<LunieLu>This was it, the night of the Baron of Cockfoster's Masquerade Ball, the one event that had been the topic of many excited whispers throughout the streets of Lodan; much gossip had occurred since the ball had been announced by the man himself, many said that this was merely a diversion for the past civil war that had caused such misery and pain, others stated that this was merely a trap to get many of the surviving guilds out of the woodwork; there was one rumor that was held above all else and that was that the Baron would be announcing the engagement of his daughter tonight. The whole of Lodan had gotten an invite, including Elowyss, it had been handed to her one morning whilst she was opening up the Pharmacy; deciding it wouldn't be a bad idea to mingle, Ella had decided to go along as the idea of spying on many of her enemies was too thrilling to pass up..That was until she tried on the one gown she had left and even that was torn and tattered; "I look ridiculous.." She muttered beneath her breath, tugging at the hem of her dress whilst clearing up her Pharmacy.
<Comical1>Caitlin: She tugged on her mask and sighed in the mirror. As far as dresses went, this was the most unflattering she'd ever worn, but it seemed almost fitting in the fact that it was being worn to an event her father was hosting. In polite society at least- she still played her part as the barons daughted, but in a more comfortable world, the one she'd grown most adapt to, she was a queen among rogues. At a B.o.R party she'd dress much differetly. Accepting her fate tonight, (not knowning how very estute such a thought was) she turned and walked down the stairs to stand at the doorway and greet the early arrivals to the Masquerade of the season.
<Yelsah>Sienna Had not been overly excited for the ball, but had gone out of her way to dress appropriately. She didn't go out much soat the least it wouldbe fun and there would be free food. But there was also the chance that someone might be looking for guild members and leaders so she'd let Mingo tag along. He came as himself but was sporting some nice ankle covers and had a black silk bow tie around his neck. Obviously he looked dashing and he felt this to be true. He plodded along side his human companion as they stepped inside. Both of them immediately zeroed in on the table of food and after the woman waved at Cait they headed that way. There really was no other reason to be there after all.
<feliceMemoria>The Baron's letter had been lying on her desk for weeks, the typewriter font a stark contrast to the milky white of the paper. Acantha carefully tied off the bands of her corset; it was her fancier one, which had the laces on the side, making it possible to get into it by herself. Her dress wasn't exactly a ball gown, per se, but one of her work dresses that she used only for special occasions. It would simply have to do. Last thing to go was the mask… she considered it for several moments, then decided to put it on right away; figures most of the city would be wearing similar ones, anyway. A quick sweep through her cupboard and there were two small silver knives to be hidden in a shoe and a loop on the inside of her corset. Lord knows she's needed them more than once already. Checking her outfit a last time in her mirror, she pulled on her squats and left her flat. The streets were relatively empty in her part of the town, but there was a faint buzz of voices and music wafting in from the distance. Click clack, the sound of her heels followed her over the cobblestone as she made her way to the apothecary of her guild leader, politely waiting for her at the streetlight in front of it.
<LunieLu>Elowyss finally pulled on her masquerade mask, tying the ribbon in a bow at the back of her head and fixing her dress one last time; she dimmed the lights of her pharmacy and then approached the front door, noticing that Acantha was standing on her doorstep. "Evening Acantha" Ella nodding her head in greeting one of her fellow brethren, turning back to the front door of her Pharmacy to lock it.
<Zigzagoomba>Connor: Walks through the doors, and catches sight of Sienna, he walks over to her. "H-hello." He flashes a nervous smile, and rubs his arm in embarressment.
<Awa303>Epikuro: *heard Cait is throwing a party, so to a party she's going* =3 *hums random funny little songs all the way*
<Yelsah>Sienna Glannced over at Connor and smiled and had to choke down her tart to say hello. "Hi there, I see you came." She replied. Mingo cast a scrutinizing gaze at the man. He hadn't accepted him yet. To make his point he casually placed himself between them in the most nonchalant manner he could manage which wasn't much.
<feliceMemoria>Acantha: "Evenin' ", she greeted back, eyes flashing in the dim light. "Yer excited yet?" Of course, both of them rather went for information than actual entertainment, but it wouldn't hurt to get into her role of the normal citizen (well, apart from her job that is) early.
<Law-of-Murph>Jak looked at the large doors to the Baron's mansion, and, straightening his mask and trying to look as presentable as possible in his found articles of clothing, slowly entered the ball. The scent of food, and particularly little cakes, met his nose and he scanned the room for the source.
<LunieLu>Elowyss grinned at the woman over her shoulder, hiding her key down the front of her dress as the attire she wore didn't come equipped with pockets; "Oh, quite..I'm rather anxious to find out what the night will bring.." She turned on her heel, facing Acantha and glacing up at the taller woman; "Come, let's head off" She started down the street, her heels clacking on the cobblestones loudly.
<Comical1>Caitlin: She continued to wave people in, propelling them with little resistance to the buffet table covered in hot orderves, fine wine, Fresh catch of the day seared and served succulent and tender. She found herself pleasantly impressed with all of the finely dressed and mysteriously masked patrons. "I might just have fun at this party after all," she whispered out loud, offering her hand once more to another guest in the door way. "Pleasure to meet you, I'm your hostess, Caitlin."
