Prepare for the #LodanRespawn2024 Existing characters may choose to be displace from/have memories of different timelines, thereby allowing returning members the option to retcon their whole character. These changes are the result of the "Unnatural Fog" plot device that is running between now and the Respawn. The plot is simple: no matter where your character is, that place is shrouded in a thick fog that suspends time, but not thoughts or memories, so even if they're repeating the same day over and over again, they continue to remember, so each time feels like a new day. For those retconning OCs; this is where new versions of themselves have the opportunity to replace the old versions. Official lore and tree updates will be announced asap

"Fascinating..." She actually meant it.
"About myself?" Alice hmmmed for a minute and took a sip of her coffee. Not bad... Kalum's was always too sweet. Oh! "Well, I'm new to the city. My brother and I are living with our uncle Johanne. He's always going on and on about building doomsday machines and death rays and stuff. My unce, not my brother." Alice quickly corrected herself. "Fortunately a he realy manages to make work are pretty baubles and trinkets that he sells. If you go to a ball or gala or something you might see his work."
Alice took a drink from her coffee to wet her throat. "My brother's in the military. He was a falconer for the local militia back in Bimbury, but he's been transferred to the city. You'd like him. He's big and sweet and more than a little scary. But he always looks dead tired and I don't know why." Alice shifted in her seat and smiled at Viktor.

Viktor paused his corrections to set his pencil down slowly then pass a glance over Alice. He nodded along to her words though he lifted a brow. That was not the answer to his question though he supposed it sort of was? She'd talked about people -in- her life but not really her. However, he had to give her that what she did mention was still by technicalities about her. "Alright," he said slowly and took a sip of his own coffee after--he liked his own without coffee and sugar but after seeing her drink, recalled not others did. "Nikolai, think you can bring Alice here some cream and sugar--wait, did you want cream and sugar? Never mind, Nik, would you please bring the stuff."
"Of course," came the bot's reply before he wandered off to retrieve the specified items.
"So you have an odd uncle--beg pardon, that's what I gathered, and you have a brother, you enjoy robotics, what else? Any hobbies like reading or writing? I got it, what about the city? You said you were new right? Have you seen any of the other districts yet? Do you like anything in particular about the city? Do you dislike anything about the city?" He made no further comments about the uncle or the brother as he was rather more curious with the girl he'd be sending to poor Amon later.

Rumor had it that a certain mechanic was back in town; the very mechanic in which he had ordered a bike from a long while back. So the noble decided it was high time that he visit the elusive man. With out much flare, he opened the Mechanic's shop and stepped in, donning his customary frown. "I do sincerely hope the owner of this building is around. I recall that said owner owes me a certain mechanical bike as well as en explanation for why it's creation is taking so long. I never knew the order I placed was so complex," he spoke loudly in a voice that practically dripped with sarcasm, knowing that Viktor would hear him. Was he a bit annoyed? Yes. Was he going to yell at Viktor? No, he still wanted that bike and yelling at the creator would get him nowhere.

"The cities amazing! It's like the very air breathes inspiration. I can't wait to actually go poking around and see how everything works. I'll bet there's some crazy tech work in the sewers to help keep the city running. No... I haven't been to much of the rest of the city. I'm trying to see as much as I can here, get some ideas for my next project. What about you? How long have you lived here?" Alice set her coffee down and scooted forward to the edge of her seat, her expression one of rapt attention.
...Only to have it interrupted. She turned to look at person who just entered and started complaining loudly. Oh... a customer of his. She slid back in her seat and kind of slumped in on herself to wait for business to be finished. It appears that the people who she could talk to about her work were busy little bees indeed.

Viktor listened with polite intent as the girl spoke on the city and therefore answered most of his questions but not all. "Me?" The red head leaned back in the seat and kicked his left leg up to throw over the armrest of his chair while he shifted his weight to slouch more to the right. "Lived here all my life--old man was a master engineer in the wa--" he was interrupted by the entrance of Stephen and the mechanic groaned while simultaneously rolling his eyes. "Joy kill," he mouthed to the girl then smirked as he twisted the chair with his right foot before rising. "He's here, he's here," came the reply with a dismissive wave of his hand. "Your order ain't complex... things just, uh, look I don't want to talk about the personal reasons but I have been out o' town for almost a year. That's why. I'll have it done by the end of the week."
Nk-5 was already preparing tea for Stephen as he had remembered it to be one year ago and when it was ready he brought it over to offer the noble. "Oh, yeah, Sunshine, this here is Alice," he gestured to the girl then back to Stephen. "Alice, this is Sunshine. She's new to the city so be nice, huh. Alice he's noble."

