arrow, he then drew back the string easily and aimed it for the paper just as the eagle dove in for the meat. A second later, he released the tension of the bow and the arrow went soaring through the air to embed itself into the dirt just beside the paper. The action had caught the eagle's attention and she screeched before diving down to the marker given to her, forgetting all about the beef that had been awaiting her. In a swoop, her talons clutched the papers and she was back in the air circling her way over to Kalum with her catch. When she drew closer, he reached up a hand to snag the papers from her and tucked them into his belt. "Did you want the other things," he called from his perch as he canted his head to allow the massive bird onto his shoulders where she set a talon on his shoulder and the other on the side of his head.
No. It was too easy for him. What before would have been a sure sign of the new recruits aptitude was now once again a sign that elicited even more of Androniko's suspicion. Unfortunately, no such proof came to him, and he would have to think of something better - Something more dangerous. "Tch - gimme the papers." He snorted, irritation visibly gracing his brow as he held out his hand.

A single brow subtly lifted though other than that the raven haired man displayed no other signs of emotion. With a curt nod, he sent the bird back into the air then scrambled down the rock face of the rubble he stood on and hopped off at the last few yards to land on his feet with a soft thud. Straightening, he slung the bow back across his shoulders then steadily made his way over to Andronikos to offer him the papers.
Among any other sort of papers the military may keep records of a soldier were his attributes and documents written on his personality as well as judgement based on performance. There wasn't much to be written about him other than that he was a good soldier who followed his orders as one should and went beyond. His kill count was respectable, eight anders, three humans, and surprisingly one shadow beast though many others had helped in contribution with the last. After all, eagle hunters often worked in squads. The human number might have been alarming to Andronikos as it is known his squad of specialty meant they dealt only with anders, meriting the other man's suspicions. In silence, Kalum waited further instruction while his bird circled the air up above.
Andronikos snatched the papers forcefully from Kalum's hands and folded them over before slipping them in his belt. "Fine then - formalities. What are your reasons for join-" He cut himself off, as with an expression of suspicion, his gaze floated into the distance where it resonated for a few cold, silent moments, before he whispered, hushed, "Smells like..." his eyes went wide, "gunpowder." The second the syllables left his lips, a blast of heat seared the air before them, but not before Andronikos tackled Kalum behind the safety of the doorway.

Reasons for joining? Alice. Everything always came back to his little sister. There was much he left behind in Bimbury but none of that mattered now. She was happy and that's all he could want. Before he could answer, he was shoved into the door way and drew in a sharp breath as hot air seared passed them and they crashed into the ground. Caracalla! She was still out there in the air so she was likely safe, but still he worried. Shoving himself out from under Andronikos, he was on his feet already and removing his bow from across his shoulders to asses what had happened.
What the Hell was that? Andronikos shot up and darted outside not late after Kalum had. Andronikos gritted his teeth and scanned the area once more - where had it come from? They had gone through all of the rubble when setting up the trial for the new recruit - nothing could be hidden. Their defenses were nto what they should have been. Dammit! It was his fault after all. It should have been his plan to hike up the soldiers defending and scouting the area around the barracks, why wasn't this his first idea? He looked over towards Kalum who seemed to be frantically searching the skies for his bird thing...

Kalum found Caracalla easily though her form was receding whatever had caught her interest was headed in the direction of the forest and he wasn't sure whether it was related to the events that just occurred or not. His eyes then fell down to look at the landscape to search for any clues of tampering. He hopped down the steps and went to search for the center of the blast where he'd be able to move outward and see whether any foot prints or residue had been left behind to help him track.
"Footprints-" Andronikos murmured, as he stood at the place where the gutter on the side of the barracks roof and dust dribbled onto his hair - He looked up, and his eyes grew twice their size as his jaw clenched tighter. Above him, three bombs lay stratigically set - tails of flame flickering upon the tips of their fuses and crawling ever closer to destruction...

Kalum spotted the foot prints just as he heard Andronikos' voice. Turning around, he followed the direction of the man's gaze and his eyes widened slightly. This was either some crazy test or something not planned. Either way, he had little time to think. Climbing was something he was exceptionally good at and doing so quickly and efficiently would aid him. Kalum sprinted back and lept onto the side of the building to find a stone that jutted out and allowed a groove for his hands to clutch. His feet then found a footing on one of the window sills and using the structure's frame, he scaled his way up much like a cat would up a tree. Out in the wilderness Kalum learned to always be prepared and so carried a knife with him at all times even if he wasn't sufficient in using it. When he reached the top, he swung himself down at the level of where the bombs sat and then went into immediate work to slice the fuses near the base so the flame would not reach the bomb. He heaved a sigh of relief now that they would not blow... but he hoped whoever had set them didn't have a back up plan to shoot them in order to make them explode.