<Awa303>Epikuro: I know, Cait; I know you already, remember... *waves back awkwardly*
<Comical1>Caitlin: She recognized that voice, though the mask had decieved her "Clever disguise, Edel" She complimented with a broad smile, "great to see you again"
<feliceMemoria>Acantha: Golden eyes met hers for a moment, making Acantha genuinely smile; Elowyss was such a pretty little thing, in addition to her smarts, she made a fine leader. Walking by her side, she surveyed their surroundings, always on the lookout for petty thieves that chose the commotion as a convenient distraction. As it was, they reached the mansion without any such difficulties. People were everywhere, littering both the square in front of and the inside of the mansion, many of them already with glasses in their hands. "Ta, can see how that could still get interestin'." Her lips curled into a smirk as she recognized several of the patrons, as well as the blond woman standing at the door.
<Awa303>Epikuro: ........ IB *clamps Cait's mouth with both hands while looking at her with a "you-don't-know-what-you're-saying-girl"*
<Comical1>**edit** She recognized that voice, though the mask had decieved her "Clever disguise, Edel" She complimented with a broad smile, "great to see you again"
<LunieLu>Elowyss approached the mansion with Acantha at her side, stopping at the bottom of the front steps, Ella turned to her companion; speaking to her in a barely audible whisper, "Find out what you can, keep an eye on everyone, do not start any trouble either; we are here to observe." She then smiled, the smile she wore was not friendly in any way, but it was cruel and somewhat cunning; as though there was a promise of much chaos to come. Elowyss turned back to the mansion, climbing the stairs slowly as she raised the front of her dress so she wouldn't trip over it.
<feliceMemoria>Acantha: "Of course, darlin'~", she whispered back, feeling a familiar kind of excitement bubbling up. Her smirk widened for a second, before she replaced it with a flirty and cheerful expression, eagerly joining her companion up the stairs. Right at the entrance was the missus from the other day, currently turned the other way as she was talking to someone else. "G'evenin, miss Cockfoster!" A sweet sing-song as she lay her hand on the girls waist, grinning at how she immediately flinched away. "Done up nicely today, aren't ya?"
<Law-of-Murph>Jak toddled over to the table covered with food and popped a small, delicate cake into his mouth before looking around. He realised Sienna and Connor were standing a few feet away, so he walked over to them and bowed clumsily. "Allo, you two........three." He stared at Mingo, then fished through his pockets and produced a single licorice stick, offering it to him.
<Comical1>Caitlin: She waved Edel on to the buffet table just as a hand slid around her waist. She turned to face her new arrivals and flinched at the touch, which unfortunately, was exactly the reaction miss Acantha was looking for judging by the smug look on her face. Cait looked down at her hands then back up to her face and present company. Good, no gear grease on either one of them, she signed with relief. "I'm so glad you both could make it please join the party and have a few appetizers, when my father returns from his study the activities will begin."
<LunieLu>Elowyss scanned the entrance hall of the Manor, noting the group of people by the buffet table and also became aware that Acantha had left to greet the hostess of the evening, so Ella took it upon herself to mingle. She approached the buffet table also, keeping within eavesdropping distance of the group that had settled nearby; she poured herself a glass of wine and started to sip it whilst listening in.
<Yelsah>Sienna Glanced over at Jak and smiled. "Hey there." She said politely. Mingo did not appreciate the peace offering and snatched it up to throw it to the ground. The woman just sighed and shook her head. "Sorry about him. he's pretty protective."
<feliceMemoria>Acantha: She lifted one of her eyebrows at the response, which wasn't a response at all. "Had a couple a those balding ol' men do that all evenin long already, eh? Pity tha' I get thrown into that group so easily." Glancing their hostess up and down for a second, she decided that her outfit must've been chosen by someone else, considering how out of place the pink lace seemed on her. "Gotta say, green n a sword fit ya better than this thing thou."
<Comical1>Caitlin: now that got her attention, and snapped her out of the hone-drone monotone auto-pilot replies she'd been offering to all their citizens entering through their door. Her father was off on some 'special business' behind closed doors in his study, leaving Cait to her own devices to keep everyone comfortable. Her own mother was a lost cause, prefering to hide in the kitchen with the hired help and prepare their meals than be seen in public. Anyone who cared to speculate, speculated the baroness was bedridden or dead. Cait zero'd her eyes in on Acantha and offered the girl a small wry smile. "How estute of you, and how strange I should find myself agreeing but yes, this dress is a far cry from what I would want to wear tonight. If things don't pick up soon, I might just be inclined to create a diversion of my own... something that would be better conducted in a hiked skirt and sword? Genuinely glad to have a bit of tang to go along with all this milk and honey tonight." She meant the tart, Acantha.
<LunieLu>Elowyss continued sipping her beverage, turning to look out amongst the different guests again, smiling at the scene of Acanta doing her best to annoy Caitlin. She then allowed her gaze to wonder along the walls of the manor, taking in all the different designs, furnishings and decor, the Baron was a wealthy man that much was certain..but from the looks of it, he had very dull taste.