Upon sight of Viktor he crossed his arms and gave him the once over. He did not look as if he had been through a mid-life crisis or had been wounded in any way so this out of town excuse did not appease him. "I am dreadfully sorry, but are you Viktor? It has been so long that I have forgotten what his ungrateful face looked like," he mused, knowing exactly who he was talking to but still intent on giving him a hard time.
The Viktor invoked some unpleasantness in him, this new girl Alice was undeserving of his wrath. "Hello Alice. Please, call me Stephen," he nodded politely to her while plotting to get Viktor back for that sunshine comment. "Welcome to Lodan. Are you a new merchanic or just a friend of Viktor's?." He paused to thank NK-5 for the offering of tea, "Good to see you again, Nikolai"

Alice stifled a giggle when Viktor mouthed joy kill and did her best to keep a straight face listening to the two banter back and forth. Sunshine didn't seem like the right name for... there it was. Stephen. Alice quickly bounced to her feet when she heard he was a noble and started to bow, changed her mind to curtseying, then went back to bowing. All in all, it would have been rather comical watching the girl from the countryside struggle with how to greet a noble.
"A pleasure to meet you, uhhh... Stephen." He said call him by his name so she thankfully didn't have to worry about titles. "I'm just new to the city. I helped Viktor and Nikolai and he said he'd introduce me to a robotics expert."

"It is a pleasure to see you again, mister Stephen," came NK-5's reply to which Viktor guffawed.
"Oh, please, Nikky, you can't feel a thing and even if you could, I doubt it'd be pleasure in seeing this dead ray of sunshine," he gestured at Stephen with a point of his thumb before looking to Alice as she desperately tried to decide whether to bow or curtsey. "Oi, girlie, ya ain't gotta do that," he said with a snort as he folded his arms and leaned back to rest his hips on his desk. "He's a noble, it's just fancy titles that don't mean shite, really--unless you care about money."
"...Viktor, are you not a mechanic?"
"I am, Nikolai, your point?"
"Would that not mean you rely on his money and patronage?"
"...Shut up, Nik, no one asked you." Recalling Stephen's previous comment, the red head looked to the noble and replied, "of course I'm Viktor and I hardly doubt you'd forget given your excitement on that ride I took you on a year ago." A wink accompanying a smirk followed his words, intentionally hinting at something else for the sake of embarrassing Stephen.
"But aye, Alice here helped patch up Nikolai so I'm goin' to introduce her to good ol' Amon. Since she's new to town, you think there's anywhere she should see first? Places to try? Alice, what do you enjoy eating? You never answered me about hobbies I don't think..." Or did she? He couldn't recall. She'd spent so much time talking about other things not her, really. "Oh, wait, wait, wait. You mentioned the sewers. We could take a peek down there to see if there is anything down there worth seeing."
Post by Stephen Leland on Sept 5, 2015 20:34:47 GMT
How surprising; she was interested in robot expert like Amon? Maybe she built her own robots too. The noble could not help but smirk a little at the comical sight of the small woman trying to figure out how to greet him. The comical exchange between Nikolai and Viktor only made the smirk widen. At Viktor's mention of the ride his amused look dropped to an annoyed and slightly embarrassed frown. "It must have slipped my mind," he lied, knowing exactly what the mechanic was talking about.
A disgusted look lit his features at Viktor's words, "Out of all the places in Lodan you could take Miss Alice and you choose to take her to the sewers. What are you, some kind of animal?" Shaking his head he turned to Alice, "I would suggest the theater district. There are a lot of shops there that might catch your interest and if you are looking for entertainment it is the best place to go. I am curious, are you interested in building robots?"
Post by Alice Wulfgang on Sept 5, 2015 21:18:04 GMT
Alice looked between the two as they spoke and giggled before answering them. First, Stephen. "Yes, I'm interested in most of the sciences, but I really love robotics." She shifted her weight from one foot to the other. "But really, I asked him if I could see the sewers. See, the way I figure, the city has to have some kind of infrastructure in place to help it run the way it does. If we're looking at an economical use of space, having the system run in the sewers saves the most space and already has a network in place."
Alice made a face at mention of the theater district but quickly tried to hide it. It wasn't that she disliked the idea, it was just that she came to Lodan for its technological marvels, not its plays. "The theater district sounds... nice. I'll have to see if Kalum wants to go see something sometime soon."