<Coffee-sama>So then in the entrance of the place, a short-haired blondie appeared in her black outfit. It has been a while since she'd seen anyone and, even if the party was host by her loved friend, she was rather nervous. Taking a deep breath and readjusting a bit her shoes (heels weren't her thing) she walked through the big door.
<feliceMemoria>Acantha: "So kind a you." From that woman, that line actually did sound like a compliment. "Ain't here to cause much chaos thou… unless you want me to blow some high-class bastard where someone accidentally might see." Wouldn't've been the first time and generally was fun, unless the men refused to pay afterwards. She glanced over to where she's last seen Ella and felt strangely compelled to bid her company as she still stood there alone; rooted at the same place, apparently taking in the surroundings.
<Comical1>Caitlin: "I'd rather you didnt, might give the ol' man a heart attack should something unexpected happen that wasn't my fault (since that at least, he would expect)," then she spotted Sarah making her way to the front doors. "Lovely chat, but have to catch up with you again a bit later if you'll excuse me," Cait slipped away and lady-like or not, threw herself into her best friend for a hug. "Sarah, so glad you could make it!"
<Law-of-Murph>Jak looked down at the licorice that was tossed on the floor with large, watery eyes and slowly bent down to pick it up, replacing it into his pocket. He looked at Sienna and smiled a little lopsidedly. "S'okay, I'll have it later since he dun't want it."
<LunieLu>Elowyss glanced over at the small group nearby, chuckling lightly at the scene that was present before her; the pink flamingo caused her to raise an eyebrow in curiosity, before she recalled whom owned the said animal. "Mingo..Of course." She smirked, sipping the wine from her glass.
<Coffee-sama>Sarah looked around. It was really fancy, too much for herself, she thought. The last time she'd been on a place like that was on Avery's, some time ago, but this place was much more alive and cozy. So absorbed in thoughts, she didn't see Cait coming and her hug took her for surprise, letting a little scream go. "Ah-Cait! It's good to see you too" Sarah chuckled, and wrapped her arms around her old friend. "How've you been! It's been so long since last time I saw you. I hope you hadn't become so important you forgot about your old crew and adventures" winked with a long smile on her face.
<feliceMemoria>Acantha shrugs at that answer, can't fault her for trying. "Sure, misses good manners." She watches the other woman depart and this time round, lifts both eyebrows as she practically launched herself at some other girl. Ahh, the feeling of rejection. A butler passed by with a tablet of glasses, making her nick one for herself before walking back to Ella. "Discovered the lil missus mightn't be too fond a her dad. Shocking, eh?"
<LunieLu>"Oh?" Elowyss smirked as she turned her attention to Acantha, raising her glass to her; "Daddy's little girl isn't Daddy's little girl anymore?" She glanced over to Caitlin and the blonde that she was hugging, raising an eyebrow, "How curious.."
Part 2:
<LunieLu>The second long awaited night of the Baron's Masquerade Ball was here at last, the soft patter of rain could be heard against Elowyss' bedroom window as she fixed her hair for the evening, running a comb softly through the gentle waves. 'Parasol, must remember the parasol', Ella thought to herself after rising to her feet, pulling the soft drapes either side of her window shut; blocking out any view of her bedroom from the outside world. The grand party would be starting soon, which meant that the young guild leader had to leave the warmth of her home, even if she didn't want to step out into the miserable weather.
<Yelsah>Sienna Had been late getting ready as always. Her mechanic job took up most of her time and she lost track of it while she worked. Or got stuck. Mingo wasn't coming this time though so she'd left him to watch HQ while she got into her dress and headed out to go to the Ball. Maybe this time she'd get to eat some food..
<Law-of-Murph>Jak hid under the roof of a nearby shop to keep out of the rain. He'd set his mind on avoiding the drink he'd had last time, he couldn't really remember what happened after he'd emptied the glass.
<LunieLu>"Jak?" Elowyss muttered softly behind the younger male, clutching a parasol in her left hand and her right positioned on the door handle of her shop's front door, she gave him a small smile. "Trying to keep dry, I see." She glanced up at the gloomy clouds in the sky before looking back at him.
<JackTheXIV>Ol' Patches He kept his bag bundled together He wore his metal mask proudly. as he locked up his shop and left a sign in front of the door, he turned to the road, his eyes whirred softly as he took a deep breath, It was humid, maybe a storm later tonight.
<Yelsah>Sienna Had thrown on a heavy shawl to make the trip to the ball. She hated this cold. Why'd have to throw these things in the winter anyway? What was the point? She shivered a little as she neared the place again and stood outside to eye the architecture. It was so nicely built.
<Law-of-Murph>Jak turned to Ella. "Oh, allo." He smiled and tipped his hat. "Yeh.....it's a bit too wet for me."
<Awa303>Epikuro is going to the ball again. She found a bit weird when the first date was delayed, but so be it, that meant free food again. She just hoped Cait's father had not stuck himself in trouble, since last time the ball was cancelled exactly because he didn't show up. It was so cold lately too! And raining! She was sheltered in sowhere next to the entrance of the building that shielded her from the rain, a scarf and long coat over the gown outfit... well not exacttly a gown, she was still wearing pants. It was more of a gale attire. Distracted, Epikuro spotted somewhere approaching - and that person gave her an odd and random crave for chocolate, which must mean... "Hi Sie! =3"
<LunieLu>Ella leant out of the archway of the shop entrance to open her parasol, she stepped out beneath it and then turned on her heel to Jak, tilting her head; "Shall we get going?"
<JackTheXIV>new Patches "hmm best make my way out it seems to have started raining sooner than i had predicted!" Patches made a quick sprint along the paved road towards the Cockfoster manor.
<Yelsah>Sienna Turned back to see Epi giving her an odd look but smiled and waved. "Hello, here for the free food?" SHe asked with a grin and spotted Patched running towards them. She held her hand higher to wave at him. "We should go inside now yes." She said with a shiver as she slipped into the entrance to escape the cold.
<Awa303>Epikuro "Food guess--- I mean good... well, yeah. //D" No shame at all. But she followed Sienna and Patches.
<Law-of-Murph>Jak grinned and stepped under her parosol, gesturing to link elbows.
<LunieLu>Elowyss linked her arm with his, making their way towards the Baron's manor near the center of town, pulling her light shawl tighter around her shoulders and making sure that they were both shielded from the rain as they continued along the path.
<JackTheXIV>Muthafrakin PATCHES he kept his head down and didn't really notice anyone until sienna was right behind him, "oh hello everyone" he smiled to them "How are you on this wonderful day?"
<Awa303>Epikuro's stomach growled its greetings to Patches in response to his call.
<JackTheXIV>Patches smile slightly lessened as his eyebrows lowered
<Yelsah>Sienna Continued to give Epi an odd look. More so when her stomach growled. "Ah wonderful day? It's freezing, that si not wonderful in any way." She replied with a small grin as stepping inside had warmed her up.
<Awa303>Epikuro "Heyo. And I'm hungry (though I think it's easily noticeable), but also easily fixed. And how are you? =u="
<Comical1> Caitlin: Today she was dressed much more to her personal likes than the first ball where she wore that terrible red and pink combination. No not tonight, it was all gold and no sleeves for her. :thumb356971873: with a gold mask to match. She stood near the doors of the ballroom, not willing to greet guests at the front door as before due to the weather, in here is where everyone who arrived was ushered to after a quick pit stop at the samplers table near the main wing. A small buzz of conversation filled the room and it was then, when everyone seemed to have made theirselves at home, that the Baron made his grand entrance. He was dressed fashionably from head to toe in black, with only a hint of white for a cravat at the neck. As for a mask, he believed his left-eye spyglass was sufficient even though it did nothing to hide his identity. Standing near the grand piano, he called for everyone to quiet please, and lend him their attention.
<JackTheXIV>GUESS WHO? IIIIITTTSSSS PATCHES "COLD?!" he laughed heartily "My darling the Clouds above are cold, This?..." he held his hand out "Why let me tell you back in my military days, I used to Fix outer Pipes on War zepplins Holding on cold Lead clips that froze your hand if you touched them, Air would drop below freezing up there in the sky I gotta tell you........."
<Yelsah>Sienna shivered at Patches statement. "Ah no I don't need to hear that." She whined and looked on in surprise as the Baron finally showed up. With some snacks in hand she stood wand waited to hear what he said.
<Awa303>Epikuro is now simultaneously amazed at how good Cair look in golden and disappointed that now she doesn't look like a red velvet cupcake.
<LunieLu>Elowyss had made her way to the ball with Jak about 5 minutes before the Baron had made his grand entrance, leaving her parasol at the door; she went to warm up by the bar, clutching a wine glass in hand as she waited to hear what the Baron had to say.
<Comical1> Caitlin: She watched as her father waved a hand toward a masked figure standing next to a woman who could be only Elowyss with that gorgeously unique mane of hair. Caits curiousity perked, not recognizing the man in his finery or his mask, and she wondered why he and not she had been summoned to her fathers side. Then, it was as if her thought had carried - because daddy-dearest turn to find her in the crowd, waving her forward as well. Once the two were summoned on either side of him near the grand piano, the baron cleared his throat. "Tonight, is a very special night, and I do apologize for the delay from the last party we hosted but all in due time I assure you, it is well worth the wait. As you all know, I have only one child, Mistress Caitlin of Cockfoster, and since she has been.... remiss... in her duties to find a suitable, well, match... I have taken responsibility for my heir and my estate in choosing a suitable match for her. Without further adeui, it is my pleasure to annouce before all of you wonderful guests; the engagement of the Baroness of Cockfoster and Sir Alexander Cohen"
<JackTheXIV>PATCHES! "I'm sorry sienna" patches frowned "But I'll be heading out of town and will have to miss the ball, Please try if you can to tell me all about it when i get back!" patches continued on the road down to the ports.
<Awa303>Epikuro raised an eyebrow at the speech and Cait not even looking able to recognize her new fiancee. "And now the cat flips a table..."