"See? Sewers is a great idea, Sunshine," Viktor stated with a grin and a wave of his hand as he returned back to his drafting table than dropped himself back onto the seat so that he may lounge. "She doesn't sound all that thrilled 'bout the theatre district." A smirk spread over his features as he rocked himself side to side with the heels of his feet in his spinning chair. "So, Alice. Sewers and clock tower are some things I think you'd love to see--oh, you know what. Since Stephen is a -nice- and -charitable- noble, maybe he'll take you to see all o' his fancy tech in his manor." The words 'nice' and 'charitable' had been said with a touch of sarcasm.

"I see," the noble replied hesitantly, narrowing his eyes at Viktor's triumphant smirk. Well, evidently Alice was unlike any other woman he had ever met if she truly wished to spend her times in the sewer system. Then again, Lodan was full of unconventional women. "Is Kalum a family member or friend of yours? I do not think i have met him yet," he mused, reaching up to rub a kink out of his neck. If they were going to explore the clock tower then it might be for the best that he let them tour around the city on their own. He wanted no part of that place which stirred up unpleasantness at the memory of Edel dragging him home- pathetic, truly pitiful.
Then Viktor just had to go and suggest that they all take a little field trip to his home. "I know not where you come from Viktor but here it is seen in bad taste to try and force your way into another's house without prior invitation. I doubt there is anything that would really catch Miss Alice's attention in my house anyways," not to mention that Charles was home with a raging hangover. There was no way he would wish that problem on anyone, especially on a new resident of Lodan.

Alice nodded to Viktor with a happy smile on her face. "Most certainly! Being able to get a look at the inner workings of the city itself is something everyone who even pretends to know something about technology should have done, and knowing how they work is even better." Alice's expression went from excited at the prospect of city exploring to an uncomfortable smile at the mention of Stephen's house. Who was she to go to a noble's house? No, better to avoid that.
Alice turned to Stephen and replied. "Kalum's my big brother! He's new to the city too! He decided to come with me when I told him I was leaving Bimbury." Alice nodded in agreement with Stephen's comments about doubting anything would catch her attention.

"Force? Why, Stephen, this pretending to hate me just has to stop. You know and I know that we both know that you like me and as such, your ire is wasted. You'll walk out that door and then come right back in and then we'll talk and yell some more and then... Oh, right, right, Alice is still here--how -rude- of me. I wasn't inviting myself, simply suggesting. I am most certain that in a noble's house you've got to have something far more fittin' there for her too look at instead of some stuff in an old, broken clock tower. Unless you'd rather she go drudging around in the sewers with someone like me. I just know how much of a trustworthy person you think I am--Not that I'd ever do anything--Nikolai... Nikolai, what are you doing?" His attention was stolen by clattering from his soldier brother.
"I was throwing out expired foods, Viktor."
"Huh, well then, carry on. As I was saying... what was I saying," he trailed off and furrowed his brows then snapped his fingers, "Oh, right. You can either show her your home or entrust me to be a good person and not do something stupid. Your choice." Tossing a glance to Alice, he grinned. "You're going to love it here in the city, Alice. Just wait until holidays come passing through. The festivities are amazing--huh, ain't the Jubilee supposed to be soon?"

"That is quite noble of your brother to accompany you to the city," or desperate depending on if one looked on it with an optimistic or pessimistic eye. The more Viktor talked the more displeased and incredulous Stephen looked. He shook his head in disbelief at Viktor, "I have no words, Croswell. No words."