<JackTheXIV> Sir Cohen he walked out in front of the crowd as guests were still arriving, His father was in the corner stuffing his face and socializing 'oh that's my son yes, A great and wonderful child!' could be heard as the old man laughed heartily, Alexander smiled and laughed shaking hands with the guests until he came in front of Cait. "Well, Caitlyn of Cockfoster, As beautiful as i'd imagined" he stared through an awkward White and black half mask, "shall we then have a dance?"
<Comical1> Caitlin: To be fair there were a total of two reasons she didn't errupt right then and there. The first, was the crowd, most of whom didn't know much about her outside of her title and wealth and that was a good thing and the way she intended to keep it. The second reason, however, was more to do with 'him' the fiance. He looked really dashing and mysterious in a mask and suit but something about him felt too familiar... like a piece from her other life, and that worried her... did this mean he of all peiople might know who she really was? Did he set up this arrangement in secret with her father to best the both of them? When he manuevered himself to face her and offered his arm for a dance, her curiousity won over her anger (though it still simmered under the surface) and she gave a polite curtsey with acute sharpness in her gaze. "It would be a pleasure," she replied, though her eyes watched him with piercing severity - just so he would know this would not be a said and done deal without her exact and full willing participation. And others had tried -- and failed-- in the past to extract that.
<Yelsah>Sienna Wasn't too well versed in the politics of Lodan. She had no real love for it. Her guild and her job was all she needed. The engagement was a surprise, but more than anything it sucked. Being forced to marry someone couldn't be fun. As who the guy might be, she had no real idea.
<JackTheXIV>Sir Cohen he grabbed her hand and pulled her to the middle of the floor, the strings section of the band began playing a soft lulling piece. Cohen smiled as he stared at her, holding her hand as he twirled her and pulled her back in, he had had dancing lessons when he was 17 his father had always enforced that they would be true gentlemen.
<LunieLu>At the news of the engagement, Elowyss nearly choked on her drink, coughing and spluttering as it had gone down the wrong hole and she ended up having to place it down on the bar; turning to watch the new couple as they shared a dance, "..An arranged marriage? I bet daddy's little girl isn't too pleased.." Ella muttered to herself.
<Awa303>Epikuro "...Bet? If Cait's happy with that then the apocalypse is near. =/"
<Comical1> Caitlin: "As - unexpected - as this arrangement is... Cohen... you do seem familiar, have we met before? Is there a first name to go with that title, sir?" She asked as sweetly as she could manage. It wasn't as easy to keep the bite out of her voice when she was much more used to conversing sailors than gentlemen, dispite her upbringing. All that remission her father mentioned of her not choosing a suitor from his associates, just meant she'd wasted the better part of her time avoiding the lot of them.
<SonicEdge7>Amon had just arrived, due to a combination of losing track of time and thinking the ball would start later, so it was no wonder he was a bit...lost. Deciding to hang back, wondering what the heck he missed.
<JackTheXIV>Sir Cohen "One question at a time my love, I do believe this almost like a blind date is it not, If I had ever met you... well I guess I'd have the Upper hand? ... don't you think?" He smiled lightly "You can call me Alexander Or Alex as you grow into it maybe even 'my love' or something of that nonsense" he again twirled her and took a brief scan of her up and down, "my that is a Lovely Dress!"
<Yelsah>Sienna Meandered over to the table of food after a while. This was why she'd come after all.
<Awa303>Epikuro followed Sienna. And the food scent. Yes both of them. Though she's still expecting Cait to glare someone to death.
<Comical1> Caitlin: My Love? Really? That was a bit extreme for her, and she was about to snap at him that he was crossing the line (even though, as her new fiance maybe he wasn't) but then he gave a wicked, knowing grin, and his words about having the upper hand struck. HE did know her from SOMEWHERE. "Alexander? Alex? Al? no... Alex, Alex, Al--Lex, Le-" She dropped his hands and her feet came to a staggering halt. Her breath caught in her throat and her hand flew to lay over her heart. No... it couldn't be... he was dead... Wasn't he? Her eyes snapped up to scrutinize him. She reached her other hand, almost as if she wanted to tenderly stroke his face, but really she wanted to rip off his mask, and see for herself.
<SonicEdge7>Amon was still a bit lost in what was happening, and the sea of unrecognizable faces was starting to bother him. It was a relief when he saw a familiar face (or at least, from what he could see under the mask) heading towards the food table. So, with nothing else to do, he headed towards the figure. "Hey Sienna."
<LunieLu>Elowyss approached the food table also, leaning against the wall near it and picking up a small, neatly cut sandwich to nibble on as she watched the fireworks unfold between the couple on the dance floor; from what she could tell of Cait's body language, the lady of the house was far from impressed with her father's choice in suitors.
<JackTheXIV>Lex Cohen "now now": he grabbed her hand and pulled it from his face. "we wouldn't want to ruin the fun befo-"
Thomas Cohen "My boy, there's been an Incident, I need your help" Alexanders father had a rushed tone of voice as he waved the boy over "please be quick".... oooooohhhh
<Yelsah>Sienna Smiled at Epi when he joined her at the table. "Do you know what all this mess is about?" She asked watching the goings on.
<Comical1> Baron of Cockfoster: "AHEM!!! Everyone please make your way to the dining room, the table has been set and dinner is served," He motioned the patrons out past the horderves table where they seemed to congregate the most. After all, this was merely the cocktail hour.
<Awa303>Epikuro "You mean, besides Cait's dad being crazy enough to think she'll accept an engagement like this smoothly?" and someone she vaguely suspected had been one of her colleages in her 'other job' before Lodan's war was dancing with aforementioned Cait. Epikuro took a colorful drink and started using the straw to play with it as they walked. "Perhaps he thought the crowd and party would 'easen' her mood after the news." And she hoped nothing else further than that.
<SonicEdge7>Amon started to follow the rest of the crowd, trying his best to blend in. "ah well," he muttered to himself, "I guess I'll find out what's happening eventually..."
<Yelsah>"Oh? Well yeah I suppose." She said and continued stuffing her face. Maybe she should've brought Mingo to simply not be bored.
<Awa303>Epikuro should have brought her blond troublesome and prone-to-get-drunk kitty to avoid getting bored too.
<LunieLu>Ella followed the crowd as they were ushered off into the dining room, taking her seat nearest to the window, watching all the other guests around her and especially the Baron himself; he definitely seemed nervous about the whole night, no doubt he was expecting a backlash from his own daughter as a response to his 'surprise'.
<Comical1> Caitlin: She wasn't going to take this blow like a lady would.. Oh no, she would handle things, her own special personal way. Letting the Cohen's part from the crowd to address their own matters, she scribbled a quick misif on her hanky and discreetly passed it to the footman. "Give this to my first mate, he'll know what to do" On the cloth the words EXTRACTION METHOD 2.6- IMMEDIATELY were written in black eyeliner. It wouldn't take them long to arrive, and she couldn't wait to see this party "light up" with the plan
<JackTheXIV>Lex Cohen He turned back and looked at Cait "GO and enjoy the dinner, I'll be back as fast as I can"
<Awa303>Epikuro's work senses are tingling. Or maybe it's just her stomach. She hoped it was her stomach and kept eating the delicious free food.
<Law-of-Murph>Jak wandered around, a little confused, then noticed the table with free food and headed toward it.
<Comical1> Caitlin: Her father made the ever arduous and annoying effort to seat everyone according to his pre-planned seating chart. In the end, Cait stood up, clinked a spoon to a glass and invited everyone to take a seat at once. With everyone grabbing a chair the servers unveiled silver platters toppling with hot meals of veal, duck, and lamb. There were whipped potatoes, spring peas, and asparagus too. Steaming pots of tea were placed every few seats to a row, and a buttler with a bottle of wine went person to person offering to fill their glasses. Cait checked the clock against the wall in its gold gilded frame, and counted the minutes till her plan would take effect. Finally--she thought-- some excitement, coming right up.
<SonicEdge7>Amon somehow got seated, still slightly confused at what is happening. Deciding to stop worrying, he decided to fill his plate and chow down
<LunieLu>Elowyss held her glass up to the waiter to indicate that she wanted it filled, taking a sip of it whilst she watched everyone eating; she placed a few potatoes on her plate, taking small bites here and there but not really eating a huge meal like most of the other guests.
<Comical1> A quartet of violinist struck up in the corner of the formal dining room. The candles were burning low in the chandelier, and the oil lanters on the walls added to the majority of the glow in the room. The table cloth was white satin with gold fringe around the edges. The chairs were all made of wood and high backed... extravagant, elegant, and dull. Cait was seated to her fathers right, and across from her was the gent named Edel. Close to Edel was Elowyss and another male guest (Jak) was seated next to her, almost a perfect pattern of guy girl guy. Seated close to Caitlin was Sienna, though there was another gentleman seated even between those two (Amon). Their glasses were all filled with red wine. Cait busied herself with piling her plate and recommending all their signature dishes to the ones closest to her. ANything to keep her father from talking. It wouldn't only last a few minutes more...
<Law-of-Murph>Jak sat down in an empty seat next to Elowyss, eyes huge as he gaped at the food on the table in front of him.
<LunieLu>"Be careful Jak, remember we do not take kindly to charity." Elowyss muttered to her companion, clutching her wine glass close and taking small sips of the red liquid; her eyes were locked on the baroness herself, curious to see how she was reacting to all this. Ella raised her glass in greeting when Caitlin glanced her way.
<SonicEdge7>Amon did his best to eat with his left hand while keeping his right arm hidden, but it seemed to make slight twitches, noticeable only by him, a problem that could only mean one thing. He looked up at the guests across from him, trying to determine the source. Luckily, it didn't take him long to narrow down a suspect. Setting down his fork, he politely wiped his mouth and addressed the woman with white and black hair (Elowyss), "Excuse me ma'am, you look familiar...have we met before?"
<Awa303>Epikuro is trying to follow Cait's tips about the food and drink, even though it was clear the very Cait was only blabbering to keep her dad from start talking and maybe bring more bad news for his own daughter. In-between joining and trying to help/engage on the futile talk, she was mouthing something else soundlessly: 'That was an espetacle, but not the kind we expected. Are you ok?'.
<Comical1> Caitlin: "I hope our spread hasn't offended you," Cait spoke quietly with those across from her. "I assure you that this feast was prepared with expert care for this party and all of its guests, myself included. "Please do try the lamb, its tender and the most unlikely to upset a stomach." Her father was patting his lips with a napkin out of the corner of her eyes and she couldn't resist an eye roll and heavy sigh, predicting the moment his hand would fall to cup the back of hers and he would clear his throat to speak. If she was offering reward points for trying to redeem oneself, she might have spared him half a quid. "Sweetheart, I'm happy to see your dance with sir Cohen was cordial." she almost snorted derrisively. Cordial? that was the nicest thing he could find to say, and that wasn't saying much. Still, he continued "It pleases me to have chosen well for your marriage." Now she shook off his hand. and turned to Edel, grateful for the distraction. "I am a bit shaken, but glad to find myself in familiar company," she meant everyone here except the Baron. In her head she counted the seconds, her rescue party was already running late. And she had always wanted to trash her childhood manor. Now she had good reason to.
<LunieLu>Elowyss glanced up to the male sitting opposite her, she raised an eyebrow in curiousity before giving him a sickly sweet smile, "I'm terribly sorry, but I don't believe we have.." She then went back to sipping her wine, keen to avoiding giving away her identity.
<Awa303>Epikuro "But If it was me up there being randomly paired up I'd have literally jumped out the window, or darted for the door. You had an enviable amount of guts." and back to normal tone "I need to say the treats around are delicious, my praises to the chefs."
<Law-of-Murph>Jak nervously looked between Caitlin and Elowyss, then helped himself to the lamb, using all his strength to stop himself from filling his entire plate with a mountain of food.
<SonicEdge7>Amon noticed something off about that reaction, but he let it slide. "Ah, my mistake, sorry about that." He reached for his wine, but decided not to drink, instead choosing to swirl it in his hand. Something didn't feel right...
<Awa303>Epikuro just grinned back when noticed her expression and crashing noises starting on the background. "Do I take it your party is just about to start?"
<Comical1> Caitlin: The sound of Glass shattering, fabric ripping, and the string instruments coming to a screeching uncoordinated halt filled the air within an instant. Cait smiled to herself and lifted her wine glass to her lips. Before taking a sip she toasted Edel and grinned. "I appreciate the admiration, but I believe my reaction may be a little less passive, yet equally gutsy when compared to perhaps what you imagined." The queen of rogues winked, and took a large swig. Her father and many of the staff were scattering, plates were clattering on the floor where startled guests accidentally knocked them over. Someone screamed from having wine spilled on them, and another person tripped and ran face first into the door in his attempt to exit the room. The bay windows that were previously to her fathers back and cloaked with curtains now hung limp and broken. The cold air poured in and the chilling rain splattered a good ten feet into the house. Standing, silhoutte in the evening light were a band of pirates, brandishing swords. "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?" Her father sputtered, aghast.
"We've come for the baroness... this is a kidnapping, so I'd appreciate your cooperation," The head man spoke.
<Comical1> Caitlin: Before the rogues spoke, she nodded cladenstine to Edel "Indeed," She whispered.
<LunieLu>Elowyss went back to watching Caitlin, noticing her engrossed in conversation with the people surrounding her; the young guild leader took another sip of wine before placing it down on the table, she wasn't quite sure but she thought that the Baroness looked like she was counting down to something. That suspicion was confirmed when the music was screeched to a halt, followed with noises of chaos. Elowyss did not rise from her seat or even flinch when the rogues appeared, narrowing her eyes at them as she watched the whole scene unfold.
<Awa303>Epikuro would be worried, but only if Cait didn't look so happy about being 'kidnapped'. But since she did look so happy, Epikuro just kept sitting where she was, enjoying the food and looking at the rogues amusedly like if she was watching a top quality show.
<SonicEdge7>Amon looked up and saw what was happening. Feeling one last twitch in his arm, he set down his glass. "Interesting," he muttered to himself, a small hint of a smile on his face.
<Law-of-Murph>Jak gasped very loudly and toppled over backward in his seat, spilling his glass of wine all down the front of his suit as he did so.
*Zigzagoomba
<Comical1> UNKNOWN WOMAN: A fair haired woman, mid forties raced into the room full alert, she narrowed her eyes first on the baron, then they shifted to the rogues and her bright eyes grew very round. "No," She whispered desperately. "No, you can not be here, you can not take her away from us please... please not like this," Caitlin actually flinched and suddenly, she remembered all the reasons she resisted a public charade in the past. The woman dressed in a maids appron raced around the crowded table and people backed against walls to the very head of the room, leaping over Jak in the process. The baron put out an arm to stop her, but she brushed past it and possitioned herself between Cait and her crew.
<Awa303> Epikuro saw the maid-dressed woman and thought, well, this was starting to get out of control. She slooowly stood up and started to turn around the table, behind the ones who were still sitting or now standing (or had flopped down on their chairs).
<SonicEdge7> Amon continued to calmly observe the events unfold. Though he wished to continue to watch what was happening, the sudden increase in Anderswelter was starting to take a toll on his arm. "Just a little longer," he thought, hoping for an opening in which to leave.
<Law-of-Murph> Jak got to his feet, and crouched down, peeking over the brim of the table. He didn't know who this lady was, but he found her slightly frightening.
<Zigzagoomba> Connor: Taps Jak on the shoulder. "You alright?"
<Comical1> Caitlin: Her first mate gave her a subtle glance, as if asking how to proceed, and she in return gave a small, barely noteable nod, indicating there was no going back now... they would have to complete the ruse. The only trouble was--- she could predict her fathers behavior to a fault. Her mother on the other hand.... completely debateable. The pirate cleared his throat and pointed menacingly with his sword at the woman covered in baking powder and small spots of grease stains from the kitchens. "Stand down, woman, there will be no dissuading us now-" "Is it a ransom you want?" The baron asked suddenly, clicking his fingers together in an early victory. "I can pay it, just name your price, and leave my house! You're scaring the guests." He stood up tall and brushed off his impeccably clean suit coat. Caitlin groaned. This did not help. The pirates all laughed heartily, the idea of robbing the baron was the most laughable joke of all, since their queen would inherrit it anyway. "No we dont want your money, just your daughter," the leader confirmed, winking at Cait in a devious way. A handful of people who had seen more than enough made for the doors, then gasped. The sound of a cackle sparking along the floorboards and then the roar of a flame racing up the walpaper to meet the oil lamps at shoulder height stole the attention of everyone in the room. Even Caitlin gasped in surprise. "Money, you can have, The young girl, you may not!" The nameless woman threatened, her eyes glowing inhumanely and her fingers pointing at all the exits, and shooting Pyromancy I to create a spark which can light flammable materials. Like the beautiful cheery wood floors, or the window panes and doors, even the table and chairs were little more than kindling at this point. "You should have taken the barons offer," she joked dryly.
<SonicEdge7> "And that's my cue," thought Amon, as he got up and started to run, due to a combination of magical feedback and slight PTSD
<Awa303> Epikuro "Crap." she thought, while making her way to Cait and whispering on her ear. "Those are your friends, right? Better run, your exit is closing. Just scream and pretend to flee or the likes and make them 'pursue' you, this fire is not a joke. I'll try to get the flopped down guests out."
<Law-of-Murph> Jak jumped slightly at connor's touch, then sqeaked in reply, "Oh....I'm okay....Nice to see you. Sort of."
<Zigzagoomba> Connor: Whispered to Jak "What is going on?!!"
<Comical1> Caitlin: Glad to have a new alliance within the room, she nodded to Edel's plan and nodded agreeably. "Here goes nothing," she whispered in reply, then added, "Goodluck with the others" before giving a mighty "AYIEEEE" And running past her pirate crew and ducking out the broken window, jumping through the ring of flames eating up the window panes. She hoped her father and mother made it out alright. Mum might have the power of fire, but she was useless with water and wouldn't be able to put out her own mess.... or hide the fact from her husband after all these years that she wasn't human....... there was a tragedy in itself. For right now, Cait knew where her escape route lay. There was a sky ship waiting in the gardens of her estate, and her crew would know to meet her there.
<SonicEdge7> Amon ran past all the guests, and was able to make it outside. Once he was a fair distance away, he was able to slow down. As he gazed back towards the now burning manor, he thought to himself, "hm...that wasn't that bad at all. Hope Sienna and the others were able to make it out." That was when he noticed a figure running towards an air ship.
<Awa303> Epikuro started with what she said she would and "EVERYONE, TO THE DOOR! RUN BUT DON'T PANIC!" fone ahead lifting whoever decided to swoon or trip and fanning them for a few short seconds while making her own way towards the biggest exit: the entrance for the ball.
<Law-of-Murph> Jak starting to panic, tried to run towards the door, tripped, picked himself back up, then tripped again.
<Awa303> Epikuro "........ " walks till Jack, sticks herself under his arm to lift him up, and starts hurrying out again while working as a crutch.
<Comical1> Baron: Stares down the fire-starting Anderswealtler. Says with a deadpan voice and eyes dead as winter frost. "You are not my wife."
Caitlin: "All Aboard!!" Cait called out over the roar of the fire, the shouts of the escaping crowd and the sirens in the distance. Her crew or rescue party of just a handful for this particular mission lept into the airship, and manned their posts with out needing to be told. Cait hung off the ropes of her vessel as it lifted into the air, the icy nights wind whipping at her hair as she leaned out and watched her home burn. Even the light drizzle of rain couldn't wash it out.
<SonicEdge7> Amon: "Isn't that...the baroness...?"
<Awa303> Epikuro "She called him 'my husband', so must be." but Epikuro herself is too busy getting the hell outta there to pay attention to that.
<Law-of-Murph> Jak stumbles out of the building, coughing and spluttering, just in time to see the baroness sailing off on a pirate airship. He blinked a few times and shook his head. "Imagine that......"
<SonicEdge7> Amon: "Heh, this really was an interesting night," he said as he was turning to leave. "I really should get out more often...
